The End is Nigh

Friday, May 12, 2017

Happy Friday! To polish off Pathfinder Battles: Crown of Fangs set, this week we are starting with the Reclamation Squire, a medium common. This gal take putting down evil seriously. Based off of art from the Hell's Vengeance Adventure Path, the shield and chainmail detailing are awesome. It is also always nice to see a woman warrior in combat appropriate armor, with a combat appropriate haircut. Bad to the bone.

Next we have the Reclamation Knight, a medium uncommon. This miniature represents, hopefully, what your squire becomes after righting enough wrongs, and ending enough evil schemes. Love the detailing on the helmet, and the more ornate shield. This miniature is also based off of art from the Hell's Vengeance Adventure Path.

The Monstrous Skeleton is a large uncommon miniature. Because when having humanoid skeletons isn't enough, Paizo has you covered. Maul your player's characters to your heart's content with this bestial baddy, which is based off of art from the Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path.

Finally, Shadowcount Sial is a medium rare miniature. This guy is a devout priest of Zon-Kuthon, one of our more cheery deities, as you can see from his joyful smile. Who wouldn't find serving The Midnight Lord a pleasure? This miniature is based off of art from the Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path, and would work great as a priest, ranger, slayer, fighter, of whatever else you choose.

The Squire and Knight really round out the reclamation troops. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on this set soon.

Loving the undead guy. Mr. Beakys dead relative.

Official "street date" is wednesday the 17th of may.

If i´m lucky, i should get my case in about 10 hours. ;-)

Time to talk about the next set - too early?

Erik and Michael, this one goes to you:

It seems to me that set #13 "Maze of Death" (scheduled for october 2017) could have a few of the (up to this point) neglected plant creatures in it (Viper Vine is confirmed - yay).

Are any of the 15 following creatures that were never produced in PPM in the set and if yes, how many? ;-)

-Assassin Vine (large)
-Basidirond (medium)
-Boar (medium)
-Dolphin (medium)
-Giant Leech (large)
-Mohrg (medium)
-Morlock (medium)
-Nymph (medium)
-Octopus (small & large)
-Pteranodon (large)
-Squid (medium)
-Vegepygmy (medium)
-Violet Fungus (medium)
-Yellow Musk Creeper (medium)

If there are at least 3 in it, i´ll buy a case (which i will most probably do anyway)! ;-)

Anyway, thanks for the 12th great Pathfinder Battles set - the dirty dozen is full - here´s to the next twelve! :-)

Dates. Fun with dates.

If I'm lucky, my case will ship Monday, and arrive in Canada a week later, on the 22nd. Only I won't be home. So they'll leave a come-and-get-it-tomorrow-at-the-post-office note. So I'll get it on the 23rd. If I'm lucky.

Then I can open it up, and decide if I need/want any more singles, maybe there'll still be the ones I want because Paizo's going to open up singles sales on the 17th.

Yay.

I'll be starting to run CotCT on the 20th. So yeah, dates.

This month's street date for Paizo products is May 31st, not May 17th.

I believe this has a different street date from the rest. ^_^

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

Pathfinder Battles usually has a different street date from the standard lines, since it is a WizKids product not a Paizo product. Paizo, while owning the IP and licensing it to WizKids with Paizo maintaining design approval, is effectively acting as a retailer for the miniatures. Albeit one with a special relationship. Unfortunately it looks like Paizo received their shipment late. I recall their preview copy was late this time and it looks like that filtered into the commercial shipment.

I don't like that my shipment won't arrive before singles go live, but I understand they still have to compete with other retailers and be reasonable in their warehouse logistics.

You´re right on all accounts.

Paizo can´t compete with other retailers date-wise (you can already buy singles elsewhere), but price-wise Paizo is mostly cheaper. :-)

So, i got my minis and here are my initial thoughts:

-THE INCENTIVE IS OUT OF THIS WORLD - 6 stars!

-The COMMONS are the real stars of the set (Gray Maiden Guard the only exception)!
The face details are really good on the Emperor's Thug, a mini i thought i wouldn´t like, but boy was i wrong.
The Skeleton Infantry and Spearman are really the most beautiful Skeletons ever made!
The Geist is MASSIVE (almost large)!

