*Holds up hand*

I do vote to 'keeping up the good fight'.

So...and I applaud and thank TheReplacementGM for the efforts they are undertaking...who else amongst us wishes to carry on?

*Blush* I must admit to having gotten a little confused as to who we were losing.

So, another round of applications? Perhaps a slightly higher emphasis upon 'staying power' for those who wish to join?

Thoughts? Comments?

Much cheers to you and yours.

Well I am up for continuing. We have yet to hear from our bard however....

Assuming I open a recruitment thread. Something I will be more than happy to create and manage how are these for guidelines?

Looking for (one or two or more??) players.

Archivist (Bard). Whip using archeologist. I think that concept rings a bell somewhere....

Summoner. Her eloidian poses as her manservant. People are starting to talk but there has been no spike in torch and pitchfork sales as yet.

Character type~ This is a horror game so the players represent the normality against which the strangeness will contrast. This means that characters that can walk down a village lane and not cause folks to run for their weapons will have a pronounced selection advantage.

MANDATORY backstory: To be considered you MUST have a connection to the Lorrimer family and a strong desire to uncover what is happening is the village. Again this is a horror game and heroes in horror games poke into things they should not. You must also have a reason why you missed the Professors furneal but something as simple as bad raods will suffice.

A: What is your connection to the Lorrimer family?
B: Why did you miss the furneal?
C: Why do you care what happens to a tiny hamlet in the middle of nowhere?
D: What are you afraid of?

Only a rough guideline so far. Any comments?

*Nods approvingly* Nice.

Though, perhaps a slight emphasis upon how rather worrisome and tiresome it is to have people drop out? Again, I do understand the trials and tribulations that Real Life imposes, but still....We are trying to over come rather dramatic player turn over....

Much cheers to you and yours.

Apologies for my tardiness everyone, I have been absolutely swamped with end-of-semester projects and various worries about money and transportation. And it is unlikely to slow down much for the next couple weeks, as I have yet more projects and finals all coming up. Still, better late than never!

I must say I am deeply sorry to see Tark go; I feel that Rendel's special brand of paranoia added a great deal to the experience and more than any of the other fellows we have lost thus far I think I shall miss him. Still, if you should still be poking around here Tark, I congratulate you and wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors!

I am more than happy to continue with this campaign; as much as the glacial speed can be a bit trying at times, I truly enjoy roleplaying Vaghn and interacting with my fellow players and the world. I am not ready to give him up just yet!

Your info sheet looks spectacular Creel, I am sure it will do wonderfully. I started at first level with standard wealth and, since we never seem to get around to formal loot splits, have not really increased that at all in the time since joining.

You might want to mention that Vaghn's emphasis is squarely on knowledges and not roguish skills so that potential candidates can plan accordingly.

I look forward to reading some great character concepts. Let the selection begin!

+1 Creel. Looks good. You guys pull 1-2 characters and you pick em. I'll wade into to approve them only if necessary. Ideally, each of you know what fits and what sorts of players you want in game.

Meanwhile, I'll devise a fitting exit for Rendel.....

Oh, and have your new people come in at 1st level, average wealth. You're not so far ahead that they need auto-advancement.

Master Creel - tell them 1) You just hit second level so they won't be that far behind, 2) I'll give them 500xp for a back story. They should explain why they missed the funeral, how they knew the professor, and why they are currently at the church of Pharasma.

Have some good apps and I have a couple of PM nibbles. Take a look and tell me what you think.

First reactions:

Charles: Like the personality. Never seen a blight druid played so those are both plusses. Did push on the stat restrictions a couple of times but not to hard.

Maya: A rogue is always useful. She does bring in an option for a Sczarni subplot if RGM wants to go that way. Different take on the Prof, might be good might not. Nothing really leaps out but that could be me.

Portia: Like the name. Strong (too strong RGM?) link to Lorrimer and Ravengro. Depending on a non-Core/APG feat for the character. It's from The Inner Sea guide so it is Pazio Pathfinder but is is outside the recommendations. Not too sure a third Arcane mixed arcane caster would be the best choice.

Hugo: Can use a priest. Might have some official standing in town if GM thinks it useful. Good ideas in the disease theme and missing Lorrimers burial because he was burying half a village.

I will hold the thread open at least til tomorrow but please let me know what you think of folks so far.

Dark Archive

Popped in, must say I think they are all quite strong characters, but I think the last two (Hugo the cleric and Dantrian the alchemist) best fit the themes of the campaign. Hugo could very well be the character with no direct link to the Professor, fighting instead for the sake of his home and family, which I like. Dantrian is quite interesting with the latent lycanthropy angle, a bit of horror that ties in quite nicely with what is currently going on with Tharnik. From a purely mechanical standpoint, a cleric of Pharasma would be wonderful help against all the undead we are sure to encounter in this AP, and the alchemist would be a useful flanker and (if he put some points in Disable Device) the party's trap-man. Barring a new application popping up and blowing me out of the water, these two get my vote.

