Epik |
Epik struggles to shake the lethargy of the demon's life sapping gaze, "Jenya, if my companions do not want the restoration, I would be grateful for your divine aid."
"Dalamus, I think we can return to the room we were at before to complete our rest. No need to risk battling the giant."
"Let us finish our rest. I will take the first guard shift."
Nemoris |
Second watch for me again as well. I also need a bit more healing, as I'm sure some of the rest of us do.
I'm not opposed to talking to the giant again, we did just draw attackers off from him and most likely save his life yet again!
Let's pick a spokesperson and have a set goal in mind this time. Do we want him to aid us, give us information, or just be still?
Magma Iron Clan |
i am still down 24 hit points
i will burn my 2 channel energy
1d6 ⇒ 5
1d6 ⇒ 5
and my 2 cleric spells heal spells who is down the most?
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Sama'el Val'varen |
Hopefully Nemoris or someone else will come with to protect my back, if not I may not go confront him alone
Before the Fervor ended I would have cast an Extended Mirror Image
Images - 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
I will also stay out of his melee range while having this discussion and I will be ready for any signed his going to attack
To Dugobras "Listen here giant, you are chained here with no chance of escaping on your own, we have offered our help at truly no benefit to ourselves, yes you may have some information that will assist up but with or without it we will be moving on."
Sam pauses to let that sink in, "The only way we can assist you is if our wizard is able to get enough rest to memorize the spells needed to release you, your hammering is stopping him from doing that."
"If you want our assistance, and it is the only offer of assistance you are likely to get in this hellish place, you will stop your hammering and allow us to rest and then we will come and work on your freedom, if you do not stop hammering than there will not be another attempt to help you."
"You decide if you want to live, or die down here chained to the forge, it is entirely up to you"
DM Fflash |
Dugobras seems to ignore Sam as he talks, continuing to hammer away and as the tiefling begins to turn away (or move to your next course of action), the giant stops and heaves his hammer over his shoulder letting out a breath of air that sounds like a bellows.
"Your wizard is preparing a spell to release me? Could have used that information earlier." He pauses, looking like he might say something else, an angry look on his face, but instead says, "Alright then little elf thing, I'll spend the next few hours working on rune inscriptions and enchantments ... shouldn't make much noise. But should the wizard's spell fail, I'm back at the forge. I have a week's worth of work to free myself ... every minute lost is ... well, a minute lost. I'll see you in a few hours."
He lays his hammer on the anvil and moves to his chest, apparently dismissing you.
No Fort Save necessary for Nowzai or Dalamus
Sama'el Val'varen |
For some reason I thought that was the plan...well hell, I could memorize it then after a night of rest, I completely thought you had it
As for the UMD of 28 it wasn't enough even though to activate blindly is only a dc 25, so I am not sure if my dispel will be enough or not, but we can only try, or just kill him and loot his s%&&...either way I don't care
[edit] - Only had a 27 not a 28
Nemoris |
I'll go with Sam, I'll also attempt to gather the remaining cold iron arrows from the combat and then rest as well. (I counted 6 missed shots, maybe 7 depending on the AC of our last foes):
1d2 ⇒ 1
1d2 ⇒ 1
1d2 ⇒ 1
1d2 ⇒ 2
1d2 ⇒ 1
1d2 ⇒ 2
1d2 ⇒ 1
That'll put me down to 84, then back up to 89.
I can't see anything I could do to help with freeing the giant, but if I may aid, I am willing.
DMFflash |
The party rests in relative quiet for 4 hours allowing Nowzai and Dalamus to catch up on their full rest (less spells Nowzai cast during the last combat)
The silence allows the awake party members to keep tabs of the growing horde of demons outside from the safety of the caverns. Mostly brimorak and wretches, a few larger demons begin gathering and cajoling the smaller ones into loosely organizing into groups, trying to encourage them to enter. You count 40 or 50 and growing.
Post actions for freeing the giant and for post wakeup explorations under separate headers. We will.flex time them ... unless of course you decide to attack the demon horde. In that case, one post is fine and I'll start soliciting a new character :)

Epik |
Exploration
Epik will request that the others join him in exploring the hall north of the southwest room, "Compelling voices called to me from the room beyond the door. They may have been genuine calls for help or it may be a trap."
He carefully approaches the door and will open it when the others are ready.
Giant
Epik will cautiously watch the giant as Sam casts the spell. "As we promised, we are doing everything possible to free you. Do not betray us."

Jenya casts 3 CMW on Dalamus 3d8 + 24 ⇒ (5, 4, 6) + 24 = 39
Reminder, the agreement when we brought Jenya in the party is that you'd give me direction of what's she will cast/do. Just say, Kenya cast a cure light etc.
Freeing the Giant
Sam casts his spell. With a crackling sound, the energy rope disappears and the shackle falls off Dugobras' ankle. On the other side, a metal plate falls off the forge, 50 small runes now visible on it.
Dugobras stares incredulously for a moment and then stalks over to his chest pulling out a sack. He gathers up his hammer and armor pieces and puts them in the sack throwing it over his shoulder.
He pauses, not quite looking at you, but rather over your head, throwing a large iron key to the ground. "Thanks. You can have what's in the chest for meeting your promise."
He then proceeds to walk out.

