Moving up to the door, Alikia conjures up a ball of goopy acid, before she slings it at the one trying to flank Hyram. "Take that you -hurk-" Gagging at the smell of decaying, acidic flesh, Alikia almost looses her meager breakfast as she catches sight of the now half-faced crusader. "Oh god. Aladir continues to fire arrows, but misses. Alikia hurls a glob of acid, and damages one of the zombies on Hyram, half eating it away. Quinn helps Hyram but killing the one in front of Hyram. Ezro scans the room, trying to conserve his magic for the battle that he knows is coming. Hyram hits the zombie he hit before and returns it to its dead state.

The three remaining zombies attack Hyram and Quinn, but they do not land any blows.

Oh, okay. I didn't know if it was unique to a specific rank or a specific person we might recognize.

Quinn collects one of the sashes from the fallen Eagle Watch soldiers. "Our own fall. We are weakened and the enemy gains strength. Even now we go to destroy our most potent defense before the enemy can turn it to their own use." He pulls the sash, his anger threatening to tear the garment. At the top of the spiral stairs, a wide hall stretches for thirty feet before ending in a door. Two alcoves on both sides of the hall hold torches that burn with white light. Each torch illuminates a pedestal, on each of which rests a battered and broken steel helm.

Yeah, Aladir and I both went nova on this guy, and hit with good rolls. That can burn a solo enemy quickly. More than one full attack from this guy would have been death to anyone though. So, it was definitely worth pulling big guns.

The the mangled helms on display were, until recently, the helms of the first two crusaders confirmed to have died in the First Crusade. Jeslyn has destroyed both of the helms and then artfully arranged the ruins here.

Alikia roll the number of images please.

Ezro calls upon Iomedea healing power and Hyram feels better. While he does this, Alikia figures out what the helms are and then casts mirror image on herself. Aladir quaffs the potion of invisibility that Quinn gave him.

Quinn moves to the door with Hyram directly behind him, and he flings open the door. Directly in front of you is the alchemist from downstairs. Behind him is a woman with a scythe in her hand, and directly behind her is the wardstone.

This circular room’s original purpose is unclear, but now it seems to be a trophy hall of some sort. A low stone pedestal sits on the floor in the middle of the chamber under a domed ceiling. Atop the pedestal is an iron, barbed cage — and within the cage sits a chunk of softly glowing white stone.

Ezro casts a spell on Quinn, improving his strength, which allows the Paladin to smite Othirubo and damaging him significantly, but not killing him.

Eeep. I think we might all be about to get sprayed with shrapnel.

Quinn steps over the corpse of the fallen tiefling, taking in the appearance of Jeslyn. His own appearance seemed startlingly common next to this creature. In fact, she seemed to be almost an amalgamation of different pieces of demons all mashed together.

Frickin campground wifi went down for several hours and just came back, about 30 seconds before I was ready to post this !!!!! ARGH !!!

Very long post. Read carefully, lots of useful information

Wardstone Will Save; DC 23: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17

DM rolls:

20d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 5, 1, 3, 2, 1, 3, 5, 4, 3, 4, 3, 6, 6, 2, 2, 3, 6, 3) = 69

Alikia begins to cast a summoning spell, while Hyram moves into the room and swings at Jeslyn, but misses. Ezro casts a spell on himself that will allow him to better handle combat and steps into the room next to the woman. Quinn takes a step and readying his shield, activates its blinding ability.

All this is for naught however, as Aladir moves quietly and stealthily next to the Wardstone and touches it with the Rod of Cancellation.

You had been told by Quednys Orlun back at the Eagles Watch headquarters in the Defender’s Heart Inn that this would drain the last vestige of power from the wardstone, severing its connection with the rest of the wardstones, so that the wardstones could not be corrupted by the demonic forces.

How wrong they were.

