Flare Brent |
Afternoon. No idea really where this is going, but I'm in love with the island itself, sooo. :)
Flare Brent |
Do you have anything against me lowering wisdom by 2 to raise int by 2, and picking up perform(oratory)? I'd be left with 10 wis, 14 int. A few skills would lower by 1, and a few skills raise by 1. And she'd have an auditory performance option that she's skilled in. :)
Riven White |
Checking in, I added a little more story to Riven's profile but I plan to add more as we play on Thanks for accepting me into the game and sorry about all the questions
DireMerc |
Yes Rednal you posted just as I made my other post and I changed it to accept you instead because I read your character's description and I felt it was more suited for what I had in mind.
So congrats if you had posted like 10 minutes later I probably wouldn't have changed it but I figured if I was quick enough nobody would see the edit but it seems that even thought I changed it after only a few seconds some people saw it anyway.

This RP... I... I think the DM has created the Breakfast Club.
Okay, so not a perfect analogy, but I was definitely realizing I made an artsy cheerleader type. Riven is a geek. Victor is a nerd. Tormod is a golden boy jock. Cynthia is our resident goth. I guess that leaves Thalion to be the hunter (sounds a lot better than 'redneck' :P)? :P
Thalion Hopson |
Hey, look! A discussion thread!
I am so not a hunter...I am, well, I suppose I'll be the hunter. Just remember to scoot a little when I pick up a bow.
Tormod! I noticed Hope inspired your last name as well! You should change your last name to match mine! I meant it as an adopted surname, reflecting I am a son of Hope. How cool would that be! That's a lot of exclamation points!
Riven White |
Wow,thats a lot of posts
Sorry for not posting much I'll see what I can do to increase my posting rate

Tgat's pretty much the same effect I was going for. I've been rereading A Song of Ice and Fire and was going for something like Snow, Sand, Rivers Pyke all the bastard surnames.
Flare Brent |
Flare's surname came at random. For once I didn't agonize myself with a perfect name. I'm also reading a book by Wheaton, which may have put Data in my head. Not really sure. I just ran with it. Flare was much more intentional. :)
Flare Brent |
Anything against Flare taking Sylvan as her bonus language?
Flare Brent |
Problem is, I hadn't taken it before languages were important. I'd probably have gone ignan or terran (I'm torn. Stoneform v. well.. connecting to her name.) But Sylvan is also a very pretty language and definitely -couldn't- be selected for the sake of passing this test.
Thalion Hopson |
lol. The double post turned out not to be a double post. Thalion is running around on a wild goose chase for likely a non-existent comprehend language scroll or two. Let's see if we have any better luck with the gargoyle's riddle...
I'm game. Let's see if cooler heads can prevail (counting on you all :) ).
So glad we're here and actively trying to get through this. Really cool thing to be happening, especially for a pbp!

The obvious solution to the force-and-object paradox I've always found is the force just redirects around it, like water going over a rock or since it's just immovable the force breaks through it.
Cynthia, Shaman of Hope |
Alternatively, the two destroy each other - in which case the defensive force is arguably the winner, since it stopped the offensive force, while the offensive force failed to get through the defense.
Flare Brent |
Problem is, light is unstoppable. And reflects. :P You know. Other than the wavelengths that get absorbed. But then that just gets radiated back...
Another option is that the unstoppable force is life. And the immovable object is fate. The unstoppable force dies.
Thalion Hopson |
Ok, it looks like Flare has many ideas.
I'm not sure about 3. That looks like it's about alignments.
Flare Brent |
Yeah, but with the missing one being the third, 'all are equally 'good'' is hard to throw out there without inserting your own answers.
I suspect 3 will let you through just by answering... the point is that they know what you think the answer is, or what you think they want to hear. Divination is also a great way to watch how the kiddies are doing. :)
Thalion Hopson |
Doh...Sadly I am up to the task of my intelligence...I have no answer.
As a technicality, it says they meet, but not necessarily they're trying to oppose each other. So, can the force just continue on after the meeting, leaving the unmovable object where it is?
Of course, it might just be a matter of overthinking things. I do know philosophically this is a paradox of some kind.
Flare Brent |
Yeah. It's an oldschool paradox. The important note is that an immovable object can only exist in a pretend world, as it's an object that does not in any way react to outside forces. Which... isn't a thing that can actually happen. So Thalion's guess is the best we can really offer, I think, besides 'neither can exist while the other does.'
Flare Brent |
Scared now.
Thalion Hopson |
I wonder if it could be something like the Superman vs Doomsday thing. They both "died". Of course, in epic comics fashion, they both came back. But at the actual point of meeting that was essentially the outcome.
Not that Thalion would know anything about Superman or Doomsday...
Flare Brent |
Laaaame. Flare gonna die.
Thalion Hopson |
Grr...that's what I get for learning my superman lore at Barnes and Nobles. Here's hoping Cynthia's got it. Victor, was that what you were thinking?
Flare Brent |
It's what google turns up... so probably.
Did you figure it out via google (and probably wikipedia?), Cynthia?
DireMerc |
This is dnd those things actually do exist!
Orb of annihilation (unstoppable force) and wall of force (unmovable object)
In this case when they impact each other they cancel each other out and both are destroyed.
The answer I was looking for is "They must yield" or "both are destroyed" or "a stalemate" anything that would indicate a tie anyway.
Flare Brent |
The problem, though, is that if the force is destroyed, it immediately stops. It's gone. Which means it was never unstoppable if it was caused to stop. :) In other words, an unstoppable force cannot exist while there is something capable of stopping it ;)
Flare Brent |
Also, I suspect that the guy in the room with us with the knife probably has a bit of illusion or transmutation magic affecting him :p
I figure he's there to make sure no one kills themselves in here.
Flare Brent |
But then we say that Flare is wrong for the sake of false logic! :P
:) You're the DM though. So, I'll run with it :p Flare will still be positive that the stupid gargoyle was stupid.
Thalion Hopson |
I hope you're right, Flare. Thalion is feeling the fear of death for the first time in his sixteen years. Well, except that time he dared Tormod to jump off the cliff into the lake, took off to beat him to it into the water, and almost lost his footing on the jump!
I'm going to go with Flare being wrong AND the gargoyle being stupid. Not that I would say that aloud...
Flare Brent |
Does Flare get her AoO on the ragebeast as it steps through her weapon's range?
Edit: I'm thinking that the intent is that he doesn't say she's wrong until he's already on top of her, yeah? So she wouldn't attack if that were the case.
