Jim meets Dibbets' glance with a matching one, then turns back to their guide. "How long has this Gorilla King been around, Nkechi?"

"You've never heard of the Gorilla King?!" Nkechi asks incredulously. "You really have no idea what you're doing here. The current King is Ruthazek, but there have been Angazhan's spawn along the shores of Lake Ocota since time immemorial and a line of great warriors sacrificed and reincarnated as dire gorillas to rule them all the way back."

Jim shakes his head relaxing. Not likely to be Kaul, at least. "They don't teach of such things in Taldor, and none in Freeport that I met spoke of the Mwangi Expanse as more than one vast uniform jungle. And I knew we'd be doing more than just a bit of wet work in Bloodcove, I would've read more about the place."

He pauses as Nkechi's words sink in. "Sacrificing great warriors, you said? Tell me more about that--and if you've ever heard of a spirit called Tum-bobo."

I'm going to assume that there was time for Dibbets to heal everyone up.

Mighty Joe Tum:

Kaul grins at the assembled monkey-men and Tum in turn as he leers at the nubile captives;

"Hooo-Hooo. Hur-Hur. Me like them very much, but King Kaul no wish to breed at the moment... First wish to hear of me subjects! An' what Great Tum wish o' his apostle!"

healed up.

"I don't think it's well known, but the Gorilla King is a corrupted human. Some ceremony in Usaro is involved, but that's all I know. Never heard of a Tum-Bobo."

"I think I know where they were headed. We won't reach it tonight, so let's camp off the trail and head in tomorrow morning."

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Grimacing and nodding Dibbs concurs "Aye, best tae take tae it fresh-like."

Nkechi efficiently gathers palm leaves and fashions a lean-to for shelter during the night and you are undisturbed. In the morning, there is no trail and your progress is slower, but you finally come across some scattered stone blocks and a crumbling vine covered wall by afternoon.

kauley see, kauley do:
"No worries, Apossle. You relax and enjoy. Let Tum take care of e'rything. Just need to know dat wid great power come great sacrifice." the idol cackles and rolls away to direct the Charau-ka in building a big bonfire.

Great Sage Equal of Heaven*:

Kaul muses on Tum's words a little...

"Hur... Sacreeficed plenty already Tum... Ain't got no hand... Ain't got no shipmates... Ain't even got me Lopper no more..."

Before the time comes to get messy, Dibbets calls a cloaking carpet of air to gird his form. At the viney wall he suggests "Let us get on aheads and takes a peep first eh?"

Stealth at +11, Perception at +10

James "Madman Jim" Patterson wrote:

"They're not particularly organized, but nothing that survives in the Mwangi is totally foolish." Right then, drumming rises from inside the ruins. Everyone freezes. Nkechi squints listening. "That isn't alarm drumming. It sounds ceremonial. We probably shouldn't take too long."

Dibbets stealthily scampers onto the wall to take a peak. He notes a bigger opening in the wall nearby that could simply be walked through. In fact, there is a trail. Above the thick vegetation, he also sees a crumbling ziggurat which seems to be the main structure within the wall.

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Making himself plain to those following, Dibbs waves them forward "Less keep together onna trail eh?"

Sun Wukong:
now where's my kudos?!

Jim and Nkechi lead the way over to the trail and pass through the wall with Dingus and Dibbetsi lose behind. Suddenly leaves and debris on the ground fly up as a barbed net snare trap goes off!

ref DC 20 or you are caught!

Male Taldan Human Free-Hand Fighter/5 Inspired Blade Swashbuckler/1+5 | AC 22 T 16 FF 17 | HP 61/62 NL0| F +5 R +7 W +5 | Init +3| Perc +7

With catlike grace (not tread; we did that joke before), Jim leaps clear of the trap as it closes.

DC 20 Reflex save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Dibbets belies his fractured leg and shares his more elongated team-mate's grace at evading the trap.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8. Reflex save

Weeeee!

Jim rolls out just as the snare goes off. He lands in a crouch ready for action. At the other end, Dibbets skips back to safety. Between them, Nkechi and Dingus go flying up to dangle 10 feet in the air. Bells jangle and cruel barbs poke and scratch.

There are hoots nearby though the drumming continues. " Those are alarm calls." Nkechi observes wryly.

Dibbets- 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Nkechi- 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Madman Jim- 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Dingus- 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Dingus and Nkechi suffer a bit from the barbs -2 hp each, but the sorcerer is quick to recover.

"Are they going to come expecting attackers, or big game?" And does it make a difference to them?

