"Talk, huh? Well, if that's how you talk, then I certainly can't fault you for it can I?" He returns his arrow to its quiver. "The name's Shauldrek, Inquisitor of Valani," he salutes the flying creature with his oversized left arm.
He offers the same to shake hands with Bawl, then checks himself and offers his normal sized one instead. He felt much more comfortable around the kobold and dragon than he would around the local humans. His bright red skin and asymmetry normally makes them cower, but he felt as though this would not be the reaction offered by a pair of sentient reptiles.

A couple potential concerns:

This backstory idea is kind of dark, but I don't plan on getting too graphic with any of the nasty stuff in it. Some mild Rise of the Runelords Spoilers may follow (though I've changed a few cosmetic things).

Also, the concept sort of only works if he's shockingly young to be joining a caravan guard. I wrote him as 13. If the entire concept is just a bit too skeevy for the campaign you want to run or it makes other players uncomfortable I totally get it. Anyways, the fluff of Christian Vinder:

Christian is a skittish boy who hates his house but loves his family:

Christian is a skittish boy who hates his family.

Christian is the son of one of the “heroes” of Sandpoint and Shayliss, an unlucky girl who got a bit too star-struck. After a night of passion his father, the bard Kristoff, went to the mountains and never returned to Sandpoint, though the others who went with him said that he had not died. Shayliss was heartbroken at the realization that Kristoff had no intention of coming back to her, and sank into a deep depression.

Christian's grandfather Ven was a very unsympathetic man who took the fact that his once happy and popular daughter was now forlorn and had a baby with no father on the youth. These episodes were often violent. Christian learned quickly that he could not count on his mother to help him in her state, so he frequently ran into the town itself. One day he met Shalelu near the Rusty Dragon and she agreed to bring the boy inside for some first aid for a cut he got under an eye from a thrown cup. Christian grew to love the crowd at the Dragon ever since then. He's spent some time in the forest with Shalelu, but refuses to tell them about his home situation (though they've doubtlessly figured it out by now) out of fear that they won't like him. He's isolated from kids his own age because they hear the noises coming from his house and stay away.

Ameiko, Shalelu and Sandru became Christian's family away from home, the Dragon a place where he could be safe, and the woods a place where he can feel empowered. His constant terror coming from the small world he grew up before he ran into the town one day when he was six still haven't truly left him though. He's skittish and jumpy, but willing to fight against the enemies of his newfound friends. He's been hunting with Shalelu before, but he works against himself. He lacks self-confidence and any sense of purpose or fun when he's not around Ameiko, Sandru or Shalelu.

He still fears his grandfather, since for good or for ill children think of their primary caretakers as invincible no matter how big they get, but feels safe in the presence of his new family and is willing to do much for them, if not literally anything.

Motivation:
Christian's main motivation right now is security. His running and hiding abilities helped him make it as long as he has, but even in his advanced state of learned helplessness he feels that his current skills won't last forever. He wants to be able to latch on to someone or something to make him feel safe, or learn how to make himself feel safe (something he would not have considered without Shalelu's occasional hunting lesson).

Crunch to follow.

Another chef, eh? I call for a cook-off between Lou and the little dragon, Iron Chef style!

CHEESE!!

Sovereign Court

Thank you everyone for your continued interest.

Full disclosure, Lou_Kasuri is our reserved spot. More than one chef might actually be a great idea for such a long journey, hehe. He and I were a part of a previous Jade Regent campaign which faltered before it ever left the dragon when the DM disappeared.

Rest assured, this story will AT LEAST make it out the door.

If it would help you maintain your interest in the campaign, please feel free to do some free-flow roleplay within recruitment.

Setting: You have accompanied Sandru's caravan on a trip to Magnimar for a day or two.

I've got a cap on the number of submissions I'll take. We should look to close recruitment later this week.

Can you open discussion instead? If recruitment gets too full of in character posts then people are less likely to visit and apply. If nothing else you can make a new thread for the actual game if Discussion gets too full as well.

Liberty's Edge

Dot. I was in the same game as TheCelticCircle.

I am going to apply with an Elven Hunter with a tiger animal companion. Probably apprenticed to Shalelu and roams the area around Sandpoint, eliminating threats and learning from her.

Liberty's Edge

Here is a link to a couple of my other favorite characters, and I am very frequent on the boards. I am in six games, and GM'ing one, in which Lou Kasuri's player is in. I am very focused on role playing, much more so than dice rolling and maximizing/meta gaming.

