Abbas of Cheliax |
Abbas follows up with two attacks on the troblins, hoping to beat a couple to the ground while the monstrous ones are still coming.
Double attacks left end 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22, damage 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8, right end 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25, damage 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 = 5

Flurry of Cat: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 = 91d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Thems some bad rolls.
Aidan takes a few steps and grunts a challenge as he brings his quarterstaff over his head at this hybrid monstrosity. His bravado is stronger than his aim, however, as he cracks the rock with a solid thud.
His brother, however, takes the opportunity to slink aside, ripping at the creature from behind as it is distracted. The cat loses his focus in the ferocity, and his iterative attacks fail to do significant damage.
Unless a 12 hits, in which case that thing is toast.
Taedric Starfell |
Taedric chuckles, "Elinor, you take all the fun.", and spins around, looking for another target to run through.
Sigil |
Elinor is brutal and determined. Her blade reduces another foe to ruin. As she moves to reposition, all blades fail to harm her. A charge line is opened for the cavalier. Abbas follows her lead. Another down. Aidan is unsuccessful in his attempt but thev odds are looking longer for the enemy he selected.
Harlynns elemental races at the troblins that are vexing Bryndyn and Tkurzhan. It moves with a grace that you would not think something so solid could achieve. Suddenly the thing dives into the ground and disappears, reappearing moments later on the far side of one of the things and unsettling it greatly.
Tzurkhan reduces another of the creatures to a bloody mess.
Bryn and Narnel are up.
Bryndyn |
unable to see the new map right now, so forgive if this doesn't make sense
Trying not to be startled by the elementals phasing in and out as they harrass the Troblins, Bryndyn moves to attack the nearest enemy (while trying to avoid being flanked

Round 5, Favored Target
Narnel fires a shot from concealment at the enemy in o-18.
LB Att: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 1 = 16
LB Dam: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5
He then takes a moment to go into hiding.
Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Aidan Ayrvar |
Bump!
Aidan clambers onto the rock in front of him, loading his sling with another magic stone. He lets fly at the distant troblin, nodding with satisfaction at the echoing crack.
Magic Stone: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 151d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
The tawny cat, seeing his foe lain low beneath Bryndyn's onslaught, slinks close to the earth and prepares to strike at his human brother's signal.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 8 - 2 = 13
Taedric Starfell |
Taedric scans the battlefield looking for a target worth running down that isn't fleeing...
Aidan Ayrvar |
I don't think any are fleeing... the arrival of the big bads rallied the troops. You can charge O19 or the big bad at P22, but both would provoke AoOs from 018. You could 5-foot step and full-attack O18, but you'd lose charge and the other two would likely close in.
Taedric Starfell |
I was looking for a clearer charge line than that, but then, Taedric's crazy anyway.. (Also, side note, reach weapon, no need to 5' step to hit O18 -- but I also can't move 10' to get the charge.) However, I think a 1+2+1+2 "line" will do what I want it to...
Taedric Starfell |
Taedric says, "Ok, Eli, you can have this one... That one's mine...", and points his lance at the massive creature coming in from the east, rushing forward and issuing a challenge as he gains momentum, angling his lance to strike.
There seems to be an unobstructed line to U8, and reach from there... but it's a double-move, so no ride-by.
Cavalier's Charge: 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 4 = 29 for 3d6 + 6 + 12 ⇒ (5, 2, 1) + 6 + 12 = 26
Aidan Ayrvar |
NOW! The druid points at the rearmost troblin, and Tkurzhan leaps in a cascade of dirt and claws and fury. Detritus from his chaotic ascent wreathes his terrible visage as he crashes back to earth with the might of a meteor.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 - 2 = 23
Grapple: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 1 = 26
The troblin has time only to gape, aghast, at the fate falling upon him before he is driven to the ground with an earth-shaking roar.
So move to O19, 5 feet in the air, using acrobatics with a running start to L18, followed by the grapple against O19. He's flat-footed against that unless he hits the modest DC13 perception to notice Tkurzhan. Even if not, that's one hell of a grab roll.
