Cëanel Firdhanor |
Cëanel observes the arrow with some interest. "Elves know bows. This fellow has strength on his side, it appears. I wonder if he is the golem maker, or just some strongman who has moved in."
He pulls out another scroll. "I have naught but cantrips left, but this spell will leave the fellow weak." He flashes an uncharacteristically cheery smile.
"If Koh has a spell of Guidance, we can all be that more sure shotted."
Kay frowns. "However, I can't attack him save for right up close. Desh, it may be better to just rush him."
GM Engleaktig |
At least half the party is ready to fight. Initiatives it is, then!
Cëanel: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Desh: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Flyndal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Kohinoor: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Grulk: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Grulk already got his surprise round. So we're just in straight initiative. Given the rolls, it's easier just to say the party is up! You can delay for each other, so whatever order you post is fine by me.
The door at the top of the stairs is very obviously locked.
Desh Greyskin |
"We don't know Klarkosh, Grulk!" Desh roars as he rushes up the stairs and throws his weight against the door, trying to slam it open by sheer force. "And if you don't want me to rip your throat out, you'll open the door and drop your weapons!"
Move action and a strength check.
Strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Desh looks back down the stairs at his teammates, "We need this open now ... or I need some cover to work on the lock."
Flyndal Danwrick |
Sure. If I rage, I'll likely have to keep raging, or lose two rounds to fatigue. I guess we'll see what's on the other side, first.
Flyndal sheathes his blade, eyeing the doorway. "Outta the way, big guy. Let me at it."
STR, Rage: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Rage: 3/6
Kohinoor an-Gul |
Kohinoor mumbles a prayer to the Dawn under her breath and touches Desh on the shoulder, filling him with divine guidance.
Casting Guidance on Desh. Doesn't look like there's a ton of room in there at the moment.
Desh Greyskin |
I was actually hoping to Acro into flanking to give Flyn and Desh a flanking bonus (and hopefully sneak attack). You just beat me to the punch. Can I retcon that?If so...
Desh darts into the room and—noting the cramped quarters—drops his longspear as he draws his morningstar. He dives around Grulk, rolling to his feet in a flank.
i've updated the map. We can switch it back if you're not fine with these actions for that last round.
Acro vs CMD: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Desh Greyskin |
Desh shadows the bugbear’s movements, dodging around behind it to maintain his flank with Flyndal. Then, Desh feels the warm, guiding hand of Sarenrae as he attempts to brain Grulk.
Tumble to flank, then use Guidance to sneak attack!
Acro vs CMD: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
morningstar: 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 1 + 2 = 17
damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 4 + (2) = 9
GM Engleaktig |
Uh oh! This time, Desh isn't quite acrobatic enough.
AoO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18, Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Desh takes 8 HP of damage before he swings! There's a "clank" sound, as his weapon bounces harmlessly off of the bugbear's armor. (+2 armor, +3 Dex, +3 natural)
Flyn, Kay, and Kohi are up!
GM Engleaktig |
Thanks to Kohinoor, both Desh and Flyn heal up 4 HP. Kay fires acid, but misses. Flyn attacks again: Rage, but NO power attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18, Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Grulk looks like he's almost down! The bugbear withdraws and jumps through a secret door in the tower. But, you're three stories up, surely he'll fall to his death, right? Right?
The party rushes to the now-revealed secret door to see Grulk falling gently to the ground. Kay immediately recognizes this as feather fall. Grulk is about to get away.
The party is up!
Desh Greyskin |
given the previous character locations, Grulk would have had to move through a second square threatened by Desh, I believe .. meaning an AoO for Desh. If I'm mistaken, ignore this, I guess.
AoO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5; sigh. Or ignore it regardless.
Desh fails to brain the bugbear a second time as it flees. With a howl of frustration, he rushes to the hidden door, draws out a javelin, and hurls it down at the cowardly goblinoid.
javelin: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
GM Engleaktig |
LOLOL! With an attack borne of frustration and desperation, Desh hurls his spear. It strikes true! Grulk is down! With both Grulk and Skizzertz (the goblin with Clanky) dead, any surviving goblins quickly abandon the ruin. (You can see them flee.) Combat over! Module over!

Thank you guys for playing. :-)
The more you adventure in and around the Emerald Spire, the more opportunity you have to acquire and develop your own plot of land. Every other Chronicle sheet for The Emerald Spire Superdungeon grants you the opportunity to purchase a parcel of land, represented by one of the hexes below. Each new parcel you purchase must be adjacent to a parcel you already own. It costs 2 Prestige Points. Along with your day job, please indicate if you wish to purchase a parcel of land.
Desh Greyskin |
Desh watches carefully as the bugbear floats unnaturally to the ground below. It's only after a minute of watching the unmoving body that he looks at his fellow pathdinfers. He gives a feral grin, "Nice."
He punches Flyndal amicably on the shoulder, nods thanks to Kohinoor, and grins over at the elf. "Now, let's see what we can sniff out."
Thanks, Engleaktig! Glad we survived. :)
