Fetch your Hellknight! I am of far more import than you fool! And I intend to take this up with the magistrates as you are obviously trying to sabotage my performance! This is unfair business and I will enjoy watching you squirm in court. Go back to your hovel you call a home and leave the adults to take care of things!
The shouting continues and eventually horses are brought.

Checking for any juicy or embarrassing rumors on this fellow that I might use to cow him.
Hippa |
Hippa is silent as the accusation flies towards her and the groom. She resumes with a smile the conversation regarding horses and masterpieces. She mentions she'll never be able to enjoy "culture" due to finances similar to the groom. Taking pleasures in life like caring for animals big and small. Not derogatory to the blond tallfolk, everyone has ego as evidenced by her own puffed up aristocrat. Animals are easier to understand. "Any clue what part the horses are meant for in this masterpiece?" This last said loud enough to him to hear but not directed at him.
MiniGM |
So everyone has a few days piece though audibis warned to keep his head down as the Hellknights have his name from the fight and they are looking for him
Janivan and Arael gather everyone a few nights later
. We think we should hit these bastards of Erebus. We do that and our fame will grow but we need to scout them for a week or two. While we do you can either lie low or perhaps try to clean up the city a bit. Perhaps take out some of the lesser bandit groups?
Brannock Galdarg |
"I think it would be wise to quietly take out some of these other groups and clear the way. Of course we could also take out some of these groups as a ruse to use against the Bastards of Erebus. We could use the action as a means to prove ourselves to the Bastards, earn their trust. It would be much easier to take them out from within. Who knows, we might be able to turn some of them to our cause."
Tramtris Arvanxi |
diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 first day
diplomacy2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 second day
"I actually tend to agree with Brannock I dont know a whole lot about... those parts of town, but it will increase our name on the streets and that cant be a bad thing."
Regardless of the groups decision, Tramtris will want to purchase some cloth, preferably something dark and brooding, and will try to fashion some form of mask(enlisting the aide or one of the groups womenfolk preferably, His skill with a needle, is lacking im sure. Ala the 'dread pirate roberts' in the Princess Bride
MiniGM |
There are many groups of highwaymen outside the city, I suspect the mayor will privately smile on our work if we remove some of them...there is also the other option of slaying one or more of the shadow beasts that could also improve our reputation. Though I suppose we could do both.
Auði Jaw-Jacker |
Knowledge (local) on Thesing Umbero Ulvaud 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Nothing beyond what the others got there.
Auði will certainly lie low over the coming days once he hears that Hippa shouted his name out during the fight. "The highwaymen might be a good test for us. I think we need to learn to work together a little better considering two of us were nearly killed in the last fight. Although the shadow beasts or one of the gangs within the city might make a bigger difference to Westcrown, they are likely to be more difficult."
MiniGM |
so a group outside the city? sounds good. How do you want to hit them...keep in mind you do have a carriage at your disposal, it could be repainted or something like that
also as a quick note, these side missions are purely fame grabs...if you would rather skip these and move on with the main plot let me know
Tramtris Arvanxi |
He shot her a wink and took her hand quickly kissing the top of it before she could pull it away.
"I will be back again, do you have a favorite scent?
He left her with a smile on his face.
"I think we spread out too much and well, no offense It would seem the half-orc and I have at least some training in combat. He or I should have been back with you and Hippa. AS for the shadow beasts, The only thing I know of them is rumors and hearsay, I would feel a lot safer if we had better information on what they actually were. So perhaps the bandits outside the walls would be best, that and it would give us time away from being perhaps in the Hellknights eyes. The young noble paused and almost as an afterthought he added. "We should come up with aliases, fake names to call one another outside of safe houses. I for one would hate to have a squad of hellknights show up to my parents house and arrest them because of me.
Brannock Galdarg |
"I guess I will go by "Halfer". I suggest each smaller group have some sort of healing available to it. Do your talents lie in the healing arts Audi?"
Hippa |
"Delicious. Calling us by common terms is effective. Halfer, Sabi... How about "Ma" for me. I am old enough."
And a bemused chuckle, [b]"I've wrapped up in myself these last few years. This small invite has once again awakened me to enjoy and make a difference. I'll start paying more attention to my customers at the shop and my surroundings. We all have very disparate backgrounds, one of us probably has crossed paths with someone who has ill intentions.
[downtime]
Hippa takes a bit of her savings to buy properly sized, comfortable throwaway clothes, stuff that does nothing for her sense of style, for excursions and adventures. She had to change her style, at least for this.
Tramtris Arvanxi |
Do we have any idea where these bandits strike? Should we perhaps pose as merchants or something traveling to incite them to appear?"
He smiled just slightly glancing at Brannock.
"Halfer? I suppose I could remember that.
He said dryly with something of a smile.
Hippa |
"Give me a moment to go over the carriage to make sure there are no hidden marks. Would hate to have a hellknight symbol glow under the right conditions. Also doesn't a new carriage with a fresh coat of paint attract attention? So soon after one disappeared, it might attract attention."
