Seeing poor Salty getting stabbed at Suny winces and looks to her two aggressors. Then simply 'Winks out'

For the DM:
Suny uses her Ninja traick to 'Vanish' as the spell. Is a 'free action and renders the tanned Elf as if invisible. Thence, occluded from the Half-Orc's sight, on/in the next round she'll slip behind them- remove her patch work skirt and cast it over the Half-Orc with the club. Trying to do so while using him as cover. So entangled, she'll thence turn to the other Half-Orc and attempt to take him by at least a little surprise and give him a full 'what for of three attacks plus hopefully sneaky, surprise damage. (^_^)

Resolving dice rolls:

Stealth Roll:1d20 + 7 + 20 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 20 = 28 (To get into position, bonuses for being invisible)

Entangle Roll(CMB):1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 (Plus any bonuses for arriving by 'stealth')

Bluff Roll:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 (To not be seen by the other Half-orc)

Att Roll 1:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Yah, with those results, Suny is probably not going to do any sneak damage during this round.

Nhati knows that this isn't supposed to be a fight to the death, but seeing the halfling throw a dagger, she decides that she'll use a little deadly force of her own -- hoping that if she does take somebody down, she'll be able to get to them and stabilize them before their life seeps away.

Speaking a few arcane syllables, she points at the halfling. A ray of heat fires out, the air around it shimmering, in the direction of her target.

@Suny - since you're moving around behind the guys, you'll only be able to get one attack off at the most. If you hold onto the invisibility for another round, you'll be able to pop off a full attack out of sneakiness. So... up to you. I'll leave it open enough for now.

As Suny vanishes from sight, the sound of her rapidly dashing across the floor can be heard before her skirt reappears in a flying attempt to entangle the mace-wielding orc. The man growls at the effort, smashing the skirt to the ground with his mace while looking frantically for the elf behind it. He looks rather disappointed when he doesn't see her, but it doesn't stop him from flailing his weapon in her general direction. Fortunately, his wild attack hits nothing but air.

The other half-orc, still mostly stunned by Bellamy's display of color, can hardly move. He groans loudly then spits. "Bah. Magic's fer babies." He cracks his knuckles again and points at Bellamy. "Yer going down, Blindey."

The stunned half-orc has now recovered.

A gout of flame blasts across the battlefield, missing the halfling by a hair. She slides along the floor under the magic as she draws another knife, laughing the whole way. "Neat trick, but bad aim!"

Huldren grunts with pain and rolls away from the blow, clambering to his feet and wiping his face with a blood-coated hand. He peers down at his hand, then looks at his wound. "Hah! Just a lil' nick. We're just gettin' started." He grabs a small flask at his side and rapidly downs the contents. Large portions of the crowd start shouting cheers of encouragement for Huldren while simultaneously jeering at Reijo. Apparently landing an 'unfair' blow on the local champion was not being taken well.

Meanwhile, Bellamy tosses his rope at the unarmed half-orc's feet and it rapidly coils itself around his ankles. The orc flails wildly, growling disapproval, but can't seem to shake the rope off.

Spending one point from her arcane reservoir to use Dimensional Slide as a move action to put her in a position where she has a clear shot on the halfling, and is exactly 35 feet away from the halfling, if at all possible. That's the range of the scorching ray, but will maximize the distance the halfling has to throw daggers at her.

The arena itself is a 50-foot circular ring set three to four feet in the floor of the surrounding inn.

Reijo, Viktorra, and Huldren are all currently in a melee near the center of the arena. To the side of them, the entangled half-orc is engaged with Suny while the other has just charged Bellamy (and also Salty, who is standing near him) near the back of the arena. Nhati is hugging one side of the arena to get a clear shot on the halfling, who has been running back-and-forth along the back wall of the arena.

Hope that helps! If we really end up needing a map I can make one, just let me know if there's too much confusion.

Now she's got very little spell energy left. She pulls out her spellbook, and briefly pages through it, utilizing some of her arcane reservoir and some mnemonic trick she'd learned in order to replace the prepared spells in her mind.

