Jaru Toth |
edited spell list to make previous casting of sw more obvious. I vote that we head into the cellblock north and keep circling around. we could also go through and drop the portcullis. won't stop it, but might delay it a bit. or not. honestly, Emmett has enough weapons to require a caddy. surely melting a couple won't matter much? ; )
Elidal Zemiel |
Okay, here we go...
As the group leads the ooze back to the torture room, Elidal climbs up on the nearest thing that can support her weight, which happens to be the table in the center of the room. "Try leading it back to the cell block, it doesn't seem able to outpace us at least!" she calls as she readies her crossbow.
I think that's all her actions to move, get on the table, and draw/load her crossbow. She'll be able to shoot on the next round.
Nalun Phlithmira |
I have only sporadic access to the map...
Nalun will move in concert with the group and will fire a crossbow at the Ooze if he can.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
Simeon Plavini |
Simeon seems caught up in his fascination for the living ooze, needing to be nudged to back away.
A look of annoyance passes over his face, but then he nods and joins the others in giving way.
Bringing his crossbow to bear, he loads one of the new magical bolts in place, then fires.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 = 5
Yeesh
Emmett Escheus |
I heard it said that a good golfer needs all his sticks...
Emmett nods: "Yes, let's get it to go around obstacles. IF YOU CAN'T ATTACK IT, THEN THROW THINGS IN ITS PATH!!!" he shouts, now nervously putting away the axe he's become so reliant on and getting his ranseur ready.
Move action to stow away weapon, and move while getting the ranseur out.
Jaru Toth |
"We can keep it circling around the cell block until we've whittled it down from a distance," Jaru suggests and summons a glittering bone athame that swoops at the blob. He then continues retreating as he reloads his crossbow.
when my turn comes around- cast spiritual weapon and all around the mulberry bush.
Round 2?
athame whammy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Emmett Escheus |
Emmett squares his shoulder and waits for the right moment to take a great downward swing at the monstrosity, then quickly retreats hopefully out of its reach.
Ranseur PA: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 152d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
GM Helaman |
The ooze persues the party and rolls over the bones of the Warden that were set on the floor, dissolving them.
End round 1
Round 2. Jaru from outside the room casts spiritual weapon (adjusted your location so you can see the ooze in order to have the weapon attack it). The weapon lands a solid hit on the mass. Elidal shoots her bow . Emmett readies for the creatures attack.
Nalun and Simeon up.
Simeon Plavini |
Simeon, still marvelling at how the ooze pulled itself along the ground, gasping as it moved over the Warden's remains, dissolving the bones.
Rummaging in his pouch he pulls out one of his spent siphons, full of the essense of haunt.
"Let's see what effect undead essense has upon this primordial creature." Simeon says dryly, carefully tossing vial at the ground right in front of the creature...
Haunt Siphon, thrown: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Damage, negative energy: 1d6 ⇒ 2
GM Helaman |
Botting Nalun. Elidals crossbow bolt hits.
Nalun loads and shoots off his crossbow.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
1d8 ⇒ 6
The bolt lands with a splat and breaks off more of the creature.
The creature goes for the nearest non moving creature... Emmett.
Emmetts prepared attack goes off and breaks off a large chunk of it... the creature itself moved too far to attack.
End of round.
Party up
Nalun Phlithmira |
Crap. Sorry GM. Also, the map won't load at home for me, so I cannot see it.
Nalun reloads his weapon, and if he has a sightline Light Crossbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 1d8 ⇒ 6
He he doesn't have a sightline or the party continues moving...he just reloads and moves.
Emmett Escheus |
"Don't stay there! Get back! Get back!" grunts Emmett with a rumbling voice as he moves away from the creature and prepares to strike it when it comes near. "BEHIND ME!!!"
Withdraw action. Double move.
Elidal Zemiel |
"Steady...stay clear, but slow and steady should win the day here," Elidal calls as she witnesses chunks of the ooze breaking off under their combined onslaught. She moves after Emmett, attempting to maneuver behind him.
Double move as well, though she'll technically wait for the others to move before she does.
Jaru Toth |
Jaru frowns as Simeon releases a captures soul, but is too busy to rebuff him at the moment. He fires and reloads as he continues backing away, but keeping the ooze in sight.
Round 3
athame whammy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
pb bow: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 1 = 12
damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 = 6
Elidal Zemiel |
"Well done!" Elidal exclaims, offering Nalun a friendly pat on the back before turning to regard the puddle of acid. "It won't be able to reform, will it?" she asks in a slightly nervous tone. "And Father Toth has a valid question as well - are those siphons meant to be thrown once they've been filled?"
Emmett Escheus |
Emmett throws his ranseur and stares in disbelief at his companions, arms akimbo: "What do you all mean? Did Simeon release that dead killer?!"
Nalun Phlithmira |
Nalun glances around nervously and then comes to the defense of his learned comrade Professor Plavini would know better! He isn't some unlearned fool. He is a Lecturer at the Great University of Leipstad!
Simeon Plavini |
Simeon glances up from where he was crouched, looking down at the remains of the ooze, "The siphon did not contain the 'haunt' as you say, only a portion of its energy. There was no soul or killer , just a type of energy that is antithetical to life, coming as it does from the manifestation of the dead."
Finished his lecture, he glances at Nalun and nods his acknowledgement of his statement, then Simeon rises, still looking down at the smear of acid on the ground, "Facinating...." he mutters.
Jaru Toth |
Jaru keeps frowning. "Learning and foolishness aren't mutually exclusive," he mumbles. "I would prefer that the energy remain trapped in the vials and the vials buried down here with the dead once our task is finished." He leads the others back to the passage only allowing Elidal to take the lead if she wishes.
GM Helaman |
Emmett - your San/stability should be 10 + Will Save or level - which ever is higher. Your Score would be higher than 9/11. Everyone please note that if your Stability falls below 10 you are shaken, below 5 and you are frightened. Below 0? Well I get to drive you insane!
You press onwards... silence and darkness rushing back in at the end of every noise and your fading light to lend an eery cadence of its own in the wake of your passage. The spiritual weapon winks out of existence.
Several iron doors line the walls of this partially ruined cellblock — the doors themselves hang askew on their hinges, revealing empty cells beyond. Partially burnt wooden support timbers still function to the north, while to the south they’ve collapsed and caused cell walls to crumble as well. Rivulets of water drip down the southwestern wall to create a shallow pool in this ruined portion of the room, with overflow filling an oubliette hole in the middle of the room nearly to the rim.
Jaru: + 2 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Simeon: + 1 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Nalun: + 7 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Elidal + 8 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Nothing stands out to you as you enter the room...
Jaru: + 4 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7 * J
Simeon: + 4 1d20 + 4 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 2 - 2 = 23
Emmett: +4 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Nalun: + 3 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 2 = 15 * N
Elidal + 7 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 * E
Just as the silence surrounds you again as you gaze around...
Meanwhile a glowing coalescence seems to surge in the water in the flooded oubliette hole in the middle of the room.
Initiative.
Jaru 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Simeon 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

