They've had months and they're pretty capable individuals. Probably exaggerated a bit though :P

Aisha smiles. "It's good to see you, ya young hothead." Her smile turns to a scowl. "Broken from the fight and the swim. If I had a proper engineer and some tools I could fix it, but on this deserted shithole they're as good as clubs."

Hearing the woman’s voice is a visible comfort for the big bull.

”Well you’re in luck. There’s a girl with me on the Storm – Rilka. She’s one of the friends I made while I was wanderin’ around the f*@%ing continent tryin’ to get back to all of you. She’s got one of those fire-sticks and I’m sure she’s got the tools you’d need to fix yours up.”

Staring into the gem and the gathered crowd, an idea springs into Bjorkus’s head.

”Do you mind steppin’ away from the others for a bit? I’ve got a bit of a mystery and I could use your advice”, he explains.

Assuming she does it:

”Luthor tells me Ragnar died coverin’ your escape when you and the others went overboard. You remember seein’ that? The thing is, he’s here now. He helped me take back the ship from Blakros and has been helpin’ me around the ship gettin’ her ready to come look for all of you. He showed me under his armor. A hit like the one Luthor described shoulda killed him or at the very least left a nasty scar. I was thinkin’ he was a some kinda ghost – like out of the stories he used to tell but if he is he’s a really solid soddin’ ghost.”

”One way or another, somethin’s goin’ on here. I’m worried by bringin’ the Storm your way I might be puttin’ you or her in more danger.”

"If you couldn't have traveled that far in less than a day, the best way to find you as it stands would be to take the ship there and make a spiral until you're found. My geography of the area isn't good enough to know every little island, but I would guess some of the local cartographers would have them charted."

Dalton does know of the port where the ship left, however. He estimated the time needed to go there aboard the ship given its size and currents.

Is this out of the way of Dalton's quest?

Ninnec:
"Ninnec, it looked like business has been going well. Better than I would've expected, actually. It's not the reason I'm touching base presently, but if your current rate of affairs is any indicator, you may be able to expand before too long!"

The wizard coughs a bit. "Anyways, Bjorkus has reclaimed his ship. Some of the "crew" were released, but others had no real home. There is a lizard-man aboard that falls into that group. He's definitely not the sharpest sword in the smithy, but he doesn't seem opposed to the idea of tough jobs for a few coins; after all, he did work under this crazed captain for quite some time until Bjorkus reclaimed the ship. To my knowledge, he also did it for free. I was thinking he could he could make an exceptionally-strong enforcer for you, working on the cheap and easy to track. What do you think?"

Hahaha, nope. The scrying spell is focused on Luthor, no privacy from him.

Edit: Geography is used, woohoo!

Dalton further pinpoints down where the location is by the shape of the beaches and the reported weather. He has no pinpoint location, but he probably just cut down on hours or even days of searching.

To the contrary, it's on the way. You just have to swing up a bit farther north, but at most it would add 1 day to a 3 week trip.

Sure but once she’s targeted with message he’d have to actively listen to overhear what’s being said to her. She could move a bit away and still be within the scrying field of few.

Edit: Okay, not that far. =P

Okay. Do see the spoiler for Ninnec I edited-in to my above post as well.

Dalton turned to Bjorkus. "After looking at the way the weather and erosion of the island has occurred, it would seem it is not part of a low-rising chain, but rather a steeper formation with rocks beneath the surface. In other words, you're looking for an island with some height in the center that isn't within sight of any others. Hope that helps." He paused. "And, if you're interested in reclaiming some of your lost fortunes, this sort of island usually has some type of interesting rock at its core. Unlikely - though possibly - gold or copper, but chance would fall easier on iron or quicksilver."

No hating on geography! I had a Carmen Sandiego-esque character a while ago. She put it to good use! Also, Carmen is probably the best villanness ever.

Actually, since scrying forces you to point at the target as the somantic component, you do need to have the target within the radius of the clairvoyance portion of the scry.

Ah, but the limits of scrying are essentially a 10 foot radius on the person being scryed upon. Being that close, you would basically have to ask Luthor to plug his ears. Which you can absolutely do! It might just be awkward to explain it, like if I posted something under a spoiler in discussion and told you not to read it.

Dalton:
"Indeed, indeed! I am flourishing in the building economy here, and I'm getting in with everybody on the ground level. Truly much easier than integrating into a preestablished location." He smiles. "I actually already have plans to expand the building, turning it into a bit of a casino too."

