The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

yeah I am heading there next, also got figure out what happened with Sun since his transport back to the school might have left without him.

need to sort through that scene to figure out what all is going on.

I have had a real busy past couple of days, with barely any real posting time available

Sun got teleported back, if he opted to, with Star Seed being.

Now you have me confused!

See, I found Gary Oldman's argument in that scene to be very compelling - he is right, in a fashion. But that same scene also illustrates the problem - eventually destruction comes for you too.

That being said, I think instead of conflict, one might substitute competition and have the same basic argument without the nuances of violence "conflict" usually implies.

It can be, but when I hear any one say

"Survival of the fittest"
I then have to spend long amounts of time explaining to this just what
Fitness means in a Darwinian context.

Some seek to promote the view that life fights endlessly in pit.
That fighting is all that matters, but thats not what happens at all.

Its about forms of life fitting in explorable niches or making new ones to exist in. Some of the most successful form of life on earth, the most "fit" are microscopic and live off sunlight and elements. They have outlive the dinosaurs and will most likely out live us. Shocking as that sounds. Modern humans are only 200,000 to 500,000 years old as a form of life. We have bacteria in our guts that have been around longer than that.

There is a rule in nature to do with fitness

"A species that over exploits its its niche makes itself unfit."
A thermo-Nuclear war would do just that, just as over exploitation of our environment will.

For all our so called smarts we brake the rule and so, our story is over.

The thing you should think of was what was going throw the mind of the human who cut down the last tree on Ester Island. Did he win the fight to get the last tree, beating all others so that he could have the prize. To late seeing what a mistake the whole thing had been.

bit like fighting wars for oil today, the right to pollute more.

We could us our minds and thing of better ways, we could see the mistakes we are making, But the unfit voices back just say.
This is the way it is, now pass me the axe.

Baboon

For Sara's benefit, Sun will stay with her.

When did this turn into an environmental discussion?

I'm all in favour of environmental protection, and finding - as you said - new and more efficient niches for energy production. But you yourself cannot pretend you are outside of that system Capt. You are using the internet after all, one of the biggest pollution generators on the planet. (As an example, if the Internet was a country, it would be in the Top 5 polluters in the world).

Yes, people are short-sighted and selfish. But the point is - you cannot stop that man cutting down a tree if he is using that to feed his family. He doesn't care about the environment. He cares about right now... and right now, his family needs money.

Because that discussion isn't just about big evil companies and people not caring about the planet and all that other crap that people spout. Down there in South America, each person that cuts down a tree does it to survive.

As much in favour of population control as I am, you cannot condone the slaughter of billions of people simply because we are too populous.

When it comes down to it, there are no easy answers. You cannot possibly suggest that everyone on earth should stop driving, stop flying planes, stop using the internet. (Stop having electricity, etc). It's not a solution, because of the realities - not of whole countries or groups, but of individuals persons.

Yes, we might be doomed. We might have already totalled our planet beyond repair. But I'll still have hope that we as a species will find solutions to these problems. We will compete with ourselves such that we find ways of living within our means. And maybe... just maybe... one day we'll live long enough explore the stars. :)

Affect no change because one can't think of a way to do it now, seems the most short sighted view of all to me.

And that is most certainly not a position which I am expounding.

I said there are no easy answers. Not that there are no answers.

Any solution will be complex, as this problem is complex.

You are making it out to be something simple, which it is most definitely not. It is an immensely complex problem, and will require an equally complex solution - it ain't going to be solved by one person or by one set of policies. It's nice to spout rhetoric about "evil companies" and "wars to see who gets to pollute the most", but that's simply that - rhetoric. It doesn't help anyone with anything.

I think we can stop here, I just wanted to show the POV of my PC.

FireclawDrake:

The rhetoric you talk of, you posted not me, your adding a whole debate path, one well trod by others but one i myself do not walk. By all means feel free to try and place on that rhetorical path, but I really don't fit on it I assure you.

As for war, it has been argued that humans are waging war on other forms of life, that the massexstion we are currently in stands as testament to that war. When human gained self awareness we move from being reactors to inflicters, from need to greed.
This is anything but simplistic a view, it is highly localised to human cultures, groups and down to individuals themselves. But this dos not mean it is to complex to address, we must seek to if humans want longevity on the evalutinery scale of things.

I'll stop there, please feel free to comment, II am not the type to always want the last word. But I worry we may be getting of game topics to much. This as I said was just to show my PCs point of view.

now I wonder what DK had in mind for Mel....anyone know what the note was? I'd hate to blow it off till later.

I'm a little dissapointed at the no-reaction to Asha's panties from Arthur. Though, I suppose playboys gotta play it cool. ;P

Might want to avoid Kuros townsfolk though-- they have cooties.

Heh.

I love how on Friday's, it already feels like the weekend has started sometimes.

S L O W . . .

Fun times. Enjoy the holiday, y'all, if it's something you normally would (or not).

Happy Good Friday, all. :)

What color is Mel's sonic light?

I don't know about the rest of these guys, but I have class on friday evenings. :P

But only for three more weeks. Cannot get this semester over with fast enough.....so I can start applying to different schools so I can get my bachelors....apparently I am a glutton for punishment. :/

This would have all been so much easier if I had finished college on the first try....stupid poor health ruining my perfectly good plans...

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

Anyways, gaming tomorrow night. (Wooooo!) We restarted after a two year hiatus and are now starting to make progress in Shackled City. A highly modified version of Shackled City, but hey...it was the only way we were ever going to get an urban campaign. :)

And then Easter. Which I am not at all sure how we are celebrating. I mean, other than the Easter Egg Hunt for the kidlet. Guess I should figure out if I'm supposed to be cooking Easter dinner or not. :S

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

And now I'll get back to posting in the game thread....

Should I have mel just be on her way with a note that she can't read (until DK returns) to let me know what it says? I am sure the note will have pretty big influence on her attitude.

I'm trying to draw it. Any defining characteristics?
