"Killers, but your point is well taken. Zelda thinks they might be using the riots as cover for more murders? It would be a pretty easy time to get away with a few ritual sacrifices. Any suggestions on where we should start?"

"You ask too many questions Holyman. Find your balls and get out there", the huge ulfen laughs.

Kalam grins and takes a deep drink of his flask, "Some of us are forced to rely on questions in lieu of overwhelming bulk my friend."

He looks to the others, "Well if we must. Lets grab out gear and meet upstairs."

Making his way quickly to his room, Kalam grabs his new armor and other equipment. Jogging to meet the others once they are ready.

Once assembled he strips off his coat and begins strapping himself into his breastplate. He gestures to Ceinwynn, holding a strap "Don't suppose you'd mind giving me a hand my dear?"

As he finishes with his armor, he talks to the others, "So, do we have any thoughts on where to start? I might suggest the Bazzar? Rather not wade into the thick of a riot right off the bat..."

*Ring* *Ring*

Halsanna was checking the fit of her new armor, and cinching straps here and there as she settled it into place. "I'd rather not have to put arrows in people just yet", she said neutrally. There was a new bow leaning on her hip, next to where she usually kept the quiver of arrows. Looking at her quiver, she shook her head. "..definitely not enough for a riot..", she mumbled to herself. While she was not at her best, she was steadily improving, thanks to Abramov.

"What are we looking for?", she asked Kalam, having chosen to remain outside the room for the questioning. "The guards proved rather unwilling to chat." (Presuming he relays the information)

"Murders.. Is the location significant? Do they need to be within proximity to the riot? What is in the center of the area of the riot? How much of a 'ritual' does the sacrifice entail?" As usual, Halsanna was narrowing down what she thought were the relevant questions, knowing little of how magic worked.

Abramov packs up.Before he goes, he gives all his vials a good shake, checking the level of murkiness to see if there's nothing wrong with them. All seems well and he joins the others.

"The act of killing is almost always a clinical one. The instrument of death, the method of applying the mortal stroke and of course all the other details such as place and time, are all things thought through before the actual event happens. Deducing from the fact these boys and girls are trying to use a runewell, either it is located around the dock area and thus the effect is felt strongest there, or their target is there and they've focused their resources on the dock area. The best disguise for a killer is when everyone around him is just as much of a killer.."

Let's discuss this on the way to the docks?

Ceinwynn steps over and assists Kalam with his breastplate, teasing him a bit by pulling the straps extra tight then winking at him. She slides into her armor as well. "Lead the way."

Kalam gives Ceinwynn a smirk as she tightens the straps, Easy now, I'm rather more tender than a hay bale my dear."

Taking a sip of his mead, Kalam set out towards the docks, talking as they go, "Based on the professor's suggestions and our killers general success up to this point I'd say our riot is more side effect than planned. The runewell is probably somewhere nearby. Not to say that they won't take advantage of the distraction. Lets just hope we can avoid the worst of the crowds while we check things out..."

The party arrives on the streets to find the Docks in chaos. Buildings burn and looters pillages storefronts in broad daylight. Small groups of overwhelmed guardsmen can be seen struggling to subdue even a fraction of the troublemakers.

Perception checks please.

Ceinwynn follows the others, keeping an eye out for trouble. Her mind is a little distracted by thoughts of her missing lover though. Has something happened? Did he just take off without a goodbye? Her mind was definitely not as clear as it should have been. Stop this Ceinwynn. You are a professional.

Her thoughts are gladly interrupted by Kalam's words. "What a bunch of idiots..."

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Halsanna was all business when they reached the docks, which was helped by the receding headache. 'Sweep the immediate area. Sweep further out. Identify possible routes of ingress and egress.' It always helped to be prepared and she was at her best when she had a plan.

Both Halsanna and Kalam notice a beautiful taldan woman standing apart from the crowd, watching the chaos unfold around her. She stands near the entrance to an alley and, though her face is passive, her eyes twinkle with amusement. Hanging from her belt, a pair of long knives clatter against her hips.

Male Human Inquisitor (Infiltrator) 3 (SoF Included) | HP 28 / 28 | AC 22 ; T14 ; FF 20 | | CMD 19 | F +4; R +3; W +5 | Init +4 | Per +8

Kalam gestures in the woman's direction with his head, "Aside from the Lady Yil I'd not expect many people to find this sort of widespread anarchy funny. We do know one of our friends is rather fond of knives."

He takes a large swig from his flask, gesturing off in a different direction, "I'd rather not simply say hello, lets head past, see if she decides to move on? At least try to get a glimpse down the alley..."

Provided there are no objections, Kalam begins heading down the street, , past the woman, wary to avoid looters, keeping his attention elsewhere until either she moves or they draw level with the alley were he might get a look at anything that might be behind her.

The doctor falls in behind Kalam. Desperately he tries to keep his nerves under control. The urge to sneak around the block and find himself staring at the woman's back, with dagger in hand, throbs like a painful reminder of how vulnerable they are right now - walking past her, possibly straight into a trap. But sometimes you need to do things the wide-eyed stupid way.