Alabaster Cain, S&S warpriest

Apex Stormshard, the character from the failed Jade Regent Adventure

Alzaar Na' Keth, Mummy's Mask Bard

A link to the S&S game Alabaster is in, because I love roleplaying him

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Agreed. The discussion thread would make for some good pre-game RP. Of course, RP here would help keep it updated, I guess...

Bawl bows to Shauldrek and looks at the hand, before remembering to grab and shake it. "Sorry. I've found most folks react badly to my claws... like my brother's telepathy." Bawl smiles up at Tik-Tik and points up to him as he turns back. "I am Bawl Mvashti, and this my adopted brother, Tik-Tik. Well... technically, we're both adopted, but our mother makes no distinctions, so neither to do I."

Is recruitment still open?

Nice to see you apply Steven Evil.

Similar question to Alynthar42, have all the people who submitted a character concept part of the number of applicatons, or only those who have submitted a full character?

Another question, which should be my last, you said that posting would be above 2 per week... seeing as though the other game your are DMing seems to have more than that (~4), are you planning for this game to have a slower pace?

Should be posting the full character with stats fairly soon (although, having broken my glasses yesterday, it might take longer than expected, and without them it gets really hard to work on a computer).

Sovereign Court

Many Things
I'd prefer to just keep our RP here. It will keep the recruitment thread updated, as our kobold friend has pointed out.

Since we do have a great deal of applicants so far. (Thanks again, all.) I'm not worried about our brief few days of RP chatter turning away other players from applying.
-If they don't want to have fun with us, then that's on them.-

Recruitment is still open for another few days. When I announce the close of recruitment, I will have everyone's characters copied down somewhere. I'll then use those notes for reference and vet everyone.
Persons who have not completed their character by that point will not be considered for play.

I am not planning this game to have any pace. I'm just hoping we have fun.

Here's an inciting incident for Magnimar if you want one: It's late afternoon in the market, a few hours before dinner at the inn. Among the throngs, you see a gaunt-looking half elf who is trying to buy red fruit from a merchant's stall. However, the Chellish merchant claims he will only sell the fruit to him for an exorbitant price.

This is Steven_Evil's character, Elric, the half elf hunter! and likewise, CelticCircle. Let's hope we can create the same awesome rp'ing here we had in our last game.

Elric steps off the caravan, Anto lithely following right at his side.
Now I know why Shalelu wanted me to go with Sandru. This is the strangest assortment of people I have ever seen him take along. Wouldn't have been hard to miss someone doing something untoward...

He absentmindedly rubs Anto between the ears while he thinks, and then strides to Sandru.
I have an errand or two to attend to for Shalelu while we are here. Do you need me to stay and continue guarding, or shall I take my leave?

Sandru nods at the hunter and smiles.
No, no, go my boy! She was gracious enough to lend me her assistant as a guard, the least I can do is let you enjoy the town! You and Anto go find something fun to do, and take care of whatever ol' Shalelu wants!

Elric nods, and offers the man a small smile before pulling his hood up and striding into the town. After visiting a few shops and acquiring the items Shalelu wanted, he begins making his way to inn that the caravan members were staying at.

A few hours before diiner, he comes across a small strip of merchant's stalls, and overhears a merchant talking loudly. He moves closer to investigate, and hears the merchant refusing to sell a fruit of some type to a gaunt looking half elf for a normal price.
Different town, same people, it seems. I suppose my people are universally looked down on...

He makes his way up to the stall, his way made easy by the people parting ways when they see Anto.
Sir, is there a problem? he asks the merchant. I thought I heard the price of that fruit wrong... Surely it isn't so high?

His words are accented by Anto sniffing the table, and then huffing.

Anto follows his master to the noise the people are making, where he finds a table full of brightly colored people food, and new smells. He lifts himself up, placing his front paws on the table, and sniffs loudly. Finding nothing he deems edible, he gets back down and sits down beside Elric, watching the conversation take place, and watching Elric's body language and listening to his tone of voice to judge what he should do.

Liberty's Edge

Oh, right, my description.

Elric is a half elf hunter who does what Shalelu says.

Anto is a tiger (rescued from an abusive circus when Elric was 13) who follows Elric around.

The two are going to be heavily focused on teamwork feats, and will be more than willing to rp "training" other pcs who wish to take them as well.

