Marius once more wakes with a start, reaching for his weapon as he instinctively rolls to the side to avoid the blow he only imagined was coming. A sigh of relief escapes when he sees the battle has ended. He gladly grabs Eli's hand and pulls himself to his feet.
"Guess so... Thanks. What a flippin' day. Feel like I had a front row seat for the burning of Endurant."
Rex sat panting near where the imp had fallen. The wolf's eyes were locked on the creature, as though in disbelief it was truly dead. Marius offered a pat upon his friend's head as he headed to try and calm the mules.
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Marius is obviously still a bit shaken up.
Brit "Chap" Norgant |
Chap takes a moment to coup de grace the imp just to make extra sure it isnt still healing before running to Arabeths aid, trying to help her get where she needs to go, and suggesting she take it easy.

Shyness bends down and grabs the necklace. Looking much worse for wear, she walks it and the skewered imp to Eli. With only the merest hint of a grin, she holds them out to him. "Yours?"
GM Angelina |
Eli successfully works to calm the mules, assisted somewhat by a still shaky Marius.
Arabeth channels holy energy, bringing healing relief to all, before helping Poterol douse the wagon fires with water.
Chap assists Shyness in assuring that the invisible imp corpse is very fully dead, before Shyness offers the tiny, invisible body and the necklace that fell from it to Eli.
Current HP, after Arabeth's channel, is as follows:
Marius 11
Rex 21
Sister Az 11
Eli 15
Chap 9
Poterol 7
Cernan 6
Arabeth 10
Aeryth 14
Shyness 8

Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |
Sometime in the midst of working with Marius, Eli suddenly slumps, seeming somewhat slower and weaker. He continues collecting the mules, even though he seems very tired, but recovers by the time he sees his cousin Shyness heading his way.
Shyness bends down and grabs the necklace. Looking much worse for wear, she walks it and the skewered imp to Eli. With only the merest hint of a grin, she holds them out to him. "Yours?"
Eli bows and accepts the gifts, a similar slight smile on his unmasked face. "Thank you, Cousin." he says, sincerely. "You fought bravely and well, and I am honored by your presence and gift."
With that, he takes the corpse and mutters something softly, smirking, before placing it in the bag with the others.
Perform (Oratory): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
"Cousins! I am grateful we are all alive! Thank you for your strength, courage, and thoughtfulness. Forgive me for the pain you endured, and know that our foe - the wicked spirit who hates the People - has perished and will not return!" he nods, bowing toward them.
Looking around and to the sky, suspiciously under the cart and in all places, with a strange glint in his eye, he intones, "Wicked one! Wizard! Akuo~Orokku! Onimajo! You have failed! And you will always fail! You fail because you are wicked and have no true spirit!" He holds up the bag of imps, as if displaying them to... someone. "None will save you from your fate! You will find peace, by the time this is through. By the Name, Fate, and Spirit of the Emishiu, this is so!"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 2
With that, Eli takes a long, slow breath, and sigh, and carefully picks up his mask. "My apologies, Calm" he mutters softly, gingerly, and apologetically, as he picks it up where he dropped it before, moving it towards his face, "there was simply" the mask touches his face, "no time to remove it deftly." He finishes the sentence flatly and without emotion, as the mask once again returns to his face.
With that, he carefully looks at the necklace.
"This is not standard wear for the wicked spirits." he states flatly.
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Though no expression is visible, the body language is clear, as Eli takes half a step back, holding the necklace at arm's length.
"This is powerful magic." he says, with no verbal trace of emotion. "I know not what type or what kind, but I recognize all the markers of mystical forces within it."
He looks at his cousins. "Does anyone else know how to understand such devices." he... asks, yes, asks. Hm. That'll be hard to understand again.
EDIT: error fixed
*Arabeth* |
Arabeth pauses monetarily from what she is doing and looks from the Imp.. to the necklace.. and back to the Imp.
"Well.. I would hazard a guess that getting so much fore out of one scrawny little body would be something rather hard pressed for. So, via said process of elimination it would be the necklace which caused our pain, courtesy of aid nefarious Imp."
No real skill. High Wisdom, though. (^_^)
Poterol |
As soon as the blaze at the cart is contained, Poterol steps to Eli and places a hand on his shoulder. "Bravely fought cousin, we should all be as vigilant."
Healing Hex-Eli: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Healed Today: Arabeth, Cernan, Eli
Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |
A masked Eli makes a nod at Arabeth. "That is a reasonable conclusion." he states impassively.
He turns to Poterol as the man clasps his arm. "I would cite grace and fortune over vigilance, but I am honored by your words and healing, Cousin." Eli states without emotion, but bowing nonetheless.
GM Angelina |
Healed Today: Arabeth, Cernan, Eli

