Sorry for all the players looking for a game, this one is a closed invitation game.

Current players - moafnsteel, Vuvu, baldwinthemerciful, Merck
Possible player - Bill Lumberg

So as previously stated you guys should work together because you're forming an adventuring group participating in a lottery for tomb/dungeon raid spots in Wati.

Rules for character creation:

-Core races (if it's been your dream to play an uncommon race from the ARG come up with a pretty awesome backstory).
-Max starting gold.
-20 point stat buy.
-No summoners or gunslinger.
-No third-party builds/feats.
-Two traits, one from the Player's guide.
-No evil characters (I'm the only one who gets to be evil).

Again, mostly my worry is no cheese, but if you've always been dying to play a particular character let me know. The more backstory and roleplaying you do at the start the better your chances of creating something cheesy - a Velveeta-y character if you will.

I'm not sure if there is a way to change the title of the thread, but if you can you might want to put into parentases private invite only, so that the public don't bother looking at this.

Good tip!

I will wait to see what the other's are doing, as it seems most people already have an idea of a character in mind. I am thinking I will be a healer or a rogue. Hopefully Bill plays so I don't have to be a healer lol

If you're not into the classic healer, there's always the war priest class?

Right now I am thinking of:

an ancestors oracle who thinks that he is a cleric of Aroden who would not channel energy but would use cure spells

an inquisitor of Asmodeus that I used to play in a Serpent's Skull game who was never a healer in any way

a hedonistic cleric of Urgathoa who thinks Pharasma is a paper tiger and her clergy are fools who would channel negative energy but would use cure spells when needed

My reservation about jumping into the game is that my work situation might change in the next week or so and I don't know if it will curtail my time for games. I would hate to join a game just to have to drop out a week later.

I understand completely - note that there are no evil characters in this particular game (it's not a requirement of the AP I don't think, just a DM-fiat rule.)

The inquisitor of Asmodeus is LN. This is his profile.

If I were to make the cleric of Urgathoa he would be selfishly neutral, if that is acceptable. He views Urgathoa as embodying an undeniable will to live as evidenced by her escape from the Boneyard. The undead are similarly driven to overcome death. Some of them (intelligent ones) are just more successful at it than others (non-intelligent). His faith centers more on living a life of excess and not sublimating desires.

The inquisitor of Asmodeus might work, but the cleric of Urgathoa would be a bad idea in my opinion.

Wati is a city that was essentially destroyed by a plague and is haunted by undead - the Pharasmans run the lottery at the start of the game, and honestly if your character worships the goddess of disease and undeath you (and the party) would have a very hard time in the first two modules at least, if your character wasn't straight up killed. Remember the key to religious intolerance isn't how you see your worship, it's how other people see your worship.

And remember unlike a lot of other AP's the groups aren't thrown together by circumstance - you start as a cohesive team that's chosen to be together to start excavating tombs, so some of the personality conflicts (e.g. Mesdoram who hates slavers and Jasmine who comes from a slaver family) wouldn't be glossed over by shared experience or expediency.

Oh, I see, it is another one of those slavers, murderers and plague-spreaders are bad people modules that Paizo pushes.

I am kidding, of course.

I can't envision how the inquisitor would join in with the group. If I go through with this it looks like it will be with the oracle.

I know, they're so judgemental.

Here is my Halfling rogue, I will work on his equipment and backstory once everybody commits to a class, because if we have no healer, than I plan to play a cleric or oracle.

Sumak Wonderfoot:

Halfling Rogue

Abilities:
STR: 10
DEX: 18
CON: 12
INT: 11
WIS: 14
CHA: 12

Traits:
Underworld Explorer: +1 Know(dungeoneering) and Survival and Survival is a class skill
Trap Finder: +1 Disable Device

Feats:
Weapon Finesse

Skills:
Acrobatics +10, Disable Device +9, Escape Artist +8, Know(dungeon) +5, Perception +8, Stealth +12, Survival +7, Bluff +5

I am working on my oracle right now. It does not look like I will be changing jobs, so why not try a fourth game? And it looks like one of my games is in trouble anyway so the net result might be no change at all.

DMCuc, let me crunch the numbers, looks fine so far! Bill, glad to hear your Oracle will be joining in!

For the skills, I did add in all the racial stuff that I did not put in his crunch.

Shadow Lodge

This is the build that I am planning on playing. Magus

I will change his backstory to give him a more mercenary feel and may change him into an aasimar.

Here is my alias, I am still working on everything else, I just wanted to update here.

