Small but important question: now that you're all getting ready to head out and explore, and face what the island has to offer, there will be a lot of jungle animals, some hostile, some not. Does anyone have any phobias that they'd like me to avoid? For instance, someone near and dear to me isn't the biggest fan of spiders, so I always change them to giant centipedes or something. Any requests? (Caveat: I may not be able to take out too many snakes; but then, you knew the AP was called Serpent's Skull).
Siri Quinray |
Out of character phobias, no. In character, Siri has two fears of the wilds. The first is ending up disabled and left alone. The second is skunks. Unlike other barbarians, she likes feeling clean, and will always take a few minutes every day to wash herself. It helps with hygiene and keeping animals from picking up her scent. Skunks are the antithesis of that, and Siri will go out of her way to avoid crossing paths with anything she might even think is a skunk.
Kenton Blackridge |
Nothing OOC. Kenton's only real fear is staying powerless and Cheliax getting away with what it's done. So, there you go if he ends up with fever dreams or something. Heh.
Western peninsula also sounds fine. Starting to wish I had bought Kenton a machete, but I guess his unused gladius will make a make-shift one now.
Kenton Blackridge |
So, I'm sitting here actively regretting to forget giving Kenton a shortbow. It's okay, because it's either that or actively regretting living in the midwest. Yet another killer ice storm rolling in tonight. I may lose power for a few days. Probably not, but it's always a possibility.
Just warning in case.
Paulinus Ratarion |
Not yet.
I can only have one at this level, and I was kind of waiting until we felt like more of a team.
Kenton Blackridge |
Hey. I'm not freezing to death with no power. We'll call that one a win.
GM mechaPoet |
Thanks for checking in! Yeah, these surprise rounds can be tricky for scheduling, especially when you all are level one and a lot of these tropical beasties have decent stealth modifiers.
Paulinus Ratarion |
Here. I'm a lot of games, so I usually post reactive posts though. Are we waiting on the DM to do something or an in character choice?
Siri Quinray |
It's possibly RL caught up with them. Teh GM did say they recently moved into a new apartment - could be a net problem as well. Give it time, I'm sure they'll be back soon enough.
GM mechaPoet |
Hey y'all, sorry for the absence. It's been a mix of fatigue and work and not feeling so hot, but I'll try to get some posts up soon.
Kenton Blackridge |
I'm not complaining, just wondering. Considering how I basically ditched on the RotRL game I'm in for a week straight while I studied for a big test, I'm the last person to complain about disappearing.
GM mechaPoet |
So I'm not sure where Kenton has gone. I know he's disappeared in another game I've been playing in and has had some grad school tests to prepare for/take. I sent him a PM, but if we don't hear back from him soon, we can recruit a replacement.
Paulinus Ratarion |
Apparently China (where I live) has started blocking Google Docs/Drive. So I will no longer be able to access the maps. If you'd be willing to switch to another image hosting site that would be awesome. If not I'm probably going to withdraw from the game.
Combat is where my fun is in Pathfinder, and without a tactical map it doesn't do it for me. I understand if you don't want to/can't switch sites, I probably wouldn't want to if I were DMing.
Aleris Somciel |
@Paulinus - That sucks! I do tend to agree that some sort of grid map really helps for Pathfinder since there's more focus on movement and positioning than in some of the other games I've seen.
Concerning Kenton, he might very well be taking exams since it's about that time of year for it. I *think* he also works nights sometimes and so his posting times are a little erratic because of that, as well.
Paulinus Ratarion |
I did just find this site to start using for my own games. It was very easy to sign up for with no personal info required, and super simple to use.
GM mechaPoet |
Oh man, that stinks. I'll definitely check that site out, or try to find some alternative. I don't want to lose you to technical difficulties! I'll keep you updated.
Siri Quinray |
Just for the record, Siri would never actually follow through with that kind of torment described in her threat. Torture is not pragmatic - it's simpler to just cut off her head and find someone more talkative anyways.
GM mechaPoet |
I haven't heard from Kenton, so I'm going to re-open recruitment. Before I open it to the public, were there any applicants from the first round that any of you particularly liked?
Kenton the character isn't going to disappear altogether; he'll probably just stay at camp most of the time, and if his player comes back, we can potentially reincorporate him.
Paulinus Ratarion |
If disable device is going to be useful in this campaign, then we want someone with that. Otherwise I'd say another full arcane caster would be most useful for this party. Siri brings the beef. I'm a healer/tank. Aleris should be able to handle crowd control, but she doesn't have access to the full wizard/sorc spell list. A summoner or hunter would be awesome too, bring a pet/eidolon with them.
GM mechaPoet |
Here are some of the players/characters I was considering who didn't end up being chosen. We can draw from this list for players, and then figure out if they want to keep their original character or make a new one. If no one strikes your fancy, I'll re-open recruitment.
Siri Quinray |
Barbarian, Spell Dancer Magus, Ranger, Bard, and then a Kensai Magus.
Vasily appears to be build for a Jade Regent game, but that's a minor issue - just that we already have our supporters. The others you've hand picked appear to be all melee builds. Not that I have a problem with that, just seems like you were looking for something in mind to replace Kenton's role in a way.
If I had to pick one of them, I'd probably go with Korik. It still might be better to open up recruitment at this time, but that would be my hard pressed pick.
GM mechaPoet |
Any other input? I'd like to involve you all in the selection process, but if you simply want to entrust your judgment to me and your fellow party members, that's fine too.
So far, I also like Kororinda. I think Chimalsi Kybwa'ka could be interesting too, as well as the goblin wizard Katrah that was just posted.
GM mechaPoet |
All right, I think I'll leave up recruitment until the end of the weekend. Kororinda seems like the favorite so far; how do you all feel about taking on a fifth player? You guys have been tearing through my combats, and having a fifth might be a good excuse to up the difficulty (probably just by sprinkling a few more creatures into a given fight--nothing too drastic, just improving the opponents' action economy).
At first, I made this the smaller party (the other group also has four, but they have a druid with a baby treant companion) with consideration of Paulinus' lifelink, but if he's only taking the one level of oracle, I don't think it matters that much. But anyway, let me know: four or five? I'm not partial to either, but as evidenced by my taking two groups of four instead of one of four to six, I don't like to turn down characters I like. :P
Aleris Somciel |
I tend to be of the "the more the merrier" persuasion, but only to a point. Based on what I've seen while playing PBPs, more PCs seems to mean that the action tends to keep moving even if one person is slow to post or has something come up. However I can understand why some GMs prefer to stick to just 4 PCs for the APs since that's what they're balanced for and because it can slow combat down, depending on how the GM chooses to run combat.
I'd be happy to bump it up to 5 in this case; based on the profiles I'm seeing, most of the people submitting characters seem to have a good and consistent posting history.
Paulinus Ratarion |
Yeah, if they have more than a couple thousand posts on their main alias it should be fine, that shows they have sticking power. Otherwise I'd prefer to stick to four.
Siri Quinray |
I'll trust your judgment for choosing another player here. Though if you do go for a fourth, I'm partial to Bayani Nishu. Having another frontliner will be helpful for Siri.
Paulinus Ratarion |
I'm a frontliner as well. I miss alot now, but the rest of my levels will be in paladin. So I should be decently hard hitting and I'll have a good AC/HP. The build I'm going for just requires me to be crappy at first level.