Elric is socially inept, spending the bulk of his life being trained by Shalelu, because of the way the orphanage treated him. His backstory is in his profile for those who wish to read it. Because of this, don't expect him to be very good at social encounters, and don't be surprised if he outright fails them.

His heart is in the right place though, and he will do what he can to help those who need it.

He is currently smitten with Ameiko, as she is a strong woman who knows her way around a fight. He respects that.

I am dotting, as the reserved spot is someone I've done some RP with before. -waves-

Seeing as how Shauldrek will have been raised by Shalelu, it stands to reason that the two of us would've trained together at one point or other. What teamwork feat(s) do you have?

Shauldrek answers the kobold, "That must be nice. I was brought up by a couple different people, mostly Shalelu. She was more of a big sister than anything else, though."

Later...

As the caravan approaches the big city, Shauldrek alters himself to his go-to human image: same height and build but more proportionate, and with tan human-fleshtone skin, wild white hair and yellow-brown eyes. He glances over at the reptiles, "Helps to blend in some times...especially when people don't know me."

Later...

By the time they reached a small bazaar outside their inn, Shauldrek's spell had worn off, and the townsfolk could see him for what he was. But after the initial gasps and questions he'd gotten used to, everyone goes back to their lives. If only I'd been born around here, he thinks. Seeing Elric and Anto head toward a particular stall, he follows nigh-instinctively having trained a good bit with the two of them. Unlike usual, however, Elric speaks first. I guess he is a little more invested when it comes to half-elves, Shauldrek thinks. So the hungerseed stands behind his cohort and does his best to look intimidating (which isn't hard for him).

Right now, just precise strike. Once I am able to share them with Anto I'm going to focus on flanking teamwork and allies. Should be fun, especially if we have a rogue or other flanking style combatants. I may even bleed over into the ranged flanking tree. Right now, I'm looking at taking outflank, paired opportunists, and seize the moment for sure.Probably going to throw power attack in there somewhere as well.

Elric sighs inwardly with relief when Shauldrek steps up behind him.
Thank the heavens he showed up... I didn't really have a plan for this. I just get so mad when I see people being discriminated against for things they can't help. Hopefully this diffuses without making a scene...

His hand instinctively goes down to Anto, his palm resting on the tiger's head.

Liberty's Edge

Also, hey shadowyfox! So that's TWO people from my game applying to this. It'd be kinda cool if we all got in, wouldn't it? Also, TheCelticCircle is an awesome roleplayer. He was in a game with me not too long back that kinda faded out.

How do you feel about drawbacks?

Well shit. Two Hunters. That drops my chances. Same race too.

As usually, Shalewen and her companion, Shadow, had moved to the front of the caravan as forward scouts. So she knew before anyone else that she was going to hate Magnimar. Even from a hill several hours away yet she could tell it would be too big and too noisy. Shadow, named because he mirrored her every step most of the time, merely panted in response to her annoyed sigh. Of course he had no opinion, he was too young still.

As expected, when they entered the city a great wave of noise and smells rushed out to meet them. Shadow turned his head this way and that to take in the many new scents but never left Shalewen's side. She tried to calm calm the buzzing in her head but sounds and sights assaulted her half-elven senses. How could anyone live in such a hectic place?

Eventually the she was able to ignore most of it and finally get back to focusing on the task at hand, watching over the caravan. She watches the roof tops as as Elric and Shauldrek watch the people and soon they are safely to their destination. With free time on hand, Shalewen walks behind the others, quiet as the tiger at Elric's side. It was interesting to see that few payed the animal companions, a large cat and dog, much mind. Then again, this was Magnimar, its people have seen a lot already.

Eventually here companions break off and approach a stall. One where a man much like herself was having difficulty. Since her own heratige had never caused her issue in Sandpoint, she wasn't sure what was going on or why Elric approached.

But imagine the teamwork shenanigans we could pull off if we both made it in!

Elric feels the presence of two more people behind him, and silently berates himself.
Dammit, this is exactly what I didn't want! Too many people will draw attention!

Already, he could feel the stares from other people in the small plaza, and his ears notice conversations dying down as people begin watching. He slightly turns his head to see who had approached. When he sees who, his shoulders sag a bit. He remembers them, they usually ran front scouts for the caravan while he and Anto ran rear. He had seen them around Sandpoint, too, both in the wilds and in the city proper.
The woman and her wolf. They'll stand out just as much as Anto and I. At least it wasn't the two reptiles. They would have had the entire damn city here.