RGM.
1.Could use a thumbs up or down on Dantarian's beastmorph archetype. From Ultimate combat.

2. Same on Portia's expected third level feat Dervish Dance. From inner sea world guide.

3. I strongly advised against a character starting with the stat-mods for middle aged. It seemed a tad cheesey, was that correct?

HP: 28 / 28, Init:+3, Perc:+7,AC:16,Fort:+3,Ref:+4,Will:+3

Thoughts.

Ramblings:

1) Master Dantrian, while an interesting and functional character and development of the rules....Would seem to actually be heading in a direction where potential NPC's (I.E. 'Peasants') might not actually welcome the whole "Evolving into a beast. (Of course, my own research could also be seen in such a light...*Shrug*).

2) Mistress Portia will be an interesting should she accepted. Having developed a Magus myself I have a slight understanding of how they function (Though I also admit to just being a 'dabbler' as well). So, like most spell caster, they are handy until they run out of power...and so should always try and ration such power.

3) A link in finding the other characters would perhaps be nice. :)

So between Hugo, Portia, Dantrian, Maya, Charles?

Maya would get a tentative thumbs up (Even sight unseen) simply because I think a Thieves/Rogues skill set type is possibly needed in the group/adventure ahead. And sadly Dantarian would receive a tentative thumbs down, sue to the potential problems such an 'Animorph' might attract.

I hope my musings have helped some. *Bows*

If you guys are okay with a beastmorph alchemist, then you won't hear any complaint from me. Additionally, I really like his back story and I think he'd fit into this campaign nicely. That said, he is another arcane caster (although it appears he'll try to play the fighter role at higher levels).

I'm okay with the Dervish Feat, as well. I like the Magus class and I like the name.

My feedback...:

I'm not particularly thrilled with the middle-aged blight druid.

I like Portia's name and concept, but it doesn't jump out at me.

I like the rogue's concept, although I'd ask she revise her original connections to Lorrimor. I could see him hiring people for special contracts, but not standing by idly in a vault in a "hunger games" sort of test for the best rogue. But really, that's my only complaint.

I like the beastmorph, not so much for his "powers," but for his story. That said, I don't think his powers are going to be that much of a problem, provided they don't manifest too often during the "trust" stage of the first adventure.

I really, really like Hugo's story. He gets a thumbs up from me.

Okay folks, that's my $.02

Now that everyone is in I would like to report that my initial reactions have held. I strongly vote for Hugo and Dantarian, for the same reasons I mentioned before: I believe both their backstories/fluff/themes and game mechanics would complement our party well. I understand that Madeline is not a fan of Dantarian's dark secret, but I must humbly disagree with her assessment; it is my belief that the lycanthropy theme will add greatly to the narrative.

As a distant second choice I would take either of the druids, with a slight preference for Alexa over Charles simply because I think we're all full up on awkward academics.

Ok folks we have a full house and some really good canidates. So lets see if we can dash their hopes quickly.

I suggest we post our top three picks in order of preference. Then we total the votes and take the top 2 vote getters. Ties ro be broken by a coin toss or fight to the death.

For thise interented in the process votes will be aloted by reversing the ordinal. Meaning the a #1 pick earns 3 votes #2 earns 2 and your #3 pick gets 1 vote.

Here are mine:

#1. Alexa the Menhir Savant

#2. Hugo the Cleric

#3. Tahlaera

Since I have already been so public with my choices, I see no need for a spoiler. Here are mine:

1. Dantarian
2. Hugo
3. Alexa

Which puts us at the following:

1. Alexa with 6 votes
2. Hugo with 4 votes
3. Tie Maya and Dantarian with 3 votes each
4. Tie Tahlaera and Tarcobras with 1 vote each

Is RGM going to cast votes, or are done here?

PS. I think I am just a tad confused: are we adding two characters, or three? If the latter, we will need a tie breaker from RGM whether he planned on voting or not...

Thank you all for selecting me - I look forward to joining you - currently trying to get through the gameplay so that I know where you are.

RGM - is an owl familiar ok instead of a hawk? I can switch to a hawk if necessary, but felt like an owl instead - only real difference appears to be the hawk has slightly better perception whereas the owl has better stealth, and I get +3 Perception in dark conditions with the owl versus +3 in bright conditions with the hawk.

Also, looking at the makeup of the party, while I do not expect to be a main fighter, it might be better to have 14 str and 12 dex. If nobody cares, I think that I will switch these two and be a little more combat oriented.

Once again, thanks for selecting me, I look forward to the show, the undead show that is.

Alexa... great back story! +500 XP. Now, tell me how you arrived at the Church of Pharasma (which is where you will meet the PCs).

