Such rookie tactics! A real wizard enlarges himself so he has STR18 and 20ft reach with his reach weapon! The enemy triggers AoOs so you get an attack in the round you cast the spell .. and from there on, you either attack OR aid another the frontliner for a whooping +4 to AC vs one attack! And a real wizard can bring forth a sphere that grants all his allies a deflection bonus to AC!

.. and at level 3 with the bodyguard feat, he can make an AoO whenever an enemy within reach is attacked ;'D

Fear the 1d12+4 (or 6, if enlarged)~!

Male Arrancar

reach wizard probably isn't terrible. reach clerics probably work a little better but it does still improve your action economy a bit.

also, enlarge is a 1 round cast time. i don't think you'll be making many attacks of opportunity while casting.

I really just wanted to play an abjurer, but they get jack s!&# until banishment/dismissal so I came up with this as a run-up to it. I also had an arcanist laying about who uses (magical) songs to enhance his botanist career .. so Jalias is a bit of a Frankenstein ;)

Male Arrancar

a longspear is a great early weapon for casters. probably underused.

It sure is, sadly wizards are only proficient in a handful of weapons. The arcanist luckily doesn't have this drawback .. but I'm set on playing an abjurer :) updated my gear as well - I spent: 811.5gp out of the 1051g I had, leaving me with 239g and 5s.

snapdragon fireworks makes for a great dazing spell. better if you can get dazing on a rod and heighten it. are you progressing from here as wizard or sorcerer?

Oh god, that's all I need is to ramp Milo up to even more obscene levels. I'm actually kinda afraid to cast burning hands now, it does such a horrible amount of damage for his level.

The intention is to go all wizard from here.

I just took the snapdragon one cause it was a nice visual as a manifestation of the draconic side of his 'curse', not because I intended to do much with it.

For the GM:

So I was looking at my chronicles vs the character sheet I typically keep in excel, and for some reason my gold amounts were a fair bit out of whack.

After following the money trail, it turns out it was a math error on the chronicle sheet you gave me for the previous scenario (Frozen Fingers of Midnight)

Going from the first Sub Total to second one, you added the 161 from Items Bought, instead of subtracting it. This put my total on the chronicle sheets high by 322 gp.

Final gold total should be 1731, not 2053.

This new amount will be the starting gold for this latest scenerio as well then too (instead of the amount I previously stated)

So I gave a little extra gp I just didn't want you to torch me. Thanks for pointing it out. Sorry for the operations error.

Hmm... so the 2nd PbP gameday is coming up in a month.
Any idea if we might finish this before that? No clue on what sort of progress we're making as it took us a month to get this far, and things seem a little slower paced.

Milo participated in the 1st gameday, would like to participate in the 2nd too!

Let's hurry and get this done. I am responsible for slowing down a bit, as my work as turned up a notch recently with no sign of slowing down soon, but we can make this accelerate. You are just starting on Act 3 of 5.

The PbP gamedeay does allow for games that start after April 4th (or whenever so long as they are complete by the end.)

Male Arrancar

upon further review, it occurs to me that any spell with an attack roll can already be a sneak attack, so i will be making a tiefling divine trickster.

also, tobi has a really low initiative so i figured i'd wait to see if i even needed to swing at all before figuring out how i'll do that around all the bodies.

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

I will as well, soon enough.

M Human Commoner/1, Expert/1

Do clerics have many attack spells, though? I suppose the inflict spells would be, but what about at range?

Male Arrancar

not many, but you don't really need that many. just a few decent scaling options. also... admonishing ray.

it's basically just non-lethal scorching ray, but clerics/oracles get it. all the rays have their own attack rolls so they can all be sneak attacks.

Mustering for PBP Gameday 2 is happening now. Games must start after April 1. Do you guys want to hang together for another scenario that we play for boons etc there?

If so, which? I have been trying to knock out the year zero scenarios first and several left to run. Could also do a scenario like Master of the Fallen Fortress if you want a little longer commit.

Grand Lodge

N Gnome Wizard 10 / Sorcerer 1

Every scenario Milo has done has been from season 0 (and all have had ghouls! Though it looks like this one will break the undead streak)

I'm happy to do more with him to keep up S0 streak (though have done some of the other early season ones on other chars)

Which ones do you have left to knock off?

Running, there are still plenty. Easier to list the Season 0 ones I have run already, so they are off the list:

00-01 Silent Tide
00-02 Hydra Fang (duh)
00-04 Frozen Fingers
00-05 Mists of Mwangi
00-06 Black Waters

That leaves (in tier 1-2):
00-03 Silken Caravan
00-07 Among the Living
00-08 Slave Pits of Absalom
00-13 Prince of Augustana
00-14 Many Fortune of Grandmaster Torch
00-17 Perils of Pirates Pact
00-23 Tide of Morning
00-24 Decline of Glory

I have played Slave Pits of Absalom and it was fun, but don't know much about the rest, yet. Vote if you want, or write in your favorite from another season.