Hippa casts detect magic on the carriage, primarily looking for arcane marks, but also for craftsman marks.
MiniGM |
Hippa takes 20 and goes over it carefully. There is the symbol of the order of the rack on the outside but that is all and there is nothig magical about it. Though the huge crossbow on top is a bit irregular for a merchant caravan.
Also the scuttlebutt around town is that the Hellknights want revenge but the mayor is not going to do anything because it is out of his jurisdiction...nort that this means he is on your aide
Auði Jaw-Jacker |
While everyone is considering the plan for the carriage and drawing out the highwaymen, Auði visits some of his old friends in the Westcrown theaters and purchases makeup, costumes, paint, and some cheap plywood.
Purchase disguise kit, deducted from remaining gold.
Brannock Galdarg |
[b] "Halfer? I suppose I could remember that.
He said dryly with something of a smile.
Brannock gives Tramtris a big grin.
"Why do you think I chose it, Noble?"Tramtris Arvanxi |
Tramtris laughed good naturedly.
"you chose it so my simple mind could remember it? In that case I thank you. Its hard to keep things straight with all the garbage information one's required to have to be proper. When we strike at these bandits shall it be us newcomers? or are you veterans getting involved as well?"
He asked wondering if it was the sewer escape bunch in action again. They certainly would have to discuss things again, perhaps this time as the ones in the wagon it would be easier to keep Hippa and Audi up. Really he was still a little upset with himself, he had at least had some formal training in combat and obviously Brannock was of a rougher sort. They would have to make sure they were the front line this time for sure.
Tramtris Arvanxi |
Our mage support, ie hippa and audi in the carriage, sevros perhsps driving brannock and I playing merchant guards. Do we have access to horse besides the cairrage horses or would that be a purchasable item ? This is of course barring others approval mind you. If indeed the other npcs are coming with, we might instead load them up in the carriage with us on the outer shell, with perhaps hippa and audi driving instead. I assume we are taking off the ballistae to not be too obvious, though someone or two someone's could ride atop it for ranged support.
Hippa |
encouragement/critique noted.
"So... If I understand correctly, we are the bait that bites. Intentionally putting ourselves into danger. No stealth except by disguise. OK. I'll give this tactic a try. I'll ask for more aggressive boons from the gods. They may enjoy the show and hopefully I wont die under these circumstances.
She'll tend to the horse and help with the painting of carriage. Also, she'll splurge on show expensive looking clothes for a proper noble or well off gnome. Giggle snort With no money...
Hippa |
Fresh and pretty painted carriage, beautiful female gnome with a driver, guard and a chaperone. Do we keep it on the down low and remove those brigands that lie in wait or up the ante and seed some rumors?
Auði Jaw-Jacker |
"Sounds like a plan. Remove the ballista. Just the four of us. Plant a rumor about a rich gnome headed out of town. I'll drive. Hippa in the carriage. Tramtris and Brannock as guards. Extra alert as we reach that bridge. I'll hit the biggest group with a sleep spell."
MiniGM |
looks like hippo inside, Audi and brannock riding and Tram walking to the side? Confirm for me and we can advance to the attack! Also let me know what preparations you make
[rolling] good for you, your cohorts managed to identify this as the most likely place to be attacked so you can cast any spells you like and assume that a d6 of res goes by before the attack happens
Tramtris Arvanxi |
Walking is fine with me, Tram casts 'bored noble playing a guard.' it uh gives him a +100 to all checks involving being himself? I tease I tease he doesn't cast that, he isn't a caster... yet. Maybe one day.
Tramtris Arvanxi |
He glanced back torwards Brannock and Audi since they were he felt more in harms way. He waited on them to make a move at which point he would Charge forward to the Bandit closest to him,(#2) bringing his Halberd in a fierce slashing arc from above the Bandits shoulders and down torwards the bandits hips.
attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 - 2 = 13
damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
If for whatever reason they drop their weapons (brannock and Audi) then tramtris will as well... but as soon as one of them gets within 10 feet. He will use his trait magical talent and cast Daze on his nearest opponent (will save dc 14) then pick up his weapon.
Hippa |
Grimly looking out the window, she is not wanting to provide an easier target, upon hearing the words of the bandit, For Hippa's first action, she takes a moment to look out the window to spot where all the voices are coming from. Taking 10+5 for 15 Seeing the crossbows, Hippa casts Obscuring Mist. You all hear a whispered entreaty to Gozreh of support and see mist coalescing around the carriage, engulfing everything in a 30' radius, effectively hiding the bridge and its occupants.
Sorry for the retcon. Better spell selection.
Hippa |
Can't take 10 in combat, but I don't think they are hiding either. Shaken -2 to cast? 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 - 2 = 11 +2 for racial bonus against fear
Brannock Galdarg |
As soon as one comes within range of Brannock (6 spaces) he will take a move action and engage.
