Reynaldo Li |
Not quite so fast. Tell us something about you. How came you to be trapped here? And what exactly is a 'shay'?
Sense Motive (cos hey, there's a 20 on every die, right?): 1d20 ⇒ 16
Lia the Huntress |
"Look, half of the things we've come across here have tried to hurt or kill us. You'll understand if we don't jump to your aid right away."
Ares Aeroflot |
Ares will follow Reynaldo's lead as well.
"Yes, we will need to know a little more about you. You have the most to gain from being freed,
so we imagine you would be willing to answer a few questions."
sense motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Yep, sounds convincing to me. How about you vacation with me and my family next week?
Reynaldo Li |
Wife had medical emergency, everything will be okay but may not update till Wednesday.
Real Life Comes First [tm], amigo. Take care of her; we're not goin' anywhere.
GM Tektite |
No problem Rob. Hope everything is fine. Understand completely.
The cloud sighs. Shae are denizens of the plane of Shadow. I came to be here, because that fool wizard summoned me. He began asking questions about the Dark Tapestry, thinking that it was somehow linked or had a "backdoor" to the Shadow Plane. When I laughed at his at his ignorance, the wizard became enraged and imprisoned me here to punish me for mocking him."
Reynaldo Li |
Experience tells me there's plenty of madness in the world already — no need to go seeking it out, Reynaldo muses.
Laughing at your summoner seems imprudent, but I can respect your ability to see that old fool for what he was. I'm willing to release you, if I can.
If my Sense Motive didn't reveal any subterfuge, Reynaldo will look about for a key or a way to free the shae. Unless Ares intends to ask him not to.
GM Tektite |
Yep, no subterfuge. Forgot to add that.
Using one of the keys found on Hunclay, the party is able to open the cell door. "Thank you for releasing me, but I fear that is not all that is involved. I cannot pass that area of light. The wizard drew me into it on three occasions and I was drained each time. Do know of a way to suppress it? I fear if I enter the light once more, I will kill me...." She goes on in bitter tones to explain a method to extinguish the wall of light— by hurling a handful of enhanced magical dust through the wall—but adds that Hunclay told her he’d hidden his supply of this dust away in a secret cave outside of Belhaim.
Ares Aeroflot |
Did we want to do anything with the other demonite in the first room? I am fine with just leaving him to rot.
Ares will say at parting with the Shae...
"We will be back once we find this dust in the cave. Do you subsist on shadow food or ?"
Reynaldo Li |
That's...actually a very interesting point, Reynaldo muses. So we check in with the list, but let them know we still have some housekeeping to do before they go in.
GM Tektite |
The party exits the manor and informs Devy of the progress, the heads north out of town. As you travel north along the road, you see buzzards circling in the sky. As you approach the entrance of the cave, the bodies of what are probably, Hunclay’s two escaped servants lie near the shore of a small pond that runs out of a cave at the base of a 30-foot-high cliff. Both bodies have been mutilated by wild animals—little remains but their ruined gear and some scattered bones.
As the party approaches the bodies, Lao begins to growl. Suddenly you hear growls behind you and turn to see two wolves and a much larger wolf approaching!

Reynaldo Li |
Reynaldo starts as he looks behind. That's the biggest wolf I've ever seen!
Reynaldo will harge the top wolf using Pirahna Strike, and will activate Menacing Swordplay as a swift action if Rey hits.
Menacing Swordplay (Ex): At 3rd level, while she at least 1 panache, when a swashbuckler hits an opponent with a light or one-handed piercing melee weapon, she can choose to use Intimidate to demoralize that opponent (Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook 99) as a swift action instead
of a standard action.

Demoralize as swift: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Lia the Huntress |
Lao's training keeps him at Lia's side until instructed to do otherwise. He waits to chomp anything that threatens his humanoid companion.
Ares Aeroflot |
Ares will looses pair of arrows at the big wolf.

GM Tektite |
Reynaldo charges forward and stabs the northern wolf. It staggers under the blow, clearly shaken!
Lao dutifully waits for commands from his master!
Ares fires two arrows, hitting the big wolf twice!
Attack vs Reynaldo: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Trip: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Crit Confirm vs Reynaldo: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Crit Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
The northern wolf bites back, savaging Reynaldo's leg and pulling him to the ground, then falls unconscious from the effort!
Attack vs Ares: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

The other smaller wolf darts forward and gnashes its teeth at Ares, but misses, while the big wolf pounce on Reynaldo, biting him while he's down!
Party up!

Lia the Huntress |
Lia's eyes widen as Reynaldo falls to the ground. "Lao, get it!" Before the tiger rushes off, Lia fires a shot at the big wolf.
Arrow of indiscriminate colour!: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 1 - 1 = 12
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
On the orders given, Lao rushes forward to bite the large wolf.
Bite: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 2 = 25
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Assuming that hits, Lia gets a +2 bonus on her next attack roll against it. Seems she may need it. [Distracting Charge, Advanced Class Guide Playtest, p. 21]
Mr. Hammerfist |
Hammerfist will hammer away at the wolf in front of Ares before grumbling a bit and starting to move around.
Hammer Time: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11
Reynaldo Li |
Reynaldo falls prone at the wolf's bite, but in a flash is back on his feet (using 1 point of panache to Kip-Up as a swift action), five-foots between the dying sleeping wolf and the large one, and attacks with his gladius!
attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
damage: 1d6 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 4 = 11
Kip-Up (Ex): At 3rd level, as long as the swashbuckler has at least 1 panache point, she can kip-up from prone as a move action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If she spends 1 panache point when she kips up, she can do this as a swift action instead.
Precise Strike (Ex): At 3rd level, as long as she has at least 1 panache point, a swashbuckler gains the ability to strike precisely with a light or one-handed piercing melee weapon (though not natural weapon attacks), adding her swashbuckler level to her damage roll. To use this deed, a swashbuckler cannot attack with a weapon in her other
hand or use a shield other than a buckler. She can even use this ability with thrown melee light or one-handed piercing thrown melee weapons, as long as the target is within 30 feet of her. Any creature that is immune to sneak attacks is immune to a precise strike, and any
item or ability that protects a creature from critical hits also protects a creature from a precise strike. The extra damage of precise strike is precision damage, and isn't multiplied with a critical hit.
Ares Aeroflot |
Ares will 5' back and shoot at the close wolf and switch to large if first drops.
lonbbow, pa, rapid : 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 8 - 2 + 1 = 26 damage : 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5

"Wow, that was cool, Reynaldo. Now do not get knocked down again.. "
GM Tektite |
After getting knocked down, Reynaldo pops back up liked a coiled spring and chops into the large wolf!
Ares fires one arrow, dropping the smaller wolf, then puts a second arrow in the large wolf!
Attack vs Reynaldo: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Trip: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
The big wolf tries to retaliate on Reynaldo, but misses completely, obviously weakened from its many wounds!
Party up!
Big Wolf - 30
Mr. Hammerfist |
Hammerfist moves around the brush to flank with Reynaldo and tries to squish the wolf.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 9 + 2 = 26
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 = 13
Lia the Huntress |
If it still stands, Lia will fire another arrow at the large wolf.
