Adrianna shifts onto the balls of her feet and grips the wooden handles of her weapons tucked behind her back, ready for whichever way this conversation went...
Way to go, Amris! You smooth-talker, you ;-)
Daeris Moonhunter |
Daeris began to smile in truth, but it resembled a jackal's hungry leer with no hint of friendly wishes in it, only bloodlust. She said nothing, knowing she would only guarantee them trouble if she spoke her mind in this moment. She stood, waiting at the top of the gangplank arms hanging easily at her sides.
If they continue to press this point, Daeris will let Amris past her, back onto the boat and then block the men's entry at the gangplank. She'll have her blade in hand before they can blink(free action with quickdraw) and attack the lead man, not the wolf if she can help it.
Readied Attack with Curve Blade: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 2 = 26 Damage: 1d10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 = 14 (+2 for human, fav enemy)

Crit Damage: 1d10 + 4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 + 2 = 12 (+2 for humans, +2 killer trait)
Hmm, looks like 26 damage if this goes down. Homeslice better listen to the nice bard or his head is about to go spinning into the drink... XD

Daeris' eager gaze sweeps over the man still on the dock, the blood of his companion still dripping from her blade. She released the supple sword and it thumped to the deck, her lightning quick hands whirling her Darkwood longbow and an arrow off her back. Before the guard could even react, she was knocked, drawn and holding, her aim centered on the man holding the wolf. "Touch the master and I will loose this. Now back away with new gratitude for your life. Young one, cut the tether, quickly!"

Is it safe to assume the mast and gunwales will block any shot from the crossbowman behind us? If not, then I need to change this action to move her into a blocking position...

Nitrus gets to the body of the fallen tough and realises there is nothing to be done, the fellow is stone dead.
The wounded thug goes for his sword, but only gets it halfway drawn when Daeris' arrow hits him from seemingly out of nowhere, dropping him to the dock.

There are a few thuds from bolts hitting the hull of the ship as you pull away from the docks, but they do little other than cosmetic damage. Just as you pull out a throng of angry men begin pouring out of the nearby alleyways cursing and shouting, but the ship is now out of harms way - you quickly rifle the dead mans belongings and hastily dump him in the river

As the Abacus sails smoothly up the Glass River, Amauhak
comes out onto the deck and has a look around, a bit saddened by the violent turn of events. "So, how do you intend to perform the rescue
mission, namely how will you gain access to the inn without arousing unwanted suspicion?"
Daeris Moonhunter |
Daeris meticulously cleans her silvery blade of all traces of the human's blood and the tar from the rope as they plan. She gazes around at her fellow Pathfinders, expecting them to have something to say about the plan or recent events. When no one speaks for a time, she says,
"I believe I have demonstrated how I will deal with trouble, should we encounter it. Should we prefer to avoid trouble, again I would council stealth and subterfuge. What is known about this Inn? How certain are we that our missing envoys are being held there?"

