GM Bali's Reign of Winter (Inactive)

Game Master Bali

A strange and unnatural cold has fallen in Southern Taldor. The town of Heldren calls for heroes, who will answer this call?

My fault, Cyrus actually went this round so we're heading back to the top.

The sorcerers ball of flame catches the beleaguered creature and send it to the ground with a brief cry of pain.

With the Kellids shouts and gestures drawing your eye in the right direction you all manage to catch a fleeting glance of something small flying about fifteen feet off the ground ahead of you just as it looses a stone at Droguk.

Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 9 - 4 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

DC 13 Fort save please Droguk vs Numbing Cold

Still shaken by the blast of sound Thrymr advances to below where the creature flies in the high winds and hurls a spear at it.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 3 - 4 = 5
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

The wind catches the shaft however sending it wide.

Back to the party...(Cyrus feel free to rework that last action)

I knew I didn't know. :P

Fort: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 1 = 25

Droguk moves nearer the creature, drawing a javelin as he does and launching it.

If fey, add +2 to hit and damage
Cold Iron Javelin: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 1 - 4 = 1
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

As he misses horribly, he tries to keep an eye on it just in case the gale type winds blow it back toward himself.

Nelossë moves to shield the sorcerer with her body, then reaches back and imparts a handful of good fortune to him. She then resettles her hands on her glaive, waiting for an opportunity to attack.

Bit of luck on Kobad, so Kobad can roll twice for any d20 roll and take the better result until Nelossë's next turn.

Okay, Kobad, time to repeat what you did last time. :) You're up.

Kobad? You still with us?

oops...will you please stop putting everything in my hands? I fumble to much

Looking for an opening Kobad seemingly is staring down the enemy then he suddenly lets loose with a bolt of fire

ranged touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
second roll per luck: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

fire damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

too bad that ability does not work for damage also

Concealment (low 20): 1d100 ⇒ 36

Keep in mind the -4 to ranged attacks

The sphere of fire once again flies true drawing a scream of pain from the creature that is quickly lost in the roaring wind.

Cyrus you've got an action if you'd like it

Male Human Ranger 4; HP 5/43; AC 17/13/14; F+6/R+7/W+3; Init. +3; Per. +9 (+2 vs. animals; +2 in cold)

Cyrus, ever paranoid, keeps his falchion ready in hand, moving quickly over to Kobad and preparing himself to strike the creature should it emerge again, realizing that, since Kobad has injured it twice now, it may perceive him as the greatest threat to its' existence.

Move to stand beside Kobad, then ready an attack should the thing come in range.

: roll20 link :

The creature flies off over one of the odd huts, it's small form difficult to track in the blasting snow. Once there it whips a sling about and sends a stone at Kobad.

Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 9 - 4 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

The stone strikes the sorcerer drawing blood from his forehead.

While all eyes are turned to the flying creature Droguk and Cyrus hear the sound of a bellowed battle cry from behind them. Spinning on their heels they can make out a large form lumbering towards Thrymr. His ears still ringing from the feys earlier attack he has no warning of the harpoon sized spear descending on him.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Concealment (low 20 miss): 1d100 ⇒ 1

Only Desnas favor saves the Ulfen from being spitted like a boar. The shock is evident on his face when the spearhead narrowly misses his torso.

I don't believe it does. You're staggered for the next round

In addition to drawing blood the wound sends a chilling cold through Kobads veins leaving his limbs stiffened and slow to execute his will.

Droguk's eyes narrow as he peers through the blizzard to make out what he can of the beast. Droguk drops his axe and takes a step toward the creature, drawing his longspear as he does, then attempting to skewer the creature.

Lady luck smiles upon thee?

Nelossë calls on a ward of protection for herself, then moves to where she'll be able to strike the massive form near Droguk and Thrymr.

: roll20 link :

The spear buries itself deeply in the hulking creatures chest. Hot blood flows and turns snow a deep crimson but the bellow of rage that bursts forth from the creature makes it clear that there is fight left in it.

Thrymr takes the opportunity to advance and attack.

His swing is thrown wide however by the force of his opponents blow.

Not sure whose turn it is but I'm going to go ahead and post an action just in case it is mine.

Cyrus makes his way forward, squeezing between Nelosse and Thrymr as he tries to get into an attack position.

