Job's great. They messed up on my wages but looks like that is just about sorted and I will get to eat! (The UK welfare system appears to assume that everyone is paid daily cash-in-hand, everything cuts out the moment you start a job no matter what the payment schedule happens to be.)

Ashe, it's fine if you read up on Varisian culture in the AP if you want to. Try and avoid the actual adventure, there is a bit of foreshadowing.

We'd calculated on what ought to have been the payroll run Thursday, but it turned out they'd put me on the wrong contract. Just about sorted now, and we have sufficient to tide us over. Just as well for the break, at least I don't have to put fuel in my car to go there...

You have been sent by Field Marshal Kroft to look for them. The Field Marshal wants them to attend the execution, she knows that Trinia Sabor is not in the Queen's custody and that no attempts have been made to find out where she is... Kroft expects that the Bishop knows but is quite deliberately not asking!

You have know Kroft for several years and done assorted odd jobs for the Guard, but this time you've been hired with the role of liaison between the Guard and this merry band of adventurers, 'troubleshooters' Kroft calls them. The idea is that they are to be kept somewhat at arms' length, handy for those jobs where a bit of deniability is useful! And Kroft reckons that with the new Queen in charge, there will be more such tasks...

Something to not about a scroll of blur... it makes one immune to sneak Attack dice... you cant use precision based damage on a target with any amount of concealment. Blur grants a 2o% miss chance... so it is useful out of combat ...so to speak.

Okay, a peeve, Ashe. And perhaps you might have sensed my character's irritation at this before. But now it's irritating me a little bit.

Please don't type the deities' names in all caps. I don't mind if you bold and italicize or even enlargen with the bigger tag. But all caps is yelling. And people don't normally go around talking in normal tones of voices and yelling the names of deities in the middle of conversation. Well, perhaps Jehovah's Witnesses do, but that's one of the reasons that not a lot of people like them. No offense to anyone here who is a Jehovah's Witness.

Una, are you a little pissed off? You keep referring to your original companions? You seem a little disgruntled.

Nah... well, the character is. The player isn't... =) :P Una gets disgruntled at a lot of things though, that's just her way.

You should have seen her try to warm up to the other characters at the beginning of the game. She doesn't trust very well (widow trait), and is used to the hard life of a mercenary female fighter in a business controlled by men. So she'll eventually warm up to you. Just might take a while.

That being said, the player does get passionate about the character sometimes, and doesn't feel at all ashamed to show it. Feel free to ask Ashe about the trust issues. =P And some of the marvelous arguments we've had. :)

She has a few things that just drive her absolutely batty, and Ashe so far seems to be checking off the list. So, when she refers to her "original companions", those are the ones she's been the longest with, are more used to her temperament and know how to get along with her. As far as other trust issues, she still doesn't quite trust Ashe, usually disagrees with him on the proper way to do things. She trusts Varrel since he seems to understand the mercenary code of ethics a little better, even though she does not know him very well. As for the little one, well, she doesn't know him at all, and isn't inclined to getting to know him. (You're very welcome to see that as a character flaw, if you like.) But she'll warm up if you're not superlawful or obnoxiously good. =)

As an aside, if you want to get on Una's good side, (and this goes for just about anyone), here's a few pointers.

1) Keep a low profile. As part of her career, Una hates drawing attention to herself, unless necessary to intimidate people to get out of her way.
2) Tactics before ethics. She's not completely averse to the idea of doing good, but her life as a mercenary has trained her mind more specifically for combat, and for any number of bad things that seem to happen frequently in Korvosa. For Una, the city uprising isn't any worse than her normal days in Korvosa, just another bad angle that has to be operated around.
3) Realism before optimism. Optimism and Pessimism are completely unnecessary, tactically speaking. They just get in the way of seeing the truth of the matter.
4) Religion should be limited to doing those things it does best, and not to sticking its nose in places where it doesn't belong. The same goes for governments and law enforcement, however, Una is used to their presence in places where they don't belong and she regards that with less hostility than religions doing so.
5) Diamonds are a girl's best friend. Material wealth isn't a goal in and of itself, but it does make living in a harsh city much easier.

So, Shakhan & I can pretty much go with whatever we feel. But Diggle likes a bit of Chaos cause it's far more interesting than order.

Hytogg and Varrel will preserve life but doesn't care to follow law. So baddies may die to save goodies. (by preserve life, it comes down to protecting life essence by preventing imposed suffering)

Una and Ash both wish to preserve life and do whats right but they butt heads when it comes to the method of doing so.

Before Diggle came along. There surely would have and should have been disagreements between Una and Ash. Now Diggle joins and swings the parties alignment more toward Chaos. It will be hard for Ashe to sway the party from here on in because Diggle will prefer the non lawful method as will Una. And the others wont care as long as those who deserve to be saved, are.

I would say that Ash would, in time become either more staunch on his views and be ejected from the party as it would streamline the party motivations. Or he would simply leave the party himself and look for a better group that follow his views.

This is the reason I am always cautious with Paladins and way up the party alignment before accepting one.

If playing a Paladin I tend to follow LAW within the deities areas of concern. (in this case Iomedae; honor, justice, rulership, valor) Honor, keep your word. Justice, see that the unlawful are punished. Rulership, strive to uphold rulership only if it is LG. Valor, courage in the defense of your cause.

So be staunch about protecting good aligned. Be suspicious of neutral aligned. Judge evil aligned. Remember, nothing is born innately evil. They earn that alignment just as you earn your alignment badge. Detect Evil is your friend. Say a prayer to Iomedae as you judge the evil.

Just wanted to add, that you begin turning evil when you intentionally cause suffering. If you judge someone after detecting them evil, you will do your part by giving them a swift death without sufferance.

Yep, you missed a few good arguments. Me and Ashe, Varrel and Ashe. In fact, we forgot to loot Cabbagehead's body this last adventure because Varrel and Ashe were too busy arguing over killing him, and Una and Shakhan were trying to get out of earshot of the argument. So, yeah. It makes for great roleplay, but we might have passed over some good stuff.

I don't have any qualms over playing a paladin. I don't particularly happen to like Iomedae because I think she's a little stuffy. But my Pathfinder Society character is a Paladin of Arazni, a member of the Order of the Phoenix, dedicated to Arazni's restoration to divinity. And yes, he occasionally monologues, probably not as much as Ashe does, but its a fashion choice. He can also be overprotective of female characters, overconfident in his paladin abilities, and otherwise probably generally irritating. But humility is part of the Paladin code, in some places, and is a personal goal of Marcellius to develop that humility.

I ...assume we are going to sell all the mundane equipment not claimed. Ashe would like to use the alchemical laboratory. Also do those books in the library give any added bonus to research in those fields? Just curios... there are Organized Play modules that do stuff like that...especially when they mention a specific subject in a tome of lore.
