The small town of Caesure, nestled deep within the Churlwood in Varisia, is fluttering this afternoon. Most of the shops closed when the news came in; now various Storykin stand sharing gossip as they talk quickly and lean in close to each other, eyes bright and the various inhabitants gesturing wildly as they share the news. Even some animal kith, rarely seen in town except to gather supplies and visit the tavern on occasion, gather to hear what others are saying and to offer their own opinion on the matters.

A tiny fox’s voice carries through the streets as he squeaks, ”The unicorn, haven’t you heard, the unicorn died in a fight, but he came back this morning, like nothing happened! The unicorn isn’t dead! He’s back in his garden like normal, fighting the Fool! And Brambleson’s seen him!” and he bounds off to talk to Warden Farkle, one of the few gnomes in the town, leaving a nearby house.

The town square is quite full, and several Storykin, and four humanoid rush past, each dressed in an elaborate hat and carrying a rapier, talking about how the Rabbit Prince had returned from the woods; Brambleson was in the Compert’s Call at this very moment! One of them stops with a flourish of his cape and says to his friend, ”Aramis, I can’t believe it. It’s said that he knows where he can find his courage, or where ever our stories are going. The Ethere Court’s calling an emergency meeting and we positively cannot be late.”

The Comptert’s Call:
The Compert’s Call is the local tavern. As one of the few such establishments in town, it does brisk business. More importantly, it’s owner, a grig named Mr. Softshoes, is one of the largest supports of the Ethere Court, though he shies away from combat himself. He sets rooms aside for newly arrived storykin before they find more permanent housing, and most of the storykin in town have passed a night under his roof. Newly arrived storykin also know that they can find employment there if no other trade suits them.

Inside the Compert’s Call, the tavern is bright and colorful, in part because the insides are covered in art. The tiny grig flits around the room to take orders or otherwise chat with customers, while servers, cooks and bartenders fill orders. A rather large rabbit wearing a cloak and bearing a broken sword sits at a table, drinking heavily and telling stories that make his fellow diners listen attentively.

Six feet long and with a jaw the size of a crocodile, Antika is an imposing view. The silvery-white serpent slides his way down the street, occasionally wriggling to the side to sniff at a bush or examine a light-pole. At the same time, his movements are determined and purposeful. He's heading toward the Compert's Call, on his way to hear the Rabbit Prince's stories. With Antika comes a reluctant second guest.

Everything about the girl riding on Antika seems grey and listless, from her hair and skin to her energy. Sometimes Pandora falls asleep for a few moments when her eidolon falls into the right rhythm, but inevitably, Antika finds something new and exciting to see and wakes her up. She yawns loudly, shuts her eyes against the light and the movement of another day, and complains quietly. "'Tika, why today? 'S supposed to be my day off adventure today..." Ever since arriving, anything more than getting a drink of water is 'adventure' to Pandora, and the Compert's Call is certainly more than she bargained for on her day off.

Antika slides his way into the tavern, takes a playful snap at Mr. Softshoes, and drops Pandora in a nice corner. He slides through the tavern, listening for any interesting stories from outside Caesure, while she, though feigning sleep, listens through his ears.

With all of the commotion even the young mouse wizard Macario was bound to be drawn out where he would otherwise have been nestled amongst stacks of books. Unlike the other animal kith, it was not uncommon to see him around town. His studious demeanor combined with an unassuming appearance made it easier for him to blend in.

Following the commotion Macario heads to the Comptert's Call. His own meager efforts at finding the missing Storykin had thus far been fruitless, but now it seemed someone else had made a discovery.

Careful not to get stepped on the mouse tries to find space so that he too may listen to the rabbits tales.

The regal and aloof seeming Amaterasu had come into town to find some supplies. It had been some time since she had set up a small cottage in the woods outside of town, ever since she had lost control of her own emotions, she found it wise to remain away from the village as much as possible. She found she had acquired a knack for making bad situations with her unstable temper.