Male Arrancar

haha awesome. i've also been charging season 0 with three characters. unfortunately i've done or an already signed up for 03, 07, 13, and 23. i'd be glad to run Slave Pits of Absalom though.

also... does the Milo observe the situation? is that what it does? lol.

I'm up for another PFS scenario. These PFS runs have been giving me a clear idea of what works and what doesn't work in a pbs format :) Jalias will ding lvl2 after this adventure, but can I still remake/tweak stuff about him? With the incoming xp?

Sorry for all the PFS noobie questions.

Male Arrancar

yup, you can completely rebuild at no additional cost (though you can't get back any consumables you've used or the money for them) up until the first time you play a character above level 1.

Scarab Sages

Male Half-Elf Wizard 1 | 8/8HP | AC12 | T12 | F10 | F2 R2 W1 | +1 Perc | +2 Init | CMD15

So even though this point of xp causes me to ding, I'm fine rebuilding him and 'then' leveling him up using that point of xp? Good lord, sorry for going on and on about some really boring rules xD

M Human Commoner/1, Expert/1

I was thinking this semester would mean I had to drop out after the end of this scenario... But honestly I'm having second thoughts now. I've been managing to maintain a decent posting rate so far. I'd like to continue Archy's climb through the levels, and hopefully apply some credit from my RoW and Runelords games to level him up further and be able to sink my teeth into some higher level scenarios.

Also I don't think I've played any of the above aside from Silent Tide, Hydra Fang and Frozen Fingers.

Scarab Sages

Male Human (Keleshite) Druid (Saurian Shaman) 4 [ HP 31/31 | AC 21/T12/FF19 | Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +6 | Init +4 | Perception +9 ]

I've played Among the Living with another character, so that's out if Darvan sticks with the group (would be nice, but hardly a requirement).

Male Arrancar

Jalias, you don't even have to get creative and delay applying the XP. you can rebuild him until you start his first game at level 2 (or any other level above 1 if you happen to use GM credit and/or pregen credit to level in bursts).

Milo's done Decline of Glory

So looks like we're down to 3 scenarios that are free for everyone, should it come to that....

00-08 Slave Pits of Absalom
00-14 Many Fortune of Grandmaster Torch
00-17 Perils of Pirates Pact

Of the three, I know nothing about any of them! So all are good.

Unless someone disagrees soon, it will be 00-08 Slave Pits. I will get it registered and get a thread to dot soon. We won't start until this one is done or the April 6th date of kickoff whichever is later, so you can bring these same characters to the next one, if you like (or you can totally re-boot them again...if still Lvl 1).

Male Arrancar

sorry, guys. very long weekend. will post later.

Hey Doc, just checking in to say that I'm heading off camping tomorrow and its quite possible that there'll be a week of radio silence on my part. If I can post via mobile I quite likely will, but just a heads up if I'm uncharacteristically quiet. Please bot me if I'm uncharacteristically quiet and I'll check in whenever I can.

Will do, Twigs. Enjoy!

edit: That should be 50gp, I believe... (one short of 75!)

Milo also made some purchases before hand...
And would like to make a purchase at the end as well

(bought at the start)
smoked goggles (10 gp)
alchemists lab (200 gp)
scroll of endure elements (25 gp)
scroll of obscuring mist (25 gp)

(and purchased now)
scribe from Archibald: burning disarm (10 gp)
scribe from Jalias: magic weapon (10 gp), endure elements (10 gp)

(3 wizards in one group is sexy for filling up the spellbook =))

access and scribing for the spell Recharge Innate Magic (15 gp) ... tossing the produce flames was fun! Turns out there's a gnome-only spell that will allow me to do it more often!

access and scribing for the spell Blood Money (15 gp) ... was reading through my Rise of the Runelords and saw it in there, so why not!

Total spent this scenario: 320 gp

I have a few comments to make on the scenario though!

I was surprised you rated it so low to be honest, I thought it was alot of fun for the most part.

The first bit, with the girl and the two thugs in the loan sharks place was a bit lame design-wise, but the girl had some flavor even if she suffered severely from the PFS staple of NPC's going up against overwhelming odds unwisely....

The second fight on the dock was a bit meh...

But once we got the row boats, it was very cinematic and suspenseful, and thus fun! (The sahuagin had me really worried when they went for tipping the boats first! And the whole approach on the Hydra's Fang, with folks rowing, and shooting covering fire, and climbing the sides, etc, was great! There was so much going on it was fun to see!)

Admittedly, the fights ended pretty fast, and Du Moir cowering and pleading for his life at the end without even a fight was a bit of a let down... but honestly, probably very in character and more realistic then what usually happens.

And of course, ghouls!

