It's actually not Religion, surprisingly enough. Do you have Planes? If it's at the same bonus we an take the same roll.
Darius' whip snakes out, just barely long enough to slash the nearest head across the face.
It shrieks in pain, and begins to stir.
Everyone else?
Rynjin |
Planes is 3 lower
Good enough.
These are Vargouilles, strange Evil Outiders made from the heads of their still living victims, using other parts of the body to form wings and take flight. They possess a Paralyzing Shriek, poisonous bite, and the ability to deliver a Kiss that turns the victim into another Vargouille within the day.
These particular Vargouille are larger than usual, being made from the head and entrails of a Girallon rather than a humanoid.
Medium, instead of Small.
Darius Ral'algul |
Darius spits in the water, " Kill them quick, they are Vargouilles! their shriek and seize the body and they would love nothing to make you one of them with a kiss. "
Zin'Retatarianna Mor |
Fireball in the back side of the room so as to avoid hitting Darius but get all the Varghouls.
Fireball DC20: 10d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 1, 3, 2, 2, 4, 3, 2, 4) = 31
Burning: 1d4 ⇒ 3
"Kill them quick?" says Z as she manifests a tiny bead of fire in her hand before lazily tossing it into the room. "Done."
Rynjin |
3d20 ⇒ (6, 5, 19) = 30
Fire fills the room, obscuring vision for the moment. When the smoke clears, the two Vargouille nearest Darius and the rest of you lay on the ground as charred wrecks.
The final Vargouille, ironically nearest the epicenter of the blast, barely managed to escape the brunt of the blast yet it still bears horrid burn scars.
Jones and Sledge have anything they want to do? Note: The water is considered difficult terrain, so you can't Charge.
Samuel Sledge |
The moment the smoke clears enough to see, a wave of water rushes into everyone else in the room with noticeable force, as Sledge seems to shove the water hindering the others aside with sheer brawn.
He then dropkicks the demon head back into the world from whence it came.
Pummeling charging dropkick.
1d20 + 8 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 2 - 2 = 13
1d8 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26
1d20 + 8 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 2 - 2 = 25
1d8 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
Samuel Sledge |
"Easy."
Sledge checks around for treasure. And if you say "LOL IF U CAN CARRY IT NUB" I swear I will find you and gouge out your eyes with my teeth.
Samuel Sledge |
"Let's keep moving."
Rynjin |
You head to the next room.
This room seems to be infested with various fungi that cling to every surface. The broken remains of an iron walkway juts from the water, also now infested with fungi. Two doors stand high up on the walls.
7d20 ⇒ (1, 4, 18, 18, 1, 10, 11) = 63
Everyone can see three of the fungi begin to move and amble towards you once the door is open.
4d20 ⇒ (1, 11, 20, 4) = 36
3d20 ⇒ (15, 7, 7) = 29
Sledge (24)
Jones (17)
Green Fungus (16)
Darius (8)
Zin (8)
Purple Fungus 1 (6)
Purple Fungus 2 (6)
Sledge and Jones are up first.
Samuel Sledge |
tfw some of your teammates are slower than a mushroom
Also, I ain't touching those with a 10-foot-pole until someone makes some knowledge checks.
Jones Shei'lac |
Kn. Nature: 1d20 + 14 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 14 + (4) + 1 = 22

The green one is a Basidirond. They feed on mineral rich moisture...including delicious, iron-rich blood.
They have Tremorsense (which explains how they picked up on you so quickly). They can release a cloud of spores that cause hallucinations or, if they hit you, lodge in your lungs and restrict your breathing, choking you to death.
Additionally, they are immune to Cold damage, but become lethargic in the cold. They are Slowed and unable to use their spores for a short duration.
Zin'Retatarianna Mor |
Nope.
Fireball DC20: 10d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 5, 5, 3, 4, 2, 5, 1, 6) = 39
Burning : 1d4 ⇒ 4
Hit all three, avoid us. Provided Jones shares his Intel.
"I'll take care of them. Let my fore do the work then clean up what's left. "

This is like the slow insidious death part of the mansion, as opposed to the drop you 200 feet part it seems.

