Revvy Bitterleaf |
The door unlocks as Ss'alat turns the key, as the door opens you can see:
Wisps of decayed and sagging spider webs droop from the walls of this room, which appears to be empty except for the long-dead, dismembered corpse of a giant spider and a stout, freestanding wooden closet in the southwestern corner. The ceiling is covered with dusty spider webs bulging down from a grid of wooden beams and plaster fifteen feet above the floor.
Faint moans and plaintive sobbing come from the closet.
Chaul Drammarson |
"How can anyone be alive down here still?" asks Chaul, suspicous.
Still, he cannot help but advance carefully into the room.
"Hello within...Who are you?"
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Just the presence of illusory magic already picked up from outside, it seems to be coming from the closet
Chaul doesn't get any answer..other then some soft moaning and sobbing as from a small scared child that's hiding from something or someone scary
Novid doesn't detect anything as he scans the room
Chaul Drammarson |
Chaul starts to search around, but keeps his scimitar and shield out...
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
"Come out child, we are here to help you.
Sera Dragonbane |
I would be absolutely no help with perception checks, so I simply continue with my detect evil vision
Sera holds her greatsword warily. "A child? In this place? I would certainly be careful if I were you. Just think, anything on this floor would have had to go through the first floor filled with goblins as well as the skeletons in the last two rooms... I don't think we are dealing with a mere child..."
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Combined the party is able to determine that there is a faint trace of an evil alignment inside the closet and that part of the floor in the center of the room is trapped somehow..you can't be sure what it does, it seems like a trigger plate for something.... it also seems to be linked to the closet.
And Ss'alat is able to spot the outline of another secret door in the wall next to the closet.
There is no response to Chaul's comment, other then the continuing soft sobbing.
Chaul Drammarson |
Chaul finds a bit of stone, masonry or other destroyed furniture to toss onto the trapped area in the middle of the room... from a safe distance.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
As Ss'alat cast disrupt undead at the closet ..he hit's a piece of wood
(doesn't seem to do anything)
Chaul tosses some piece of rubble at the trigger plate in the middle of the room (from a safe distance) and the piece of rubble lands and then tumbles around for a fraction of second before ending it's movement on it's side
(also doesn't seem to do anything)
Novid Sin Eater |
Novid rolls his eyes moving next to the plate swinging his sword.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (7, 8) + 6 = 21
That shouyld hit and i think i trigger or maybe broke the trap.
Gunnar Graubart |
Argg..thought I traded that ability out with the Archetype but guess I didn't. Well that's awesome...Trade out Ray of Sickening for SNA1 and summon a dog.
Seeing the tight spot the group is in here Gunnar decides that it might well be time to make a sacrifice. The Dwarf begins to incant a few words and fat and ugly dog apppears right there on the presure plate.
Take a walk! The Dwarf instructs the drooling beast as he warns his companions to take a step back.
Chaul Drammarson |
Chaul carefully approaches the closet, and once the team is in position, opens the door (from the hinge side - so the door will act as a shield for him against anything within).
Revvy Bitterleaf |
As soon as Chaul touches the door to open it , the voice ceases and the closet collapses, the heavy panels falling outward (the closet is held together only by loose wooden pegs). Then out rushes a fast zombie it's arms stretched forward as if to choke Chaul.

