I am moving stealthily back.


Ok sounds good guys. Give me a hand with the counting the squares of movement and so forth, I am logging in from borrowed mobile devices at the moment, wifi is no good where I am.

Edit: I counted one half move (2 squares) and one full move (4 squares)

The grumbling orcs seem to reach an agreement, and proceed up the stairs.

I moved the tokens on the map, I gave them a single move action after wasting time arguing with each other, so they haven't burst out the door at the top of the stairs yet.

The former Lieutenant curses at the Deputies report, "Black orcs? This better not be Herron's Canyon all over again. Right, pull back to us. The hall will bottleneck the pricks."

Sidestepping a poorly aimed glob of webbing, Damien relays the info to Kev, "Get Leo free, squad of pikers on their way up. Dark, rough and stubborn these ones. We'll need the boy with his wits about him!"

Turning his attention back to the spider, Damien looks to finish this quickly, his mind already on the orcs. His lucern hammer arcs high, crushing the second spider (blue) against the nearby rafter, sickly yellow ichor spilling to the floor.

Round Two

Posting out of turn because Jerrid isn't in with the spiders and later I am pretty busy. Rather not slow things down.

Jerrid legs it back down to the door and tries to lock the basement door temporarily. He works quickly, feverishly with the guttural sounds of the orcs getting closer.

Disable device: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13

But the pick twists in his gnarled fingers and gets stuck in his haste!


Round 2
The last spider desperately tries to snare it's prey again. Janna looks pretty tasty.

Round 2 Orcs

As Jerrid stands at the door trying to jigger the lock shut, he hears the orcs tramp up the stair and the door swings open. A hulking black orc towers over him.

Grapple: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

The orc picks Jerrid up by the scruff of the neck, and growls back at it's fellow orcs in their ugly sounding language. Jerrid can see that they are gesturing to back up down the stair.

I suppose there is a chance you would get an AoO here Jerrid, if you think you would have been wielding a melee weapon while doing a disable device check. What do you think? Is thieves tools on lock a two hand job? Or would jerrid still have a knife at the ready while he worked? You decide.

The rest of the orcs seem to be tramping back down the stairs, with the next in line behind the one that grabbed up Jerrid staying to make sure the deep gnome can't slip free.

Kevezyat approaches Leo, keeping an eye on the remaining spider scuttling about in the rafters.

Looking down at the webs sticking the priest to the floor, Kevezyat brings Valkyria up and runs the blade along the webs at Leo's feet, surmising the sword's antipathy towards spiders may also apply to the sticky webs.

As the tusker-noir grabs for Jerrid, Vhillish curses under his breath;

"Rumbled sah! I'll try and buy the malingerers some time! Best you breach from your side also - double time!!"

The gnome then raises his arbalest at the offending black orc and steps forward and calls out the brute;

"Trust you speeky Common yes? Drop the gnomiz... or I skewer your blakk chops in the name of those who fell at Herron's Canyon whot!"

Sam takes out his crossbow and readies an ambush.

Do I have a shot at the orc?


The orc had to lean through the doorway to snatch Jerrid. By peering around the corner, Sam can get line of site to that orc. However, it is a bit of a trick shot. -4 penalty to hit.

The orc grunts when Vhillish announces himself. It is plain to see he doesn't intend to obey the deputy. The orcs are still planning to withdraw down the stair into the basement level with Jerrid.

Sense Motive DC 12:
The orc did not seem to comprehend Vhillish, meaning these foul orcs have never even had enough contact with civilization to learn the common tongue.

Sam and Vhillish still have standard actions available to them if they desire.


Kevezyat Web Burst: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Kevezyat fails to free Leoven.

Damien swings to the rafters but misses with his hammer.

Round 3 Spiders

The sole remaining scuttles out of reach of the hammer and chucks a web at Damien.

Web: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 6 - 2 = 10 miss

Text of entangled condition for those still stuck in webs:
The character is ensnared. Being entangled impedes movement, but does not entirely prevent it unless the bonds are anchored to an immobile object or tethered by an opposing force. An entangled creature moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity. An entangled character who attempts to cast a spell must make a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) or lose the spell.

Entangled characters can roll escape artist or strength -4 to burst the webs. Other characters can roll strength chefcks to burst the entangled characters without penalty.

Jerrid goes limp then launches himself like an eel at the open doorway.

When and if he gets free, Jerrid legs it back twenty feet to the others. He pulls out his gray skinned sickle on the move.


Wow, Jerrid does pop free with that roll. I thought it was opposed versus the grapple roll, but I checked. It is vs CMD. Jerrid is loose.

Jerrid makes it just past the deputy before drawing his sickle.

Realizing that the sword wasn't especialy useful for dealing with webs, Kevezyat returns it to its harness and commences to tear at the webs confining Leo.

here is the question.. the concentration check to use my SLA is 15 plus spell level, but it does not have a spell level. so what to roll?

in any event, Janna struggles to get a view of the remaining spider. I never get the weather wrong, and today looks like a lightning storm.

I'm fairly certain it should act as a first level spell Janna. You should be good with that roll no matter what.

Personally I'm a little amazed a how badly the random number gods are treating us with those escape checks. I'm sure you'll be free eventually Leo :P

He twirls the sickle briefly to help narrow his focus back into battle.


OK Janna's concentration check looks good, but did she apply the penalty to the attack roll? Those webs impair your aim.

Samduc's surprise shot hits the orcs in the throat. It gurgles blood from it's mouth. To everyone's amazement, the foul orc staggers forward despite the seemingly fatal wound.

These things have DR 1/- but sam still dropped him to negative HP. However, they have orc ferocity as well.

The orc steps forward. And Vhillish shoots. snarl

It steps forward again. Another quarrel flies but this one sticks in the armor.

This thing is at -6 and still coming at you.

The orc howls something in it's foul tongue. The footsteps receding on the stairway stop, and start coming back up. Closer.


Round 3 - Orcs

The wounded orc advances on Vhillish, dropping it's spear and lunging in to bite with it's tusky maw. It is slow though from it's wounds and pauses, choking on blood. staggered

Behind it, the others flood out into the hall, lining up and thrusting past it with their spears.

Longspear: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 miss


Out in the courtyard a cheer from the bandits is heard.

Damien sidesteps another glob of webbing, his hammer sweeping up towards to smash into it's source. His eyes meet the Paladin's, "Go! We've got this. You look after the runts, they're in a heap of trouble!"

He reaches out to Vhillish, "Holy reinforcement incoming Deputy. Just hold a little longer!"

The little bugger scuttles into a far high corner and cowers behind the protection of the rafters.

Once there she breaks into a run as she heard the guttural voiced of the orcs and Vhillish's own pithy comments...

Calm under the face of the pain resistant uber orc phalanx, Vhillish hears his CO's orders;

"Right you are sah! Bloody bounders are made of tough stuff whot! But not tougher than our collective steel by jingo!"

Seeing his primary foe is spearless the canny veteran shifts back to give himself some firing room (5ft Step backward) and reloads as he does (Move Action)

Then lets fly again at the persistant brute:

You can get all the way into the room with a double move Kev. I imagine you'd like to be behind either Jerrid or Sam? Sam being further into the room. Which would you prefer?

I'm correct in reading that the last spider is now out of reach of Damien's hammer DMG?