I think that amount of movement is still legal. Gonna go ahead and roll an attack if it is; if not, assume I double-moved to get to current position and end turn.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 = 6

It was yours. You're right on.

Now it's up to Kobad "The Flamethrower". :)

Male Human Sorcerer 4 [AC 14 | FF 12 | T 12 -- HP 7 / 22 | Fort +2 | Ref +3 | Will +5 -- Perc +4 | Init +2]

Kobad, shivering in the cold like he has never felt before. Its as if the ice has penetrated his very blood. the pain was intense. barely able to even focus he weakily holds out his hand and sends a jet of fire toward the hulking creature.

ranged touch: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 3 - 4 = 15
fire damage if a hit: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

: roll20 link :

Movement is quartered so if I remember where you started correctly you'd have to double move to get there.

Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 94

As Cyrus approaches a brief but intense wave of heat and light cuts through the air above you all. Falling snow caught in its path sizzles and turns to steam. The blast strikes the lumbering form which screams in pain and perhaps fear. The smell of burned flesh pervades the area for a moment before the blasting cold winds reassert themselves.

The beast bellows something out in a tongue unknown to this region before resuming it's attack.

Giant:
Hommelstaub! Kill the wizard!

Attack vs Thrymr: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

The powerful blow cuts along the Ulfens armor but is unable to find purchase. With a snarl it then lunges forward and tries to bite the beleaguered warrior.

Attack (bite): 1d20 ⇒ 4
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Thrymr manages to dance to the side however.

From the opposite side of the battle another stone flies for Kobad.

Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 9 - 4 = 6
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

The gusty wind fouls the shot however. Following it's attack the flying creature circles on the sorcerer.

Thrymr, meanwhile, takes advantage of the beasts failed attacks.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

He catches the beast with a rising swing to the jaw just as he dodges it's bite. An audible and sickening snap can be hear as it's head rocks back and it's body falls backwards into the snow.

The flying creature gives a cry of alarm.

Nice round, Party up

As the giant falls, Droguk looks around, unable to see the sorcerer. Calling out over the storm, "Hommelstaub! If you kill the wizard, I will eat the flesh off your bones while you still live!" Droguk then moves toward the direction the last fire blast came from.

Intimidate: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 HA! Believe it or not, I actually called that 1(It's easy to do when that's what you roll the majority of the time). :P That's good though. Now he won't run away. MWHAHAHAHA!

I moved 2 squares diagonally. From where I'm at now, if you go 2 squares North-Northwest, that's where I WAS. Which should be my double move. Hopefully that's legal. That's funny, 20' is a DOUBLE move for a guy with a 40' normal movement. Wow. Brutal.

GM Bali wrote:
You're staggered for the next round

It was just for that last round according to this statement. It's about 10 or 12 posts up.

: roll20 link :

That's correct it was just the round following the attack

Startled by the fluttering being appearing out of the snow storm, Featherfoot rears up and lashes out with her front hooves. Focused on Kobad the creature doesn't notice it's danger until it's too late. The strike from the noble horse hits hard enough to spin the fey around but it quickly recovers.

Cyrus and Kobad, you're up

Cyrus? Kobad? Let's take this fool down, fellas!

Male Human Sorcerer 4 [AC 14 | FF 12 | T 12 -- HP 7 / 22 | Fort +2 | Ref +3 | Will +5 -- Perc +4 | Init +2]

Having fought off the cold with the aid of his cloak Kobad is confronted with the icy creature.

having been knocked for a loop by the horse, Kobad thinks he can't be that hard to hit. and if he can hit it, it can burn.

shifting his position so he can attack Kobad ignites his hand in a small flame and hurls it like a ball at the creature.

ranged touch: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 3 - 4 = 13
fire damage if that hits: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 6) + 1 = 13

needs DC 16 fort if hit or be staggered for 1 round.

Male Human Ranger 4; HP 5/43; AC 17/13/14; F+6/R+7/W+3; Init. +3; Per. +9 (+2 vs. animals; +2 in cold)

Criminy, I don't know what's been going on with my head lately. Sorry for taking so long to reply again.

The larger foe no long an issue, Cyrus turns to face the smaller creature that is now occupied by Droguk. He trudges through the snow, forcing his feet to push through the terrain, until he is directly behind Kobad and to the side of Droguk.

