"Yeah, I'm glad Akropash is free. Free of slavery, free of Targ, and free of his mad witch. I woulda died to see it done - I nearly did a few times - but I'm not a spy and I'm not one of your soldiers. I don't want a legacy made outta lies. The price did not phase Dalton, who'd spent manyfold that amount over in the previous days. [b]"That's all? What about for the shop itself, plus a little extra to move somewhere nice?"

Bjorkus Day 7:
"You just said it." He waves a hand out over the celebration. "All of this is because of your efforts. Without you and your team, this wouldn't have been possible. That's what we take pride in here. I'd crawl through mud and eat s#+# for the world to see as long as the endgame was met. Look at what Akropash was before you came here, and what it is now. That's because of you. And yeah, we told some lies to make it possible. That will always be a part of it. It's not about how you feel at the end of the day, it's about how you've helped shape the world."

Dalton Day 4:
He shakes his head, giving Dalton a suspicious look. "My family has owned this place for three generations, I'm not for selling it."

Day 4:
"That's understandable. You know, if my family owned such a bountiful establishment, I'd probably feel the same way." Dalton took a moment to take in the hustle of the place. "I imagine with the rulers ruined, lots of people will want to celebrate. It's one of the reasons I was considering the barrels. Would you happen to have a deliveryman?"

Bjorkus Day 7:
Krokar frowns. "No. You're not." He stands up and walks to the entrance of the tent, drawing it closed. "We're going to figure this out." He sits back down. "You don't have confidence in your strength anymore. I can get that. I'd beat any one of the other council members in a wrestling contest, but half of them are still far deadlier and more influential than I am." He leans back, staring into Bjorkus's eyes. "Bjorkus you're twice the man you were when we picked you up in Xilres. It's just that you're no longer sheltered in an environment where brawn is on top, and you're learning that you didn't know s$++ about the world before. You've gotten stronger, and you're getting smarter because you realize there are more powerful forces than you out there. We could get your ship back and cut ties there, and in weeks you would be a powerful pirate captain, maybe even a lord. You'd be on top of that world and feel as if all was right in the world."

He bangs his fist on the table. "Except it's not! Because you would have given up the chance to make the world a better place because you don't feel like you're worth it anymore! You've done more in the last month than the rest of your life, yet you're not half as confident in yourself." He snorts and spits. "I was picked up from a guild of mercenaries where I put steel in men for nothing more than coin. Spent ten years of my life that way, and all I did was make more bloodshed. Oh I was a proud bastard too, in five years I was in charge of the guild, swimming in gold and women and oozing self confidence." He grimaces. "I was a bloody fool. I wasn't half as strong or wise as I am now, but I believed I could move mountains if I tried. But all I really was, was the best at gutting people in the area. A pretty pathetic title if you look at it."

He points back out at the celebration. "You've just freed a city from an evil and twisted tyranny, and thousands are celebrating with your name on their lips. For generations to come, you will be remembered because you allowed all of these people and their children and their children's children to live in freedom." He stands. "I don't know about you, but I'm pretty damn f$!&ing proud of that. And even though I wasn't down there fighting Targ or Acera toe to toe, I know my efforts here made a difference and my strength saved lives. But I didn't do half of what you did here." He goes over to the flap of the tent. "You've just changed history. This is something that will effect the lives of millions, something the bards will sing about for ages to come, and something the scribes will immortalize in their history books. It's more than you've done in the rest of your life, so take some f&@#ing pride that your strength allowed you to do that." He opens the flap. "Now you're dismissed, if you don't want to talk anymore."

