i am sorry. The need for you to surrender your arms isnt to take you into custody, but it is meant to protect you from yourself. Ryland says.

At that moment, far off on the horizon, a black storm cloud becomes visible to your eyesight. Bolts of lightning emit at random intervals from the cloud as it defies all norms of weather patterns. It flies against the lazy wind that pushes the white clouds to the south, and seems to grow in size in a rapid fashion.

A lone dull rumble of far off thunder is soon heard.

Ryland, hearing this, spins on his toes and sets himself wide, a large sword in his hands.
Blood and Ashes, an Al'Raken! he swears.
HIDE!

Turning back, he sprints towards Fia and Ryvin, sword glinting in the sunlight as it rises and falls with his arms pumping to propel him faster towards the closest cover.

Seeing the man draw steel, Rhoekk draws his arrow to his ear, training the deadly tip on the running man. If he gives any indication of attacking Fia or Ryvin with his sword, he looses without hesitation.

Should we set up a Master Ward and let whatever this is batter itself out a bit?

Rereading Rizzen's description, it seems like it's still a way off, and AltRyland seems to think it's possible to hide still. I'm torn. We could hide and hope it passes uneventfully (although our GM is Rizzen, which makes uneventfulness unlikely...), or get on the front foot and attack it as soon as it's in range.

litheene:
you feel a sudden urge to embrace the True Power.

As this realms Ryland screams at everyone to take cover, you hear sudden panicked screams and shouts from around the house, some right next to the wooden walls, as each attempts to scramble for some sort of cover. Several of those that are closest to the walls actually leap into the building, as it is the closest available cover. Others turn and sprint away, trusting in the overgrowth to protect them.

Out in the field, where there were was no one, suddenly the field is filled with upwards of twenty people, rushing about. Some head for the barn, some for the forest overgrowth.

The black cloud, still distant, suddenly flares brilliantly as hundreds of lightning bolts erupt from within. A minute later the sound of thunder rumbles through the mountains, creating echoes of noise crashing into itself. Loud to the point of deafening, it rattles your teeth and shakes your bones within your body.
One of the men, laying on his back, a look of abject terror etched upon his face, moans We are doomed! DOOMED! The two other men who leaped into the building with him, mummer similar things. One proceeds to wet himself in stark fear, the other, of stronger stuff, grimly holds onto his sword but has a look of acceptance of fate.

The black cloud gives another brilliant flash of light...and disappears.

As the thunder reaches your ears and rattles your bones to dust, a brilliant flash of light appears in the wheat field, followed by more thunder. The thunder hammers the farm and farmhouse, shaking it's foundation...

As you begin to pull yourself out of the remains of the house, you pick up on the sound of a rhythmic sound, similar to that of a bellows at a smithy. Long and deep the sounds are, and draw your eyes towards the source.

It's yellow snakelike eyes focus upon you, its mouth parts open with a deep intake of air as it bunches up on itself, and suddenly snaps forward with its head and roars.

Thunder so loud it drowns out the sound of Ryvin screaming, even in her own ears. Light so bright as to blind her. Blinded, she leaps clear just in time to avoid being buried under rubble.

The dust settles, the world returns - and as the Ebou Dari rises, she finds herself facing a beast unlike any she has ever seen before. Its roar fills the world, sets her heart racing with terror. Ryvin shrieks with terror and starts to run -- but as she runs, she channels, hurling something at the Al'raken.

I hope it is at least possible to throw a weave at this thing while running, kind of "Stay away!" If so, then it's a 5th-level Kiss of the Storm for 10d4 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 4, 2, 3, 1, 4, 4, 1) = 27 damage. Reflex save 19 for half damage, and if it fails the Reflex save it has to make a DC19 Fortitude save to avoid being knocked prone. Fortitude save, DC 20 needed: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11. The al'raken's roar stuns her again, though.

Alathea looks upon grimly as this world's Ryland scolds, cajoles, and berates Ryvin and Fiallain, and part of her hopes that Kodokura takes matters into his own hands and uses the One Power to silence the boor. Before she has a chance to goad her Heart to action, though, the man's insults turn to fear. Her confusion grows at the sight of his followers springing up from hiding and rushing towards the house, but even that is swept away by the monstrosity's approach. Too shocked to avoid the collapse of the farmhouse, saidar slips from her grasp. But even as she lets go of the One Power, she clings tightly to Kodokura.

