I agree that they don't probably need him, even if they think they do. He seems like a rather unreliable type, what with the setting the other guy up to get drunk so that he could slip off the ship and all. That seems to be a pretty dumb thing to do, and Cap'n hopefully has a big issue with that. And the three sailors coming back very well may want to get the heck back to civilization, which would make him more expendable.

No idea. If it comes down to it, we can stay the night on the ship, Vallen prepares touch of truthtelling in the morning, and then he has two options when I asked him if he murdered anyone. Tell us what he was doing, or not say anything, which means he'll get hanged.

I doubt staying on the ship is needed, the crew should be more than capable of keeping an eye on him though I'm willing to bet we can get some sort of proof before then.

Nerk: I was looking at Touch of Truthtelling on D20PFSRD, and saw the copyright notice was for Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Gods. I had never heard of it before, so I clicked it, and it brought me to the amazon page. I'm not sure how this is on here when the book the spell is in is not even released?

I looked into it some more, and it's a modification of Abadar's Truthtelling, which is in Pathfinder Chronicles: Gods and Magic. I looked in that book, and according to it Abadar's Truthtelling is (surprise) specific to clerics of Abadar.

I'll leave it up to you if Vallen can or cannot prepare the spell, I don't know what's going on with it- it's just on a wiki after all. Without the book it's supposedly in not being released yet there's no way to tell. Sorry about that. (I'm a bad cleric!)

Hopefully! Apparently the hardcover of the book the general version is in is on sale on the Pathfinder website, there are people saying they have it? I don't know, it's Nerk's decision. I do know I'll be picking up a copy of the Inner Sea Gods on APril 30th though, and exploiting its spell list mercilessly! I love their pdf versions.

I've updated the map in the campaign info tab with clumsily drawn grid coordinates, so at least when we talk about the map, we can know what we're talking about. Please check that it opens and so on.

So there's no doubt, Newspring and the Lillend are in 15D, the beach where you met sharky, the Harpy wreck and the cave are all in 17D, and I can't think of anything else significant that you know where it is yet.

I don't think it critted Vallen - his flat-footed AC is 14? SA makes sense. I'm not familiar with the monster, but I read Nerks dice roller as two claws (though now that I think about it, that would be 2 attacks) plus a rend or something similar. 1d4 +2 makes it much more managable, so I hope you're correct!

PA for 18 damage is pretty impressive - I hope you hit next round too!

So yeah, I checked Vallen's AC, remembered 14 and a +1 dex bonus, so I thought the 13 confirmed against flat-footed. Obviously I remembered the flat-footed AC and not the regular.

I noticed that too but assumed you had simply ruled he didn't have his shield on at the time of casting. I'm rather glad it was a mistake though!

I'm just guessing about the sneak attack but it fits the sneaky motif and Nerk didn't describe any acid effects of anything like that with the attack.

Oh, it's a sneak attack. A very sneaky attack.

They're good little monsters, but I don't recommend putting them on a random encounter table, since they sort of require a bit more development than, say, a giant ant or a shark-face cannibal.

The 13 does confirm against the flat-footed, Vallen did not have his shield out, as Gair said, so flat-footed without shield is 12. I'm going to put that on my sheet to be more clear.

Just curious, how do we read the hexes that are between two letters? For instance, the hex between C and D in row 16.

Because the columns defined by the letters don't go straight up, they go NW. If you look at the letters on the top row, you'll see J is due north of B on the bottom, but NW of J.

Also, Nerk, I was curious how you handle critical fumbles. For instance, if I had a critical fumble firing into melee with a crossbow, could I hit a comrade by accident? Break my crossbow? My character spontaneously combusts?

Critical fumbles are handled like critical hits:

If you roll a (natural) 1 on an attack, you roll again. If your second roll is also a miss, it's a fumble. The result is my discretion depending on the situation. It will be painful, but not lethal. Typically damage to a fellow party member, or effectively disarming or tripping yourself, or something equally upsetting.