The commotion in town was exactly what she had problems. The situation seemed dire though.

"Perhaps I should attend. This could be important." she says, convincing herself more than anything else.

The exotic looking woman makes her way towards the Comptert's Call, following the rest of the crowd and finding a seat by the wall so as to try and remain away from any who might wish to strike up a conversation. The last one she had had did not end on friendly terms.

It was all too perfect. As if the host of the ageless damned he had spurned to their glorious doom had made pilgrimage to each other from every plane, conspiring his breaking. As if the floods of their blood he'd savored so succulently had called out for poetic retribution from his belly, and were given their moment by whichever vexing powers that be.

Unmade. His castle, his furnaces, his storehouses, his serpent-steeds, his crown... His domain. Unmade. Oh the aeons spent learning, searching for a hole, a tear into the real from Caesure. The centuries spent in the real, creating valor and war, the souls spilt, the blood imbibed, all unraveled in a moment... Unmade.

And in their place? A horrid amulet, wrought of flesh and irony. Set in chain, a quivering, living heart mocks the king. BLASPHEMES him. Vehemence, the Provoker of Hearts, the Inciter of the First Fight, finds his kingdom vanished and left with the perfect token. He who made hearts dance and duel for eternity was himself unmade by the casual endowment of a heart itself.

He suffers impotency. Rage, without strength. His black pupils grow wide, and he bears his fang-littered mouth to the sky. But he feels... nothing.

He rises, and prepares to make war. To find the hollow chest to which this wicked heart belonged, and teach to this same trickster the meaning of reprisal.

Vehemence, crownless but SHAMELESS strides into Caesure, and storms into the Ethere Court. He makes no request or gives heed to supplications or eloquence, for the King of Pride does not bow.

He quells.

"WHERE ARE THE DIVINERS? THE WISE? RECREANTS THINK IT SANE TO PLAY TODDLER TRICKS ON MY HILL, AND LEAVE ME WITH THEIR EMBLEM. GIVE ME THE NAME OF WHOM THIS HEART BELONGS, THAT I MIGHT EVOKE MY SELF UPON THEM."

He throws the wretch heart to the floor in front of the Court.

Intro, done. Let the games begin... ...I won't post things this long all the time... I swear....

Seeing more people filter into the tavern, the Rabbit Prince rises from his seat, and stands on top of his table, saying, "Kith and kin, I have tidings from the wider world! As many of you know, I left the town on a mission to find more storykin. You have surely seen the small parade I've sent to the town? Oh yes, I've been quite successful!"

He goes quite for a moment, and then continues, "But I also bring disturbing news. The town is a flutter with the news - the Unicorn didn't die after her fatal fight. Rather, she reformed, like we all did in the old days, and wandered back into her grove. But," and Brambleson's face pales and his years flop ever-so-slightly, She's lost something and can't find it. The fool goblin she's always fighting with has disappeared."

Nestled in her corner, Pandora does her best to fall asleep, but Antika moves closer and closer to the conversation and the Rabbit Prince's words pound louder and louder in her head. After a few minutes, Antika squirms back to Pandora and starts nudging her to the conversation. A few more nudges and a shove with his tail, and Pandora finds herself in the center of the growing crowd. Because it's an expected question, and because Antika's rubbing against her and almost knocking her over, she asks.

"Well...*yawn*...what d'you think we should do 'bout it? I've got no desire t'find out what happened to me, anywa-ooph!" Another shove from Antika convinces Pandora to get back on track. "I mean...yawn...did you find any new information?" Her speech is slurred, the speech of someone who just woke up, and she speaks as if not expecting a response. As soon as she's finished, she marches back to her corner and feigns sleep. Antika stays around for any response the Rabbit Prince may care to give.

"I have," Brambleson says while wringing his hat and looking nervously at the other members of the Ethere Court, "but none of it is good news. I followed the Unicorn's path back from where she reappeared, and saw that she came from a deep, dark cave and there were a number of other footprints there as well, perhaps other lost kin. I couldn't bear to think about going into it, so I've come back for help. You all are hero-y types, aren't you? Figure out what's going on down there? Help a prince out?" He scans the crowd with a half-smile, looking for anyone stirring in response.

