I think we have hit a road block. But I love playing with you guys, so having the game go longer is all good as far as I’m concerned. ;)
At the moment we’re not going to get past Jairo without a fight, which is kinda sad and may be linked to our second PP (pure speculation on my part).
I like Joh’s suggestion of going back through the rest of the complex and looking for clues. Thoughts?
Lorelendral Teklet |
sure!
GM Aarvid |
I placed tokens in the room about where some characters stated movement prior to the curtains being thrown wide.
Please adjust or describe if I missed anything before we get too far into combat.
Eadie Navhelan |
I’m fine with the positioning.
Yes, Chau hits Eadie’s FF AC for 19 hp damage(?) Status bar has been updated.
Eadie Navhelan |
You’re square’s jealous and doesn’t want to share, Lore!
Thank-you, Chief Justice Aarvid :)
I’ve only been playing 3.x + games for about two years. I can’t remember the term ‘rules lawyer’ in 0E or 1E. It is very apt, though.
I do remember disagreements with the DM (quite a few actually) but in the end what the DM said became the rule – maybe because there were much fewer published rules?
GM Aarvid |
I definitely had to read up on the bull rush on this one. If Chau had hit harder and knocked you both, the rules cover, or if softer, then no collision. But could not find ruling on entering same square. I have not played or seen many bull-rush fights, so this is mostly new territory.
As always, call me out if you see me doing something wrong or questionable. I have not passed the rules bar exam yet (which in Living Greyhawk you had to actually pass a test to be a GM!) :-)
Lorelendral Teklet |
omg... those were tough times... I took that exam, passed and ran MANY LG games... but I don't blame them for doing that - considering how loose the GM's were with the Living City scenarios and rules.
Eadie Navhelan |
Heh. The local VC has new GMs run a game for him and some other experienced players/GMs before we get our ‘PFS GM license.’ I think it’s a great idea.
I asked Nebten for any advice before I ran my first game. He basically said, “Will you know the players you’re running for?”
I answered. “Oh, yes. We’ve all played together before.”
He replied, “You’ll be fine.” He was right.

I believe the bull rush interaction is as such (with a number of differences from Shield Slam, including object interaction and "that using the attack roll's die instead of a separate check" weirdness. Such a good Ranger Style, though.);
- Determine distance for initial Bull Rush. If there is a collision with a new creature, make a new CMB check with a -4 penalty versus the new target's CMD.
- If you succeed, calculate the distance this new check would move them. Push both creatures the distance of the lesser result between the two (factoring in distance already moved into the original distance.)
If that additional CMB fails, then all bull rushing is complete.
In this case, the gnoll would get another check at -4 vs our cleric. On the assumption that succeeds, both of them would be pushed back either the distance that Eadie was going or how far the gnome would go, whichever is lower.
A CMB check of 35 vs CMD 25 should be 15 feet (5' for succeeding and an additional 5' for every 5 points over the CMD.) Now this sets the maximum at "ten more feet". If Basher the Gnoll's new check (remembering the -4 penalty) vs the gnome can't beat her CMD by more than 5, then they'd both only go back 5 more.
Disclaimer: I only just looked at the situation after typing this up on mobile, because mobile typing is Butts.)

More info: The gnoll has the option to follow (assuming she doesn't have Merfolk-tier movement) the push-party if she wants. This choice normalls has zero effects on the actual results of the Rush, though it does allow full-attacking and hilarious double-rushes thanks to Shield Slam if it's only a 5' step (though the "taking a move action" to go with a Shield Slam does preempt a full attack.)
Insert (1) Cupcake(s) to Continue Learning More (about a build I was going to run through Wrath of the Righteous)
Post-post thought: If you just use that "invalid" roll as the secondary bull rush, you don't need to update anything because that wouldn't push anything. Plus, it was technically the next roll. More importantly, it's less work and altering.
GM Aarvid |
Keeping the invalid roll, which fails...
So after all of that discourse, the way I read it the gnoll would not have been able to push Lore any further than the extra 5', Eadie would bounce back to Lore's original position, and the map is back to how we originally had it. :-)

Almost done here, so if you did not provide a day-job roll at the beginning, make sure to add it here. We should be wrapped by this weekend.

I see Iggy is running Tide of Twilight (levels 1-5) for anyone interested. You can find out more at the Flaxseed Lodge.
(I have played it unfortunately). You’re looking to beat me to that star aren’t you, bud? ;)
Ignatius Van Hjorder |
No day job for Iggy.
And Eadie, no... well, maybe I am trying to beat you to the first star. I think running Tide of Twilight will put me up to that prestigious plateau of honor.

I had a great time in this one. Thank-you everyone and especially GM Aarvid for running.
Eadie levels to 7!
Lorelendral Teklet |
yay! Lore levels up to 7 as well...
thanks so much GM Aarvid - I had a lot of fun in this one!
Eadie Navhelan |
Look out, Golarion! Lore starts getting 4th level spells ;)
Lorelendral Teklet |
damn straight!!!
Eadie Navhelan |
Do you want to run another one, GM Aarvid or are you taking a break?
Professor Snouts Oinkerton |
I can play these things! Though if I'm a limiting factor (because I've played a LOT of Season 0-4), feel no remorse picking something I can't play.

Yay!
I think the only scenario we can all play is the new 3-7 Test of Tar Kuata.
Are you still at level 7, Ernest?
Professor Snouts Oinkerton |
Negatory, since we also finished the one I'm running. That said, I've still got plenty in-tier for a 3-7.

Please validate...
You each received the Djinni and Gnoll boons, but I did not think anyone qualified for the factions.
So please cross those two faction boons off once you get your sheet.
Let me know if I missed anything on XP/Gold or your specific pdf etc.
Chronicles
Eadie Navhelan |
Got mine! All looks good and Liberty's Edge and Silver Crusade faction boons have been removed like doughnuts from Snouts' dinner bowl.
Thanks again, GM Aarvid!
Lorelendral Teklet |
Thanks for the sheets, GM Aarvid... Duly have crossed off the faction boons since they don't apply... this one put me up to 7th lvl and Lore is now on slow advancement! So she probably won't be able to keep up with y'all, but I'd be honored to play with you all as long as she can.
August Autumnwind |
I'm already in a game of the new 3-7 so I can't play it here. Chronicle looks good, thanks as always!