Ceinwynn casts message on Halsanna and Kalam then follows them while keeping an eye on the woman. She looks for any distinguishing marks or clues to who she is.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Halsanna trusted Kalam to keep his eye on the woman, while she was looking more at the area that she was near. The alley only had one access point from this side, barring the buildings to either side of it. Given the proximity to the riots, it was also likely that they had passed this way, but were unlikely to reach this area again. Out of habit, her eyes lifted to the rooftops of the buildings in this area. There were likely to be people up there, but for what reasons?

As Kalam heads down the street, the woman excuses herself down the alley. From Ceinwynn's vantage point, it looks like a coincidence - Kalam hasn't been made. Halsanna spots nothing out of the ordinary near the roofs.

A moment later, a pack of rioting sailors come barreling around the corner. With eyes full of madness, they charge toward the party clutching clubs.

I'll just roll with it, but Abramov moved up to W-26 last round :D otherwise it would've been impossible to throw the vial.

'It is too early for people to be dying', she thought sadly, but that did not stop the automatic motion of her drawing another arrow and snap-firing at the two rioters on the edges, to prevent Abramov and Kalam from being threatened on both sides. Her words did not deter the individuals, so she had no more to spare.

Cein charged to where Kalam wanted to step so I left him where he’s at.

Collectively, the party makes short work of the rioters, breaking bones and inflicting other grievous wounds. When it’s done only one remains but he appears undeterred by the group’s overwhelming prowess.

Suddenly something like a whisper can be heard in the air and a subtle pressure can be felt on everyone’s thoughts.

Everyone needs to make a DC 11 Will save. If you fail, you’re confused as the spell except instead of babbling, you curse vehemently.

Her internal monologue turned outward, Halsanna manages to hold forth at some length about the time of day, angry rioters, and stupid people that are not smart enough to know when to stay the f#$% out of the line of sight of a capable person with a bow who would rather not be putting arrows in people at this time of day. Why, if they had any common sense at all, they would go the other way and stop trying to accost people with their F#$%ing clubs, and find some other poor sap that would probably be dignified enough to take the beating with some semblance of dignity, instead of resisting with deadly force. After all, if this kept up, she was likely going to run out of arrows, and then she'll be forced to stab a motherF#$@#r, and then where would the day be? Shot all to the hells, that's where! They were just lucky that instead of aiming for faces and eyes, she was content to send arrows into legs and hips rather than potentially kill several individuals who would probably benefit humankind by removing themselves from ever procreating. Of course, if they were content to have themselves removed, by all means, all they had to do was to continue to remain in line of sight, and if this new girl did not stop her speech-making enough to realize that she was indeed firing arrows, she would be fine as long as she did not cross in front of her, because then she might be unlucky enough to be on the receiving end of an arrow from her bow, and at this rate, she would not be too saddened after, and why the #$%^ was she cursing so much?

Even as she continued to hold forth at some length, Her face was reddening at the things she was saying, though she did not stop what she was doing, taking a step forward and firing two arrows at the man that came out of the alleyway at Abramov's side. "'I used to be a rioter!'", she said with some anger at the man that was poised to attack Abramov. "'But then I took two arrows to me!'"

Sighing sadly, Halsanna went about checking the bodies and attempting to retrieve the arrows she had fired. While she did not think many would be worth salvaging, waste not, want not. "Poor bastards", she shook her head and set about pulling her arrows out of the bodies, then checking their pockets. Only three of the arrows were usable, but three was better than none. With a bow of her head, she offered a small prayer. "I'll stand ya the first drink, boys."

Raising her head, she felt for where her flask used to be, once upon a time, only to remember that it had been lost and she had not the time to replace it. "Forgive me", she murmured apologetically. Leaving the wounded and dying looters behind, the party takes off down the alley after the suspiciously interested woman. Following her trail down the damp filthy alley isn’t difficult and it exits back out onto the street roughly a block further north. The riots are intense here and everywhere pockets of rioters can be seen fighting the watch, looting, or even fighting each other. The woman can be seen across the street, casually striding through the bedlam.

Before the party can continue the chase, a trio of guardsmen intercept the party. They’re bloodied and haggard but the familiar gleam of supernatural rage is visible in their eyes.

”That’s far enough. Lay down your arms. You’re all under arrest”, one barks.

Another twitches nervously and levels a crossbow.

Well that was less impressive than I'd hoped. I'm assuming there's no surprise round as everyone is pretty twitchy, otherwise it's a partial charge to the same effect, they should be in range, yes?

Seeing Kalam’s refusal to surrender, the guards attacks!

”It looks like we do this the hard way!”

The twitchy one levels his crossbow and fires!

Shot vs Kalam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

The other two advance with melee weapons.

Longsword vs Kalam: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Halberd vs Ceinwynn: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Everyone but Kalam is up.
