Hello all, I am about to play in my first PBP game, as this character.
I mean to level him from Barbarian immediately into 4 levels of Sorcerer, then go Dragon Disciple. The campaign is core only, and it's going to be a lot of fun.
I am not going to change the build, and am not open to different character build options; save perhaps a different feat, or maybe ideas about different armor choices for early level survivability.
The stats were rolled, and I had to choose to dump different stats, which is a welcome challenge and a fresh change from the usual point buy games I play in. I'm very happy with how it all turned out.
My only concern is that I have never truly played out a character whose mental scores are in an array like this one. He has a really good CHA, a low INT, and a horrid WIS, and in the campaign, I will have to role play out my weaknesses, which I'm fine with and happy to do.
This issue makes me think of the paladin syndrome. They're so MAD that they have to dump -some-thing, and usually that's INT. That's kind of what I ended up doing here with his mental stats. In this vein of recollection, I do remember there is a good paladin optimization guide which talks about how to roleplay a paladin character's mentality without being a detriment to the group, and actually playing the character smart, even though he is dumb.
TL:DR-I'm not a paladin, but I want to play my dumb character smart. How is this achieved? Especially taking into consideration my high CHA score. Specifically, how would he talk?
EDIT: I mean to role-play him dumb, but in a smart, savvy way, for absolute clarification.
Also, a side-paranoia: I'm somewhat concerned about his early level survivability. He will be a Sor 1 next level, and I'm probably going to have him learn Enlarge Person and Burning Hands as his starting spells. There is a cleric in the party, but that doesn't neccessarily mean that he can't ever die...
>>>If you want to read the backstory, that might provide extra insight on the themes currently present in his psychological profile.
Thanks for the input and wisdom!

How low is low? Same with horrid?
Average any stat is supposed to be 10. If you are 9-11, you are normal in that stat, just not one of those freak adventurers with a score in the 30s.
Being Cha as top stat means people will/should listen to you. You will not always have the best ideas (that low int) and might not always listen to the smarty pants (horrid wis). That kinda mental stat usually says noble ish guy. Entitled, not much study, not much common sense (example, axe is best friend, who cares a club is better to break the skeleton). As you play and grow with the fellow players, lessen the "I am not gonna listen" as you should come to respect the opinion of Mr smart spells over there. He does know what he is talking about, even if he is not as great as you.

That 6 wisdom? That's easy to explain. You're an adventurer. Of course you don't have much in the way of common sense, and you won't be able to figure out very well when people are lying to you. You're likely to take them at face value unless you have a reason to distrust them.
The 8 int isn't so bad. I think of it as an 80 IQ person. You are still in normal ranges for intelligence, just a little lower than most people. You're not a books guy. You don't go for elaborate plans, or thinking ahead.
This does not mean that you won't take some precautions, or that you won't learn from experience. You meet a skeleton, and you'll remember that you should bash them with something blunt.
As for people skills... You're the guy with presence that intimidates people even when you don't intend to intimidate them. You can also charm people (diplomacy untrained) but don't usually think of it...
Does this help?

THANK YOU HMM.
I really just need a reference point to build a framework of interpretation around.
Anyways, the campaign, she begins! Feel free to follow and comment on my characterization, in the very small off chance that you are invested into this character at all.
Thanks everyone, you're all beautiful.

You know, truth is you might consider going Oracle instead of Sorcerer. Battle Oracle, perhaps? Combine it with that 18 STR and you'd have one hell of a scrapper on your hands. Additionally, Oracle will allow you to continue wearing your light (barbarian-approved) armor.
... but that kind of hijacks from the question of how to roleplay him. *grin*
For some reason I'm picturing Mr. Furious from Mystery Men, now. Clearly there's a Ben Stiller vibe going through this thread. :)

You're welcome, and yes, I am.

Seriously, glad that I could be of assistance.

Yeah I'm building him into a dragon disciple, so no go on divine casting. I do love me some firefly however and Jayne is a pretty good reference point for negative wisdom and intelligence mods.
Unrelated note: I'm in China right now, and I just ate moldy chocolate cake, thinking it would help relieve my migraine. I didn't know it was moldy, until it was all said and done. Moral of the story: If you ever find yourself in China, make sure you pick the right slice of cake. Or just eat dumplings instead, because they are amazing.