He listens closely to the rest of Dalton's message. "Hmm, as much as I hate to admit it sometimes there is little substitute for strong, brutal men who know how to throw their weight around. However I don't like hiring people I don't know, especially angry killer types. However I also trust your judgement." He gnaws on the idea for a few moments. "Yeah, I think I'll give him a chance. Worst case scenario I could direct him to the fighting pits if things didn't work out, since free men are fighting there now."

Please see my above post about scrying. The problem is if that person is not the target but is getting the check, whomever the target actually is must be able to hear for free unless they are plugging their ears or whatnot.

Luthor gives a confused look. "What's the mystery Bjorkus?"

Dalton:
Ninnec nods. "I have contacts there since it's part of Targ's territory, although there are unfortunately no ports at all on the southern edge of Yenrick. It shouldn't be a problem to pay some men to go south and pick him up though, just drop him off in a dingy."

"Ragnar being on the ship and... well alive", Bjorkus explains.

He looks to the distant Aisha awaiting her answer.

One caster cannot support multiple private conversations with the message spell.

"What? That old bastard's alive? I'll be damned, how'd he survive that?"

Aisha shakes her head in disbelief. "I saw the same thing Luthor did, Ragnar got his chest caved in by an axe blow from Blakros. No man survives that kind of wound."

Bjorkus had mentioned earlier that Ragnar was on the ship to Luthor.

”So what should I do? I don’t think he’s a ghost and he’s actin’ just like the Ragnar I’ve always known. He helped us capture Blakros and take back the Raging Storm.”

Bjorkus shakes his head in confusion. ”We’ve had stowaways before but never somethin’ like this.”

That was generic commentary from the crew. Sorry for not clarifying.

The entire crew looks dumbfounded.

Chubwart - "We all saw it Bjorkus, his chest looked like a split open clam."

Opal - "I remember how quiet he was when he died, still hurts me to see that mouth not making any sound."

Axen - "Well f!*~ off it than, if he's alive he's alive. Maybe we all went sea-mad that night."

Dalton waited until Bjorkus was in-between messages. "Actually, we did know one person who survived wounds like that. Think back to Akropash."

No issue.

The following is for everybody during the scry on Luthor. The scry on Ninnec will not be effected by this.

Perception DC 15:
There's suddenly a loud commotion just outside the captain doors, including some dull shouts and drawn steel.

Dalton shook his head as Bjorkus dashed to respond to the interruption.

"It seems some issue has arisen aboard Bjorkus needs to tend to. We'll be in touch in a day or two."

Allowing the scrying to expire, Dalton hefted his gem. What the devil was that? He walked to the deck of the ship to find-out.

Toramin invited the Pech to come oversee and revitalize the mining operations of Akropash. He got his grandmother to invest in the Akropash renewal. Lots of money to be made that way.

Bjorkus kicks open the door and sees a baffling sight. Ragnar is standing at the far back end of the boat, waving a cutlass in front of him at the rest of the crew who look confused and scared and angry. Two of the new recruits have some cuts on them while another one is halfway decapitated. He gives a twisted grin as he locks gazes with Bjorkus. "It's a shame Bjorkus! I really wanted to slit your throat in your sleep and see the look in your eyes! Another day!" And with that he falls backward off the boat, plunging into the water, hours from shore.

Dalton heard the comments, but arrived too late to see the man plunge into the water. The splash was the only evidence he had of his departure.

The wizard hurried over to the side to look for the culprit of the violence.

Over the side are the ripples from Ragnar dropping into the water, but the man is nowhere to be seen. No surprise there though, the waters here aren't very clear.

Ianna's healing quickly seals the wounds of the two injured men, but unfortunately has no effect on the grisly remains of the third.

At this point the crew begins to panic. Kal looks in shock and the rest start yelling in confusion and anger, pointing fingers. Clearly Blakros did not run a very organized ship. Traz peers hatefully into the water.

Kal looks at Bjorkus with a look of horror. "He...he bit the man's neck off. With his teeth. Like an animal." he says in quiet shock.

Ianna's inspection of the man's throat confirms that this is definitely a bite that did the damage. The rest of the crew agrees as they continue to shout and try to establish understanding.

"like a maid havin' her first blood". I'm going to use that haha.