Dalton Day 4:
"Uhh, sure. I can get a few strong backs. Where do you want them?"

~~~~~Grand Tour, Day 17~~~~~
Rilka watches Toramin’s fight with trepidation that quickly explodes into awe. With the death of the giant, her eyes focus on the ice trolls. She relaxes when they flee north, but can’t deny a slight foreboding of what they may bring in the future.
”I have enough magical reserves to make one more shield today. One minute and then we can make haste.”
Akropash Day 7:
Bjorkus listens to most of the half-orc's pep talk. There was some merit to what he was saying. Bjorkus knew he'd made a bigger impact on the world in the short time he'd been with the Aestherics than the rest of his years at sea and, assuming he didn't die along the way, there was no doubt he'd do a lot more in the future. He might stop a dozen more wars and tear down ever more tyrants but would any of it really be his doing or would it just be more colorful lies? Being a good-looking puppet wasn't good enough anymore.
Besides, anything Krokar said was suspect now. He was no better than Heff. Bjorkus stands to leave.
"I don't give a s!#+ about bard songs, scribe's history books, or who's names are on their lips out there. If you'd heard a word I said you've understand that. I want something I've done here to be real and if I can't have Targ, or Acera, or even the soddin' revolution, you've gotta give me somethin'."
Bjorkus Day 7:
Now Krokar looks in amazement. "You think what you've done here isn't real? You thing the fall of Targ and Acera or the revolution wasn't your doing? I can't even comprehend your reasoning for that." He shakes his head. "What is it you want Bjorkus, why all the defeatism? Do you want your team to be "Bjorkus and friends", making sure that you always deliver the killing blow and that you're the one doing everything while they're just support? Rilka's twice as intuitive as you'll ever be, and three times the spy. Dalton's intellect is eons past yours and he will deal with problems you can never comprehend. Toramin is stronger in a straight up fight." He puts a finger in Bjorkus's chest. "You're a champion. You're somebody who inspires others and shows what bravery and sacrifice is. You weren't within miles of these ex slaves, but they fought against impossible odds because they knew you were fighting for them. You think a few rumors can do that? No, we only spread what you had started. Our rumormongers were just a tool for your heroism to spread farther and faster, because without it there would be a lot more bodies being buried. You think we put you in the arena on a whim? No, we knew you could make the biggest influence, and you have the strength to back it up. We could have put Toramin or Gabriel in there, they might have fought better, but Gabriel's naive and Toramin is contemplative. Neither has the same fire or fury that you do. People divided are weak, people together are strong. You're the kind of person who brings people together."
As a famous sociologist once said, "Power is nothing but the ability to influence".
Akropash Day 7:
Bjorkus knew everything that was said about his companions was true. Toramin and Gabe were better fighters. Rilka was clever. Dalton's magic could change reality in the blink of an eye. But was he a champion? Krokar's words start to lift Bjorkus's spirits but all that does it does is help stir up the lingering doubts that had clouded his thoughts throughout the past week.
"I've heard enough..." the bull rumbles as he takes his leave.
Returning to the party Bjorkus tries to get back into the swing of the celebration but there's little joy in it.
Day 7:
As Bjorkus half-heatedly mingles, he feels a furry hand on his shoulder. "Hey, our hero!" Bjorkus turns to see Yix in more colorful silks than normal. He gives a smile and thrusts a drink into Bjorkus's hands. "Heard you were looking for me, what's up?"
As Dalton is mingling he hears a different slippery fellow. "Hey Dalton." The mage turns to see Heff, dressed in white and red silks. He gives a smile, not quite the usual smirk he gives. He asks to sit (another oddity) before sitting next to Dalton and taking a sip from his glass. Heff looks unusually pale today, especially considering the recent week spent under the sun. "Krokar informs me that you've recently been curious about the origins of the Aestherics. He didn't send me your way, but it piqued my curiosity. What is it you would like to know?"
~The Grand Tour Day 17~
"Right. The going will be rough, but hopefully we'll avoid any ambushes set up." Viktor leads the party to the east, up a steep incline and onto a plateau. The air feels thinner than normal, and the next few hours are rough. Dalton, Rilka, and Coralla all start laboring to keep going. At the end of two hours on the plateau even Toramin is thoroughly exhausted.
Viktor tries to help those struggling, but is unable to make a difference. He looks ahead. "Damn, one more hour and we would have been off. Half of you are going to pass out, and Bjorkus and I can't carry that many. Plus we'd be sitting ducks if we were attacked."