He turns to face the merchant again.
Look... I don't want to make a scene here, and it looks like that's exactly what's happening. Just sell this man the fruit for the normal price. There's no reason to be untoward to him. Please.

His tone comes off a bit abrasive, and not at all diplomatic like he wanted it to.
Gah! Shalelu always makes things like that sound so nice... Why the hell can't I?

As Shadow approaches at the heels of the new person, Anto flicks an ear lazily back at him, and then slowly turns his head to appraise the wolf. After a moment, he turns back around, his curiosity sated for the moment.

The tiger then yawns, his mouth open wide enough for a man to put his head in, and the sound that escapes the giant cat is not very threatening, more like a low Whaaoouuumm.

The teeth that are displayed however, are another matter. Large, sharp, and plenty.

::Like my stinger is anymore welcome than my thoughts? People always assume I can read minds, but that's a bunch of scale rotted nonsense! Only thoughts I get are the ones people send back in conversation!:: He explains, flying in lazy circles.

Later, after following Shualdrek and Bawl for a while, he watches everyone's reactions and even waves a claw to the people that notice him. Then he spies the tiger.

::Hey!:: He broadcasts mentally. ::I've never seen a tiger before! This is great!::

Finished. If I get picked I'll make another for Shadow like you have for Anto.

With her attentions focused on the trader and the half-elf, Shalewen didn't notice her companion go stock still. Not out of fear, but mischief. The large black wolf slithered forward with stealth and grace, his belly barely off the ground. His target, the tiger before them. Shadow had great fun tormenting the lazy feline when they camped and he planned to do it yet again.

He closed the gap until he was about three inches from the cats flank. And then, fast as a viper, he lunges and nips at the back leg of the great cat before springing back on the defensive. Shalewen only catches the wolf after the incident and sharply calls, "Dae, ndu."

Elvish:

"Shadow, down."

While Shalewen was reserved and quiet, her companion was not.

With a loud Wawr!! Anto whirls, his massive paw swiping at the wolf futilely. Realizing he'd been had yet again, he then tries to seem nonchalant, licking a paw and rubbing his forehead. After a couple of seconds, he peeks out from under his paw to see if anyone noticed, and then folds his ears back at Shadow. Elric puts his hand back on the cat's head and speaks with his normal quiet voice.
Down, Anto. Now is not the time for games. You can get him back later, when we are out of sight.

A small chuckle escapes him, and then he continues.
It's your own fault though. You knew he was there and you let your guard down. Shalelu would take your dinner meat for that. You're lucky she's not here.

His words are accompanied by a smile and a run between the ears. His eyes, however, never leave the merchant.

When the small dragon-creature communicates with his mind-talk, he is confused for a second, and then it makes sense.
He wouldn't have seen us on the trip, actually. We spent the entire thing on rear guard, far away from the passenger wagons. Well, I'm sure he'll have plenty of time to look at Anto in the inn, as long as they allow tigers...

If no one else takes the precise strike feat, then I'll probably swap it for power attack before the game starts. I can't share teamwork feats with Anto until level four, so it won't really help out since Anto doesn't qualify for it. That is, unless the almighty GM will allow him to add teamwork feats to the list of feats he can take as an animal companion. I'm a bit hazy on that part. Does he still get a feat for being first level and then a second for being an animal companion, or does he only get the amount of feats presented on the animal companion chart?

Drawbacks are acceptable. What you have so far - three feats and one drawback - is okay.

Further note: The RP herein will be all you, players. I've given you an inciting incident. From there forwards it is all your party.

I have only this question, Trux. Have I done Anto's feats right or is he supposed to have one more, and are teamwork feats allowed to be taken?

Missed the text, sorry.

Anto gets one feat at level one. You can compare him to these sample animal companions for cross reference.

Ok good. I did it correctly then. Thanks!

Update to character: I added the overprotective drawback to represent him not being able to save Anto's mother when he rescued Anto, and added the backstabber trait which adds 1 point of damage when flanking to represent him training with Anto on flanking maneuvers.

If no one minds I'm going to drive the narrative forward a bit. It seems like everyone is unsure of how to proceed with this.

The merchant begins to look uneasy at the strange group gathered at his stall, but he stands his group nonetheless, and speaks to Elric in a loud and arrogant voice.
It's my right to set my own prices! Besides, he's just a damned bastard half elf anyway, don't you see?
Remember Elric has his hood up to hide his Elven ears.