My main issue with this scenario, was the general real life response time... by the GM and the players. It seemed horrid.
Of course, I don't have a ton of pbp experience to know exactly how quick these things should be moving along, but this one seemed noticeably slow. (Perhaps because I found the action exciting and wanted to find out what was going to happen!)

The previous scenario we did took under 6 weeks. This one took over 10.
This last fight for instance, took 4 days, for one round of combat... I know I check relatively frequently during the day when we're in combat to be ready to post when needed, so as not to hold things up... but apparently not everyone has the same access I do.

Just people's response times seemed much better the last scenario is all.

Ran a RL game at the local hobby shop today, so I didn't get your Chron sheets finished. I did get my first GM star! Hurray!

The chron sheets are done, I just need to find time to scan and upload them tomorrow. If you have any purchases, you can LMK. The gold is 456 at 1-2 tier and you got both PP.

Milo - speed of posting was probably my fault. I have been slowed down enormously in all my games due to some work responsibilities, and it really dragged down this game. I am evaluating cutting back, but will waint until PbP Gameday is over to give you a shot at 00-08 Slave Pits of Absalom.

Glad the scenario came of as fun for you, if a little slow. The writing was not very good, from the intro on. I thought the intro lacked very much info for you. I thought the first encounter was weak, the underdocks was basically unnecessary (though you could've talked your way out of that). The sahaugin was a bit random and not very well explained (they were seeking revenge on DuMoire for killing their wizard friend Myraxis). The rowboat thing was mostly of my creation after the vehicle rules were pointed out.

DuMoire was supposed to be a spoiled rotten rich kid out for a good time, until things went against him, then a cry-baby. Hopefully that, which was against type, came through a bit.

I guess the writers have to have ghouls in every episode, so the last encounter was also a bit random.

The pieces, I guess, were greater than the sum of the parts to me. It was a series of random encounters without a lot of thread to hold it together.

I have played the next module Slave Pits, and it was a pretty good one from the player chair. Hopefully runs as well from the GM side.

Happy Easter! I'll have Chron sheets and a link to discussion for next game up tomorrow.

I think I'll pass for the next game. I got a good amount of games going on and the lack of roleplaying depth in PFS might not be my cup of tea. Plus, I got some stuff I have to focus on the coming months.

Thanks a ton for the game! I did enjoy it, and we'll see more of each other in Lein's game ;)

Scarab Sages

Male Human (Keleshite) Druid (Saurian Shaman) 4 [ HP 31/31 | AC 21/T12/FF19 | Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +6 | Init +4 | Perception +9 ]

So Darvan has a little less than 1000 gold, which is probably not enough to get much, if it's even available.

Right now, he's got a MW scimitar and a club he uses when he casts shillelagh, and he's using hide armor and a darkwood shield. In the future, my plan for him is (primarily) to use his standard-action summons (with augmented/superior summons feats) and wild shape for melee (possibly eventually getting wild armor for that).

So, a couple of questions:

1) Does anyone know if PFS druids can use anything other than padded, leather, or hide armor? E.g., can they use wooden, leather lamellar, etc.?

2) In your experience, is it better to go with leather for mobility or hide for an additional +2 AC?

3) What special materials are available, if any, other than dragonhide (which seems to me to be a waste)? Specifically, is darkleaf cloth an option?

4) Is it even worth it to invest in an expensive set of armor until he can afford wild shape armor (16,000 gold minimum)? He's not going to be able to wild shape for a couple more levels, but when he does, he'll be able to transform into a deinonychus, which should be fairly effective in combat (20 Str, but only 14 AC (+2 Dex, +2 Natural), unless he can get rings of protection/bracers of armor/amulet of natural armor/hide barding).

Thanks for any feedback.

Grand Lodge

N Gnome Wizard 10 / Sorcerer 1

1) as long as its not metal, you're good to go. Though why you'd want to wear stone armor I'm not sure. =)

2) if you're going to go medium, go all the way to the dragonhide breastplate for 6 AC

3) yes, you can buy darkleaf

4) no idea, not invested much research into the druid thing...

Scarab Sages

Male Human (Keleshite) Druid (Saurian Shaman) 4 [ HP 31/31 | AC 21/T12/FF19 | Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +6 | Init +4 | Perception +9 ]

Well, that helps quite a bit, thanks. I'd forgotten that you could do a dragonhide breastplate.

Darvan will go ahead and (with selling his hide armor) buy a dragonhide breastplate for 1000gp, for a +6 AC, which gets him to a 20 for the next few levels. When he has the money, he can enchant it and his shield, then (eventually) put a wild enchantment on it.

I think that'll work for the foreseeable future.

Eh, my home scanner is having issues tonight. I will wait until tomorrow to get your Chron sheets out. I will link them here. Closing the Gameplay thread, and next scenario link is here for those going on.