-The small and medium uncommons are half/half:
Good ones:
both RMAs, Knight, both GMs & the Wereboar.
Meh ones: boy, girl, Cabbagehead, Banshee, Skeleton Champ.

-LARGE UNCOMMONS:
Good:
The Giant Scorpion is the best one - a really great mini.
The Leukodaemon is a huge mini on a large base.
The Red Reaver is much better than i thought, i like it.

Okay:
Issaya (bendy sword).
Death (scythe & "face").
Horned Devil (far away from the D&D one).

Ugly:
Monstrous Skeleton (way to small, medium and a half height).
Bone Devil (too small and "skinny").

-MEDIUM RARES:
Only Sial is unspectacular, Ury, Jolistina & the Emperor are great.

-LARGE RARES:
Now this is the worst part of the case.
The Cavalry looks really awkward, too big and too broad-legged on the too small looking horse.
The Sky Cavalry suffers from the too long wobbly lance.
The Skeleton is the worst - blurry details, too small, bendy lance.
And i didn´t get the Dragon Rider which seems to be the only good large rare!

-DRESSING:
Great:
The Statue is really cool, a little bit smaller than 2x2.
The Well has no ivy, but a nearly clear bottom and a medium base fits inside.

Good:
The Totem (i got two) is nice and will be useful.
The table is satisfying.

Ugly:
The medium stocks are pretty pointless, as no mini can be placed inside.
The lectern is the worst: small and you can only make out a skeletal/demonic figure in the middle, the rest is undiscernable.

All in all this set is a torn one, the good minis are really good, but the bad ones are really meh.

Think the cavalry is worth getting more than one of Marco?

That really depends on what you prefer and have planned adventure-wise.

Personally i could see the use of more than one (a group of maybe 3-4) "Reclamation Cavalry" (the one on horse), even if i would use "The Age of Rag'narok Confrontation" Knights instead.

The "Reclamation Sky Cavalry" is the same, but it's not usable more than once as easily, because of it's rather static look and bendy/wobly lance.

I wouldn't use more than one "Skeleton Cavalry" personally, but inszead the D&D version.

But these are just my personal thoughts/preferences.
You or others might see it different.
I'll try to find a good picture of the cavalry and post the link, otherwise i suggest you wait until wednesday when Paizo will put up single minis pictures and decide then.

When will you receive your case?

Just curious, is being left handed a requirement for this order of knights?

the case will take about 3 weeks, I'm afraid by then the most popular minis will be sold out.

Adventure wise I'm fleshing out the Emerald Spire and Thorn Keep settings where Castle Urion has a base of Griffon Riders.

The only place that already offers single "CoF" minis is auggies, but they have the computer renders up as pictures and the "Reclamation Sky Cavalry" is already sold out (though they will restock at least twice in the next days).

I couldn´t find a good picture online, so the best option is probably to wait till wednesday and look at the picture that Paizo provides in the minis singles section.
It is possible that other sites offer the single minis starting on monday, i´ll notify you when i see some. ;-)

You have probably seen this picture already?

how is auggies with international shipping?
CoolStufInc lost me a package once, probbably ended up in Delaware instead of Germany (DE on the address)

Also again the link to a youtube brick unboxing, unfortunately you only see the
"Skeleton Cavalry",
"Giant Scorpion",
"Leukodaemon",
"Issaya" (Lillend Azata),
"Monstrous Skeleton" (Skeletal Owlbear),
"Death",
"Red Reaver" and
"Bone Devil".

Thanks Marco. Didn't realize auggies orders were up for singles yet. I missed a few,but was able to bulk up the daemons and Demons and get five tables. Little bummed I missed the statues though :(

No problem.

They will probably restock this week, but it's certainly worth it to visit Paizo's singles sales page on wednesday, as their prices don't differ too much (auggies from $2.19-14.95, Paizo from $3.5-16) and it's worth it to support them, especially if you are already a subscriber.
If Paizo would only offer paypal, i'd be all over them, but i have no credit card and don't plan on getting one...