He sneers at the gaunt half elf while he speaks to Elric
Even if you don't agree, the people gathered behind you haven't said a word, woodsman. They understand how the world works. You should go mind your own business and stay out of city affairs.

He chuckles at the last bit.
Damned knife-ears. Always trying to be humans. Not on my watch, I say...

Elric is struck speechless by the merchant's outburst, and looks at the group behind him for support.

::Why you hamot kaq!:: Tik-Tik yells as he lands on the stall, growling as his wings flare. ::You think because he's got pointy ears you can be a fool and turn down good coin!?:: He looks at the fruit and shakes his head. ::Some of its not even ripe!::

"Tik-Tik! Mind your language!" Bawl barks (or more accurately, yaps), stepping up and trying to tug his "brother" back by the tail. "What would mom say if she heard you using words like those!"

Sadly, Bawl knew all too well what such discrimination was like, and he pitied the half-elf. But such interactions had to be met with brains, not bellows. The hooded stranger seemed to be in support of the half-elf... good, the poor fellow wasn't totally alone.

"Behave, Tik-Tik. Let your big brother handle this." he hushed, before turning back to the merchant and smiling, revealing a notable collection of fangs poking out from his maw here and there. "You'll have to forgive my little brother. He's a bit excitable. How much is the asking price for the fruit?"

Tik-Tik would probably realize that Bawl is planning something. He avoids smiling very often, since it makes people nervous, so when he does, it's reserved for when he's about to get clever.

Lets be fair now, Tik-Tik's bellows do use brains. He can't vocally speak after all. ;)

::I never taught her what all the words I know mean, so she'd probably just swat me with that stirring spoon.:: He says flatly. ::And you're only able to say you're the big brother because you're ten or so times my size.::

...you win this round, tiny dragon.

"Exactly. So it still counts~" Bawl replied with a smirk to the psuedodragon. "Actually, before we discuss price, I have to ask: these didn't happen to come from Farmer Forbin's orchard, did they?" Bawl asked, turning back to the vendor and still smiling.

"I heard he found a gargle worm in one of his trees a couple days ago, and he fears the whole crop might be infested. But, seeing as you're a man who devotes a great deal of care in where something comes from..." Bawl said, his little yellow eyes darting to the half-elf he was berating earlier. A great deal of care, indeed. "...I don't imagine you'd even think of putting up infected fruits for sale. Would you?"

I never tire of hearing that, "big" brother.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I don't think the prospective GM is going to play the merchant, so I guess feel free to do like I did and play the merchant's response to you.

At the sudden appearance of the tiny dragon, Anto puts his massive front paws on the merchant stand again, and sniffs him. After a few loud huffs, the cat then licks the creature, all along one hind leg, his huge tongue more dry and abrasive than Tik Tik would have expected.

An exasperated swat from Elric sits the great cat back down, a disappointed look on his face. Elric speaks to him in a chastising voice, in Elvish.

Elvish:
Anto! Down! He isn't food, he's one of the people we're guarding on the caravan! We'll eat at the inn, or if they won't let us in, we'll go hunting later.

Here is the finalized version of Laurentii (Character for the CelticCircle). His statbloc, slightly more in depth personality and background can be found in the Alias.

On to your questions: I do not think my name has much weight on the forums(although Steven Evil has said nice things here! and he is a great roleplayer too!), I try to keep the number of games I am involved in to a minimum (around 3) in order to juggle as little between characters. As for roleplay, this is what attracted me to pbp. I think my best can be found in the other Jade Regent game I played before (the same one that Steven Evil was in). This link and this one leads to the threads of the game. My character was Sybil Vekker.

Here is the statement of concept of the character (abridged from the previous version I posted):
Laurentii the forlorn elf is a bookworm librarian who seeks to seize the moment and live life to its fullest.
Note: He does not have a family name since he was adopted.

I will posting for the encounter shortly.

Trux, please do tell me if anything is missing.

Sorry all, but I don't want to be giving you feedback on your submissions other than to clear up what is acceptable or not. Everyone is expected to have complete applications by the end of recruitment (in a few days time). If the info is not

A) available in your posts from this thread or
B) apparent from your alias page,

then it will be hard for me to allow you into the game.

I will make a post announcing when recruitment closes 24 hours before we're done. Everyone (including new applicants) will have more or less that much time to finalize their characters.