Spend a full-round action, an arcane reservoir point, and the "Quick Study" exploit to replace "Mage Armor" with "Magic Missile". What she really needs is more second-level spell slots, but, alas, those are long gone for the day.

Bellamy quickly follows up with a quick thump from his sap, but the barrel-chested orc doesn't even flinch from the minor blow. Fortunately, Ol' Salty has his new friend's back. With a quick incantation he sends a sudden torrent of water gushing into the face of the half-orc. The blind Bellamy leaves his greener opponent little room to recover. Bringing his sap up, he clubs the man over the head as he's still recovering from the sudden gush of water. The hard-headed orc hardly seems to notice.

The nimble halfling ducks under Viktorra's rapier, sticking out her tongue in mockery of the swordswoman's slow strike. "Have ta do better'n that!" Ducking around behind Viktorra, the halfling drew another dagger as she moved to stab the both of them into her opponent's side. Viktorra turns with her opponent, the two of them locked into a bladed dance. The halfling's knives are quick... but not quick enough! With a slight turn of her rapier and a flourishing sweep, Viktorra sends one of the daggers skittering across the floor. The halflings' eyes turn on her with subdued rage.

As Suny unleashes a blind fury of her own, the entangled half-orc manages to half-dodge half-fall away from most of the blow. Keeping to his feet, the bruised lummox tosses another center-mass punch her way. Suny very nearly avoids the blow... but it catches her along the lowest rib in her side. Already she could feel the bruise welling up...

Suny takes 5 nonlethal damage!

The half-orc's wet and tired twin stomped back into range of Bellamy. Growling like a beast - perhaps he was more full-blooded than the other - he lifts his hammer and brings it down on Bellamy's head full force. The impact very nearly knocks the blind man to the ground. Blood begins to seep from the head wound, but there are no eyes for it to impair. To the half-orc's chagrin, Bellamy stays standing and grinning with all of his usual charm.

Bellamy takes 9 points of damage!

Off to the side, Nhati puts her freshly prepared magic missile to use. The two bolts of arcane power zip across the battlefield and sear through Huldren's armor as though it weren't even there. The bruised, bloodied, and blinded man looks as though he is on his last legs, but that does little to stop him. Huldren howls with rage, turning on Reijo with all of his anger...

Once again, just a single round of blind.

After another shout of not-so-subtle misdirection, the half-orc in front of Bellamy spins in place as his not-so-bright brain struggles to process the moment. Bellamy takes great advantage of the moment to clunk him over the head once more. All the while, cheers go up through some of the women in the crowd - all now shouting Reijo's name. Apparently Bellamy had started something.

The smallest fighter grimaces as she glances from Viktorra to the rest of the arena - where her crew wasn't doing particularly well. She glared up at Viktorra, then spit on one of her four feet. Pulling another dagger to replace the one she'd lost she flipped it around in her off-hand to play defense. Brushing away one of Viktorra's blows, the halfling then ducks under her feet and stabs a dagger into the back of Vik's heel... Only for the heel to go up in a puff of smoke. The halfling nearly loses her balance from the sudden emptiness where her dagger just struck. "Bah, frickin' magic tricks!"

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Ever wanted to taste the life of a pirate without that whole 'scurvy swab' experience when signing on as a fresh and prospective pirate? Then fret no longer, for Plunder and Peril has arrived to ease your piratical itch without driving you mad with the rigors of everyday sailing life. Nothing but guts, gold, and glory await thee on this adventure!

Then read on for Plunder and Peril!

It is the eve of the Rum Punch festival in the town of Lilywhite. A ceremony celebrating the Lucky Drunk in all of his typical festiveness, it attracts not only pirates from across the Shackles, but travelers from across the Inner Sea seeking a taste of the pirate lifestyle (or at least a good pirate party). Whether you are one of these travelers, or a native of Motaku Isle, or perhaps an out-of-work pirate who's found himself at Rum Punch, one thing is for certain: no festival of Cayden Cailean ever passes without great adventure and amusement... and who knows what kinds of treasures may turn up in a town full of drunks hoping to get lucky?