She turned to the Osirion dwarf, "I hope my methods do not offend you, Master Amauhak. Survival does not favor the hesitant, in my experience. Amris looks over to the elf and chuckles softly.
"Remind me fair maiden, not to over extend my welcome with you. I agree with the lady. We will need to be subtle in or approach. I usually like to cover my movement with a cover story laden with truth. Hence, why I tried to lead off with the story of being a merchant in search of new opportunities. I am actually a caravan owner to supplement my archaeological curiosities. Antiquities pay well, but linens pay regular. I am not sure that embellishing about any connection to the church was a wise gamble on my part however.
I am open to other opportunities. We all have a role to play, even if it is just to roleplay."
GM Shifty |
Metella, Passad, and Amauhak listen to your conversation closely.
Metella rises to speak "I suggest you pose as religious pilgrims seeking answers to spiritual questions that require privacy and freedom of movement.", she nods sagely. Passad, rather deprecatingly dismisses Metella’s suggestion "Forget the religious idea, it would be seen through in mere moments! You should pose as merchants seeking a way station for a regular trade caravan, as such a cover would require unfettered access to the property in order to assess its amenities."
Metella is clearly annoyed by Passad and his dismissal "And how did following YOUR wisdom end back there on the docks?" she spits accusingly "with bloodshed that threatened to end our mission before it even began!"
They stop for a moment as Amauhak interjects, brokering for peace. "Regardless of which path is chosen by these wise pathfinders, I strongly encourage them to stay overnight and perform their exploration under cover of darkness." On this point, at least, Metella and Passad seem to concur.
Adrianna Na'lin |
"While I am a seeker of secrets, I might be better seen as part of the merchant cover. And my fighting skills can be kept a secret until they are needed. Perhaps I can be a trading partner, or the daughter of the head of the consortium sent to oversee this exploratory mission?" Adrianna muses.
Daeris Moonhunter |
Daeris nods her agreement, "Yes, Master Amris is a merchant in truth and I will guard you all true enough. Also, it will give me a cover if I am noticed prowling around, since it is reasonable that I might evaluate the Inn's security for future considerations."
She caressed the carved symbol of Ketephys again with her thumb. "But I will never profane my faith with my own lips."
GM Shifty |
There is much nodding at the discussion, and tensions slowly ease.
The river narrows ahead, flowing around a central isle thick with trees and vegetation. The northern fork of the river runs beneath a canopy formed by the isle’s overhanging trees and riverside foliage while to the south, the river is open to the sky above. Seeking consensus with the passengers, the captain of the Abacus takes the boat down the southern fork.
The boat is halfway past the small island when the water roils, and a scaled serpentine form bursts from the depths!

Pulling up at the island to check for more you find no further creatures, but the river drake kept a small stash of uncut garnets and gold nuggets on the bank of the island near where it attacked the boat in a sloppily hidden cache.
Passad and the envoys emerge from belowdecks.
"The Pathfinder Society continues to amaze me, and it seems to me increasingly prudent to enter into a business arrangement that would certainly be to our mutual benefit—particularly for those with an eye for spotting profit. Let me make my case simply: my trade network is growing and already blankets the Inner Sea like no other, and the dwarves cannot hope to compete with the prices I offer. Let us not forget that the Pathfinders have had many mutually profitable business dealings with me in the past.”

“Yes, Temel has his bejeweled fingers in many pies and can offer cheaper wares, but consider the advantages of a business relationship with my mercantile concern: our network is manycenturies old, and the quality of our goods is unrivaled. Furthermore, an arrangement with a firm with such deep roots in the Five Kings Mountains would reinforce the military alliance the Society is already negotiating.”

Daeris joined those who collected the dragon's horde, watching over the men while they are in the water. She approaches the body of the creature, offering Ketephys' blessing for the great hunter now fallen prey to another. She spoke gently in Elvish as she gazed into the dragon's eye.
"This land which kept you will long draw sustenance from your might."
Concerned that the merchants appeared to seek favor over one another, she found a moment to speak to Metella away from Passad.
"You need not be worried over the human's attempts to hedge you out. The Decimvirate play the long-game and never will they be blinded by a short-life's cheap and gaudy wares. The craftsmanship of your people is second to none. When we beat back the infernal hordes at the Worldwound, it will be with Dwarven weapons in our hands and Dwarven armor on our backs." She chuffed a rare laugh and leaned in closer, offering her hand in agreement. "Well, those that live through it will have, anyway."

Near dusk, the captain of the boat points out a pleasant country inn up a hill on the north shore of the Glass River, where a small dock offers a berth for the Abacus. Passad and the envoys indicate they’ll wait out the night in their cabins while you execute your mission at the Gray Revelation Inn.
Amauhak comes to see you off, concern on his face "I strongly advise you all to refrain from violence on Razmiri soil if it can be helped" he cautions earnestly - Metella and Passad, in rare agreement, express that they concur.
A stone path leads from the dock about 200 yards through some light tree cover to the villa. All appearances suggest a very cozy establishment, and the inn certainly serves the obvious purpose of a way station for travelers.
You press on up the path to the villa. A sign above wide wooden gates reads, “Welcome to the Gray Revelation Inn.” The gate leans open invitingly, and the smell of fresh flowers wafts on the cool breeze.