Sigil |
Bryn has found his zone. The mace falls again, and again the stink of ozone. The troblin is surrounded and dying fast. Keeping the momentum, Narnels arrow finds another of them. They are so much tougher than goblins. It is too bad they did not get more of that heritage.
The troblins pause a breathe to see what the big monsters do. The big ones pause not at all, but bellowing, race towards their targets. While they 2 are too far to close one gets right up to Elinor and attempts to dismember her! She dodges one claw and ends up in its mouth! And as she spins past the worst of that bite, another claw hits her!
Now the rest really find their courage. A sword hits Aidan. Another Tzurkhan. Bryn narrowly escapes disaster as does Elinor. The damage dealt has been massive, but the most concerning thing is about to happen... One of the felled troblins stands up. His wounds somehow knit together. He is dead no more.
Seneca pulls his mace back and tries to level the foe before him. He hits the creatures armor but does not seem to hurt it.
Tadric, your move can stand, or if the new way the pieces sit changes your mind please feel free to go with that. For sure keep the dice roll! Also, Taedric would notice the reach on these things. Elinor, you take 22 points of damage. Both Aidan and Tkurzhan take 9 points. Narnel please remember your "shooting into combat" penalty.
Harlynn, Taedric, Tzurkhan, Bryndyn, Narnel, monsters, Seneca, Elinor, Abbas, Aidan. Elinor and Abbas are up.
Narnel Falerathon |
I do not have a penalty for firing into combat. I have the Precise Shot feat.

Elinor Knutsdottir |
"Owwwwww!" Elinor's song is interrupted momentarily by a cry of pain and she shakes herself to get some of the slobber off. Sigil miscalculated slightly and it wasn't quite as ferocious a wound as first through. She sidesteps around the creature (to r20) and strikes at it managing a 'please, after you' gesture to Abbas and Taedric to invite them into the gap she's left.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 81d10 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
PS: How common knowledge is it that you burn trolls?
Bedu the Barber |
Abbas slides forwards while the massive green monster is concentrating on Elinor, but naturally starting to set up a flank. Then he attacks the two little goblinkin, unused to the idea of wounds knitting back.
"You got that big one. I take little uns like you say, Ellie. Not fair but I do that for you!"
He slams the quarterstaff forwards at head height, smashing towards the ugly foreheads with power.
Five foot step to P18, Left hand attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9, right hand attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Taedric Starfell |
Since they moved before Taedric, I now have a ride-by lane, which is what I'll head for. Mobility is my friend here. Also, can we make some knowledge rolls about regeneration?
Ride-by ending up in J5, attacking big guy on the left from N13 before proceding another 50'

Round 6, Favored Target, Sneak Att
Narnel moves stealthily to U-16, and fires at the Favored Enemy in P-19 attacking Eli.

Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Gah! Aidan exclaims meaninglessly as he fights off the risen Troblins.
Tkurzhan's AC is 21. That's pretty damn high to get hit by a run'o'mill minion without flanking... I think it might be time for big guns.
Aidan takes a step back and casts Shillelagh.
Taedric Starfell |
Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 Humanoids are Kn(Local), I believe.
Taedric Starfell |
Trolls aren't monstrous humanoids, they're humanoid (giant). Goblins are humanoid (goblinoid). Minotaur and Morlocks and Medusae are Monstrous Humanoids.
Bryndyn |
It looks like I have a flank attack on the 'X' near me. Assuming it's still alive. If not, I'll step up to attack the TZ
Bryndyn snarls. "This might be trouble" before attacking again. Perspiration mixes with natural pheromones indicating he's angry and might be getting desperate.
Attack with Heavy Shock Mace 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 1 + 2 = 30
Damage with Heavy Shock Mace 1d8 + 3 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 1 + (3) = 13
Assumes flank & bard song still active.
Sigil |
Narnel... I should have remembered that. Elinor, 11 points... Serious, but not so bad. Abbas, no worries. Aidan you are one ahead now. I will keep both actions but am using your earlier one first.I am also slightly unclear on the placement of Tzurkhan after his attack. Please let me know if I need to adjust.