Damage: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
If the zombie doesnt count as flat footed it gets an AoO.
Sera Dragonbane |
As Sera's eyes shift to their normal color, she raises her greatsword and grins, ready for yet another glorious battle against Torag's foes. She steps up and swings in a mighty arc...
Power Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 7 - 1 = 20
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 6) + 9 = 18
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Zombie counts as flatfooted, since it hasn't taken an action in initiative yet
The quick reactions of the party take down the zombie before it can close it's fingers around Chaul's throat as Novid and Sera's sword strike it in it's torso and Ss'alath disrupt undead burns a hole in it's skull
Out of combat
The zombie carries nothing (other then some rotting clothes) and the closet contains nothing (anymore, it used to contain a zombie in pretty good condition)
What do you want to do now?
Chaul Drammarson |
Chaul looks up from the broken door.
"I'll take care not to make you angry..."
For a moment he kneels over the fallen form that had once been a man.
"I pray your soul resides in some happier place than your body ended up."
He points to the secret door. "Shall we try that next? Who would have thought we would be exploring a necromancers lair under here?"
Revvy Bitterleaf |
As you examine the secret door the dog that Gunnar summoned disappears back to where it came from, but you conclude that the secret door isn't trapped or locked and open it to find;
An empty hall way
You quickly search through it and discover it to be empty, not trapped and containing another secret door on the other side of the short corridor (which is also unlocked, easy to open and doesn't seem trapped)
Assuming you will move further through the newly found door
A few wisps of decayed webbing hang from the walls of this room, but there’s none on the stone ceiling and no sign of spiders in the room. The ceiling is blank save for four 1-footwide, round steel medallions, one set into each corner. The floor is equally bare except for a pedestal in the center of the floor made of a single five-foot-square block of stone, about two feet high. On the pedestal sits a metal-framed wooden chest, and to the side of the pedestal rests a shallow hole in the floor housing what looks like a brass door handle set into the stone. A stone tile lying loose nearby is clearly designed to fit over the hole, concealing the handle.
(You also notice 2 more secret doors in this room)
Chaul Drammarson |
"Here is a puzzle and a half. I think we may be better going around here and trying some other door. We may find a clue as to what to do here somewhere else."
I suggest we go back to B6 and try the south door there.
Novid Sin Eater |
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
"There seem to be more doors in this room. And its odd how the wall doesnt meet the ceiling." Novid points out. He then looks to Chaul, "No need to worry friend Chaul. I only destroy those who Ragathiel demands. Not followers of friendly dieties."
Gunnar Graubart |
As Novid points out the fact about the walls Gunnar replies with his unmistakeable grumble then the Dwarf casts a cantrip to discern any magical auras.
This is odd. I suppose it might be an illusion of sorts. Otherwise this structure might be a bit unstable me thinks.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Unsure of what to make of this room you back track to another door
The walls and ceiling of this room are hidden behind a thick, gray-white forest of spider webs that blocks all vision beyond ten feet. Webs are everywhere, creating a maze of vertical sheets.
Gray, furry dust clings to the sticky, white webs. The desiccated, shriveled corpse of a long-dead man hangs spread-eagle across one of these layers of webbing, and rusty swords, daggers, and axes hang securely from others.
Inside the room is a spider the size of a large dog or small pony that hisses at you and bares it fangs. Its crimson eyes glitter with malign intelligence.

Something weird is happening since the first thing Chaul said was that he closed the door...but since 2 other players took action after that going with majority for now and keep things moving as if Chaul didn't do that, sorry Chaul. You can do something else on your turn (or even still close the door if you want, just after the others did something)

@Gunnar, the reflex save is for every square you enter with webs..It looks like you need to enter 2 squares with webs to get where you are so you make it to the square you are in now..but you might be stuck there now - going to need another reflex save
Gunnar steps into the room and makes his way past the icky webs. All of a sudden the Dwarf turns gargantuan and swing his massive hammer in a high arc bringing it down with all his might but all he manages to do is swipe some though sticky webs out of the way.

It would appear his aim with a sling is a little off.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Novid walks into the rooms and swings at the spider but even though he isn't slowed by the webs his weapon is and the spider avoids his greatsword.
Dropping her greatsword when she sees the webbing, Sera pulls out her glaive and prepares to strikes at the spider, but with too much webbing in the way she misses.
Chaul drops his scimitar, drawing his sling so he can strike the spider without becoming entangled but his first sling stone misses..as does his second
Sera and Novid attack again and having cleared away some webs with their earlier attacks are now capable of hitting, first one then the other..their combined attacks are enough to kill the spider
With some effort and a slashing weapon you are able to maneuver around the area if you move carefully and take some time
The corpse has no treasure. The webs in this chamber hold two longswords, five daggers, and one hand axe, all rusty but still usable. A purse containing 42 copper pieces is also caught in the web.
What do you want to do now?
Chaul Drammarson |
Chaul shifts his vision, looking around to see any telltale traces of magic.
Casts detect magic
"I wonder what it ate..." then gestures at the swords "aside from adventurers."