"At last - a night in a bed that doesn't move!" Adrianna says, a little more breathy than normal. She sounds more like a whining teenager than a trained Pathfinder. "Come, Amris - let's get our rooms and a hot meal and a bath. I have to wash the stink of the sea off..."
You remember her volunteered part in the trading partner scenario, and she seems to be taking a firm grip on it as she proceeds up the path to the front door of the inn.
Amris Moonstone |
"Steady child. Just as soon as we settle in you will be looking to the horizon to your next adventure. There are people to be met and profit gained." Amris chuckles to himself and adds "But indeed a hot bath and soft bed heals the weary from the journey. A nice rarebit would indeed be welcome."
Amris casually scans the area try to get a lay of the land and an idea of the exterior of this building.
We as likely will have to breakout of this place as break in to accomplish our mission.

The profusion of flowers planted around this lovely courtyard fills the air with an enchanting fragrance. An oaken door to the north is the obvious entrance to the inn, while south are the broad doors of a stable. Wooden gates allow egress to west and east, and a roofed well lies at the east end of the main court.
A slow witted looking young man wanders out from the stables, waving at you and grunting, though in a seemingly friendly manner. He seems to be indicating for you to follow him into the Inn.

The elf's eyes traveled over the ground on their walk up, looking for traces of dwarven tracks along the way. She still wore her weapons prominently and kept to Amris' heel like the loyal guard dog she portrayed, often encroaching upon his personal space as she loomed over his shoulder.

"Daeris stalks like a wolf. Best not to get trapped in those jaws should she get to biting." Amris muses to himself.
Amris tries to ham it up by almost strutting like a peacock.
"The Pathfinder's never promised me a place on a stage. I had really prefered to digging around in crypts, but the path leads us in many directions. One must find his way regardless of the landscape." Amris ponders.
GM Shifty |
Dareis looks about the courtyard. There don't seem to be too many tracks about, the place is well kept, though it looks reasonably well traveled. What you can make out is that there have obviously been travelers coming and going by horseback or on foot - noting outside of what you'd expect to see.

The simpleton grunts once more in friendly understanding before labouring through the doors and leading you into the Inn common room.
Dark oaken tables, chairs and benches fill this comfortable, L-shaped common room, and the faint odors of tobacco and ale permeate the air. Narrow windows with panes of smoked glass along the north and south walls allow some light into this welcoming space. An old matronly woman clad in peasant clothing and an apron sits at the centermost table of this room. Her voluminous white hair is piled atop her head and secured in a conservative bun. She wears a red scarf about her neck and a wry smile on her face.
"Greetings travellers!" her face lights up animatedly "Do you seek lodgings for the night?" she enquires hopefully.
There is a fair bit of activity in the kitchen with two more old ladies having some light banter and chatter whilst they prepare the evening meal - the smell of a warm beef stew and the aroma of fruits waft on the air, coaxing the taste buds.
GM Shifty |
Notwithstanding her friendliness and hospitality, Amris is certain he can see the coins turning over in her eyes at the words 'entourage' and 'hearty meal and drink', she is clearly quite pleased he is no 'cheapskate customer'.
"Well then" she continues "Welcome to the Gray Revelation Inn, I am Addas Grymble, the proprietor of this fine establishment. What brings you to Razmiran?" - she continues on, clearly fishing to see how wealthy her guests might be and the potential largesse of Amris' pockets. She nods a polite dismissal and the stablehand wanders back out the door and back to whatever he was engaged in before your arrival.
Amris Moonstone |