Anything that I might know regarding this church. Based on my background, Alexa was raised in a pretty Pharasma worshipping part of Ustalav. Being just north of the undead zone around the Gallowspire, her hometown, and most other small villages in the area, reveres Pharasma so that the people can be assured that those that get laid to rest, remain at rest. While she has grown to follow the Green Faith, she still pays homage to the Pharasman priests knowing the important work that they perform in keeping the land safe and keeping the dead dead.

Alexa knows that she is arriving well after the funeral and likely well after the reading of the will. So, the first place that she would visit would be the church where she would make a small donation and inquire about the funeral and where she could get in contact with the Professor's heirs.

Based upon the module, I would prefer the cleric - even if he is the most non-combat cleric in history. If necessary, I will let RGM decide on the other two, both give us martial capabilities. The thief more skills and trap searching, the alchemist more arcane power. Pretty much six in one, half dozen the other. Not that I want to pass the buck, but since each one got a single first place vote, I would say that Creel should be the tie breaker since he did not vote for either.

Dark Archive

Hugo isn't starting very strongly by not starting... why don't you choose, Creel.

Dark Archive

Odd. It seems Hugo's player posted just this morning in another recruitment thread; perhaps a PM would be in order?

In the unfortunate event that he cannot be located, I concur with Creel breaking the tie between the third place characters. Assuming they have not also moved on to other things by then...

PS. I have final exams next week, so expect my attendance to dip around then and revive after.

Agreed. Thanks for the update.

Ugh, I have reached studying saturation point, and therefore I am off to bed. Welcome Alexa and Hugo. Nice backgrounds both, and I must say I am tickled by Alexa's Spell Focus (conjugation) feat. If we need to modify verbs or rationalize denominators, we know to whom we must turn! :P

For some reason my profile and backstory for this character appears to have eaten itself, but its saved on my laptop at home so I will restore tonight.

To the powers that be:

1) Do you mind if I do a little bit of stat swapping to make Hugo less of a wet lettuce?
2)For a campaign trait I'm going to take "On The Payroll" as it is the only one that vaguely fits the backstory, slightly modified in that Lorrimor unexpectedly paid for my clerichood rather than paying me to work for him. The extra cash could be a stipend for working in the church if suitable.
3) Other than the incredible disappearing stat block on my profile, is there anything else you need from me?

Once again, apologies for the delay in checking in.

Kind regards,
Hugo

Likewise - you guys had a ton of posts over the first few weeks of this campaign. Since I was in another campaign briefly - before the DM disappeared, I want to know if I made it farther than you all so as to avoid any inconsistencies. Made it about 1/3 of the way through the Gameplay so far and I must say, a short 50 posts gets much longer when I discover you all like to hide 3-4 long paragraphs in each spoiler.

Hugo - don't worry about going too much onto the combat side. I added a little to my strength so that I am more of a combat oriented druid - not pure beast, but I should be able to hold my own.

Male Human Cleric/1

Just re-statting my character now because I cant find the damn page I saved. I have changed him so he is neutral in all of his physical stats. I want the whole idea of him to be that he really was just a normal guy in a pretty crappy situation just trying to make life better for people in his village...until the goddess of death took notice. His power comes from his strength of character, not his strength of arms.

...So he'll be glad that one of his new friends can turn into a clawed monstrosity :)

Whadda ya mean Clawed Monstrosity - I see dead people.

Hugo - don't forget all the skills and stats and so forth. Gonna be hard to run if you are nekkid and have no spells, skills, or feats. Although it would be interesting to see you try. (I suddenly have this vision of Will Ferrel, aka Frank the Tank, from Old School.)

All done and on the profile.

Alexa - Weirdly enough one of my characters has had to run around naked in a campaign before. My local DM loves using environmental matters to screw with you (falling buildings and the like) and apparently in his game fire resistance doesn't apply to your robes if you are stood in a burning building. Especially if you're the one who set it on fire.

Hugo, Alexa - welcome. Glad to see you're both active and on board. Just a little info. I'm in the Middle Easy (as we like to call it), specifically Kuwait... so I'm GMT +3. As a result, I keep some strange hours. I try to check the boards at least twice a day, but sometimes it's only once. I occasionally get busy on the weekend (Friday, Saturday), but expect to see regular posts from me from Sunday-Thursday.

I prefer on-going dialogue, so by all means, jump in and discuss (in character), whatever it is that interests you. If you've both recently arrived at the church of Pharasma, you should start your scene speaking with Father Grimburrow (who Hugo would naturally know).

If you'd like, set that scene in a spoiler and call it "Church scene" and I'll roll you into the other scene as soon as they get there.

Everyone else - The Battle with Rendel Continues. The sooner we resolve this, the sooner you can move to the church and we can incorporate the new PCs into this scene. I know Vaghn is sort of busy, so I'm going to pass up people's actions that don't post. Not to be a hard ass, but to keep things moving. We need to pick up the pace if we're ever going to finish this thing! ;)