Jones Shei'lac |
Here, let me help.
Jones drinks a Fire Breath extract.
Samuel Sledge |
Guys. These are mushrooms and they're slow. What's preventing us from walking past them?
Samuel Sledge |
That reaction makes me hesitate.
"Everyone, move back once you do your thing. We'll take them at our own rate. Don't want anyone getting poisoned."
Basically, take your standard and then retreat, they can't be faster than 20 feet or so.
Rynjin |
So, Sledge is a wimp, Jones drinks an Extract of Fire Breath, and then the Basidirond begins to move.
It moves up next to Darius and Jones (Provoking from Darius' Whip) and...shivers.
Darius Fort: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Jones Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Sledge Fort: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Zin Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11
You stare on in horror as your body begins to melt like ice cream on a hot day. Desperately, you try to hold yourself together, to slow down the process, but you know that ultimately it's futile.
Take no actions for a round.
The room begins to get bigger, as do your companions...no. You're shrinking! You shrink down until you're barely 5 inches tall, if that. Everything around you is so large and scary, they could crush you like a bug if you draw attention to yourself!
Take no actions, and the monsters won't see you.
The rest of the group looks on in confusion as Zin looks at everyone in terror and Darius hugs himself tightly, but do nothing.
The violet fungi begin to move. Slowly. VERY slowly.
Sledge (24)
Jones (17)
Green Fungus (16)
Darius (8)
Zin (8)
Purple Fungus 1 (6)
Purple Fungus 2 (6)
Jones and Sledge again. Jones, the Basidirond is right in front of you.

GET THOSE ROLLS OUT OF HERE.

Jones Shei'lac |
Jones breathes fire at the Basidirond, and tries to catch one or both fungi in the cone if possible.
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 5, 1) = 12 Reflex DC 17 half
Then he tries to move away from it without provoking.
Acrobatics + Inspiration: 1d20 + 10 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 10 + (1) + 1 = 20
Rynjin |
Wait, Sledge failed too, just noticed.
1d6 ⇒ 3
LUCKY LUCKY!
Sledge feels as though he should be affected by the spores, but nothing happens.
You're lucky you're not holding anything.
3d20 ⇒ (9, 18, 9) = 36
Jones scorches the three fungi, and is able to move around the edge of the room, around a corner to avoid being attacked.
No need for Acrobatics, so you can save that Inspiration if you used one for real.
Darius Ral'algul |
Its your turn again because you rolled crap saves with crap init so go. I dont get an AoO because I went last.
Darius seems to be... Holding himself together, which doesnt make sense as his skin is starting to turn to fur.
Samuel Sledge |
Wait... I'm confused. Whose go is it?
Samuel Sledge |
Sledge shrugs, and charges the Basidirond.
Pummeling charge:
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
1d8 + 18 ⇒ (1) + 18 = 19
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
1d8 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24
Rynjin |
Sledge pounds on it.
3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 1) = 10
[spoiler=Sledge (on your next turn)] You inhaled deadly plant sores! You're suffocating!
Clutch your throat, hold your breath, and stand in place.
Fall prone and flail your arms and legs wildly like you're trying to swim.
You guys might have some fun acting out these things, if you wish.
Jones.
Darius Ral'algul |
No we dont its basically one and done for a while.. also if sledge fails wouldnt he be going through the same thing? In general it isnt exactly dangerous be we are pretty much out until Jones beats the fight or the effect wears off.
Samuel Sledge |
my hallucination seems to rely on holding something, and sledge fights unarmed
Samuel Sledge |
I don't see a second one. Is it in the same post? Did he format it right?
Samuel Sledge |
But where's mine?
Samuel Sledge |
Oh, sweet, that's a good one to get.
Assuming the basidorond stays within Sledge's reach:
Sledge grasps at his throat, holding his breath with all his might.
Luckily, he doesn't need his hands to kill things, and drives a boot into the basidorond.
Pummeling kick:
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
1d8 + 18 ⇒ (2) + 18 = 20
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
1d8 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
Darius Ral'algul |
No as in .. you take no actions.. pretty much all of them are.. you do a nothing for your turn.. one is run away another is.. like.. swim I think?
Rynjin |
You can't do anything, Sledge. The majority of them are "take no action". Then there's "drop a thing in your hand and run away", and "flail a bunch", basically.
You're on a bad trip. Strap in and get ready for a ride.
Still Jones.
