I'm now intrigued to know what you do for a living. Powerline maintenance in New Brunswick, Canada?

I'm a combat medic in the US military. So in essence I was out "camping" and training in the snow and sleet for a week. It was all last minute. :( Oddly, it is also the reason I first got into Play By Post. My first deployment, I was not able to get any gaming going on my off time, and so I sort of started experimenting with trying to run things online. Since I couldn't really do tings like Skype, as internet is terrible, I went with this, and I literally sort of learned from scratch. That's also why after most games, I try to get as much input as I can get for improvement.

Shadow Lodge

Answering the riddle in common, does nothing, though repeating it in Dwarven causes the door to slide open, reveals a large, long hallway. At first it is pitch black, but shortly after the doors open completely, a soft warming greenish light begins to glow throughout, slowly increasing in intensity until you can see to the end.

Shining columns, exquisite statuary, and elaborate dioramas of battle scenes adorn this majestic hall. The figures stand in small niches in the walls and range from dwarven infantry to mounted cavalry riding all manner of beasts. Gold filigree, metallic plates, and ornate steel inlays decorate every aspect of the grand hall. Pristine marble floors run the chamber’s length, and halfway down the hall, twin flights of stairs sweep up to an elevated walkway. Orbs of magical light rest in sconces along the walls of the chamber, and at its far end a large stone stele is visible.

Dwarves only, Will DC 999999999:
You feel the intense and nearly overwhelming desire to drop to your knees and weep at the sheer beauty of this long lost craftsmanship. A single tear rolls down your face, as you see this, . . . this inner sanctum, this monument to your people.

As you take your first step inside, suddenly both of the nearest statues, both enormous dwarven warriors and heroes of a bygone age, seem to awaken. Their stone heads turn to look at you as if they where flesh, and seem to come to life.

In an ancient dwarven dialect, practically forgotten in it's anacharisticness, the say, "Speak to us the riddle of stone.”"

All, OOC:
The "Riddle of Stone has been utterly lost to time. In essence, according to the scenario, it is impossible to answer, which automatically leads to a combat. Secondly, I wanted to point out that according to the scenario, they are both Huge. I'm making them large sized, because well, Huge just doesn't fit, but keeping their stats as is, otherwise.

Know Arcana DC 27:
These "living statues" are the forewarned Guardians of the Stele. They are constructed of reinforced stone and metals, granting Hardness 10. Otherwise, (outside of the next spoiler), they are not particularly unique, save that they are Constructs, and thus immune to everything a Construct is.

Know Arcana DC 32:
They have also been engineered to allow them to plow through multiple smaller enemies, getting the Trample ability. Feel free to peek at the "DM Notes" at the top.

Init rolls:

Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 Oooooh luckyyyy

Dhastrach hesitates a brief moment, almost wanting to pull out his journal to write down the findings. However, once the stone statues block the view, he shakes out of the stupor.

"These arre tough! Hit them harrd!" Dhastrach cries out, taking a step back and casts prayer.

Prayer:
40ft. radius. You bring special favor upon yourself and your allies while bringing disfavor to your enemies. You and each of your allies gain a +1 luck bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saves, and skill checks, while each of your foes takes a –1 penalty on such rolls.

Moved Dhastrach with a 5ft. step. I *think* Dhastrach doesn't provoke an attack of opportunity, but in case he does, he'll try to cast defensively.
Casting defensively (DC 21): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33 Holy moly these rolls...

Can't take too many hits like that, ouch!

"So much for liking dwarves." Little Foot growls in pain, as the guardian statue smashes him with its stony fist.