Bjorkus's loud, commanding voice demands the attention of the men who are quickly brought to attention. There's still a shifty look or two down at the water, but they snap to follow the orders. Kal slowly walks up to the wheel, hand on his head. "Bit his neck...bit his freakin' neck..."

Rilka says, ”Why else reveal himself now? Did those three crewmates get suspicious of him? Is that why he attacked them? We need to question the two survivors, find out what precipitated the attack. It might help if you tell the crew to stand about where they were when the attack happened — thought I guess they are right now. We can get a sense of who were the best witnesses. I’ll check his berth. Maybe he left something behind. It’s possible he’ll return or damage the rudder. I’ll make some extracts for swimming in case we need to inspect the hull.”

So check the hammock (sea chest?) Ragnar used. Talk to the two survivors asking what they saw Ragnar do, why he attacked them, where was him when Bjorkus and the party were scrying. She’ll also talk to the longest serving crew on the ship. Was Ragnar with the ship when Blakros hired these men on? If not, where did he come from?

Ooh, very intuitive Rilka. Very well done indeed.

Bjorkus comes back up to see Rilka playing theater with his sailors. Placing them around the ship and turning them at certain angles, setting the stage to reenact the scene. It's rather comical to see the bunch of hardened killers being pushed around by the little halfling.

However her little stunt pays off. One of the men comes to a realization that he hadn't thought was important. "You know, Ragnar was leaning right up against the captain's door before he went crazy. I think I heard the mage-er, Dalton say something right before he started cutting. I think he might have been eavesdropping and something Dalton said made him do that."

She also finds out that Ragnar was on the ship before any of them.

"Immortals? Regeneration? What are you speaking about?"

Ianna frowns. Her brother and his friends had clearly left important details out of their story.

”Ever since Andril”, Bjorkus explains shaking his shaggy head. ”Mad men keep showin’ up with a talent for not-dyin’. The first one we met survived havin’ his head nearly hacked off and bein’ immersed in f%*$ing molten lava. There was another one in Akropash – a witch. Your brother caved her skull in a half dozen times but he couldn’t kill her. We had to settle for puttin’ her in shackles and handin’ her over to folks that can keep her locked up.”

Rilka says, ”I think he might have been Toramin. I’m reminded of your sword’s reforging Captain. When you saw a single lizard-like eye and it talked about your destiny. Some forces are interested in you. Perhaps Ragnar’s ‘double’ was sent to manipulate you into fulfilling your destiny or try to stop you.”

We're meeting in private, right? Just making sure & stage dressing the theater of the mind.

Remember that Ianna is not an Aestheric, so you have to make choices on how much information to share with her.

I assume that you're all in the captain's quarters and speaking in private.

I thought Toramin already told her everything.

”This all f!!@ing stinks”, Bjorkus rumbles unhappily. ”How long have they watchin’ me?”

”As much as I hate the sod’s guts, I think we should contact Heff. He has a tendency to know everything even if he’s not tellin’. If this thing can wear anyone’s skin we’re gunna need a way to pick him out.”

"He won't wear Ragnar's again, and he has two choices: assail you disguised or assail you overtly. His skill is such he could seem to be any one of us. In the latter case, it hardly matters. Since we clearly can't kill whatever it is, and I can't imagine that person you mentioned," Dalton intoned, indicating his lack of preference it be revealed in the current audience, "lifting a finger to help, it likely makes no difference.

He looked at the ceiling. Oddly, I miss the stone of Toramin's manor. "Besides, wouldn't you rather have them need something from us for a change? After grinding coppers about teleportation, to consider us expected to return to them forthwith bearing pages of information seems a touch obsequious."

His glance fell on Rilka. "Though I tried to think of a way to absolve myself of this line of thought, I cannot: "Ragnar" burst into a fury as soon as I spoke, according to the sailors. Miss Featherfeet, we would not have discovered that very important fact without your recreation of the scene with the crew." Dalton swallowed. "The only motive that makes sense for such an outbreak, to ruin one's carefully positioned undercover persona, is to trump a greater threat. That would be me connecting the dots to the immortality we saw in Akropash."

Dalton looked down at his worn copper ring. "This leaves two reasonable explanations: Either "Ragnar" knew of our exploits somehow, or," he paused, ""Ragnar", formerly known as Acera, escaped The Fourth Room."

I shudder to think about the power that could exempt itself form Alia's domain.

"I apologize for putting you in danger with my speech."