Character creation:
- 20 point buy, 4th level.
- Core Races preferred, but any race can be accepted. Just make sure you have a backstory to justify that half-tiefling half-tengu half-cat half-brick character!
- Any class except summoner is allowed (sorry guys, I hate summoners). I'm on the fence about allowing the Occult Playtest classes, so if you think you can convince me, go for it.
- 2 Traits. I'm willing to reflavor a campaign trait if there is one that fits your character concept, just ask. You can take an additional drawback+trait if desired.
- Given the context of the adventure, evil alignments will be considered – just don't play a total and complete jerk. Jerks are not accepted :)
- Appropriate starting wealth for 4th level PCs (6000 gp)
- Max HP at first, Average+1 on subsequent levels.
- Backstories are appreciated, but don't feel compelled to write a novel (unless you really want to). You can keep your background as brief as you like it, just be sure to have some reason to be in Lilywhite and have a general taste for adventure!

Other Stuff:
- Players should be able to post at least once a day on most days, and at least once on weekends. We all know life comes up and things happen, but if you disappear for multiple days at a time with no notice, that's a big no-no.
- Anything Paizo is good to go. 3rd Party content will be considered on a case by case basis.
- I prefer running cinematic combat, but if a grid is really needed I'll provide it. I find that using grids and maps slows down the game far more than necessary, so I'll try to avoid using them for combat as much as possible.
- Generally looking for flavor and RP over strategic genius. Minmaximus the Mighty may be a god in his own right, but he'll also pretty much be ignored if there's no flavor or background backing him up.

I'm looking to get 5-6 players together. I'll keep recruitment open for a week, closing on 12/15. Feel free to throw any questions my way!

Hey folks, this is an alias of FratManCy.

I hereby present Setzer Arroyo, a fetchling investigator.

Formerly a diplomat, Setzer turned towards piracy to bring himself closer to long lost magical artifacts and items.

He's got a tool for every problem, and an answer to any question. He's charming, intellectual, and a team player which would allow him to join any party as their support.

If you've any questions, feel free to pm me. His stats and crunch are completely done in his profile, so take a look ;).

Path of War?

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32

I haven't actually used Path of War myself yet, but I don't see a reason to disallow it.

I'm interested, though I have no concept as of yet. I'll start digging around and see what I can come up with.

And for the inspiration of anyone who is making a character, here is Drunken Sailor by the Storm Weather Shanty Choir.

Definite interest. Will you be handing out PFS chronicles at the end Helio?

Do you know if there is a lot of aquatic adventuring going on, sailing and what not?

Thinking about a Catfolk/Vishkanya Swashbuckler(Whirling Dervish). Perhaps a less rare race if I can't fit them in story-wise, but since I play PFS so much I kinda get tempted by playing a rarer race :).

Ahoy! Considering a Cleric of Urgathoa who is undercover and looking for opportunities to enrich herself and her faith.

Do you have any problems with firearms? What about non-gunslinger archetypes that grant them?

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32

@Jolly Roger - I don't know anything about running PFS games, so I won't be handing out chronicles or running PFS rules. There is some seafaring and aquatic adventuring, but nothing to the extent of the Skull and Shackles adventures. Things like Profession (sailor) may still come in handy, but they won't be essential. This module is designed to allow anyone to dabble in the life of a piratical adventurer, rather than force you take up the whole lifestyle like S&S.

@Nohwear - Early firearms are fine, whether they're on a gunslinger or a wannabe-gunslinger. No modern guns.

Ah shucks :/.

You don't have to bother with any specific rules. It's just the filling in of the sheets and registering them online.

Helio, do you have a rough estimate of how much combat versus role-play there will be? I find I like more RP than combat, and want to make sure that if I take any profession that it will be used. I like skills that are not always used, but not all games have opportunities for them.

Dotting with extreme interest! Willem was made for a Skull & Shackles game but I'm in the process of converting him to 4th level and changing the background slightly.

He's an aasimar that doesn't know it (scion of humanity racial trait) and I have kept the barroom talespinner trait as it meshes with his background; I hope both of these are ok with your selection criteria.

