Just as a reminder, this applies to the entire area; (Ice covers the floor. Characters must spend 2 squares of movement to enter a square covered by ice, and the DC for Acrobatics checks on surfaces covered by ice increases by 5.)

You make your way down the next corridor and end your movement in front of 3 doors

(Just let me know which one you want to try to open first, N, E or S and we'll take it from there)

The circular pit goes on for a looooooong time (and is outside the scope of this scenario)

Since I'm not a big fan of multiple empty rooms with doors..as it tends to slow the game down a _lot_ when a party encounters a door I'm skipping the empty rooms if that's alright with everyone

After going through a series of unlocked and empty rooms you find yourselves in;

Desks sit empty, a few scraps of meaningless paper littering the drawers. A weapon rack in the southeastern corner of the room contained the town’s arsenal during their heyday.
The door to the iron cage in the northeastern corner of the room is locked with an average lock (Disable Device DC 25).
Only the tattered remains of an old cot and manacles remain in the room.

When you go through the last door you enter a small corridor which leads to the corridor defenders of this fort used to stand behind some arrow slits, but it's also empty.

The door to the south leads to a - now - very small room as what ever dissected the ruins also left this room open to one side.

Which leaves the door to the east.

Just pausing a bit to see if someone wants to do something before opening the next door

"Hold a moment, Pathfinders!"

How much time are you giving us to prep? I would like to do two rounds worth of things right before we open the door, please. :-)

---------- ROUND 1 ----------

- Free Action: "Haltani, maybe it would be best if you and I took a step back. This area is crowded, and we don't want to box in our allies if they need to make a hasty retreat!"

- Non Action: The alchemist moves 5'.

- Standard Action: Then the tiefling drinks his targeted bomb admixture extract.

From Ultimate Combat: "When you throw bombs, they can only hit a direct target; they do not splash. However, the bomb deals its base damage plus double your Intelligence modifier instead of just its base damage plus your Intelligence modifier." -- This way, I won't hurt allies with my bombs. Unless I miss completely and hit you. In which case that's 1d6+10.

---------- ROUND 2 ----------

- Move Action: Take out a bomb.

- Standard Action: Ready action: Throw bomb at enemy if something awful appears.

ROFL! :-D

Scarab Sages

@Misforstatt You can take all the time you want to prepare in this case..until someone in the party interrupts you. If there was a time limit I would have let you know you have X amount of time to do things in

@Misforstatt; all though I completely understand what you are trying to do and it makes total sense and I'm fine with winging it, but....as been pointed out to me before, you can't ready (to toss a bomb at an appearing enemy) outside of initiative since it doesn't exists in game as an action until initiative starts...which won't start until there's an enemy - just pointing it out before people start doing it all the time and a different GM won't let them

After finding a locked door you take some time to bash through it, sending a nice ringing sound of metal on metal through the entire complex..a few chips of ice start to fall down from the walls and snow flakes fall down from the ceiling to land on your hair.

Examining the inside of the iron cage..you find out that besides the tattered remains of an old cot and manacles which you could see through the bars it's completely empty.

Following Misforstatt suggestion Haltani takes a few steps back

I'm assuming that you guys will open the door to the east now, so working on that assumption

Scarab Sages

As you open the door you see a room which contains mostly intact furniture. The large table in the center of the room has an masterwork dwarven battle axe lying on top of it. There's a fire place to the north and in front of the table, close to the door is the frozen corpse of a dwarf, perfectly preserved in a block of ice.

Tomas, pinching the bridge of his nose, his eyes screwed shut - as if suffering some kind of painful injury to his brain - took a quick sharp breath and let it out slowly in exasperation.

"Does anyone have any actual ideas about what we're going to do next? What's our plan: everyone run in a do whatever they want'? I think we can all see there's a good chance; when we open one of these doors, the drek will really hit the fan-bearers'."

Then, regretting his testy outburst, he continued.

"You might have something, Misforstatt. Whatever froze the dwarf - apart from the frozen water around him - might still be about and do it to us. Investigating that may give us useful information on how to proceed. After, that, though, there's still what lies beyond the door."

"I have my handaxe, scimitar, crossbow - 20 bolts, shield, and I can throw improvised weapons. Oh, and I've still my Alchemist's Fire - though Misforstatt's drunken admixture will be safer for all. I don't want to be caught with my pants down, so I'll be going in with shield up and scimitar drawn - unless others have any suggestions? I'm happy to take point, though Onix might be better there - him being less likely to die before me.