I somewhat arbitrarily chose M for monster. :) Tadrics roll is certainly good enough to let you know about regeneration and fire, if he chooses to share. The Local DC is 15 for you to obtain the same knowledge.
Elinor dodges and weaves around the troblins in an attempt to open the massive troll up for her companions. Her maneuvers work, distract her enough that she is also unable to cause any damage.
Abbas races forward and attempts to clear the path to her hitting both troblins which stand in his way.
Aidans magic stone bounces off his foe harmlessly.
The elemental hits the troblin before it solidly. It is indeed nearly dead.
Taedric tries to harm one of the green brutes. His aim is precise and the damage he causes is massive. The thing opens its eyes wide in pain and surprise. It flails out at Taedric, but the gnome easily evades its claws.
At Aidans cue, the big cat becomes death. flying through the air, his foe anticipated his move, but how could anything anticipate the strength of those jaws that hold it fast!
Bryndyn brings his mace down again. He has given up elegance in exchange for effectiveness. The creature before him crumples; it's head broken.
Meanwhile Narnels parts the shadows for just long enough to loose another arrow and then he disappears again. The arrow is deadly accurate.
Tadrics actions have broken the line, though if this is good or not remains to be seen. One of the behemoths chases him. Despite its size it is amazingly fast. The next seems to be oblivious to the poor way it has positioned itself, and attacks Harlynn. And Elinors foe is not going to let her get a moment to catch her breath as it pushes it's attack. For all their ferocity, none of the creatures hurts the heroes. Even relatively soft Harlynn is unscathed.
The troblins have had enough. From their point of view, they are still dying, not the heroes. Collectively they break and try to find the easiest way away from their foes. One stirs beneath the feet of Abbas horse, but the horse steps on it and it falls back to its false death. The trobin Tzurkhan has grabbed miraculously breaks free.
Seneca tries again to dispatch the troblin before him, hitting it hard, the creature refuses to fall.
Harlynn, Taedric, Tzurkhan, Bryndyn, Narnel, monsters, Seneca, Elinor, Abbas, Aidan. Elinor and Abbas are up. Aidan, you get an AoO against the fleeing troblin if you choose. You may also change you action with the troll so close.
Abbas of Cheliax |
Abbas keeps half an eye on the dramatic fight between the monster and Elinor but he keeps his word and doesn't join that combat. Instead he attacks the last troblin, with a fixed grin.
Left hand attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7, right hand attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Taedric Starfell |
Taedric shouts, "They're regenerating! We need to burn them with fire or acid to kill them!"
Aidan Ayrvar |
Erm... I should be in L15 and Tkurzhan in N17, so that's almost right. Throw out the sling action if they rose before my turn. Guess I got excited and didn't realize I was ahead. Whoops xD Instead...
Hearing Taedric's explanation of the rising dead, Aidan's face grows grim.
Fire is an uncontrollable force, one I hoped never to rely on.
He barks an order at Tkurzhan as the cat nearly chases down his prey, and the sabertooth petulantly remains.
AoO: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 142d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3) + 2 = 8
Aidan smacks the troblin as it bustles past half-heartedly and turns his attention to more grave matters. He addresses the field as though talking to the earth and sky itself...
Aicim ar tine, Aicim ar splancphointe sa stoirm agus loscadh sleive san goraois. Tar amach, tu shuanaiv bogaid, tu fanacht taov istid den agmad. Dóig!
Summon: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Aidan summons two fire elementals that will act on his next turn. I will place them on the map at that time, as well.
Bryndyn |
Bryndyn whirls around to face the larger monsters. He isn't thinking now, he's reacting to the threat to himself and his friends. His spiney ridges almost radiate with the heat of the battle as he steps up and swings again.
Attack with Heavy Shock Mace 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 1 = 16
Damage with Heavy Shock Mace 1d8 + 3 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 1 + (2) = 13
Assuming Bard Song, no flank
Taedric Starfell |
Taedric winces as the troll follows him and stepped into his reach. Well, it looks like great green warty's got a stronger hand than I'd hoped.... I'm suddenly very happy about learning about giants as a child... Still, he's big, tough and if I step back to charge, he'll just heal... Say, magic hero-lance, if you've got some magic fire abilities to manifest, now would be a good time...