Chap 9
Poterol 7
Cernan 6
Arabeth 10

"We should continue on as soon as we are rested and any mounts are rescued, we will need to spread out our formation as we continue you march to our destination. Poterol, if you'd be so kind to channel some of your divine healing my way and to my steed, I would be greatly in your debt." Chap wipes ash and blood from her face, although it smears more than removes it as she walks to fetch the reins of her horse.
Sister Azmaria |
Azmaria gathers her things that were dropped in the "heat" of battle. she reloads her gun with another silver shot.
Once done she takes a scan of the group then the area, wondering if they truly eliminated the current menace.
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
she then goes to see if the wagon is salvageable.
She listens to Eli's speech but says nothing.
GM Angelina |
Poterol has already used his healing hex on Chap, Shyness, Arabeth, Cernan, and Eli once each today, and therefore cannot do so again today, although he could heal other characters, if desired. If you do, Poterol, feel free to include more than one in a post at this point.
Over the next minute or so, the mules are calmed and the wagon fires are doused. You do not notice any further threat. The wagon seems to be broken, but not destroyed. (Got mending, anyone?) Eli still holds the unusual necklace, uncertain about its capabilities.

Okay, have to be more through when I go back through posts then! Healed so far Chap, Shyness, Arabeth, Cernan, and Eli.
Marius: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Rex: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Sister Az: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Poterol: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Aeryth: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Mules: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 Just grouping them together, I can make separate rolls if necessary.
Edit: O_o Oh, dice, where have you been the last few weeks?!
GM Angelina |
Does anyone have mending (or carpentry skill) to use on fixing the wagon?
If not, do you move on at half speed with a broken wagon or do you abandon it?
Is anyone trained in Spellcraft to attempt to identify the necklace?
Does Eli wear it? Put it in his bag? Or hand it to someone else?
Does anyone have anything else to say after all that?
C'mon, guys! I want to get you moving again, but I need some more player actions/decisions here. :)
Brit "Chap" Norgant |
Chap sits atop her horse, watching the road and the sky awaiting the caravan to continue moving again. "The wagon is busted, if we are really in a hurry to be anywhere let's abandon it to the side of the road and get a new one at the next opportunity."
Marius Rizallo |

After getting the mules somewhat calmed ('calm' may have been a bit of an exaggeration, given the circumstances), Marius sat down beside the wagon and sighed as he surveyed the damage.
"We could probably get her fixed up... but it's going to take a while." With a bit of spit, Marius rubbed his hands together and called on that strange power within himself. It was starting to make a lot more sense, given the circumstances of the past few days... but it still made him a little uneasy. Angelic power and demonic fire was all a bit above his pay grade.
Slowly--very slowly--the pieces of the wagon begin to knit back together as the magic takes effect.
"A long while. I'm inclined to agree with Chap, unless we really need this thing..."
Marius does indeed have mending! But it's a little slow...
Shyness |

Shyness watches in fascination as the wagon is repaired, her eyes wide. "No stop!," she says excitedly to Marius, jumping up and down slightly, clapping her hands.

Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |
After a time with no one stepping forward or doing anything about the necklace, Eli nods, and kneels praying for a time over the necklace, before rising and placing it about his neck carefully.
"A disturbing thing, but possibly an artifact of great power, the power to create large swathes of fire." he says with no trace of intonation within his voice. He nods once. "Perhaps it will be of use."

Yeah, selling it for the wealth would better suit our needs I believe
Cernan the Patient |
Also: Fire Resistance
GM Angelina |
Marius's magic slowly works to get the wagon moving again.
I'm ruling that it will take 30 minutes to get it to the not-pretty-but-no-longer-considered-broken state.
Cernan casts detect magic and examines the necklace held by Eli. He can tell it has a moderate magic aura, but he can't tell what it does.
DC 25 Spellcraft, Cernan. You can try again tomorrow. Any chance one of your not-yet-decided spells is identify?
Cernan the Patient |
Probably not; it doesn't make much sense for the character. I can always pick it up next level. Doesn't anybody else have Detect Magic, though?
Shyness |

If no one asks for anything specific of her, Shyness kneels down to watch the spectacle of the wagon being repaired. Once it is done, she pokes at the repaired parts several times, testing them.
Poterol |

I *completely* forgot about Identify. Its one of my Spirit magics, so being Lore I should have remembered... Sheesh.
Poterol glances at the necklace for a moment, then frowns. "Cousin, will you let me examine that for a moment?"
Spellcraft with Identify: 1d20 + 7 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 10 = 20
GM Angelina |
Poterol can't tell what the magic necklace does either, so Eli wears it for now, as he described above.
After a thirty-minute rest stop, during which you catch no further sign of danger while Marius mends the wagon, your group then continues on toward Resplendant, much as before, although significantly more singed, and more spread-out at Chap's urging.
The rest of the day and night passes uneventfully.
Poterol and Cernan, please make another Spellcraft check for the following day if you would try again to identify the necklace.
All, feel free to add character comments, discussion, actions, perception checks, etc.
EDIT: Arabeth, for simplicity's sake, I was lumping the horses in with the mules as one group, which happened to succeed at both reflex saves, so they should all be more-or-less fine now, unless you specifically want to declare otherwise for your mount.
EDIT2:If I remember correctly, your group has now used up 5 of the 6 silver arrows Cernan made. So... Cernan? Want to do any more night-time crafting?
Poterol |
Poterol knows from looking at the necklace while Detecting Magic that there is something about the necklace that is magical. He will try one more time to Identify the necklace.

