The only shipping option I get for this is $50. I know the box set is packed full of stuff and thus pretty heavy, but is this right?
Yep—it weighs about 6 pounds, and the since the USPS discontinued Surface Mail this past year, the only reasonable option from any shipper for international items over 4 pounds is USPS International Priority, which is not cheap. On the plus side, I think you'll find that you can add a fair amount of stuff to that order without increasing the shipping cost a lot.

Crazy_cat, it looks like Castle Whiterock is still available on Goodman Games' online store at $49.99. It's not clear what shipping would amount to there, though.

Thanks for the update Vic. Shame that by the time I came back to the site you'd sold out :(
Yeah I seriously considered this, but it would have ended up costing me around AUS$160 just for this module. I might have been able to add one or two more things, but not a huge amount more if it's that large/heavy.
Looks like the .pdf might be the way to go for 5 bucks.Masika |
It is actually cheap from Goodman Games... If you look right down the bottom on the sale page (http://www.goodman-games.com/store.html) it tells you that the internation shipping on Castle Whitrock is 20USD. Goodman is charging on price purchased not weight. Here is the table
Order Value USA Canada World
$1.00-$19.99 $4.00 $6.00 $10.00
$20.00-$99.99 $5.00 $10.00 $20.00
$100+ Free $20.00 $40.00
My only complaint is that it is 6-8weeks to get international. I ordered stuff and paid via paypal in late November. Contact with Goodman reveals that the items will be shipped off later this week. Since then the Australian dollar has gained 9 US cents... would have saved a bit.

I can't speak for other companies on their policies, but for Paizo-published PDFs, we don't mind if you print a copy for personal use only.
Vic, that's good to know. Other than this post is there any place that's documented? I'm a supervisor at the local Staples Copy Center and it would be nice to have any type of documentation in case anyone (such as a District or Regional Manager) ever calls us on it.
EDIT: Sorry for the threadjack, but I'm glad I stumbled across this.

I'll have to look into this, because if I am not allowed to print a PDF for personal use, no matter where, then I should quit buying PDF's.
I think the answer to your question is pretty simple. AfaIk there are options when creating pdfs which disable printing options, same as there are options to include your customer data in the pdf or to sell them unmarked.
To my knowledge all Paizo pdfs and those of the larger rpg pdf sites enable printing. So I wouldn't worry about that.

Günther
P.S. The only exception known to me was the d20 Swords and Throne RPG. The pdfs sent to early purchasers of that product where "print protected"

We only offer our PDF partners the option to watermark or not; printing is always allowed by our software. So just because you *can* doesn't mean you're *allowed to*.
Nonetheless, I'd be pretty surprised if there are any PDF publishers out there who wouldn't allow printing for personal use—but I can't, legally speaking, volunteer that permission on their behalf.

Hi Vic,
from an official perspective you are certainly right. From a customer perspective I'd question any pdf publisher's good intentions when legally restricting usage of their pdfs to read only - and neither using the technical possibilities to technically create read-only files, nor clearly stating in the pdfs that these legal restricrions exist.
Actually I never needed to print out any rpg pdfs - but it's certainly good to know that user rights for non Paizo pdfs are that unclear..
Cheers,
Guenther
PS:
I wouldn't expect any publisher to permit anything but printing for personal use - similar to the legal texts found next to character sheets of various rule books.

Stan, the copyshops should ask you to show them some sort of permission. (I was working at Kinko's Copies when the Time of Troubles came down.)
That's one of the reasons I like the little personalization lines that Paizo applies to all the pages. It adds weight to my claim that I have the right to download and print those pdfs.

Exactly. If you came into my store without documentation I wouldn't print it for you. Chris is right; by implication if they don't ask for documentation they aren't doing their jobs.
You also have to look at it from our perspective - we get hit hard if we do anything against copyright and we take it seriously. That was why I asked Vic about it. The most common thing we see are school pictures and such. We just can't do those without permission from the photographer. It's easy; just a simple signature is needed. Yes, it annoys customers and we hate disappointing them, but it's not worth the legal fees that could occur.