After the rubble and debris settles, Alathea pulls herself out of the ruins of the farmhouse, dragging Kodokura along with her. Although they're battered and bloody, she knows that they're lucky that they weren't crushed by a falling beam or the like. But the monstrosity is still here, now even closer and gloating over the ruined farmhouse. Determinedly, Alathea attempts to surrender again to saidar, but the creature's roar shakes her soul and prevents her efforts.

As she prepares to weave though, the so far stealthy stalkers leap out of the grass and into the building, taking cover rather than striking an attack. What in the name of light are ... But her words are blown away by the thunder, as it hits the building. Despite the reinforcement, the weak structure collapses raining rubble on top of her. With her attention seeking enemy channelers, she reacts too late to weave a shield, scrambling out of the rubble, ears still ringing from the blast.

Then, she sees a banner come to life, only it is not, it is a beast which makes the largest ToRaken she ever saw pale as an earth worm in comparison. For a moment, her wonder is so great that she forgets fear, simply staring at the monster. Then, it roars, and she snaps back to reality, as her body trembles from the sound, the connection with Saidar blown away.

Splintered wood, shingles, and heavy beams came crashing down all about, but somehow, miraculously, Fiallain manages to throw herself out of the path of most of the falling debris. As the dust settles on the collapsed building, she emerges from the rubble, coughing a little as she crouches behind one of the larger of the fallen beams and looks out at the monstrosity that stands a little distance away, bellowing ferociously.

The sound of its roar washed over her, deafening in its intensity. Fia felt it down to her bones, felt the fear start to rise up within her, but then the anger rising to meet it. She rises to her feet, and spat a curse back at the thing, though her voice was lost in the cacophony. Fiallain’s look turned grim as she plopped back down amongst the rubble of their former shelter and took stock of the others. Of those visible from where she sat, none seemed unaffected by the beast’s antics in some way. Litheene seemed dazed, as did Kodokura, though Alathea was pulling him away, following Ryvin as she fled. From her position, she could not see Ryland… or the other Ryland, nor Rhoekk or the other men.

She had been spared most of the carnage, likely do to her having just barely entered the building when the blast hit. Her companions were dazed, scattered, and shaken – and that thing was still out there! Fia gritted her teeth, flexed the fingers of her left hand into a fist. ”If that thing comes at us before we recover, we’re dead! She thought. Light, we may awaken anyway. But what can I do??”

She peered through a gap in the wreckage, glared back at the strange, massive beast. There was only one thing she could try, one thing that could hopefully make a difference. That one thing was not her bare fists. Those few times she had tried to touch the source since that day in the cave, she had been unable to even brush against it before her body revolted on her. She was not recovered. But now what choice was there? Grimly, she closed her eyes, fed the fear, stress, anxiety, the anger of the moment away, searched for, and found the calm. Then, she reached down, deep within.

Immediately, the familiar nausea and bile rose to the surface as her body rebelled and protested what it knew she was doing. She groaned pitifully, and swallowed and spat the bile away as she forced herself onward, reaching and grasping. Yet again, as before, it eluded her. She fought back the panic and frustration. ” this isn’t right, not how…

Slowly, she strained and forced her rebelling body and mind to relax… to surrender. Her body trembled with the effort of that surrender, screaming in protest at what it knew would come. But then at last, grimacing, Fiallain opened herself. It was just a crack in her mind’s resistance at first, but beyond that resistance, she saw it there, waiting, begging, welling up, and just on the other side: Saidar. With a low moan, she opened that crack further, surrendered and letting go of herself completely.

It came to her then in an overwhelming flood. It filled her and she bathed in it, hugged it to herself as she wept. ”Oh light… it is clean!! So blessedly clean!!” She nearly forgot where she was then, in her relief and delight in finding this, but then she remembered. Tears streaming down her face, she stood on wobbly legs and faced the monstrosity. The light of Saidar surrounding her then was blinding to those who could see it; its intensity many times stronger and brighter than what should be possible....