Huzzah! Poterol, you are now aware of all the capabilities and dangers of this Necklace of Fireballs Type II (missing the 6d6 and one of the 4d6 spheres) as described on the d20pfsrd. Feel free to inform your fellows in character.

Poterol glances up at the others after studying the necklace again. "Cousin, I would advise we be careful with this item. I believe it now to be what the imp was using to cause the explosions, and it still has some beads of power attached to it. I'd rather we keep hold of it, but I am unsure that carrying it around at the present time is the wisest option. There is the possibility of the remaining beads to detonate as they did when we were attacked if they are damaged by fire." He hands the Necklace of Fireballs back to Eli. "In your hands, cousin."
If its the new day I should pour on some more healing, yesno?
Cernan the Patient |

I can craft at 1/4 rate on the road... so I think that's about 1/day, as we travel.
Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |
"Thank you, Cousin. That is sound advice. However, on the chance we are tasked against more mundane foes, I will continue to bear it for us." Eli states, flatly.
Eli continues to wear the necklace for now.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 6
EDIT: Later, to those healing others, he says, still lacking any sign of emotion, "Your grace, light, and gifts are truly a blessing, cousins. I thank you for your assistance. I've never known wounds to mend so quickly or well, or construction to move so succinctly."
GM Angelina |
You continue your journey to the Capital. Poterol and Arabeth spread the healing love, and, within a couple days, all are back at full strength. Marius continues to further mend the wagon whenever he has a chance. Eli wears the imp's necklace and carries the corpse bag. Cernan crafts silver arrows as he can. You all try to keep an eye out for danger, but often find yourselves distracted with your thoughts.
Finally, after five more days of travel, you see it: the City on a Hill, Resplendent, Gem of Theramark. It's massive. And, you're relieved to discover, it's still there.
Only those of you from York or Sharn have seen anything like the size of this city. You do not notice any obvious signs of fire, destruction, or panic. In fact, Resplendent seems to be in quite good condition, with many shining roofs, and full of hustle and bustle. At the very top of the hill sit several large gold-roofed palace-like buildings. The setting sun reflects orange rays off the roofs, and the sky is tinged with rosy light on pink and purple clouds.
It's quite a sight.
First of all, Cernan made five more silver arrows, so, those of you who used them can restock. Chap, Eli, and Marius again have two each.
Second, reset your hp to full.
Third, please discuss, in character, where you're headed first and what you're doing there. Please plan on sticking together as a group for this next section of gameplay.
It's been a while, so, in case you don't feel like re-reading old posts to gather this info, here's a convenient list for you...
Potential Contacts in Resplendent:
1. Alice Treekeep recommends her Aunt Bertha Bethel's Inn The Talking Turtle.
2. Max Gelthis recommends talking to his cousin Gerry, a writer at the Dripping Quill Gazette.
3. Father Peter recommends speaking to Pope Gregory at the Grand Cathedral of the Church of St. Pelor.
4. Captain Ronald suggests speaking to General Garrund, head of Theramark's military.
5. Lord Mayor Vertin of Vigilant suggests speaking to Lord Mayor Lincoln of Resplendent.
You have a letter to each of these five Resplendant individuals from the recommending individual in Vigilant.
Game on! :)
*Arabeth* |
Arabeth sighs at the sight of the city, though with relief or something else is hard to determine.
Having spent the previous days recovering from their encounter with the imp and its flaming message Arabeth's state of dress and care are almost back to normal. As Brit speaks Arabeth goes about 're-clasping' her cloak.
"We should seek out those of the temple. They will have places for our mounts and such. We must speak with the Church seniors. Inform them of all we know." She speaks her own mind with conviction.

As the city comes into view, Shyness' eyes go wide in wonder at the sight. But as the group gets closer and the city-ness of it becomes more apparent, that wonder starts to shift. Her steps get slower and she is slowly drifting to the back of the group. She starts shaking her head and muttering to herself. "...so many...everywhere...noise..."
Sister Azmaria |
Azmaria smiles at Shyness as she seems quite impressed with the city, This is nothing, In York it was much more crowded, and and sometimes a little dirtier. just be sure to keep an eye on your belongings. and be careful, there are a lot of rather untrustworthy people about.
turning to the group, I agree with Arabeth, we should see the people at the temple, I promised Father Peter that I would. also this city is pretty big, we really should stick together.
also the bigger the city, the more places for evil to hide, and at the same time, more places that can feed evil what it wants to help it grow.