Onix doesn't spot anything new..just a room with mostly intact furniture, a dead dwarf in a block of ice next to a table with an axe on top of it..and a fire place (and just in case anyone didn't look at the map - 2 more doors)

Misforstått continues to take notes, pleased that not-Haltani is doing the same. :-) He will examine the frozen dwarven body and the beard clasp. You're well traveled, perhaps you have a magical means of understanding them?"

The big black circle thing is where the hole is in the ruins, which is now covered with some ice, exploring it is beyond the scope of of this scenario as the part to the SW are collapsed and closed off.I also assumed that you'd investigated the rooms that are on the south part of the map

->"With some daring acrobatics you also manage to make it past the gap in the walls sliced open by the missing cylinder and discover that there are some more dwarven living rooms - which are inaccessible any other way - but which also contain nothing of value."

To repeat the description of the black outlined circle:
Thousands of icicles cover the ceiling of this cylindrical chamber. The outside edge forms a perfect circular curve, cutting into stone without mark of chisel or tool, impossibly smooth. Only places where ice flows over the stone, or where the structures have collapsed, mar the perfect precision of the cylinder. The remains of workshops and living spaces, still furnished, peak through holes in the cylindrical void. At the southern and western edges of the cavern, large portions of the stone and ice have collapsed, cutting into the immense void with piles of rubble.

At Misforstatt questions "Haltani" takes a closer look at the beard claps

Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

"It looks like it's an gladdringgoch, a traditional beard or hair clasp that a clan’s leader wears as a mark of status."

Scarab Sages

If anyone has any knowledge skills they want to use on the beard clasp, feel free to use those..but for now, moving on

As you finish your exploration of the ruins and start to head back you notice a group of individuals standing between you and the way out.

There are a human guard, with an ice bear standing next to him, a creature completely made from ice - the size of a halfling and behind them is a pale skinned, blue eyed, blond haired woman wearing a courtiers outfit studded with jewelry which looks entirely inadequate for protection someone from the cold, even though it doesn't seem to bother her in the least.

As she sees you the woman speaks up tapping her hand with a slender wand held in her other hand;
"I demand to know who are you are what you are doing! Hand over the woman you have with you into my custody and lay down your weapons and surrender or face the consequences."

At this point "Haltani" pushes her way past you to stand in front of your group and between you and the others

"Leave them alone Kiryena. They are not holding me against my will. These are good people."

The ice bear growls in your general direction while the man standing next to it levels a crossbow your way, while he looks over his shoulder to take instructions from the woman.

If anyone has any knowledge skills they want to use on the beard clasp, feel free to use those..but for now, moving on

We can get a scroll of Comprehend Languages (back in town or somewhere else) to understand the rune.

"Can't we all just get along? Indeed, Haltani has been helping us with our archeological expedition. See? Here are her notes! And mine." Assuming they don't immediately attack, the tiefling will produce the notes and artifact.

"This is a gladdringgoch. It's a traditional beard or hair clasp worn by dwarven leaders. Did you know that this site was once home to a clan of dwarves? Fascinating, isn't it?" The alchemist smiles sincerely and wags his tail.

Female Half Elf (mysterious Stranger) 1 | hp 13/13 | AC 14 | Touch 11 | FF 13 | Fort +4 | Ref +5 | Will -1; +2 vs Ench | CMD 14 | Init +5 | Perc +1

Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

She followed the group, unable to offer them any advice on the dwarf or the language, those things weren't her forte so to speak. When the party made their way and were then stopped by the much entertained party with the soon-to-be-turned-into-a-rug-bear She looked up to the woman who was commanding them to hand over their companion. Shaking her head once more her voice a bare whisper, and a Misforstått who would be hating her once more...

"She is a guest of ours, she has accepted our hospitality and has been a great guide to us... You are here threatening us and trying to force our hand, I am sure you are used to do that in what ever dunghole you come from, but where I come from you treat people with proper respect, and when such respect isn't given, then none will be returned and then this discussion can turn into a damn bloody and violent mess, I am all up for that... But are you willing to suffer the consequences? Or shall we talk about this in a civilized way?"

Yeah, the Half-Elf gunslinger was pissed off and ready to take the violent path, because... free bear rug!

As Misforstatt explains what is going on the woman raises a skeptical eyebrown, but seems willing to listen what he is saying

But as Caswallon starts posturing and seemingly get's aggressive "Haltani" turns around and raises her finger in front of Caswallon's nose

"You better behave! I don't like this kind of behavior from my cousin and I certainly don't like it any better when you do it! I expected better from you"

She bristled for the briefest of moments when Haltani adressed her and then nodded, stepping back but ready to act.