I'll finish the conversion (mainly just buying equipment and adding more flavour to background) in the next couple of days.

Dotting for interest.

Character concept subject to changes in the next days.

Apperance: Andrea is a slender woman of about middling height and weight with pale skin that has been roughened by life at sea. Her blond hair is cut short and kept under a kerchief and she has a rather decorative serives of tattos across her skin that combines waves,skulls and ghostly figures. Andrea says that it has taken numerous sessions to get the work done and might just add some more. She is often dressed in plain tunic and breeches along with sturdy boots. When attending to medical duties, she wears a clean but stained smock with numerous pockets and scrupelously sharp tools.

History: Andrea was born the child of a Bloodmother, a woman whose function was to bear children for the church of Urgathoa for the purposes of sacrifice or induction into the faith. Just like her mother, Andrea had no last name since it was deemed unneeded for her role as acolyte.
Andrea's life in the church was notable since she took to the appriciation of undeath not as the dirt,mold and gore spattered stereotype of ghouls and zombies, but the clean,polished lines of bone. Andrea appriciates a fine feast but channels her desires into finely crafted meals and liquers, abodes are clean and quiet,(except for the occasional moan) with neat racks of skulls, bones and workshops of meticulously cared for equipment.
The elders of the church believed that Andrea would best be served as an emmisary and infiltraitor and thus she was sent to establish a foothold in areas where her faith was not prominate. She was told not to spread disease or undeath, not to preach to the masses or commit atrocity, but to seek to establish herself in a position to allow others to safely spread throughout the region. Becoming a figure of influence would work perfectly, so she was sent to The Shackles to find these oppurtunities. During her cover as a healer who actually performed healing, births and other aiding of customers, she aided others of her faith by getting them onto ships bound for the Shackles. During a layover in Lilywhite, she became aware of the Rum Punch Festival and decided to sate her hungers at the Rum Punch.

Well, I'm interested. I'd like to play a swashbuckler (what else in a pirate campaign?), though I haven't decided whether it'll be an archetype (musketeer) or vanilla; Human or half elf, or anything else really.

Would like a swashbuckler too, but i´m afraid there´ll be an armada of it^^

just to be clear... This is Not a Skull and Shackles game correct?

Dotting for interest. Thinking of a Half-Elf Rogue (Pirate archetype) or a Half-Elf Ranger (Freebooter). Will work up a character. :)

Half-Catfolk? ("A Sailor/Pirate has a wife/husband in every ports, even if he/she is exotic.") ... mostly catfolk trait, but Human heritage for stats adjustments.

Would the Generic Classes from UA be allowed if converted? (just synch HD size to BaB.)

Edward Sobel wrote:

It's this module, not Skull & Shackles. And FWIW, it's not yet sanctioned for PFS play. I hope it is soon though!

Here is a submission for a brawler. Punching things, close weapon fighting ,etc. sound pirate-y to me, without doing the swashbuckler route.

I'll get the backstory out up shortly.

Thanks for the consideration. If you have any questions or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks.

Hey-YA there. I is a Elf with tha' 'Ocean' type of back ground. I can be a rilly gooder scout an' searcher an' stuffs.

Hey DM,

I'd like to be considered for a spot. I'm brewing up a character and will write up a proper fluff (appearance, background, and personality).

Here's the concept so far:

- half-elf (human father from Aspis Consortium Agent, elf mother from Ekujae tribe);
- father hires mother as guide for a jungle trek (later fall in love during expedition);
- expedition was routed by demon-worshiping halflflings (father is killed but pregnant mother escapes and makes it back to jungle elves);
- PC is born and 'reluctantly' raised by elven tribe;
- as he comes of age, he knows that he isn't wanted and is more of a shame for his mother;
- mother tells him that his father was 'important agent' from trading company;
- not wanted by elven tribe, PC sets off to find his 'human family', ventures to close to coast and is caught by Katapesh slaving ship;
- PC spends a few years as a slave but is later rescued by 'good pirates', PC later joins pirate crew;
- mechanically, PC will have a 1st level as barbarian to reflect his tribal training and later take 3 levels of rogue (pirate days);
- PC will concentrate heavily on physical skills (acrobatics, climb, etc.); and
- personality-wise, PC will be free loving pirate, adverse to slavers, and will sometimes play at being a 'noble heir'.