He shakes the thing hopefully, then sighs and jabs the lance into the troll even as he tells Trumps to back away.
Lance: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 1 = 24 for 1d6 + 2 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 + 4 = 13
Single move back to C11, which should prevent him charging me - Taedric's movement provokes, but Taedric's gnomish defensive training gives AC26, and if he attacks Trumps instead...
Mounted Combat (Avoid): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

Round 7, Favored Target, Sneak Att
Narnel studies the large target attacking Eli, fires at the Favored Enemy.
LB Att: 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 9 + 1 + 1 = 14
LB Dam: 1d8 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 + 1 + (4) = 9
He then hides back in the foliage.
[Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Elinor Knutsdottir |
Elinor keeps doing her job, occupying the big one and hoping that her skilful defence keeps her in one piece. She sidesteps further around and slashes at it. There's so much of it, how can she possibly miss? she thinks to herself.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 151d10 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Like that, I suppose. Still, a bit closer.
I was sure I was on the other side of the critter, but I suppose it doesn't matter very much.
Sigil |
Elinor, I moved you. Aidan, your placement would have you on top of a rock.
Elinors desperate dance continues. Her blade connects but draws no blood, bouncing harmlessly of the trolls putrid skin.
Abbas on the other hand bashes his foe soundly and solidly. It falls slack and out of Tzurkhans jaws.
Aidan calls ancient words of power. There is much conflict in him, as he tries to find a way to be at peace with words he had hoped to never say.
Harlynns stone ally races towards the troll, smashing into it with surprising force. The troll lashes out with one of its scaly arms and crashes into the elemental. The elemental is nearly destroyed. Harlynn on the other hand calls upon magic. Shooting from his fingers is a searing beam of fire! Sadly; the beam goes wild and fails to connect, though the behemoth cannot be comfortable with fire sop close to it.
Harlynn, Taedric, Tzurkhan, Bryndyn, Narnel, monsters, Seneca, Elinor, Abbas, Aidan. Tzurkhan and Bryndyn are up.
Aidan Ayrvar |
Yupp, that's correct. Do I need a climb check? How tall are they?
Tkurzhan steps towards the larger monster and attacks.
5-foot to O16?
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 91d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 81d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 231d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 61d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 141d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Taedric Starfell |
Did my attack and step back get resolved?
Sigil |
Sorry guys... Narnel we had not gotten to you so need to feel scorned. Taedric and Bryndyn however can feel scorned if they want to though the slight was very unintentional.
Yes, Aidan, a climb check would be good. They are not going to be easy to get up, and each are in the 6-9 ft range, without a clear platforms on top.
Taedrics lance slides in and out. It is not elegant, but then, it does not have to be. As he backs away the troll bellows and swipes at him with a gnarled claw but comes nowhere near to hitting him.
Tzurkhan races toward his next foe. His claw cuts it thought the wound is not terrible. Bryn follows him and delivers a strong blow to the troll. Narnel is not as lucky.
The monsters are not fazed. The one by Elinor says a single word, that sounds more like a growl. Focusing his might on her, she finds herself slashed again. The one in the middle divides his attacks. The elemental is reduced to rubble, and while Bryndyn avoids the things teeth, Tzurkhan gets raked by its claws.
The worst is still ahead. Taedrics opponent mistook him for a coward and let him run. The beast followed its foul fellows into combat and the closest one in range was Harlynn. Bit and slashed she crumbles, only vaguely aware of what hit her.
Seneca closes on the one in the middle in an effort to get to Harlynn, but his mace fails to connect.
Elinor takes 10 pts, Tzurkhan takes 11 and Harlynn is reduced to 0. The only good thing is that she is stable.
Harlynn, Taedric, Tzurkhan, Bryndyn, Narnel, monsters, Seneca, Elinor, Abbas, Aidan. Elinor, Abbas and Aidan are up.