Jim can hear the hoots grow nearer. "One and the same," Nkechi states and then manages to get a spell off. A thick fog spreads out from the net concealing everything nearby including Jim and Dibbets.

Dibbs initial thoughts is to conjure a blow to clear the air... before realising that Nkechi's on his side and it might not be the best idea. Stumbling slowly through the mist, he gives Jimmer a jolt of bolstering indifference...
Aid on Jim: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 temp HP

Nkechi whispers from somewhere in the mist above. "Stay in the mist. Let them come to us and fight hand-to-hand. They are as deadly as the elves with hurled weapons and they are known to throw some pretty nasty things."

"If they hesitate and I can cut us out of this net, maybe we can even circle out and get the drop on them."

Male Human Sorcerer 6/4, Cleric 1: HP 44/(44); AC-16/14/12; F+5, R+5, W+5/+4. (Spells:3: 5/5, 2:7/7, 1:7/7) IP-17

"Hold on. This might hurt a bit, but I can lift us out of here, then maybe we can pull our own surprise".

Grab Nkechi and cast levitate extracting ourselves from the net as we go. (Assuming the top is not sealed).

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12 Dex check / Escape artist

I'll assume Jim readies. Dingus' spell required a concentration check which he made using that roll.

Dingus gets cut up a bit for his trouble, but manages to cast the levitate spell while painfully entangled Dingus-4 pierce. He holds Nkechi while the guide hacks a way out of the net for them to escape.

Waiting below, Jim and Dibbets hear the hoots reach them then take an inquisitive tone. The drumming continues in the distance.

Yeah, Jim readies an attack for the first monkey-boy that pops up. He murmurs to their guide, "Anything else you can tell us about these things?"

see no evil, hear no evil, have no fun:
"Not you sacrifice, fool Apossel. Tum talking about de human sacrifice!" the little idol leers at the captive women while Kaul's monkey minions finish building the fire and begin drumming and cavorting wildly around the flames.

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Dibbets shrinks into the mist, trying to make himself even smaller... though keeping Jimmer beside.

Great Grape Ape Show:

Kaul continues to sit on his thrown, rubbing his heavy brow...

"Hur... Ain't there some enemies we can sacrifice Tum? Ain't too sure about the innocents like... Dallywag was taken in yer name... he be enough eh? Hur?"

The brute shifts uncomfortably, but pushes the point with his guiding nut idol...

Dingus floats free of the net with Nkechi. The jungle guide calls back down to Jim. "They can get into a frenzy on the attack." The curious hooting turns to violent shrieks at that moment and a trio of knuckle dragging figures rushes toward the swordsman. concealed by mist

Blueberry Baboon?:

Are we all subject to the 20% miss chance even in melee?

Rapier out, Jim awaits the oncoming creatures in a relaxed stance. As soon as a target presents itself, though, his blade flashes out in a deadly stop-thrust, using the ape's momentum against it.

yeah, concealment to all within 5', total concealment beyond that. Impressive hit nonetheless.

Jim rams his rapier into the face of the first charau-ka to reach him. It falls backwards gargling blood. The other two leap at the man and one hits Jim with its club. Jim-5 bludge Dibbets lurks in the mist and somewhere above the melee, Dingus and Nkechi hang in midair now free of the trap.

Round 3

Made a post this morning but it got eaten by the Paizo Post Monster.

Dingus rises until he finds a sturdy place to brace himself, and keep an eye on the doings below.

He then unleashes a pair of Vapor Vipers.

1d100 ⇒ 58 Low misses

3d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 2, 1) + 3 = 7 VV

He then sends Richard slithering down the tree to unleash his own form of venomous terror.

Dingus- total concealment means just that... You cannot see more than 5 ft away in the fog.

Jim up.

Male Taldan Human Free-Hand Fighter/5 Inspired Blade Swashbuckler/1+5 | AC 22 T 16 FF 17 | HP 61/62 NL0| F +5 R +7 W +5 | Init +3| Perc +7

Damage, if applicable: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Nkechi clambers onto a branch as Dingus floats near it and begins climbing down the tree. Jim bloodiest another monkeyman and they go crazy. Shrieking and flailing, the pair encircle the swordsman and club him repeatedly. He is hit twice in the resulting flurry.Jim-7, 7 bludge

Miss chance, hi=hit: 1d100 ⇒ 20

Little Richard the viper reaches the ground just before Nkechi and tests the foggy air with his tongue tracking his prey. Dibbets leaps out of the mist startling Jim with a slap of indifference and queering his thrust.

Dingus- still up. Richard can move in. You can't see anything from your perch.