Round 0: Immediately when Aladir touches the Rod of Cancellation, the wardstone fragment is destroyed. It explodes in a blast of golden light and you hear the sound of an angelic choir. Hundreds of razor-sharp shards of stone spray outward, destroying the cage the fragment was inside off and deals significant piercing damage to Jeslyn. The explosion miraculously avoids harming all of you, however you are completely healed, all daily use powers have been replenished, all spells have been restored, but you are stunned and not able to move at all.

Round 1: While you are bathed in a glowing golden light, you begin to glow that color. You see a vision of all along the border, other wardstones flash with golden light as well, momentarily supercharging their effects. Thousands of demons are destroyed by the flash of light, and many more are wounded. The attacks along the borders suddenly cease, and the surviving demons flee back into the depths of the Worldwound.

Round 2: You receive a vision that you completely understand, of the first wardstone being erected in the Kite here in Kenabres in 4639 AR, in a ritual involving the aid of the Hand of the Inheritor — the herald of Iomedae: a golden, winged angel with a halo of small swords around his head. This event happens soon after the First Crusade begins.

Round 3: In the year 4665 AR, you see a vision of a 20-year-old Hulrun leading the burning of dozens of supposed “witches” in the courtyard of the Kite before the wardstone. This event launches the Second Crusade.

Round 4: In the year 4692 ar, you see a vision of Khorramzadeh the Storm King leading a brazen attack on Kenabres. The Storm King manages to strike a resounding blow with his sword against the wardstone, which suffers only the tiniest of cracks as the balor’s sword shatters. Khorramzadeh is then attacked and forced to flee when the silver dragon Terendelev nearly kills him — this event launches the Fourth Crusade.

Round 5: In the year 4712 AR, you see a vision of Irabeth chasing a burly dwarven man — Staunton Vhane into the courtyard containing the wardstone. Both paladins are heavily wounded, and as Staunton backs against the wardstone, smoke rises and he screams in pain. He ducks to avoid one of Irabeth’s blows, then manages to smash her knee with his hammer, dropping her to the ground. Staunton seems ready to deliver a death blow, but the sound of approaching soldiers forces him instead to back away and summon a fiendish giant wasp that he swiftly mounts and then flies away to the north, abandoning Kenabres.

Round 6: You see a vision of Minagho, a beautiful demonic woman with a long thin tail, clawed hands, and curling horns protruding from where her eyes should be, placing the wardstone fragment in this room and of Jeslyn using a wish granted by Minagho to create the cage around it before Minagho teleports away.

Round 7: You see a vision of an event that you know will now never happen — Areelu Vorlesh using a deep purple Nahyndrian crystal the size of a human’s head to corrupt the fragment, causing the entire border to flash with nauseating mauve fire that devastates the border cities and transforms countless crusaders into half-fiend slaves of the Worldwound. You realize that the demons’ entire plan was to draw as many crusaders to the border to defend it from their attacks, in order to maximize the damage this event would have caused.

Round 8: Areelu activates a device called an imago lens in the Abyss that allows her to use a project image spell to appear before you.

Before you stands a somewhat transparent beautiful demonic woman with batlike wings, a horned brow, and glowing red eyes. She regards you a smoldering, furious expression, then says, “this only delays your kind’s extinction. But at least I can take steps to hasten your own.” and she casts a spell. Jeslyn starts to gag and choke, grabbing at her throat as if she cannot breathe. Areelu continues, “the death throes of your wardstone seem to be protecting you from my magic. No matter. They cannot protect you from my slaves!” With this, Areelu spreads wide her arms and a rift tears open in reality. A half-dozen babaus tumble through into the room, and beyond them you catch a glimpses of even greater demons preparing to enter — vrocks, glabrezus, even a marilith — when suddenly the energy infusing them pulses back outward. the powerful energy hits the Abyssal rift and slams it shut — Areelu screams in pain as the magical feedback tears into her body, breaking bones and shredding her wings. An instant later, her projected image vanishes — her connection to the Material Plane has been severed and she has been wounded, but the six babaus that managed to clamber into the Material Plane before the rift closed remain and immediately attack begin their attack as you recover from being stunned.