@rhoekk and keelix. You can voluntarily do that if you wish. When you make the roll, just declare that you are attempting to shield her instead of rolling clear of debris. You will keep the same modifiers, and have the same target DC. so its a DC 20 ref save to leap atop of vala and shield her from the damage.

kodokura:
Ok, now we get into the trickiness of your madness. Not only are you having to make a check for taking damage, you have to take one for the damage dealt to alathea. only with alathea, you only have one action related to the madness/alathea table (in your PM). as you can see in the example above, you failed the madness check. the roll means that you are panicked. i would say that you would combine the panic with the fury of seeing your loved one injured.

ok, so we are starting combat. remember, i do my postings at noon monday through friday. Everyday is a combat round to react in. PCs make their postings, and at the noon CST lunch hour, i summarize the actions and then i make my NPC actions. Then the process repeats until done.

I'll check back in a week then, when my stunnedness wears off...

How big is the al'raken exactly? Because I think I might have a strategy.

Sorry for the delay, let me get my saves in place.

Fort Save Dc 20: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25.
Ref Save Dc 20: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8.
Will Save Dc 20: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12.
Fort Save Dc 20: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28.

Blarg. Damage taken: 5d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 6, 5, 5) = 21. What is the effect of the fear? Is it shaken or panicked?

Trying to watch everyone at once, Keelix is caught entirely off guard when the building collapses, and at the sight of the massive beast, he feels the icy fingers of fear slide across his bones, "By the light! What is that thing!"

ok, taking a bit of 'artistic license' here. And here’s hoping the raken doesn’t just step to the side and laugh!

Round 1:

Pain coursed through her, but she embraced it. Dizzy and disheveled, Fia picked herself back up off the ground and snarled back at the looming beast. Her hair stood out every which way, frizzed from the lightning that had nearly struck her directly, and would have, had she not somehow sensed it coming and thrown herself to the side. The effect gave the aiel woman a rather fearsome appearance. Yet, despite the lightning, she held still to the power as it blazed within her. But for how long? Already her weakened body trembles with the effort of holding so much of the power. Slowly, as if time had slowed, she lifts her arms and thrust them forward, fingers stretching towards the beast. Then, she channeled.

Threads of air shot from her outstretched fingertips, hurtling towards the beast. Dozens of paces from the creature, those strands split in all directions, looping and interlacing with each other, and expanding outward in ever widening arcs. They rose higher and higher over the head and body of the beast and began to descend and close in, all of this happening every bit as quickly as the flash of lightning the beast had flung at her moments before. Even as the weave contracts on itself, Fia adds strand after strand of air, hundreds of them, each following the ones before. Each grouping laced to form a similar lattice net to the first. They followed the one before, rising above and to the sides of the beast and descending in layers, reaching for it, clawing at it, pressing it down to the earth. The first net reached her attacker and became hard as bands of steel and iron. It drove down upon it, trying to force its head and neck down to the earth. Faster and faster she spun, quicker than the eye could follow. Net after net came, adding its weight to those before.

Fiallain wove as she had never woven before. She did not consciously know what it was she was doing – there was no plan or reasoned purpose behind each thing that she did. She worked solely now by instinct, much the way she had learned on her own to use the power in the deserts of the three-fold-land, but on a much grander scale, with much higher stakes. Before she even realized what it was she was doing, threads of earth and water added to the mix and the ground beneath the beast grew slick and thick with mud, the very weight of the creature making it sink into the earth. Bolts of fire followed, baking that mud around the creature until it was hard as rock. More air, water, earth, fire, even spirit followed on and on in a silent onslaught as she threw everything she could summon up in that moment upon their enemy and she was drenched head to toe in sweat and gasping for breath…

So.. that’s a lvl 12 ‘harden air”. :P If she can, she is going to weave it so the flanks of the creature are left exposed – an opening for our melee people to attack.

Also, Rizzen, if she feels her hold on the power start to slip, she is going to immediately tie this thing off so it is not lost.

Shocked and jarred by the force of the monstrosity's roar, Alathea continues to help Kodokura out of the rubble and onto his feet, but the very sight of the beast draws her attention like a loadstone draws iron. She watches as Fiallain faces it down by herself, helpless as of yet to do anything to assist her sister. She grasps desperately for saidar, just as desperately as she attempts to return Kodokura to his senses.

Round 1: I'm not sure how long she'll be stunned, but as soon as she can, Alathea will attempt to surrender to saidar. If it works out that Kodokura's ready to link before then, she'll do so as part of a circle with him.
