Leto V. Derexhi |
Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Hey who ate my post before?
Leto, lucky to have the bow in hand, just scratching the branding on his forehead, reacted quickly, shooting at the first two spiders.
Flurry of Arrows: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 131d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Flurry of Arrows: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 241d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Erei Jentis |
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Round 1 - Initiative 19
Erei will draw his crossbow and fire at the most wounded target he can see.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 2 + 1 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 1 - 4 - 2 = 5
Active Effects: Flagbearer (+1 morale to attack/damage)
Game Master Listener |
You know that these creatures can Rend, and if they do, the others will probably turn to attack the target so struck.
Rolling the confirmation for Leto's critical.
Confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 Confirms
2d8 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 2 = 9
Almathea splashes the creature attacking her as she shrieks and Leto finishes it off with a solid hit.
Erei's shot goes wide.
Don't forget to roll initiative Setesh! And a Knowledge (nature) roll if you'd like. :)
Micah lands a solid strike on the Solifugid attacking him. Because they dropped down between you all, with a little bit of shuffling feet you can easily get flanks as you fight. Again, Setesh seems to have a hard time managing to hit small, speedy things, and the spider-creature skitters away from his blow.
Round 2: Initiative 20
The creature attacking Nevai lunges forward to strike again.
Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Claw: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Claw: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
The spider-like monster attacking Micah skitters forward to claw at him, then skitters away, seemingly more interested than leaving than pressing the attack. 5-foot step back
Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Claw: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Claw: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
The last jumps at Setesh and claws away at his leg.
Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Claw: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Claw: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Three of the creatures remain. One seems like it's about to retreat (the one engaged with Micah), and is severely injured. The other two are perfectly healthy and pressing the attack, though the one attacking Nevai will almost certainly move away from his fallen body if pressed.
Leto V. Derexhi |
Didn´t see the crit! Of course forgot Leto is now using the found masterwork composite shortbow, where´s my head? ...also does the bonus from the flagbearer count all the time or only after first turn of the flagbearer?
Round:2 Initiative:17
Taking a step back from potential offenders Leto grabs two more arrows from his quiver and aims at the eight-legged creature near Nevai.
Flurry of arrows: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 161d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Flurry of arrows: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 81d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Nevai! Get up!
Setesh Bantling |
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5.
Knowledge(Nature): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24.
Severely injured, Setesh adopts a flanking position, and flails desperately at the spider-thing attacking him.
Heavy Mace: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 2 + 1 = 27, for 1d8 + 6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 + (2) = 10 damage.
Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 2 + 1 = 18, for 1d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 1 = 13 *ADDITIONAL* damage.
Setesh Bantling |
Setesh winces as Nevai falls.
Well, there goes our healer...
This place is lethal! I really question how a party of four PCs (which is the 'standard' APs are built for) could handle it...
Game Master Listener |
You know that these creatures can Rend, and if they do, the others will probably turn to attack the target so struck. They have no special protections.
Micah Haynes |
Round 2, initiative 14
"Sh!t"
Micah suddenly begins taking the fight much more seriously. Straightening out his footwork he darts in at the wounded spider attempting to even up the odds a bit...
issue challenge against injured one, shift to maintain flank
cutlass: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 20, for: 1d6 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 8
if someone with higher initiative drops it first I'll direct that toward the one attacking Nevai instead... If not- I'll use glorious challenge when the first one drops (which I assume my attack will do) to declare a challenge against the one that was fighting Nevai.
Erei Jentis |
Round 2 - Initiative 19
These things tend to group up whenever they severely damage someone. So...you know...be careful.
Erei will drop the flag, reload his crossbow, and pick the flag up again.

Flurry of arrows: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 151d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Game Master Listener |
Leto, your damage with the shortbow is going to be a d6. Also, you get to use +2 from your strength, it's masterwork, and you get the flagbearer bonus.
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 (Mighty (+2), Flagbearer, MW)
Micah's precise strike splits his target nearly in two, and Setesh's mace splatters one of the spider-like creature into the ground. Leto's arrow strikes a solid blow and Almathea's acid nearly finishes off the monster attacking Nevai. It skitters back in an attempt to hide, but limping severely. You finish it off easily as it tries to return to its hiding place.
As you explore the rest of the room you find their nest behind the altar. The remains of various creatures are scattered within it but you find nothing else of interest.
Leto V. Derexhi |
Careful there! We don´t need more at the moment! Can anyone heal Nevai? Unfortunately i´m not prepared for such a situation. Something i need to take care of in the future!
Leto looks around the room carefully.

Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15.
...and although dealing with a living creatures initially throws him, eventually he gets it right.
"Perhaps one of those potions we found earlier has healing properties?"
We have two unidentified potions...?
Leto V. Derexhi |
Leto takes the potions, uncorks them, sticks a finger in and licks at the residue.
Perception 1 take ten: 10 + 8 = 18
Perception 2 take ten: 10 + 8 = 18
Should be possible right?
Almathea |
Almathea stands by and allows Leto a chance to identify those potions first. If he fails then she will attempt to identify them herself.
"It would certainly be beneficial if at least one of those is a healing potion."
Leto V. Derexhi |
Leto looks from the potions at Almathea, then at Nevai...
Fate seems to be with us, both are!
He takes one of the potions and instills its content down Nevais throat, parting his lips with the flask.
Dice yourself 1d8+1!
Surely i don´t know much about magic, but i wonder how they can be good after such a long time...not even tasting bad. I hope this works.
Nevai Alaro |
Healing: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
A moment after Leto feeds him a potion, Nevai's eyes flutter open and he groans, "Ugh... What happened? Did we drive them off? I haven't seen those creatures since I was thirteen, when our caravan was large enough to scare them off without a fight." Looking around the room, he adds, "Looks like I'm not the only one that took a beating. Let's get us all fixed up."

Setesh breathes a sigh of relief when Nevai's eyes flicker open, and an even *more* relieved sigh of relief when his injuries heal over.
"Thank-you, Nevai!"
He then turns to the others.
"'Tis a shame that there was nothing of material worth in this room (even though, as an embalmer, I am fascinated by this little nugget of history); shall we continue on?", he says, gesturing back out the door to the other set on door on the opposite side of the mirror room.
Leto V. Derexhi |
Good to see you back on your feet again Nevai. We were indeed lucky to find this potions.
Looking at Setesh:
You could check out that eggsack. Maybe something usefull for embalmers?
Game Master Listener |
Almathea |
"Now that we are all thankfully on our feet, shall we continue on with our explorations? Hopefully with less local wildlife though. I do hope that there isn't anything living down here that is large enough to have cause any damage to any of the more fragile artifacts that we may find."
Setesh Bantling |
Setesh shakes his head.
"There is nothing of use in the nest. They don't actually use webbing; the nest is lined with the remains of their victims. Let's push on."
He then moves over to the other set of doors, and continues his slow progress, searching carefully.
Leto V. Derexhi |
Then let´s be glad our remains don´t are there now. Ready to move on when you are. I do hope we find something of real value still though. And best some proof that this country actually rightfully belongs to my family! In one of those crypts something like that should be hidden.
Leto chuckles as he imagines himself as Pharao.
Game Master Listener |
The doors swing open easily.
---
A flight of steps gradually descends to the west down this passage. Halfway down the stairs, small holes and burrowed tunnels riddle what remains of the passage’s southern wall. Earth and sand have spilled over the collapsed masonry, covering the stairs with dirt and rubble. Stone doors engraved with a golden scarab, its wings open beneath a golden sun, stand at either end of the stairs.

The dust and debris in the central area of this stairway occasionally shifts as if air if blowing it, but you feel nothing. As your eyes adjust, you suddenly realize the movements are from something...alive!
Knowledge (planes) would be appropriate.
All of the southern squares of this stairway are difficult terrain except the first (eastern-most). Also the western-most northern square is also difficult terrain.
Leto V. Derexhi |
Leto shouts out:Beware! There is something invisible moving around! You see that footprints over there!
He gets his bow ready. This time the shortbow^^
Erei, are you holding up that banner all the time or do you need to "activate" it first?
Almathea |
"There definitely seems to be something alive in this room with us. What it is though, I cannot say, but undoubtedly it will not be pleased to see us. Nothing else we have found down here has been of a friendly nature yet."
Thea readies to toss a globe of acid if any hostile targets present themselves.
Leto V. Derexhi |
Leto adresses the invisible something, first in common, then in osiriani:

Round 1: Initiative 15
The creature rises up out of the ground, the sand slowly coalescing into a solid being. Micah's cutlass clangs as if on stone and Erei's shot goes wide, as does Almathea's first blob of acid. Leto's arrows both strike, though they seem to have little to no effect on the creature. Almathea's second attack burns away some of the sand with a hiss. But then Setesh strikes and half the creature disappears in a cloud. There is a loud hiss that sounds like stone sliding across stone as the Sandling slams itself into the ruins of the southern wall. The sand sinking into and through the rubble.
After a few moments you realize that the creature is probably not returning.
Micah Haynes |
I don't want to muddle things up at all, but in the future you (GM) should probably make a note of when flanking is possible (and how)... 1d6 of Setesh's damage is sneak attack (and that will keep going up), so it will make a difference...
"Well, it looks like at least one thing in here knows when it's outmatched," Micah announces. "Shall we continue on?"
Almathea |
"Well, okay then. Hopefully that one is gone for good."
Thea will begin to pick her way through the rubble. "Yes, let's continue."
If she makes to the door without any further attacks by anything, Thea will examine the doors. "I suppose it is too much to hope that these scarabs on the door would be solid gold rather than mere paint?"
Nevai Alaro |
Nevai glances around for a few moments before realizing that the creature must have fled. "Well, that was surprisingly simple. Good thing we have such talented brawlers to deal with these things."
He then joins Almathea in inspecting the scarab door. "Interesting workmanship and obvious iconography. Perhaps this is the resting place of the man himself?"
