PbP GameDay 2: PFS 05-07 Port Godless (5-9)

Game Master SwampTing

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 5–9.

Few are as adept at fighting demons as the Riftwardens, an organization of spellcasters dedicated to protecting the boundaries between the planes. Many are already committed to the Fifth Crusade in Mendev and are unable to assist the Pathfinders directly in the society’s upcoming expedition into the Worldwound, but if the Pathfinders assist the Riftwardens elsewhere, perhaps a small number of the mages might be free to return the favor. Unfortunately, this means entering the godless nation Rahadoum, where several Riftwardens have recently disappeared.

Content in "Port Godless" also contributes directly to the ongoing storylines of the Cheliax, Osirion, and Qadira factions.

With that, Exiel moves around the corner and down the hall as quickly as he can. He should be able to get the the space one square North-West and then one more square West from the table with the woman in the middle.

Exiel appears to have taken a double move, and has hence left Lillian some distance behind. Lillian however has a readied action on the enemy.

Exiel, you see that along the north wall stand four stone statues of ghastly figures whose expressions suggest they delight in what they see before them (i.e. in the room). You also see that there is another passageway leading South at the far end of the room you are now in. A flame-red humanoid stands in the passageway. It appears to be a strange mix of insect and reptile, with twitching, fanged mandibles and four arms which clutch a pair of bows. A heavy steel shield is slung on its back and it has a pair of shortswords at its belted hip. It looks up as you charge into view, glaring balefully at you and chitters in a language you do not know. The woman in the leather sleeveless duster also turns around and stares at you, momentarily surprised by your intrusion, but you reckon she will recover and act very soon.

You can make a knowledge religion or knowledge plains check to identify the statues, and another knowledge plains to identify the creature. Also, make 2 perception checks and as you enter the room.

Anyone else entering the room can also make a knowledge plains and knowledge religion checks to identify the statues, knowledge plains check to identify the creature and perception check to notice something.

Scrillion, Ranus, Aestrid and Isaac are up.

Yes, the guard is dead.

The woman is caught completely off-guard and is struck by the whip, which tears a ragged gash across her back. She recognises the irony of the situation and snarls in a foreign tongue.

Exiel: You recognise the 4 statues as depictions of the 4 horsemen - archdaemons of demigod-level power.

The red-skinned creature you recognise as a Xill, a creature rightly feared for its ability to fight with all 4 of its limbs at once in any combination of weapon or claw, as well as its paralyzing bite which can knock a person out for a few hours! No questions can be asked as you did not beat the DC sufficiently.

8 posts while I'm asleep, I should stop sleeping!

Hearing the woman call out in Infernal, Ranus quickly deduces that something else is in the room with her.. or nearby. Rushing up to Aestrid's side, Ranus fingers a pair of the crystals he'd kept aside at the bathhouse, waiting for two targets to present themselves.

Readying an action to cast Ice Spears when I have two enemy targets in sight. I'll pre-roll it's damage and CMB check here, and a knowledge check when the Xill comes into view.

Ice Spears, normal, cold, CMB vs woman: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 2) = 16
Ice Spears, CMB Woman: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
Ice Spears, normal, cold, CMB vs Xill: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 1) = 13
Ice Spears, CMB Xill: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15

Thanks Lillian. I've done the same. It's a good idea. I've updated your buffs too.

I would also advise seperating the damage since 2d6 is physical and 2d6 is cold damage.. They could have cold resistances or vulnerabilites that could either decrease or increase your damage..

Also im looking at your cmb and i figure it as +13.. +7 CL on Ice Spears, +6 Int.. I miss the other +1 somewhere?

Also that spell has a close range so your max casting distance atm is 35'.. Your not near close enough to hit the lady and you have no LOS to the Xill..

Also reading the spell im not sure you have 2 spears yet.. It doesnt read 1 spear +1 for every 4 levels you have, it just reads 1 spear for every 4 levels you have.. Which means a 3rd level caster capable of casting it gets 0 spears? That doesnt make any sense either..

Not busting your balls here just letting you know

Grand Lodge

Border of War map Reign of Winter map

He's a 5th level caster that's able to cast that one spell at caster level 8 due to Yuelral's blessing and spell specialisation. But your range is limited to 45 ft, so your readied action will only trigger if any of the enemies come within range, and you will only get them both if they both happen to be in range at the same time.

Also, you cannot see the Xill yet, and when you do, you do not discover anything beyond what Exiel knew.

If you want, you can change your readied action to something else.

Hm, my bad. Was thinking Ice Spears was medium range for some reason. In that case I'll double move for this turn between the two northern prisoners. That should get me within range for the next round, and outside of any charge lane even if there weren't obstacles.

Wow, this game moves fast. Twenty-two posts since I last looked in. Allright, let me see if I can catch up here.

Before the guard has even slumped to the table, Scrillion, spins and trots out of the room, headed to the next target. He moves through the hall quickly, stopping just inside the room. Am I able to move my character on the map, and how? In the meantime, can Scrillion be moved to the square directly southeast of the entrance to the room (enter room and move 5' south).

The archer sees the monstrosity to the south and decides to try to finish the woman first, and then that the chitinous beast will be his next target. He looks about quickly, and then the old campaigner draws a handful of arrows and lets fly at the creature.

Round One: Double move to spot indicated above. Round Two: Full attack on Xill (three arrows, with rapid shot).

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

Woman is target unless she drops, then switch to xill. Add one point to both attack roll and damage for PBS if the woman is the target.
First arrow: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
Damage if he hits: 1d8 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 7 + (3) = 18 (the last d6 is electricity damage)

Second arrow: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Damage if he hits: 1d8 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 7 + (5) = 16 (the last d6 is electricity damage)

Third arrow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Damage if he hits: 1d8 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 7 + (4) = 14 (the last d6 is electricity damage)

My text above is written confusingly; I had started writing as if I was hitting the Xill with three shots, and switched midway through writing to hitting the woman first and only switching to the Xill if she went down. I was writing from work, and did a crap job of editing the post. It should read that she is the initial target, not the Xill. Sorry for the lack of clarity.

Grand Lodge

Border of War map Reign of Winter map

Scrillion, you notice as you enter the room that there are faint summoning circles on the floor, and that there is an unlit black candle on the table where the woman is.

Your first two arrows fly true and strike the woman, who curses at you vehemently, but she still stands. The red-skinned creature advances on you with frightening speed, pulling out its swords and shield as it moves, and takes a bite at you with its fangs.

bite: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
damage: 1d3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

You take 6 damage and need to make a fort save. You do NOT want to fail this, so make sure you roll well!

Dang..and you used a reroll earlier, didn't you? :(

Cursing as some big four-armed creature charges at them, Ranus vaguely recognizes it as a Xill.. bu no more than that as he rapidly casts his spell. Spears of conjured ice thrust up from the ground under both the woman and the Xill, slicing flesh and throwing them off balance.

Ice Spears on the woman, cold, piercing, trip: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 42d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 61d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
Ice Spears on the Xill, cold, piercing, trip: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 122d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 41d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29