This Merck.
Redited my magus. Mostly ready now but still missing the backstory.

I'll plug your numbers into Hero Lab for verification - and I thought I said core races!

I'll wait for your backstory before the ruling!

I'll know tomorrow if I can join.

Shadow Lodge

Whoops, sorry. I missed that one.
Was tempted to play a scoundrel tiefling but tiefling do not work for an enlarge person build. So I went with an aasimar with a bad atitude insted. To tell you the truth I picked up the race because of the "nickname", got the idea from this character in the link below when you said cowboy up...
IMDB LINK

I will try to adapt some other race, half elf will be a excelent match I think. I will download the player's guide to check the traits.

Here is Sumak's backstory, there is plenty of room for how I meet up with the group, as I have not finished the ending of his story until we all agree on how we met.

Backstory:

Sumak Wonderfoot was born and raised in Magnimar in the Halfling community. Throughout Sumak’s life he was told about the greatest explorer, dungeon crawler, adventurer, and archaeologist that the world has ever known, Indiana Baggins. Sumak grew up listening to these stories about how he single handedly killed a dragon, found lost knowledge of the Azlanti Empires, and how he discovered various unknown islands, deep under the sea, that were believed to be lost forever. Sumak knew this was his calling. Due to his poor status in society, he had to learn to fend for himself, and instead of exploring great dungeons and caves, he began to explore the rich peoples’ houses and businesses. Sumak became quite good at picking locks and remaining completely undetected by the home owners. Due to being a Halfling, he also grasps climbing and reaching places that should have been impossible for him to reach. He became bolder and bolder, breaking into houses at times other would never try it, and he was always successful. Despite breaking into multiple houses, he never stole anything, that wasn’t what he wanted, he wanted a real adventure, and after years of using his imagination he decided it was time to go on a real adventure. Rumor had it that Indiana’s big break came from the city of Wati, where only the best of the best could explore the ruins and the ancient city. Sumak left for his grand adventure with everything that he could must together, and headed for Wati. When he finally made it to Wati, he was gravely disappointed to find out that he needed to be a part of a group of adventures, he never remembered hearing about the great Indiana Baggins needing anybody else. Sumak spent several years trying to find a group to join, but other always laughed at him and turned him away because he was a Halfling, and couldn’t hold his weight.

Ha, Indiana Baggins? What did he search for buried religious relics in between second breakfast and elevensies?

Yep! He is only the single greatest explorer in the world, with a massive appetite! haha

My time is freeing up, so I should be able to play. I can fill in any role you like what does the party need? My preference is bard or cleric for this game though. I'd need to look at archetypes.

I'm finishing up some editing on a book before I send it to my editor this weekend. I won't be able to put a character together until Saturday, if that works.

I thought I was going to be able to join this game, but on second thought, I don't want to over commit right now with the games that I run and play in.

I want to use the time that has freed up to begin writing the follow-up eBook to the one that I have coming out soon.

I'm sure I'll follow the thread. Good gaming.

Shadow Lodge

Still hitting my head against the wall with background for my character but crunch is finished.

Where I am with background so far:
Albus was born in Watis, he is a drow half-blood from the poorest part of town with a bad attitude and that used to get him in trouble. He was caught breaking in the necropolis to steal from the dead (something he had done before a couple of times) and had to run away from the law.

Now that the government has made his old job legal he probably is the one who convinced the group this was easy money (poor lads...).

On a side note one of the campaign traits (Trap finder) gives the ability to disable magical traps.

Now that Baldwin, needed to bow out, is there a role that is not filled, I can adjust my character if needed?

I am in the same boat with Merck; the crunch is mostly done but I am still working on his back story and personality.

Azubah believes himself to be a cleric of Aroden, who is still alive but has chosen to hide himself for some mysterious reason. The church of Pharasma has chosen to claim that he is dead for some mysterious reason and they have suffered for this by no longer having access to dependable prophecies. Azubah sees the lottery as a way to observe the church of Pharasma and investigate their interest in claiming that Aroden is dead.

He has healing spells but does not channel energy is not very combat-focused. For at least the first few levels he will concentrate on healing and buffing the others.

Shadow Lodge

So far we have:
Magus
Investigator
Oracle (ancestors)
Rogue

We have skills more than covered and also face and healing. Between magus and investigator we should be fine in the arcane department. Looks like we need a tank. We could recruit from people we know also.

Bill, if you are considering a caster build for the oracle check out the dual cursed archetype. Its 2 extra revelations are nice.