Since I'll probably die if they both trample me, going to work on the assumption that one of them is better then two, and gang up on the one Oloch hit (aka #2)

He steps in closer to the second statue, and calling a command to Fairbeaks as he does so. He and the axebeak both attack the same statue.

statues, at least i can deal with those. stupid riddles...

ramen springs into action, running up #2's arm, leaping into the air and vaulting over his back ( or trying to )

(jump w/ acrobatics to avoid aoo and make the jump). +12 from haste for movement increase to the jump. have 1 or more ki, so my jump counts as running even though i'm standing. tumbling at full speed adds +10 to the DC... so deducted 10 from the rolls. a highly cheesy view of acrobatics, but i'm a desperate little ninja, so asking if you allow it. if not, he just tries to tumble and gets smacked.

acrobatics vs. #2's CMD+5 : 1d20 + 22 + 1 + 12 - 10 ⇒ (3) + 22 + 1 + 12 - 10 = 28
acrobatics vs. #1's CMD : 1d20 + 22 - 2 + 1 + 12 - 10 ⇒ (2) + 22 - 2 + 1 + 12 - 10 = 25

not my best rolls...
i start to tumble , and likely get smacked by both of them. drawing their AoO's.

on the off chance they're low CMD statues :

Spoiler:
Ramen slashes at the end of his movement with my +1 wakizashi.
attack: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 11 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 25

Shadow Lodge

Sadly, that doesn't make it, leaving Ramen in an incredibly tight spot, right n front of two very angry killing machines.

AoO vs Ramen (AC 21): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28 <HIT>
Damage: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (6, 1) + 15 = 22
AoO vs Ramen (AC 21): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28 <HIT>
Damage: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (2, 4) + 15 = 21

You manage to put one of the creatures down, with everyone minus the Axebeak focusing on it exclusively, but the other, instead of slamming it's massive fists at you, instead decided to plow on through.

It uses the Trample ability, which will allow you to make a choice. You can take an AoO (with a -4), but that means you automatically take damage, or you can try to take half damage with a Refl Save. It's one or the other. It is going to affect Ramen, Theo, Oloch, and Guilford. (Celie and xebeak can both take an AoO if they want, as they are not hit by it. Axebeak is too large, Celie is flying.)

Trample Damage: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (6, 6) + 15 = 27

Figuring that the situation needs their best warriors able and standing. He casts cure serious wounds, holds the charge in his hand, moves over to Oloch and places his healing hand on the half-orcs arm.

You know, I do distinctly remember someone saying just how easy this one has been. . .

I also still need an action from Oloch, (took an AoO, but not his actual turn) and also Theo, (who I assume stands up and grabs his weapon, but wanted to make sure).

The massive statues plows through most of you, and in some cases, devastatingly, though your counter attacks manage to draw a little "blood" as well, sending off small bits of stone and metal as the creature rushes past you.

In the brief respite as it turns around, those able to heal amongst you ply their trade, saving, at least potentially, some lives, until it attacks again. . .

Kinda was waiting to see what the grease did and how Oloch's action resolved...

The first to know if it were going to be prone, the second to know if Oloch moved up to it to attack and if it used its AoO.

Little Foot's eyes flutter open, as Ramen's heal stops the worst of the bleeding.

Swearing angrily, he looks around to assess the situation as he slowly and painfully gets to his feet.

Seeing Guilford create the magical grease, and Oloch move in to continue the assault and hopefully draw the AoO, he calls a rather complex series of commands to Fairbeaks.

Handle Animal to Push: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26

He then slides to the side, behind the door, doing his best to hide himself from the creature's immediate view, leaving his tetsubo where it lay.

Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

Move action to push animal companion to attempt a combat maneuver, another move action to stand, then 5' step southeast out of sight and hide!

Fairbeaks, for his part, squawks angrily at the new unusual commands, and takes his annoyance out on the statue as he does its best to comply and push the unappetizing foe off the edge of the bridge.

Fairbeaks Bull Rush, Haste, Prayer: 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 1 + 1 = 30

Perhaps the grease will give it a circumstance penalty to its CMD or Fairbeaks a bonus! Anyway, trying to push it Northeast and off the bridge.

edit: If there was no AoO used up, this attempt would be doomed to fail... so would just have him attack twice instead

Umm, Dhastrach healed Oloch for 16 hp. And how can he make a full-attack? And furious focus applies only to one attack per round.

Why would he not be able to make a full attack?

Retcon:

I didn't not take out the furious focus on the second attack, so that toHit is actually 24 ... if he gets a second attack. If not, he will use 1 fervor as a swift action to Heal: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 1) = 7 further bringing him to 40 HP before waiting for the construct to re-enter melee

you can't full attack, cause you'd have to move to attack at all, the statue's not in the same location! (see the map)

If Oloch's not going to move in to fight:

... thus the statue still has its AoO to use... then Theo would not try to get Fairbeaks to use a combat maneuver, and instead the bird just attacks twice as mentioned.