Yeah, I just hate having to order singles before I get my case, cuz I basically have t guess how many uncommons to get.

Auggies has re-stocked some minis.

Singles just went live on CoolStuffInc. So far, Davaulus, Glorio, and Gnome Executioner have sold out.

Pathfinder Maps, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Maps, Starfinder Roleplaying Game, Starfinder Society Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

I don't think they sold out. They all seem to have a rarity of "Fixed". I think that means that they are part of the case incentive, so you can't buy them on their own.

Scarab Sages

When I first went on the site, only Davaulus was like that. The other 2 changed at some point afterwards. They haven't done the case incentive requirements, so someone can order the incentive directly without having to buy a case.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

My set shipped very fast. It left Paizo Monday afternoon and arrived today. The case incentive is shipping with the books and hasn't left yet, but time for me to open my box and see if I need to order any singles. They definitely prioritized the set over other packages, so hopefully everyone else in North America receives theirs this week in time to consider singles.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Mine shipped Monday as well, I'll be thrilled if it is waiting for me when I get home tonight. My case incentive was shipped at the same time, I guess since I don't have any other subscriptions.

Now I can't wait for work to finish.

Silver Crusade Contributor

I'll be cracking my case once I finish breakfast. ^_^

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

I am happy with the set overall. Bendy sword/lance/spear syndrome is fairly common unfortunately. The mounted large rares are great. Tempting to buy more of them when the singles go live. My case yielded one of each rare again. The collation has been very spot on in these sets. My extras on dungeon dressings were the lectern and the stocks. I might try to sell the extra lectern. That grave monument is spectacular. More totems is very tempting.

I see the special promo dungeon dressings from the Dungeon's Deep and Rusty Dragon Inn sets are still in stock. There wasn't one for Deadly Foes either. I wonder if that means that isn't working out. I want more totems and arcane pillars.

Dark Archive

Weren't the singles supposed to be available today on Paizo.com?
I just looked, as i want to rate every single one, but there isn't a section for Crown of Fangs yet. :-o

Maybe they decided to delay the singles to give subscribers a chance to receive and open their cases. A good idea if so in my opinion.

Agreed

Scarab Sages

Latest is that singles will be posted ~ 12pm Pacific time, so in about 100 minutes from now.

I received a case from Paizo yesterday, too. Very fast shipping. Did not receive the case incentive yet.

I had one fig that was broken between the cape and the body - I will try to glue it. One of the spiders was off it's peg, which was easy to fix.

I haven't had time to closely look at the rest, but they seemed good as I took them out of the boxes and stored them on the shelf until this weekend.

Dark Archive

Singles are live.

For those of you on the fence about some of these minis and that would like some better convincing that you need them that computer renders, I've started posting pictures of the real things over on Plasticrypt. It takes time, as I have to dig out comparison minis and I'm actually filing things away as I go, but over the next few days I should get through everything:

I hope not. It'd be nice to enjoy what we (literally just) got for a little while, before immediately jumping into the "now what?" frenzy.

Yes, let me get my new toys sorted and put away before you dump more on me. I may be a pack-rat, but I do like to keep things organized.

Headsup, promo paint of the table from this set is up in the promotional singles section of the store.

Also, as a shameless plug, if anyone has a Wikkawak promo mini they'd be willing to sell/trade/barter/whatever let me know, it's the only repaint I'm missing and I'm trying to get caught up but couldn't go to GenCon.

Dark Archive

The missing 2016 promos are now available:

Kobold Devilspeaker & Wikkawak

In other news:

Three weeks until the release of the "D&D Icons of the Realms Miniatures Epic Level Starter Set 2017".
I won´t be getting this, as i don´t like half of the (six) minis (but the dwarf, elf and invisible halfling are decent).

Six weeks until the release of the "D&D: Icons of the Realms Set 7", of which the title still hasn´t been revealed, nor any details beyond that it has 55 minis.
I´ve written Wizkids and D&D today, i think next week will bring some details. ;-)