Today was definitely Laurentii's lucky day. First, he had finally booked a place on a caravan to go to Sandpoint. Even more exciting, its owner, a proud nomadic varisian man named Sandru, who likely had a number of stories adventures to entertain him with. Even more exciting was the fact that by travelling back to Sandpoint, Laurentii he would finally get to meet miss Ameiko Kajitsu again and, hopefully, learn more about the fabled Tian-Xia.

Second, he had spotted a most interesting group composed of various races which he had only read about (and only an hour ago, heard described by Sandru as the guards of the caravan). This diversity excited an exalted him. So roused was his curiosity that he had difficulty stopping himself from shaking.

Quadruped, striped, feline features... must be a tiger. A tiger, oh my, who would have thought that such a beast would live so far north! Ho, ho! this is a pseudodragon. Believed to be a though reader. No, no, a telepath, they are not the same... I wonder if he would hear me if I though hard enough... hummm? And there, is that a kobold? I though they were barely allowed in Magnimar. He must have a derogation. Interesting, interesting... and is that a fiend’s half-breed. What diversity, more instructive than any exhibit found in this city! … and so went Laurentii's though as he unpolitetly and quite obviously stared at the group.

Laurentii’s thoughts were cut short by the altercation taking place. His lack of experience with buying his own food preventing him from forming his own opnion, he hypothesized that these people had more experience than him (none) in this matter, and were most likely right.

Oh.. the kobold is haggling it seems, interesting experience. I will join in and see how it goes.

Walking through the small crowd he arrived at the stall as the merchant was answering to Bawl.

”Yeah, they come from Forbin's orchard and stop bad mouthing my cuz's products, dragon runt...” the merchant was saying before being interrupted by Laurentii.

”You know, I couldn't help but overhear your argument. I have also heard that gargle worms were found on his farm.... and well, the poison they secrete can cause diarrea in humans... that would definitely be bad for business. Oh, look, there are even some dark points on this apple... a telltale sign of gargle worm poison... however, I do recall that reptiles are immune to those... maybe its time to change customers?” the elf said, all along overflowing with exuberance that made his speech sound awkward and out of touch with the content.

There, I changed a bit Laurentii's introduction so that this bit of RP matches his background and can be integrated as an introduction to the AP if needed.

Only once in his life had Elric ever been more relieved than when the other members of the caravan started taking up the "conversation", and that was when Shalelu rescued him and Anto from the goblins.

Gaining a bit of confidence from the kobold, dragon, and newcomer, he smirked at the merchant out from under his hood, before removing it and displaying his ears for all to see. You know, Humans like you are the reason I choose the wilderness as my home.

With that, he looks to the half elf that started it all.
Our caravan just arrived. Sandru's, from Sandpoint. I know for a fact there is better food there, and for a much better price. Go see him at the King's Way entrance and tell him Elric sent you. He'll make sure you're treated right.

The half elf nods, and takes Elric's hand for a moment, pressing something into it.
Thank you, sir woodsman. I only wanted fresh fruit for my daughter's birthday, and then this man starting throwing insults at me. You showed up not too long after. Please, take this. It's said to give you good luck.

The merchant laughs the gaunt half elf leaves.
Bah, two coppers says he forgets your name! Like it or not, knife ears, your kind is lesser to mine. It'll always be that way. The sooner you get over it, the sooner you can move on!

He then starts shouting into the crowd of people watching.
This group of misfits is lying! These crops came from my cousins' farm, and there ain't no gargle worms in 'em! What they do have is the best damn flavor this side of the great mountains!

He shoots the group a menacing stare, daring them with his eyes to continue interfering with his business.

Elric takes the time to peek at what the half elf gave him, and then looks sharply in the direction he went. He opens his hand to let the item dangle on the leather cord it's attached to, watching it spin in the light before shrugging his shoulders and putting it around his neck, tucking it into his traveling leathers.

Anyone who looks can see it's a crystal amulet depicting Erastil's holy symbol.

Laurentii frowns momentarily surprised that the man would wilfully shout to the crowds that his wares are not infested rather than simply keep it silent. Similarly, many passers-by seem concerned by the announcement and go out of their way to avoid the stand.

Well, that did not go as planned... I guess he is repaid for his racism...

Seeing as the others seem to be getting ready to leave Laurentii absent mindedly smiles to the merchant before turning toward the eclectic group.

If I don't say anything now, they will leave. How to get them to let me tag alone? he thinks, taking a step toward the others his hand slightly stretched toward them.