Fairbeaks bite, PA, Haste, Prayer: 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 9 - 2 + 2 = 26, for 2d6 + 11 - 10 ⇒ (2, 4) + 11 - 10 = 7 damage (DR included)
Fairbeaks bite: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17, for 2d6 + 11 - 10 ⇒ (5, 3) + 11 - 10 = 9 damage (DR included)

Theo will have also picked up his weapon (instead of trying to push the animal)

Oh yeah ... Oloch won't intentionally enter the greased area ... with his heavy armor and lack of skill there is little chance he would remain standing; however, if he delays, doesn't he still get a full attack when/if the construct comes at him?

You could delay and full attack if within range. Grease only covers a 10' square, so conveniently the creature occupies all of those squares.

But if the statue fails its acrobatics check (DC 10), it might not be able to move at all. Which would be really good.

The Exchange

Delay and ready are different remember

You'd have to ready an action to attack when it comes near.
And you can only ready a standard action, not a full round one. So no full attack possible

If you delay, you don't get to go until after the Statue has finished its entire turn, but is a regular turn otherwise. So full attack possible, but does not guarantee its in range anymore either, so you'd end up in the same boat.

Pretty sure the grease is directly under the statue, not on the squares in front of it... so no one has to stand in it to attack.

Hmmm ... hadn't though about that, so I would need to delay until after the construct to get in my full round of attacks right? Not sure that is worth it. So ... Oloch would ideally use the heal as a swift, then move if he can engaged without getting into the grease, then take his single attack.

Heh... not unusual at all to get the delay and ready actions mixed up. Not to mention the standard action only on a readied action. See it all the time.

So, I have good news and bad news. Well, not too bad. I'm in the field again, actually right now as I type, so at least I have some internet. :) So, that being said, I do have (minimal, crappy) internet, and I can update some, and also work on Chronicle Sheets.

But, at the same time, I will not be able to post as fast or as much a I normally do. I might have to hold back a little on adjudicating the rolls a bit, (to minimize posts getting eaten or not going through). Also, can I get everyone to please post any spells or uncommon special abilities they use in a spoiler, as I can easily look at links.

Oloch delays, hoping to force the beast to come to him, while Theo orders his animal buddy to go all out. It retaliates, striking at the Axebeak with it's battered fist, sending small bits of sand and dust around as it swings. It can't take much more, but it can still kill with a lucky blow, and is far from no longer being a threat.

Slam vs Axebeak (AC 19): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21 <HIT>
Damage: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (1, 2) + 15 = 18

After nearly breaking the massive bird's neck, the statue begins to step closer to the party, but it's partially shattered legs twist, cracking below it's weight and it tumbles to the ground with a massive thud of stone on stone. Can't see or update the map. :( Please keep in mind that's a +4 vs it with melee attacks, BUT it still threatens even though prone.

Acrobatics: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1

ROUND 3

Statue 1 (-46)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Ramen (-47), Guilford (-27), Oloch (-33), Celie (), Dhast (),
& Theo/FB (-54/-18)

Dhastrach grins as the statue falls. Still, knowing he can't really hurt the statue with his hammer, he decides to heal Oloch some more.

Cure Serious Wounds: 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (4, 8, 7) + 6 = 25hp healing to Oloch (spontaneous casting, replacing communal resist energy)

In case Dhastrach has to move and take an AoO, so be it.

The Exchange

N Dwarf Ranger 9

I think Fairbeaks is providing Dhastrach cover, so he should not provoke AoO... especially while prone

Question: Does the fact the statue tried to move within Fairbeaks' threatened area provoke? Or does the fact the movement failed for other reasons negate it?

That 15' reach is a b**$~... don't suppose Guilford has a bull strength he could spare for the bird? Though he's probably unconscious next round, so would only help on this set of attacks.

Fairbeaks shakes his head, momentarily stunned by the mighty blow, then emits a furious squawk, and lays into the prone statue with even greater ferocity.