Same thing as before; double-move to present location on map. I think I got the movement for that right. Moved three squares overall. If that leaves me with any movement left, which I don't think it will, I'll ready an attack if the fae comes in range.

Up to you, Bali. Make sure you mess up horribly and accidentally have the blue creature fall on someone's blade. I ain't asking for much here. ;)

: roll20 link :

Heh, I'll see what I can do :)

The ball of flame springs forth but the nimble creature cuts to the side and it passes on into the snow. Snarling the diminuitive creature calls out strange words and then flies at Kobad, reaching forward for him.

Touch Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

The Sorcerer feels foul energies run through his veins from the point the creature touched.

DC 15 Fort for half.

Being at one square of movement per action sucks.

Nelossë will trudge through the snow, reaching out to grant a boon to Kobad as he comes into view. Bit of luck. Any d20 roll this round, roll twice and take better.

Featherfoot will continue to try and pound the small flying thing into the ground snow.

"Accursed snow!" the ranger mutters aloud as he continues trudging forward, finally feeling that he can finish closing the distance between himself and his foe.

Three squares of movement to reach present location on map. I think that would required a double move, wouldn't it?

It's Kobad time!

: roll20 link :

Again Featherfoot lashes out with twin hooves and again they land true. The flying creature seems to take the blows well however and does little more than sneer at the great equine.

I don't have access to roll20 right now, so I am not sure on where everyone is positioned. with the miss chances I had planned on using an area effect but I will probably be burning Featherfoot as well.

Droguk is immediately between you and the opponent, with Cyrus in the square right below him. Featherfoot is below/behind the thing we're fighting, so not flanking with Droguk. She's instead flanking the empty square below the opponent with Cyrus. You are also Bit of Lucked, so any d20 rolls this turn you're rolling twice and taking better, for what that's worth.

Male Human Sorcerer 4 [AC 14 | FF 12 | T 12 -- HP 7 / 22 | Fort +2 | Ref +3 | Will +5 -- Perc +4 | Init +2]

yeah with -4 to hit for melee and -4 to hit for cover and the miss chance on top of that. so a total of 20% chance to miss and a total attack bonus of -5. yeah I ain't hitting much at all

So are you gonna delay this round, Kobad, or what?

I needed to get to a point where I could load to map, I have been working 72 hours a week this past week tonight is my first night off but back to work Saturday and Sunday

Kobad backs away and tries to circle around having difficulty moving and seeing the enemy.

moved on map

I think we're back to the DM. But being Easter, I would expect that not to happen until at least by tomorrow. Just throwing this out for clarification purposes.

Droguk + Cyrus:
Above the sound of the wind you hear an enraged bellow behind you. Looking back you see the fallen form of the large beast that attacked you standing back up and starting to move towards you. Thrymr, oblivious to the sound, stands just before the creature unaware of his mortal danger.
Keep in mind the rest of your party is deaf

The flying creature glances past the party and then zips away behind one of the huts.

Thrymr meanwhile continues to move towards the party.

Back to you guys

Droguk snaps his head around, taken aback that the creature still lives. He immediately moves back in that direction yelling, "BEAST!" in hopes to warn the others.

His eyes widen when he sees the creature they thought was fallen rising once more, about to shout along with Droguk when it suddenly occurs to him that the rest of the group doesn't seem to be understanding verbal instructions as well.

That being the case, he points (emphatically) in the direction of the risen foe with his falchion, beginning to slog back towards it as quickly as he can tromp through the accursed snow.

Would Know (Nature) perhaps give me some idea of why this thing just stood back up when we had put it down? I don't think Geography or Local would do much good...well, just in case...

Cyrus:
Even as one part of your mind tries to reconcile the brutal damage this thing took with it rising again another part works furiously to make a complete image of the various bits of information you have about it. "Moss Troll" you suddenly realize. The long arms, bestial shape and what must be regenerative powers make you sure of it. You recall hearing about them from an Ulfen traveler who came through town many years ago. He'd actually been boasting of greater varieties of trolls that his people fought regularly but you remember him mentioning "Ha, you southerners! Even our trees sprout trolls in the north." He went on to describe a creature with long arms that preferred to ambush it's prey from the limbs of trees and in fact (if he could be believed after so many of the taverns best ales) could even take the form of a tree. Deathly afraid of fire the creatures could only be killed after being put to the torch.
