Raavan
Kyra, the creature constricts its tentacles around you, digging in with its barbs. Take 8 HP. Bad time to max the damage roll....
Everyone can act.
Raavan Shiv |
Growling, Raavan steps forward and swings his Morningstar and snaps his tusks at the strange monster.

Round 2 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Monster-acted
Keno-delayed
Chochok
Kyra
Valt
Arnthoth/Wolf
Raavan-acted
Keno, you're out of reach of Kyra at the moment.
Raavan, you miss with the morningstar but hit with the bite. It's still hanging on, though.
Kenotrixjemel Brightbramble |
Alright then, I'll try something else!
Hold still! Keno retrieves his crossbow and fires at the enemy! Assuming penalties for being in combat and for cover,
XBow: 1d20 + 4 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 4 - 4 = 15 for Bolt: 1d6 ⇒ 4
DM Carbide |
Concealment chance due to darkness effect, high=hit: 1d100 ⇒ 82
The gnome leans around the central part of the staircase, and by great good luck puts a crossbow bolt into the creature, killing it.
Out of combat!
Kyra Roessler |
Kyra takes a knee as she offers a quick prayer, clasping her holy symbol in her hand.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
"Oh Sarenrae, the Dawnflower! We thank thee at this time for bringing us victory against this foul creature. Please continue to watch over us this day."
As she rises she seeks out Keno, "Thank you for your prodigious use of your crossbow. And you Raavan - quite incisive work with those incisors."
She brushes herself off. "Well now, I feel much better. Which way shall we go?"
Raavan Shiv |
"It is dead." Raavan says in the darkness. He then drags the creature into the light below. Plucking the bolt from it, he looks to Keno. "Excellent shot. I was unaware you could see in darkness."
DM Carbide |
The staircase ends in a chamber that has obviously not seen use in some time. Cobwebs fill the corners, and dust covers the ground thickly puffing up at every step and making it occasionally hard for Wolfie and Keno to breathe without choking and sneezing. The walls are decorated with ancient carvings in a language that none of you recognize. There are three sets of stone double doors in the three facing walls. Each set of doors is sealed with a heavy disk of bronze emblazoned with Pharasma's spiral.
Arnthoth earlier noticed a more recent scrawl on the wall, in archaic but understandable Common: My heart beats on the wrong side of my chest, or is it right? Is left right, or is it wrong? I don't know what it means, or why....
Kenotrixjemel Brightbramble |
Blast it, longshanks! Stop shufflings you feet! You're...ahh, ahhh-chooo! You're stirring up all the dust! **snort**
Keno will look at each of the doors, looking to see if the seals are remarkable in any way.
Regarding the scribble on the wall Keno merely says, I can't believe that permit graffiti in such a hallowed place. I'll mention that when we return.
Raavan Shiv |
Bardic Knowledge History: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Ravaan considers the words and the other writings.
"These words about the heart and its beating." He touches his chest and thinks a moment. "Perhaps it is telling us to go right?"
Valt |
"As go-hoo-hood a guess as any, but what if whoever wrote that's got a messed-up system...?" Valt howls out some dialogue and follows, though he looks back for a moment to the asthmatic gnome, "If you don't want to live in the dust of the pack, you-hoo-hoo have to lead from the front!"
Kenotrixjemel Brightbramble |
Perhaps I could ride you like a pony and solve both those problems! Keno sneezes again and continues to examine the doorways. [b]Well, we can go right if you wish, I can't seem to tell a difference.
Know Religion help with anything here?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
DM Carbide |
Knowledge (Religion) is no help, unfortunately.
Kyra Roessler |
Kyra covers her mouth to keep the dust out. She thinks over the scrawling, but is unsure of its meaning. "I agree with you Raaavan, I say we try the right way, and hope that it is not wrong. Otherwise, left is right - then where are we?"
The cleric steps forward to the doors on the right-hand side of the chamber and opens them.
DM Carbide |
The door is sealed tightly, and does not budge.
Raavan Shiv |
"Let us not accept defeat so easily, Kyra." Raavan grumbles around his tusks. "Do we have any locksmiths among us? What of the chime of opening? Should we use it here?"
Valt |
"Hold on..." Valt approaches the door and gives it a pat-down, with each touch cracking the stone (though they mend as quickly as they came when he removes his hand.) He fishes for pieces that might break permanently and let the door open.
DD T10: 10 + 6 = 16
DM Carbide |
Valt, you think you can bypass the locking method on the door with some time and luck, but it's not easy enough to do it that way.
DM Carbide |
By dint of good timing, Valt manages to disrupt the locking mechanism on the door long enough to open it.
Assuming that you're still starting with the RH door....
The room to the east is likewise dusty, and the corners are filled with cobwebs. Across from the party is a statue, close to eight feet tall and four feet wide, of a feather emblazoned with a large open eye, rather like a stylized peacock tailfeather. Although the statue is apparently carved of stone, it still shines in the light of your torch with a golden-green iridescence. Past it on the opposite wall is what appears from your position to be another set of double doors.
There appears to be carving on the floor at the far end of the room.
ETA: The map has been updated.
Raavan Shiv |
Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Raavan does not recognize the iconography. Looking for other information he casts detect magic and scans the chamber.
Spellcraft (if needed): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Perception (if needed): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
DM Carbide |
There's nothing detectable as magic in the room, Raavan.
Kenotrixjemel Brightbramble |
Religion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Hmmm, not familiar with any of this so far. Disappointing. Peering into the hall he then asks, See that door behind the statue? Maybe we should try it.
DM Carbide |
On closer examination, the door opposite doesn't really seem to be a door at all. What looked like a gap where the two doors met is actually a carved groove, and where the knob would be is a strangely shaped depression in the stone.
ETA: The carving on the floor uses the same symbols as that from the chamber behind you.
DM Carbide |
It appears to be quite solid, with nothing else of interest about it.
Kenotrixjemel Brightbramble |
Keno then turns his attention to the statue itself, in particular the glow it seems to have. Wish I recognized some of this, the statue, the carvings... oh, it hurts my heart not knowing more.
DM Carbide |
Make another Perception check, Keno.
DM Carbide |
Yep, definitely a statue of a feather.
Kyra Roessler |
Kyra takes a close look at the features of the room.
Knowledge (Religion): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
"Hmm, I feel that this has some importance, but if it doesn't concern Sarenrae, then it's hardly worth knowing about, right?" Kyra folds her arms as if satisfied with her lack of understanding.
She takes a closer look at the carving on the floor in the chamber. Bending down on one knee, she places a hand in the carving, tracing the outlines and trying to understand what the image may be.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
DM Carbide |
Kyra, it's a lengthy piece of writing in the same language as the carvings outside.
Raavan, your care and thoroughness pay off as you find a concealed compartment in the back of the feather statue. Inside it is a single green feather.
Kyra Roessler |
Kyra uncrosses her arms and leans over Keno. "My dear sir, I only mean that in the grand scheme of our existence, the knowledge one can have of the Dawnflower's ever loving grace is the only essential knowledge. I care not about other gods." She takes hold of her holy symbol and closes her eyes reverently.
DM Carbide |
Raavan, it's definitely magical, with a strong conjuration aura, but you're not sure of its exact function.
DM Carbide |
Chochok is likewise baffled by the intricacies of the enchantment. It's a DC 27 check to identify, which seems kind of over the top considering the low power of the item.
Valt |
It's the same situation as the Pearl of Power; Even the first level one is CL 17.
Valt takes a look at the feather and takes advantage of the theological debate by testing its ability to tickle gnomes (as suggested.)