Splatterman
Simeon
Nalun
Emmett
Elidal
Poor Jaru... Gets a good initiative and loses his mind at the same time. As before I am willing to let you move your initiatives around after the critter. Jaru will need to be 'singled' out for his actions before the Splatterman then everyone else can act. This will be a tough one... see you on the other side all and don't forget the importance of a tactical advance to the rear if it gets too tough for you.
GM Helaman |
The ghost rises from the water, glowing with malevolent light and darts off through a crumbling wall laughing manically with a sound that grates on your very ears.
You can then hear muttering and chanting.

Elidal Zemiel |
Elidal's eyes widen and she gasps in horror, staring at something on the wall next to her. She raises her sword as if to swing at some unseen foe...but with a shudder, turns away from the wall and reaches inward for every bit of strength she can muster. Praise for the Inheritor and for her favor flow forth from her lips as she forces herself to move toward the source of that horrible, horrible laughter...
Divine Favor (10 rounds): +1 Luck Bonus to Attack & Damage

Simeon Plavini |
spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Simeon peers at the apparition forming above the water, deciphering on the fly the meaning of the arcane syllables emerging from....
"He's attempting a summoning! Hold on ....he's casting a spell! This is no haunt! He is something more dangerous!"
"The Splatterman was a scholar in life, it stands to reason that he was a learned man, capable as I , of capturing and manipulating the eldritch energies. So, this spellbook...."
Simeon pulls the spellbook from his pouch once more, looking down upon it, a frown upon his brow. "Well, I can't really beat him with it can I? I know how important my spellbook is to my life, perhaps in death it's import grows..."
Moving forward , holding the book open with one hand, he grasps a page and begins to slowly tear the page from the book, a look of scholarly pain marring his features at what he was doing.
Emmett Escheus |
Emmett's face puckers in a dreadful grimace as he suffers the Splatterman's abominable laughter. For a long moment, it seems as though he's about to bolt away, but he stays there, looking down...
Then the old man shrugs and moves forward, bringing his axe to bear, shouting as he comes to stand at the edge of trouble: "This it right? After we send this one to the Boneyard, we can go home, right? RIGHT?!?"
Move, then ready strike.
PA, IC, and FE undead: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 1 + 2 = 151d12 + 7 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 1 + 2 = 21

Jaru blessed his weapon to pierce the veil and slay the incorporeal.
GM Helaman |
Round 2.
Jaru blesses his weapon with Pharasma's power.
A spectral figure coalesces and takes shape next to Eliday as an ectoplasmic figure of a manic looking man who attacks her, trying to slam her with his ropy dripping limbs.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
He misses.
The Ghostly figure mutters and sends out glowing bolts of energy, striking Simeon and Emmett twice with two missiles a piece (10 damage), and Elidal once (5 Damage).

Simeon Plavini |
Round 2
His face contorted with both glee and horror at his success with the book, Simeon glances with irritation at Nalun's outburst, then he's struck by the bolts of energy, gasping at the icy cold that spreads from the impacts.
Steeling himself, muttering at the unfairness of it all, he rips another page from the spellbook....
Elidal Zemiel |
Elidal yelps in pain as a bolt of energy slams into her shoulder, bringing a throbbing, burning pain despite the protection of her armor. However, she notices that the letter on the wall seems to have faded...could it have something to do with Simeon's destruction of the spellbook?
"You're hurting him, Simeon! I don't know how, but keep it up!" she calls encouragingly as she swings her sword at the figure before her.