The Smithy
Dugobras responds to Epik, "As I told your demonic companion, I don't know how they did it. Those buttons, symbols and magic. There was no key. As for the cages, I'll keep that to myself unless you free me. I sense that information would be exceptionally valuable to you and could put me at extreme risk from my former employers by telling you."
He did say he would tell us about the cages
Nemoris |
I'll delay this until we're done talking to the giant about his cages
Well, that was... a bit less grandiose than I thought it would be. I think we need to discuss how we're going to proceed. The demon horde outside looks like it may mean our demise if we delay much longer.
DM Fflash |
Freeing the Giant
The giant turns and stops as Magma calls out his questions, "Ah, yes. My soulcages. I was contracted by a strange man, Khyron Bonesworn, and aided by a gnoll priest to build 13 of those. I ultimately made 15 completed ones and 2 destroyed prototypes. That's one there ... the rest I turned over to him. The device extracts the souls of the imprisoned over a course of time, harnessing and transforming that soul into potent necromantic energy. To what purpose, I do not know, but the man who contracted me was the leader of a notorious band of undead adventurer bandits here in the area. He also enlisted the aid of a former Cauldron guard and a halfling wizard to defend the area we were making them. He alluded that his masters were bringing a time of reckoning was coming for Cauldron once the children were found. He intimated that I should leave soon." He shrugs.
"I don't really care about what he intends to do, but the note about the children seemed a bit too far. You look like you may be interested in getting involved with that sort of thing ..."
He'll leave unless you have questions
The chest contains the following: 280 platinum, 4,380 gold, 12 pieces of amber (100gp ea), a +1 arrow deflection heavy shield (emblazoned with the face of a wold biting the shaft of an arrow), a wand of lightning bolt (CL7: 17 charges), 3 potions of cat's grace, 3 potions of protection from electricity, and a divine scroll with magic fang, hold aniimal and remove disease.
Exploration
Dalamus has already searched the first door for traps and Epik has proceeded down the hallway to the second door. Dalamus finds no traps on that door as well.
The Throne Room
The north portion of this room contains a 7-foot-high platform connected to an L-shaped ramp. A strip of bas-reliefs depicting gaunt, magic-wielding, serpent-like six-armed creatures decorates the base of the platform. Each creature holds a disk in its lowest set of arms, which is represented like a shining sun. The rays emanating from the disks, engraved in the stone as straight lines, form the background of the composition. A white marble throne with triple armrests sits on the platform itself.
Stepping, or rather floating, down from the platform as you open the room are three androgynous winged white-masked humanoids wearing golden armor. They are resplendent in their presence, carrying long thin straight horns in their left hands and glow with an unearthly light ... they speak together, the words appearing in your mind, although their mouths seem to move as well.
"Mortal-born heroes! Thank you all for clearing the temple of the demonic influence and rescuing us from our imprisonment. Epik, your dedication to your goddess is well known to us and we thank you for leading your party to our aid breaking the millenia-long seal on our cage. Before we depart, we offer you this elixir of our collected tears. Please, drink, and be rewarded."
The lead angel carries a massive golden chalice in his/her off hand.

Freeing the Giant
"What you say is very troubling and your complicity in this wickedness is equally disturbing. Rest assured that we will seek and destroy your patrons whom commissioned the cages. Saving Cualdron and its benighted children is our highest priority."
Epik will then nod a farewell to the Giant, "May you change your evil ways and find the path to redemption."
Epik looks for a method to disassemble or destroy the cage.
Exploration - the Throne Room
Epik bows before the otherworldly presences. "I am but a humble soldier of Iomedae. Please tell me the nature of your imprisonment. Who would do this and why?"
Epik will detect evil on the beings.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Epik calls out the creature behind the throne to the others.
"What trickery is this?"
He draws his weapon and prepares for battle.
Jenya will cast two restoration spells on Epik after resting.
DM Fflash |
Jenya didn't get a second rest (24 hrs required), so the 2 restorations she had previously are it ... I've added her current spell status to her character page on Roll 20
Freeing the Giant
Dugobras looks at Epik stone-faced for a moment and then nods in return before he departs.
You are able to disassemble the cage, and toss the individual pieces in the forge where they melt to slag fairly quickly.
Throne Room
The angels speak in your minds again, Fear not, mortals. It is but a planar being from the plane of mirrors, brought here by a mirror puzzle to the north of us. While not entirely friendly, this nerra varoot means you no harm. He's just being cautious.
Epik does not detect evil

I would have liked to cast a couple of buffs before we moved into an area we hadn't been before, but if I can't let me know
I would have Cast Fly and Long Arms
Sam pauses at the voices in his head begins to nod before shaking himself violently
Disbelieve - 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
"Beware my friends, we have been warned of false angels and false sisters by many people both friend and foe, I refuse to believe that this is anything but a trick!"
Sama'el Val'varen |
Yup sorry, I would have tracked the point on my spoiler but I can't expect you to know everything I am doing, I will be more clear
Also, not sure if I am allowed to roll a disbelieve or not based on what people have said or if something else would have to happen first
Cat's Grace won't stack with my belt of dex correct?
Epik |
Throne Room
Epik lowers his sword, "They are not evil my friends, so perhaps we should risk trusting them."
Epik extends his hand to take the chalice, "What effect will this elixir have?"
Sama'el Val'varen |
ok thank you
"Epik, just because you cannot sense their evil does not mean that they are not evil, there are many spells that can hide someones true self, remember what Nidrama said and the painting we found of Surobar Spellmason fighting a demon and three female creatures. Take nothing from them!"
Any knowledge roll to know what a Nerra is?
Nowzai al'Nazari |
Nowzai grabs Epik's arm before he can grasp the chalice. "Beware! The deva Nidrama warned us of her false sisters, they who make this place home." Nowzai peers at the 'angels' intently, trying to pierce the illusion.
