As Syl approaches, Ambrose backpedals to keep out of reach, retreating further into the hold. His eyes narrow to malicious slits and he exhales a long stream of smoke from his nostrils. He raises a hand and snaps his fingers, and as he does, the light in the hold dims unnaturally.

5 foot step away, standard action to use darkness spell-like ability, centered on his right-hand glove.

The Storyteller

Getting into the kitchen was an easy task, surviving the cooker bad breath was a hell of a difficult one. The kitchen is a madness of dirt, food, and knives; it’s hard to find anything here. The stoves are perpetually lit, and large cauldrons bubble away atop them all times. The cramped and chaotic kitchen holds two wooden worktables, several wooden cupboards, and two small stoves against the port wall, as well as virtually every cooking utensil imaginable and a frightening array of meat cleavers. A score of chickens and three goats wander freely throughout the chamber; the goats are meant to be caged, but have a distressing tendency to escape their bonds.
”So ye came back The JagDwarf!” says the drunken cooker ”let’s cook!” he laughs and with Boldwin help, today’s meal was something really good!

Ambrose went to work, and work he did! Briefly he went to foredeck, but he was only able to notice what he already knew: This raised deck stands some 10 feet above the main deck (area A3), immediately behind the bowsprit, which is shaped like a rearing dragon. The foremast rises 30 feet above this deck.
At the end of the day, he is more than just tired.

After dealing with the spider, Dhugal went to explore the ship, Sixteen pillars support the deck above this spacious hold above the bilge. This is were, at night the Wormwood’s common pirates tie their hammocks between the walls and pillars and sleep until dawn. Two of Mr. Plugg’s toadies, Kipper and Patch Patchsalt, have claimed the far forward section of the hold as their own, and their hammocks are strung between the foremast and the stairs leading up to the middle hold. A trap door just behind the mainmast opens onto the bilges below. The hold is currently empty of cargo, but several footlockers line the walls. Each member of the crew has a locker.

Ambrose's eyebrows arch in surprise and his inhuman eyes momentarily cloud over with a manic look. His tail twitches back and forth as he reaches for the book, sliding it over to him. He lifts the book closer, examining it. It appeared for all the world to be his spellbook; the black leather cover smelling faintly of brimstone, the sigil of Asmodeus embossed in dark red. He gulps, fighting to maintain control of himself. Looking back to Sandara with an appraising look, his mind races with questions. Does she know what this is? Where did she find it? Was it truly lost, or merely taken? Could she have taken it? Just as quickly, he answers them for himself. In a slow, cautious voice, he says, "Thank you, Ms. Quinn. I am...in your debt." He gestures to an empty spot where Dhugal might have sat. "Please, join us."

Boldwin grunts, eying the book with a brow that is raised ever so slightly. Its significance was lost on him. Still, he did not seem to object to the pirate woman's presence, if only because she was the first friendly face they had met on the ship.It didn't hurt that she was pretty damned good-looking, either.

”No debts, I did not come here to make you have any obligation with me” she says ”Now, what about the other one in the Bilges? Will you help me help him?”

As the wizard seems to take the offer with gratitude, Sh'torek relaxes. Looking up at the woman as she speaks of Dhugal, "I will help. What must be done?"

”We can’t free him. That would only bring more attention and punishment.” then she adds ”But if you are able to create a distraction… maybe I can sneak and bring him food and healing.”

Ambrose nods. "Those were my thoughts as well. I believe I may be of some use in distracting the others," he says, tracing the sigil on the book with his finger.

With a silent image up our sleeve, there are plenty of directions we could go with this. So far, my favorite ideas are illusionary striptease or challenge the whole ship to put out the illusionary flame on the candle. Anybody got any better ideas?

Sh'torek nods. "That is good. I was at a loss on how to distract them without getting myself beat to death by the lash."

Illusion magic sounds like a perfect idea. I am more along the lines of a ghost spirit, maybe? Ghost ship, possibly? Don't really know the parameters of this spell so I'm just throwing those out there. Just something that distracts them for at least several moments. As long as they don't find out it's you casting the magic. Odds are we really don't want that.

”I was thinking in something not so fancy, but that will do. Imma go grab something for him to eat. Back in ten” she says the she leaves.

Ambrose leans in closer to the others. "Aboard the Imp's Purse, there were times when I was called to use my powers to...put on a show." He grimaces, looking uneasy with the idea, but he presses on. "It will require some music, and we shall need to extinguish the torches, but holding the crowd's attention will be no trouble."

"Music? Where are we to get music?" Sh'torek looks around for anyone with an instrument. "If you can find one who plays music, I'll shall put out the lights when the playing begins. Hopefully the music will be enough of a distraction for none to notice. Hopefully."

Not sure how I would go about extinguishing torches but whatever it takes I guess.