Before I develop this further, is there anything in there that concerns you or needs changing?

Thanks for the input.

Game on!

How about a bard who is looking to join up with some pirates to expand his experience to work on new and interesting music pieces.

He is an artist, a scholar, happy go lucky type.

I picture him playing a fiddle.

CG for sure so he may not be up for unnecessary wet work. Not sure how that would work out, but it seems the game is not an evil module.

Oh! Here be a better Suny..

Not like t'other Suny...

But a Suny who be more'n gooder fer maybe takin' on'a adventure with.

@GMV - Like most modules, there will be plenty of places to flex martial muscle. Unlike some modules, there will also be a plethora of awesome places to RP. There's a great cast of characters and a very cool setting and story to interact with. I can't guarantee that Profession (basket weaver) will come in particularly useful, but there will be plenty of places to try.

@Viluki - Read the thread :) I already okayed it! Path of War away!

@Edward - It's as michaelane said - Plunder and Peril is a module of its own. There will be plenty of opportunities to be piratical, but you're never asked to straight up murder, steal, or pillage. As a result you'd probably be more likely to see a paladin join the adventures of Plunder and Peril... but they'd still be a pretty significant rarity, I imagine.

@Alex - I don't see anything particularly egregious there, so I'll allow it.

@Fabian - Looks fine!

@The Goblin - Correct, you're not going to be forced to do anything evil. You might have the opportunity arise, but unlike S&S you're never 100% tried and true ship-raiding town-plundering pirates. All the seafaring adventure of the Shackles with none (okay, maybe some) of the moral guilt!

Awesome to see so much interest so quickly! Keep those submissions coming!

Also, anyone volunteering as the list-compiler guy? Organization is not my strong suit. (Don't judge ;.;)

Apperance: Andrea is a slender woman of about middling height and weight with pale skin that has been roughened by life at sea. Her blond hairis cut short and kept under a kerchief and she has a rather decorative serives of tattos across her skin that combines waves,skulls and ghostly figures.

Also, anyone volunteering as the list-compiler guy? Organization is not my strong suit. (Don't judge ;.;)

Sadly I am soon to be shackled to work. Not that my organization skills are anything at all...

Sorry, not time to work out which are 'people' and which are "Avatars". Though a lot are obvious.

Another player and I from a slow and dying Skull & Shackles game are definitely interested! Reijo Ilvonen (this profile) is an angry veteran o' the seas, and I'll let "No-Eyes" Bellamy introduce himself. We developed a fun piratey repore with each other in that game and really enjoyed roleplaying with each other, but we're down to two players and the GM seems to be spotty with us.

To see our roleplaying styles, feel free to peruse our gameplay thread, though we actually started roleplaying in the recruitment thread, and carried over into the discussion thread before starting in the gameplay.

I will review your requirements more thoroughly and adapt as needed. I just wanted to state our shared interest for now, if you'll have the two of us together. :)

*Hugz Reijo* Sorry I am t'be hearin' yer game be slow.

Much cheers ta' all.

The stats are up on Andi's profile. I will work on the backstory/fluff in the meantime. :)

May I present to you, the most dashing, fearless and cantankerous goblin bard you have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Grepplin the Great Goblin Bard.

He fights with rapier (really a human stiletto with a makeshift guard)while playing a bandy jig on his violin while hurling insults and jabbing jokes.

I am working on all his little personality traits, but I am really excited about trying out this character. He has a level of rogue for a bit of survivability and to enable me to play him the way I envision him. He offers the party buffs, a bit of utility, ranged support and comedic relief.

please critique or make suggestions.

"Hee,hee! That be a right polite speech Reijo boy! Mighty kind o' ye ta introduce me like ya did!" No-Eyes cackled from across the table.
It's hard to tell who he's talking to, what with the patches across both eyes.
He leaned back in his chair and blew a smoke ring, then drew on his pipe again.
"Say, did ye ever find yer tobakkey pouch?" He grinned as he wondered aloud, smoke drifting from his lips.