"Well if there are other kin in that cave then we can't just leave them there! Especially if you say it's dangerous..." The young mouse squirms around a bit. He was not as fierce as a crocodile nor as capable with a blade as Brambleson, but maybe he could contribute in other ways...?

"Let me help. I promise I won't get in the way." he squeaks, crawling onto the table so that he can get a better view of the rest of the tavern's patrons.

Jairdan was a new arrival to the town, but had quickly made himself useful, lending a hand where he could for food and shelter, unafraid of the work that others offered up. Getting used to this town was a bit of a change, but no problem at all. This tavern was one of his favorite places, where there was often no end to the conversations that could be had. As someone that enjoyed a good conversation regardless of the subject, he was here as often as his fortune would allow. Thankfully, most of the tasks were in barter, and he found favors carried farther than gold.

Shaking his head from the musing that distracted him he rose to go stand closer with the others, nodding acknowledgement to the rabbit prince and the ones that have given him their attention. "Questions answered are often their own reward, though one may not like the answers. I would join all of you to see it first-hand, if you would have me." The wooden mug in his hand was raised to them before he sipped it, the thumb of his other hand hooked casually into his belt. "I'm Jairdan. Well met!"

Likewise, Jairdan headed off to gather his things-- which was a brief departure since he had a room at the tavern. It was more the time it took to put his armor on, than pack everything. The others that would see him arrive would see the sculpted breastplate that was strapped on, its form that of a bare torso, burnished to a high shine by the care that had been taken with it. Set into the top of the armor near his throat was a cloudy gem, its neutral color contrasting to the armor.

The shield that was carried casually in one hand was square, the decorative edges of the square shield done in the style of the a lamp or lantern, as if he carried the light with him. Over his shoulder a sword was sheathed, its make simple but no less lovingly crafted. Along with the pack on his back, he was laden enough to make any swift movement an impossible task.

However his smile was genuine and warm, brimming with confidence and determination. He did have enough humility to look slightly sheepish at his tardiness. "Apologies, but donning this armor is somewhat of an undertaking." In his hand and resting over his shoulder was a simple battleaxe, sturdily made and well cared for.

It's a nice enough day today; the weather is neither extremely hot nor cold and there's a pleasant breeze that doesn't chill. Sunlight drips through the upper branches of the forest, leading to a lazy sort of look. Birds call to each other and some squirrels scurry above, causing leaves to fall as they leap.

While no one has created a complete map of the Churlwood (which is what, in part, allows Caesure to hide from those that would mean it harm), it is generally denser toward the north side of the forest and lighter in the south. It was not until they had traveled over the second bit of terrain that he would call "mildly inconveniencing" that Jairdan was reminded of the difficulty that Macario might be facing. Pausing and smiling warmly down at their companion, Jairdan offered a hand to the diminuitive kith. He had not considered the efforts of such travel for someone of a smaller stature, but now, he saw that it was a trial.

"I can offer a shoulder for your comfort or your burdens, but cannot guarantee its reliability should there be violence", he said. "I suspect the effort that you will be putting forth may yet eclipse ours."

"Oh, why thank you!" says Macario, pleasantly surprised by the mans compassion. The young wizard does his best to clean off his paws before carefully climbing on to the offered hand. He scurries up Jairdan's arm and onto his shoulder. Bunching up his robes, the mouse creates a semi-comfortable seat for him to take for the rest of the journey.

"Don't worry, these little paws find their own uses in a scrap. Plus, now that I'm up here and not down there I can help out with the brush a little bit." With that Macario keeps an eye out for any particularly bothersome brush so that he can try and push it aside with magic.

I'll cast Mage Hand when the opportunity presents itself to help push aside some of the branches and stuff that tries to get in our way.