Toramin, Rilka, and Coralla are exhausted. Dalton is fatigued. Bjorkus will truck on until the sun stops existing because his save bonus is hilarious.
Quite a sight, that.
Mesmerized by the avalanche, Dalton was snapped back to reality by Rilka's scream. "Stop, stop, STOP! I ... cannot abide ... such mayhem!" The wizard exhaled. "I do have ... a flying spell prepared that will last ... a few minutes. It can surely ... save a few of us. Moreso if ... the muscle-booster is still in effect .... Bjorkus?" Dalton looked to him as it had been a while. Maybe it's worn-off.
The duration was 16 hours, cast when we scaled the cliff via levitate.
But. he paused. "Only one such use is in my mind. I could try to push my limits and squeeze out an additional use, but I might lose the former. Take your pick. Either way, Miss Featherfeet, I believe you can be carried by Bjorkus. Coralla, are you too exhausted to fly?"
Primal magic lets Dalton perform a concentration check (DC 26) to cast fly without expending it. If I fail, I lose the spell and a primal magic event occurs; this is how the magic jar and such occurred in the past, but is was by intentional failure. I have a 65% chance of success in this regard as my spellcraft check is 19.
Note I can perform that action again (if successful the first time as I would still need a fly spell to gamble with). Assume Dalton leans for the action. In both instances.
Since I have a meeting and conferences tonight, I will be unable to post for the next 6 hours or so. Let the majority rule for the spell decisions and DMPC as needed. However, in the event some (or all) of us are left on the ground, Dalton will cast haste for 8 rounds on the party. That should give some extra leeway.
Heh, one minute. You guys have one round. While Bjorkus still has Ant Haul and can lift the weight of the party, actually carrying everybody is another matter entirely. Fly on Bjorkus. He grabs Dalton and Rilka. Everybody else grabs on to him.
Call it Female Priveldge but Bjorkus is going to grab Coralla and Rilka. Toramin might want to keep a hand on Dalton.
Borkus grabs a hold of Coralla with his other arm. "Hold on tight!"
Toramin grabs Dalton with one hand and Bjorkus's leg with the other.
"Vicktor, grab on!"
I have to congratulate you guys on making a hilarious but totally legitimate solution to a very real threat (Coralla probably would have died instantly). This is a story I'm going to talk about for a long time.
Dalton quickly touches Bjorkus, who in turn scoops up Rilka and Coralla. Toramin and Viktor each grab into Dalton with one hand, the other wrapping around Bjorkus. Coralla looks like she's about to faint from fear, but Viktor shakes his head in disbelief. "You're not just some group of travelers, are you?" And then Bjorkus takes off.
CRASH!!! The deadly avalanche rolls past, the spray of snow and ice so violent it's even felt in the air. Coralla and Rilka looks down from the safety of Bjorkus's arms. However Viktor was not prepared and loses his grip, sliding down to Bjorkus's leg before catching himself. He slips again and ends on Bjorkus's foot, and Toramin feels his shoulder pop from the strain of holding Dalton by himself, and the half elf drops! But then Viktor gets a death grip on Bjorkus's foot, grabbing Dalton with the other hand and hauling him back up with a grunt.
Shortly the avalanche passes, leaving a field of snow and ice and rocks in its wake.
From his ariel vantage point Toramin looks around to see if anybody caused the avalanche on purpose.
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
"Does anybody see a smug frost giant? If not, then that avalanche may have been a blessing. It will cover our tracks."
That perception bonus always makes me chuckle.
Viktor/Coralla: 1d20 ⇒ 31d20 ⇒ 3
"Nothing. Let's set down before I rip off Bjorkus's foot."
The adreneline was a bit much for Dalton, and he had a hard time thinking straight. Rather, as he was dangling precipitously from two dwarves, he was more thinking about how quick a death falling might be.
When he heard Tormain's shoulder pop, he shuddered.
"Blessing? Your arm is broken!" But I guess we are alive.
"Bjorkus, you've a good few minutes on that spell - try to set us down somewhere stable you can see!"
Still, in all its destruction, the avalanche was beautiful in its own way.
Vicktor is human.
"It's fine. Vicktor or Bjorkus will pop it back into place. Acera's touch hurt much worse."
Just because Viktor is hairy and tough to kill doesn't mean he's a dwarf :P
Once down on the ground Viktor grimaces. "I am sorry my friend, I am...not used to that sort of thing." He glances around for a moment, then gives Toramin a stick. "This will hurt, but it will be over quickly." He gently grabs Toramin's shoulder and arms. "On the count of three. One." Pop. The pain is searing for an instant, but as it fades the arm feels much better.
Bjorkus does his best to ignore the pain from the extreme weight dragging on one of his hooves. He looks for a safe spot to touch down and then lands.
Perception: 10 + 4 = 14
"That coulda been a lot worse. Are you girls alright? Hopefully I wasn't too rough snatchin' you up."
