Aspect of the Elements |
Make sure all your equipment is finalized, because here we go.
A crackling of cerulean lighting lights up the coast. Your former vessel, the Siren's Song lies beached and battered half a mile down the coast. Luckily, you and your allies were able to escape the doomed ship before she ran aground of the reef.
Ahead of you, imposing cliffs soar ever upward, their summits shrouded in thick ocean fog banks.
In the gloom, broken only by the bright flashes of the tropical storm, you spy a stone building, a shrine or temple in the distance, built adjacent to the cliffside.
Malthazir |
Malthazir walks through the beach, for the twelfth time pouring sand out of his boots. Once done he stoops and puts them back on, using his spear as a walking stick. By the All Seeing Eye, I almost wish I had died on the boat. The skinny human runs a hand through his thin white hair, pushing the sweat back. He sees shelter and gives a half-hearted smile. "There! Finally somewhere we can get out of the elements for a time."
Dullia Krimhilde |
With the wind catching on the loose fabric of her robes, Dullia Krimhilde is forced to raise up her hand in an effort to shield her face from the pounding rain. She stops and looks back to her travelling companions, pointing to the structure in the distance.
"We should make for that temple, seek shelter from the storm!" she says, having to raise her voice to be heard over the roaring winds.
Aspect of the Elements |
"Go ahead and check it out," Omara said, pulling her pack from the lifeboat and turning back towards the ship. "I'll keep looking for survivors." Shouldering her pack and unfolding her umbrella out of habit, she starts making for the wreck.
Omara, you head back towards the wreck. Make a Perception check for me to see if you find anything or anyone.
Aspect of the Elements |
[dice=Perception]1d20+1
As the rest of your group huddles out in the storm, you explore the remains of the demolished vessel.
Looks like no one made it out alive except you and your members on the beach, but a glance through the ship salvages the following supplies from the hold, crew quarters and captain's quarters. The ship was mainly carrying trade goods, so there's a sizable amount of this.
Fair warning, there's a reason for the bag of holdings, please keep track of encumbrance somewhere on your sheet. "Trade Good" items will be able to eventually be bartered off. It's not useless to carry them.
Treasure
- A crate filled with 18 bottles of cheap wine (.5 lb per bottle)
- A large bolt of emerald green cloth (10 lb.)
- A bag of iron nails and tools (1 lb.)
- A masterwork breastplate
Omara Sedilah |
I'm assuming that since you were doing the same as Omara, you're in the same area
"For a given value of 'dry', I suppose". Omara says with a sad smile as she approaches. "It seems we were the only ones to make it out, so I'm searching for supplies while the others look over a possible shelter. Have you found anything?"
You should probably make a perception roll too. Mine was pretty low, so a good one should turn up more.
Also, this may be presumptuous, Mr. DM, but could we also turn up a shovel?
Eldak "Stormsoul" Kelthar |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Sorry for the late post, I was off skiing and there was no wifi where I was staying
After landing safely ashore, tired and weary, Eldak looks around and takes in his surroundings. The storm itself is a small worry to him, being used to it's kind from his travels and his studies, but the barren stretch of beach and rock seemed both uninviting and dangerous.
As his other companions arrive on shore and look around for themselves he waits to see what some will do before moving out on his own.
Seeing two of his companions move of towards the wreck and the others go in the direction of the stone building, Eldak goes towards the ship in a logical move of keeping both divisions of their party equal in strength.
Once there, he attempts to help the dark-skinned woman in her search stopping only briefly to say
"It will go faster if we both look"
before moving off to search through the destroyed ship
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Not really much better :/
Sun Xian |
Xian stares at Omara quizzically for a moment, wondering how she doesn't think the land is dry (even during a storm) before quickly realizing that Omara isn't an Undine. "Oh! Yes, well, this is my idea of dry. Sadly, I was not able to find much other than wreckage and death in the waters." Xian begins to search the beached shipwreck.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Aspect of the Elements |
Despite the continuous searching of the wreckage, nothing more can be found of worth.
Spines heads over towards the building and as he gets closer, realizes it's a stone temple, carved from the cliffside.
An entrance lies before you, the inside dark unlit.
Carvings of ferocious beasts decorate the stone entrance.
Eldak "Stormsoul" Kelthar |
Seeing that nothing more can be salvaged and not wanting to stay near the potentially dangerous wreckage, Eldak strikes out towards the stone building. As he leaves he calls out to the Undine and the Suli
"Come, there is nothing more for us here"
Spines |
Spines steps just inside the entrance far enough to get out of the rain. He reaches into his bag and pulls out a torch to see what lies inside the temple.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 plus darkvision
He lets out a scream to scare out any possible hiding creatures, and let any possible enemies know that their fate was death, but all that comes out is a weak whine.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
"Must be getting sick," he says to himself. "Good thing I'm out of the storm now."