Full-round hasted attacks for Fairbeaks
Fairbeaks bite: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16, for 2d6 + 11 - 10 ⇒ (2, 2) + 11 - 10 = 5 damage (includes DR) (Yay for prone, that should hit!)
Fairbeaks bite: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29, for 2d6 + 11 - 10 ⇒ (4, 2) + 11 - 10 = 7 damage (includes DR)
confirmation: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27, for an additional 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (4, 5) + 11 = 20 damage

(edit: not bad! 32 damage after DR! Go angry bird!)

Little Foot, meanwhile, uses his wand of Cure Light Wounds on himself.

move action draw wand, standard to use it

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5.

DMB: are you remembering the penalty the statue will be taking due to Dhastrach's Prayer spell? (-1 to attack, damage, saves, and skill checks).
The trample damage would have been 1 less, as would the attack on Fairbeaks.
The save vs the grease spell should have had a -1 penalty, which would have then failed... and prone its attack on Fairbeaks would have missed. (unless it stood up first, which would have provoked).
Just a reminder!

Good catch. With all the breaks from me going in and out of the field, it slipped my mind completely. So it did in fact fall, would have attempted to stand, drawn an AoO. However, the bad side to that is that it would not have been able to then move again after its attack, so didn't fail its Acrobatics check, and so would now be standing after it's action on Round 3. It did take more damage, though.

Lets just say a lot might be riding on this AoO. . .

Ramen can do nothing useful so injured. its likely last round, but he'll pull out his prayer bead and recite the mantra. activating bless. which stacks with prayer and haste.

bless:
Bless fills your allies with courage. Each ally gains a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear effects.

prayer:
You bring special favor upon yourself and your allies while bringing disfavor to your enemies. You and each of your allies gain a +1 luck bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saves, and skill checks, while each of your foes takes a -1 penalty on such rolls.

far too late to matter, but from the map image itself, i'd be curious if there's not a map key somewhere that says 1 square = 10 ft. that might explain fitting the huge creatures in the small area.

Wow, nice spot. That explains a bunch of things if true!

edit: Also, not sure if you're wanting an AoO from the bird or not... am a little confused about the state of things... but will give one, just in case. Ignore it if not relevant.

Fairbeaks AoO vs Prone AC: 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 9 - 2 + 1 + 1 = 13, for 2d6 + 11 - 10 ⇒ (2, 5) + 11 - 10 = 8 damage (includes DR)

AoO on statue standing (if relevant) : AC 13 vs prone, for 8 damage
Full Round Attack (with haste, prayer, bless, and bull strength)
1 : AC 19 for 8 damage
2 : AC 32 *possible crit* (AC 30 to confirm) for 33 damage

Will you choose a portrait to your character? It helps to quickly identify the post's writer.

Scarab Sages

I have an avatar for Amsheagar, but I can't figure out how to add one for Celie without making a whole new alias

Shadow Lodge

Click on the Pathfinder Society button on the top left of the screen. Once that loads, go to the "My Pathfinder Society" link at the top menu, (beneath My Downloads). Next, scroll down, and find the character in question from the list, and it the Edit button to the side. I'd suggest Right Clicking and Opening as a new tab, as finding an avatar you want can take some time, and might time out. Once you do, just note the page it's one incase you need to do it again.

at 5 i've got a nagaji naga aspritant 5 or a musket master 5
also have a kitsune ninja 7, or a fetchling rage prophet 7ish.

we don't have a rogue, so how about I go with the kitsune ?
musket master has some lock skills as well.
i'm cool with the nagaji as well, haven't gotten to dust him off in a while.

Scarab Sages

I guess no one has Disable Device...? Rogue's trapfinding is useful only if there are magical traps.

The Exchange

kitsune has about a +13 and some face skills.
musket master has a high dex and prob about +10 disable. and well, a gun. though he may be 6 now. =/
rage prophet may still be 6th, but has an adamantine weapon for locks.

Scarab Sages

Since the scenario is Tier 5-9, it doesn't matter if one or some are 6th level or a bit higher. Actually it's rather bad that nearly all of us are just 5th level.

But yeah, I guess the kitsune would be the missing piece of the puzzle.