"Hummm, you know, I have heard of this nice inn called the Old Fang. It has a good reputation. It is not know for its discriminatory attitude. If you want, I can lead you there." he finishes, smiling with an hopeful look.

Sorry for my recent silence

Shauldrek steps up to the racist fool, no longer capable of keeping a lid on his fragile temper. "Lesser?! LESSER?! The hungerseed's already red skin begins to flush to a deep purple as it has so often before, "I wonder how you feel about Oni-spawn? Tieflings?! Probably think we're LESSER species as well, eh?" His larger arm comes crashing down on the table destroying whatever produce might've been beneath it. "Why don't you come out from behind your counter, and SHOW me just how SUPERIOR you are!"

Intimidate: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

::Now there's no need for that! He's hardly a credit to his species, after all. I mean, look at how much he worries over selling an apple with gargle worms in it to a half-elf! Clearly he's not as racist as he seems!::

Lets make this interesting...

Anto had been dreamily watching a meat vendor loading shanks of pork onto a spit when Shauldrek's outburst startled him. He rears up on his hind legs, standing taller than almost everyone at the table for a moment, and then crashes down onto all fours, into his battle stance, and letting out a mighty Waaawwrrrr!, causing people to shout in panic and run away from the stall, where they were watching the argument. Anto looks around for the threat that caused the Oni-Spawn to shout.

Almost at the same time, the merchant points at Shauldrek, stammering out
Yo-- You smashed my goods! GUARDS GUARDS!!, and when Anto rears up, begins to shout I'm under attack!! Help!! Help!!

As a group of four guards rushes toward the stall, Elric tries to settle the great cat down, to no avail, finally turning to the guards and throwing his hands up in the air, shouting
We haven't attacked anyone! My companion was shocked by our friend'a outburst and thought there was an enemy!!

Cut in midway through his invitation by Shauldrek's outburst, Laurentii takes a step back, impressed by the tiefling's strenght and presence. This step is followed by three more when Anto roars. His heart racing from both fear and excitement, the elf freezes for a few seconds unable do detach his eyes from a scene he never even dreamt of witnessing.

Laurentii is taken out of his dreamlike state when the guard are called. First relieved to hear the guard coming, a second glance at the situation makes it quite clear that he is not on the right side of the action.

Four guards surround the group, looking quite frightened by the presend of a wolf, a tiger and an impressive and angry tiefling. The leader, his voice quivering looks at Elric.

"Ca..calm down everyone. You, tell your tiger to stand down. And you, p-please step away from the vendor." he finishes, speaking to Shauldrek.

Laurentii takes his hands away from his rapier as a sign of peace.

Oh my, what to do? Bribes... no, not here... refund.. hummm possible.

"It's all a misunderstanding. Please, no one was wounded. I can even compenstate the vendor for his destroyed merchandise... how about 10 gold pieces?" he says hopeful.

I hope this is enough for the 5 apples... he thinks, truly ignorant.

Hearing the amount, the merchant's eyes open wide before he can control them. Clearly, the compensation is worth much more than even the quasi assault by the tiefling.

Elric snaps at the guard, clearly stressed out by the whole debacle.
He's not my tiger, he snorts out, He's [b]my friend[/i], and have you ever tried to calm down an 800 pound jungle cat?

Nevertheless, he puts his hand on Anto's back, and speaks to him in a soothing voice. After a few seconds the tiger's haunches lower, and he sits, but still looks around warily at the arms guards now surrounding him and his friend.

Elric looks over to Laurentii, and then to the guards, trying to decide what he's supposed to do, while longingly thinking to himself.
Gah! What I wouldn't give to be in the woods hunting down goblins right now! Cities are just too.... busy!

Shalewen starts to back away from the situation as soon as the newcomer arrived. Her form starts to blend with the shadows as well as that of her companion who had picked up on her trepidation. She wasn't even sure what was going on. Why were they arguing over food? Could they not find their own? And what did knife ear mean? She should leave. She wasn't going to be much help here anyway.

Just as she turned to leave there was loud bang and followed by a mighty roar. She turns and drops into a crouch. Shadow jumps in front of her and to the side, ready to protect her. His body was low and ready to pounce and his eyes starred intently ahead.

She wasn't sure what had set off the raucous but when the guards arrive she was sure she didn't want to be around anymore. Sandru would know what to do. once she is certain of her course of action she and the wolf the ghost away to get Sandru.