That is a tempting idea, especially since I was vacillating between the haunted and clouded vision curses.

DM Cuc wrote:

A tank is still needed and we can roll with four if you're okay with that. The investigator is a great class that bridges the rogue and alchemist class and gets plenty of skill points.

If we need to open it up we still can. Baldwin - if you still want to play in the future I'll hold a spot for you. You might be able to ride to the rescue someday!

We could look for another player, or I could change my character to be a warpriest if needed.

Either way, let me know so we can get the post up if you'd prefer to play Sumak.

I am curious to what other people think about getting an additional player. I just really like this group we got playing together lol

I think more players is beneficial to the game because it increases the positing rate and, as a result, decreases the inevitable dormant periods that we all love so little.

Shadow Lodge

I usually prefer parties of 6 rather than 4 exactly because of what Bill said. But I m also fine with just the 4 of us too if you guys think its best.

Shadow Lodge

Ok, this is a first draft of my background. Sorry for the grammar mistakes I kind of brainstormed it. Since I am using other people's characters in it I thought I should post it here first for you guys to check if its alright. It still have a lot of holes in it and can be changed for an easier blend with other people's stories.

Angel Eyes:

Son of a tavern maid/hooker from bargetown Albus never knew his dad but from him he got his strange eyes. They have an almost white blue hue and can see in the dark like it is day. His mother used to call him angel eyes and the nickname stuck.

Since he was born a boy and could not follow his mother's trade he joined a gang, the wet blades, and dedicated his childhood to meaningless fights and petty crime like theft and pickpocketing in Watu's markets. Somewhere along the way he discovered an afinity to magic, another legacy from his unknown father. Self teaching himself the paths of the arcane from "borrowed" books and trading gold for knowledge with the town's hedge wizards he managed to achieve moderate success as a spellcaster.

Upon reaching adulthood Albus had specialized in breaking into the necropolis to steal artifacts from the dead and sell them on the black market. All was well until his luck ran out and the Church of Pharasma caught up with him. He had to leave town in a hurry or face the law.

On the road the half elf started working as hired muscle: caravan guard, mercenary, thug... Eventually he met Rameth the delver, a respected explorer with ties to the Pathfinder Society, and started working for him planning one day joining the society himself.

When word came out that Osirion's goverment had made his old job legal he convinced his partner this was easy money. It was also an excelent chance for him to earn the favor of the society. Back in Watu they joined forces with Azubah, a mad oracle who was also looking to explore the necropolis.

I do like Sumak, so I am okay staying a rogue and letting DMummy recruit a few more people. I am struggling to figure out where Sumak runs into anybody or how he gets with the group. I figured he made his way to Wati several years ago and was disappointed to find out that, at that time he was not able to explore the necropolis. He took up odd jobs, usually with petty criminals to make ends meet.

It's really only a single person to fill the tank need. Not that I don't think there'd be plenty of applicants. I'll ask in the other game I'm playing, if any of you know someone looking for a game who wouldn't mind playing a tank, let me know.

gear is up to date, with weight and gold let in his profile. Just need to plug him into a character sheet to get the rest of his offense and defense stats.

I've asked in my other game to see if there's any interest, we'll see if I get any bites.

I like Albus's story so far, especially since I have had trouble figuring out how to establish that Azubah knows the others in the group. I plan to flesh out Azubah a bit soon but it might be a few days before I have a good opportunity to do so.

If anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them. The suggestion for dual-cursed was a good one.

Not to throw too much weight behind my suggestions, but something you guys might consider is that since you're all mildly ne'er-do-wells and could know each other through reputation or rumor.

On the other hand, while you have to have formed a group prior to showing up for the lottery drawing you don't necessarily have to have known each other outside of Wati. You could have met and hit it off trying to find others or a group to participate for example.

A fun idea (to me) for Azubah is maybe one of the ghosts following him around knew Rameth, maybe even was wounded during a disastrous tomb-raid and that led Azubah to find Rameth and Angel Eyes.

Sumak may have been in the city for a while and was scamming people by claiming to be a native guide and ended up behing hired by Rameth and Angel Eys or Azubah.

I like those ideas, especially about the ghost having known Rameth. This makes the curse something more than just a mechanical hindrance.

Hey guys sorry for being absent

Ok I will have to read up on all the ideas so far

Cuc I will change my trait since you have the trap finding one

Okay, I can always change mine and look for something else, I don't really need the magical trap but I wanted the bonus to disable device lol

Ok tell you what take a look and see if you want that one or another and one of us can change