Aspect of the Elements |
The Stone Pagoda of Mawu
Nestled at the foot of the Tong'wei Cliffs, the Stone Pagoda of Mawu has long been abandoned by the living. From within its eerily quiet interior, the occasional mourning echo can be heard.
#1: Pagoda Entrance
You find yourself in a dark chamber of stone. Bare except for carved benches on the four walls and a set of sculpted stairs rising to the level above you. You have entered from the north.
Peering around, you notice that the pouring rain causes rivulets to run down the southern wall and drain into an open stone grate. IF it were removed, a small or medium creature could probably squeeze through.
Spines, your Perception check sees the above.
Dullia Krimhilde |
Dullia follows Malthazirs gaze. She nods in agreement, saying. "I'll check to see if it goes anywhere useful."
She kneels down and gazes down into the shaft below while mumbling.
Casting Sift on the area below the stone grate.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 - 5 ⇒ (17) + 8 - 5 = 20
Aspect of the Elements |
Dullia follows Malthazirs gaze. She nods in agreement, saying. "I'll check to see if it goes anywhere useful."
She kneels down and gazes down into the shaft below while mumbling.
Casting Sift on the area below the stone grate.
[dice=Perception]1d20+8-5
Dullia's Sift spell allows her to gaze into the drainage below. Though dark, you can tell the area is partially submerged, most likely waist level. Furthermore, you all hear distinct scratching sounds from below.
Spines |
"Water?" Spines grumbles. I thought I'd get to dry off, but if there's something down there, I'll be the first to go check it out."
Spines tries to lift the stone grate, but fails miserably. He starts to become enraged and yells at the top of his lungs.
Strength: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Between the intimidate roll and this strength roll, he has to appear like a huge wuss.
Sun Xian |
"Orcs are supposed to be strong," Sun Xian states matter-of-factly, "Perhaps I am mistaken and you are only half-blooded? I have not met an Orc in person until recently." Xian makes her way to the grate. "I lack the raw physical power of a bull, but I will assist lifting the grate, if someone willing bear the majority of the load"
Strength aid: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
Sun Xian sets her weight and waits for assistance.
Eldak "Stormsoul" Kelthar |
After seeing the Undine successfully displace the grate after the Orcs failed attempt, Eldak moves forward and says
"Let me try something first"
before casting Jolt in to the body of water below
Not sure if this actually does anything like spread into the water but figured I might as well try it first
Aspect of the Elements |
Eldak launches Jolt down into the water below... nothing seems to have happened, good nor bad.
Spines, feeling the need to prove his virility, drops down underneath the grate into the water below.
While his muscles may have failed him moments ago, his keen darkvision allows him to spot the creature before him, scuttering behind rubble.
#2: Pagoda Rain-Sewer
This cramped chamber seems to be channeling the rain and water from the pagoda into small stone channels, sending it back to the sea.
The creature before you seems to be a squat, blue-scaled reptilian of some sort, much akin to a caiman. Splashing down into its lair, it automatically notices you.
Spines Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Seascale Caiman 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
The beast lumbers towards you and attempts to take a chunk out of your orc body.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Spines |
Spines grabs his Earthbreaker and furiously swings at the reptilian enemy. "You DARE bite at me you puny scum?"
Power Attack, Raging Earthbreaker: 1d20 + 6 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 - 1 + 2 = 9
The large hammer misses and causes a giant splash as it hits the water.
The dice hate me for some reason! WTH?
AC now 14, HP now 17
Aspect of the Elements |
Can I see it from up top?
Unfortunately no, you can barely see Spines but the caiman is just out of sight.
As for the grate, assume it is wide enough for others to make their way down.
Since no one has done so, on to Round 2.
Caimain Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Caiman Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Finally, the beast chomps into Spines, taking some measure of flesh and blood with him.
Malthazir |
Malthazir jumps down into the hole. "It looks like he wants a piece of you!" The sorcerer stomps the ground, causing a sound like thunder.
Trip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Casting Thunderstomp.
Spines |
Spines, being too upset with this vile crocodile to acknowledge the given joke, focuses all his power into this one strike.
This better work: 1d20 + 6 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 1 + 2 = 19
DAMNage: 2d6 + 6 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 + 3 + 3 = 24
Spines |
Spines triumphantly bangs on his chest, then moves out of the way to allow the rest down through the grate, paying special attention to stomp on the head of his most recent victim. As he starts to calm down, he catches his breath and says to Malthazir, "Thank you. You are doing a good job."
Brownie points for anyone who knows the reference.
Spines |
You win Eldak. Spines will stop what he's doing and bake your character some brownies.
Spines looks around to get a better idea of his surroundings.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
"I'm not sure, come down here and check it out for yourself."