A tan man with piercing blue eyes and long black hair scowls at the blind sailor, an expression that seems to come... too naturally to him. He blows smoke from a billiard-shaped pipe in Bellamy's direction as a response to his question.

In a gravelly deep voice, "Say Blindey, did ye ever finds that... oh waits, ne'er ye mind... yer deadlights be as dim as yer bloody dungbie hole!" Coughing and hacking accompany the gruff sailor's hearty laughter at his blind friend's expense. Perhaps the man's lungs would be better off had the man lost his "tobakkery" pouch for good...

Pirate Speak:

Deadlights = Eyes
Dungbie = Rear end

To the cheery blond elf, the man looks her up and down lasciviously. With a smirk more frighteningly mad than the charming intent behind it, "Aye, ye salty lass, methanks ye heartily. P'raps ye may let's me show ye jus'how much me thanks ye in me quarters, eh..."

At work

*Giggles*

"Here? I be thinkin' a quarter were a type o' coin? Ye s'posed ta' go ta' temple fer that sort'a thing." (^_^)

Liberty's Edge

Starfinder Superscriber

I want to submit Nhati, Mwangi Arcanist as a character for this game. I'll create a messageboard alias if this character is accepted into the game.

Description: A tall, wiry thin Zenj woman, typically dressed in leggings and an armless top, with a bandanna wrapped around the top of her head-- as if to advertise that she were a pirate.

Familiar: Nhati's familiar is a parrot by the name of Tai. Tai will fly about and land wherever, but also spends a fair amount of time sitting on Nhati's shoulder, greatly increasing her "pirate" appearance. Tai speaks polyglot, and often pretends to be "just" a parrot despite his familiar-level intelligence. When talking to Nhati, he tends to be snarky and sarcastic. She's a little afraid of just how mouthy her familiar might get as his intelligence grows with her increasing power.

Nhati is a sailor (and sometime pirate) and a worshipper of Cayden Cailean, eagerly looking forward to the Rum Punch festival.

Background:

She was born in Nantambu. From a young age, she showed an arcane talent, unsurprising given that her father was a wizard and her mother a sorcerer. She studied at the Magaambya, but proved to have too much wanderlust to stay there for long. Falling in with a good friend, half-elf bard and follower of Caiden Calean by the name of Kazandu, she left Nantambu and travelled ot Katapesh, beginning the life of an adventurer.

Since then, she has wandered the southern Inner Sea region, practicing her magic but also serving on any number of ships. She served as a crew member on merchant ships, but has also served with some pirates and privateers. (She much prefers the "pirates with a heart of gold" types like Torius Vin to the "wanton murder and pillage on the high seas" types that are more common, but has once or twice had to swallow her pride.

She's served as a sailor on ships. Sometime she conceals her arcane arts, but more often she will reveal them and use them to assist her in her job to aid the rest of the crew.

Stats and character sheet:

Full character sheet here

I'm still working on getting a character image, but I will get one. I also still have to purchase inventory.

Reijo scratches his bearded chin in admiration of the lovely lass's features. Smirking still, he pats his belted coin purse to assure the blond elfmaiden he indeed has coins, whatever she prefers to call them.

"Ye goes ta temple fer that now does ye? Jus'ye show me th'way, ye saucy pries'ess. I be feelin' real pious, fancy me some worship right 'bout now I wud..."

"Reijo looks at Sunny like piece of meat yes's! Like a piece of elfy sweet meats she is. Infused with dandelions and oh so tender. Heshk heshk heshk!"

I'm definitely interested.

Give me some time to come up with something, please.

Sunny jumps at the small, squeaky voice which issues from some where in the room.

Ah! Grindy-lily!" She looks around,

Perception:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Peering eventually at Grepplin.

"Here.... " She actually steps closer and leans down to get a better look at the effluvient Goblin.

"Ye in't all... tentacly...." She scratches her head in obvious puzzlement.
