Hi Viola - welcome to the group! Having a companion is fun. Dambreth had one but an evil elf killed him.

Ooh! So maybe the Dragon would bond with you rather than her, assuming there was a dragon? I don't want to take someone else's niche. :)

I love the idea of a character that borrows from the 3D maneuvering devices from AoT.

Then she can get her device repaired at next level. :)

Also, here is wire fu. It's actually amazingly accurate for what I'm trying to do with the device. Only one problem: I don't have ki. A simple solution is that I simply can't choose ki as something it costs me.

When you Perform an act of uncanny agility, balance, or coordination. Roll +dex

10+ choose 1, 7-9 choose two:

Take -1 ongoing to dex from straining yourself. You can remove this by spending a few minutes stretching.

Spend 1 ki.

Causes unintended collateral damage or change to the environment.

Expose myself to danger, retribution, or wind up somewhere unexpected.

And now I know how I got caught, too. XD

Dambreth's been changed after getting killed along with his companion and is now a cleric of Gaia (sworn to not take a person's life).

Ah, I thought maybe you'd multiclassed into a companion. :) Dunno if clerics get a multiclass thing... but I think they really should!

They do... but it's super late! As a fan of clerics, I think most settings do it a little wrong. Clerics should be as varied as their deities, if you ask me :)

What does your god represent and give you?

Sorry, I forgot to come over here.
Here's my backstory idea: Halwyr also comes from Terminus city, an aspiring merchant before he had a vision of the Abyss, granting him wild and unpredictable magic. He was forced to leave his home because his family would have nothing more to do with him, and he was recruited by the Hand of Gaia. The rest of his adventuring party was most likely killed by a pack of orcs, but some may have survived.

He never worshipped a particular god, rather all the divine powers at once. He lost faith entirely when his eyes were lost to more orcs, who took him prisoner. His powers let him retain his sight, but he now hates all orcs. Unconditionally.
It's kind of rudimentary, but I like it so far.

We can work with it! New players, use this time before you're able to really perform any actions to think about how you would've interacted with the other prisoners. There are 11 of you, so there will be some NPCs mixed in with you.

In particular I'd like you to think about Bonds your character might have formed with the other prisoners. You were all captured within the last week - prisoners don't last longer than that among the Drakeriders. In that period of time, how did you interact with one another?

In addition to being a roleplaying tool, Bonds also serve a mechanical purpose - they help you when you roll to Aid Another, the more bonds the more bonus to your roll. In addition, during the End of Session move, if Bonds are Resolved, you create a new Bond and mark an XP.

Those who have spent time with Viola will note the following as her most significant quirks and characteristics:

The stories she tells are full of examples of willful ignorance. She's smart, but she's also terribly impatient, causing her to overlook things. This could also be construed as laziness.

She is very much a leap before you look person. She figures that if you take the time to have second thoughts, all the best opportunities will already be gone.

She's chatty if you opt to speak with her, and honestly friendly. She has a way of calming people's nerves and assisting concerns with practiced ease.

She is also quite fidgety, especially when locked in a cage with little to do. She very probably has agitated at least one person by tapping out a beat or two.

Hope that's enough to work with for you guys to make bonds. :)

*chuckle* That makes my first one easy:

__Viola Lark__...has a lot to learn about the ways of battle.

=3

Also of note: the Bonds on your character sheet are just suggestions for Bonds, you aren't required to use them. If you think something else about the other PCs along those lines, just use that.

Just bear in mind, that Viola is sort of Charming and maybe a little too Open... and maybe you are, too ;)

At first I was like "why was her car parked on the 80th floor?" and then I'm like "Oooooh. 'elevator car'."

If they had cameras at that time, I sure she would've made this page: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/OhCrap/RealLife

Posting in all my campaigns...I'm sick as a dog with the flu today and yesterday, which is why I didn't post anything. It's a really bad flu so I'm trying to rest and recuperate as much as I can but I will try to get everything up to speed this afternoon if possible. Thanks for being patient with me :(

Not a problem Eldar. Hell, I'm still keeping the bench seat warm for Sinathel, and she hasn't been able to post for far longer.

So, Frog-of-Feet. Should I stick with planar spheres, or is Grand Histories of the known world a significantly safer choice for getting play? :)

Also, dat Dwarven Architecture roll. :P

Just jump in! You're with Bolus and Sinathel looking at the southern watch tower just as Olivius explodes it. :)

Viola: Grand Histories are going to see a lot of mileage in a time travel campaign.

So, it's been a while. All is good on the health front now. It was a very welcome relief to all of us. About the time that cleared up, we let go of one of my coworkers and entered crunch time phase for show-prep and product release. I've been working long days and sometimes on weekends. I haven't had that much time to check here. I'm going to try to catch up on what has happened and try to get posting again, though I'm not sure how consistent I'll be for the next month or so.

Though I do have to say, Congrats Frogfoot :) Also... Hi newcomers!

Hey Sinathel, glad to see you're ok!

Having Sinathel dive in and annihilate something would be awesome right about now.

Agreed

Hello, New/old people. I'll be playing Viola, hopefully for both your enjoyment and mine! Thus far she's been probably a bigger blast to play than any of my other characters on here! :p I'm beginning to wonder if I should have gone with the chaotic alignment... because so far she's definitely shaking a lot of things up!

-Vengeful Ghosts
-Bolus the Vessel?

Okay, I don't expect you to answer this today, as per what you said. But I figured I should post before I forgot about it.
So, I'm thinking of the Mage being a Pathfinder/3.5 wizard with no spell limit per day in this post. And no sissy preparation. It's a good way to compare in this case.
I'm basically just listing schools and subschools that the Abyss affects, and I'd like your opinion.

Specialty School (suffering, horrors, corruption):

So, I think that would include:
-Almost all Evocation
-Conjuration (Summoning/Calling subschools only)
-Some Enchantment?
-Maybe a bit of Illusion and Necromancy? ("summoning horrors" could include illusions and undead)

Prohibited School (creating new things, humility):

-Some Abjuration? (We've ruled force barriers as "creating")
-Pretty much all Conjuration except Calling and Summoning (Healing definitely out)
-"Retreat" type spells? I mean, I understand not being able to cast something like Expeditious Retreat, it's for running away.
-Illusion? (This depends on what you view as creation.)

I actually do hope to get a good post in before I leave work for the weekend, but thanks for being understanding all the same.

Regarding your assumptions, I think you're pretty much dead on. I also think that your magics won't be much good when it comes to showing any subtlety, or enhancing your diplomatic skills - I feel comfortable excluding you from casting spells that resemble Glibness, for example.

Illusions are an interesting case, and I could see both sides of the argument here. What do you think of this compromise - you can cast/create illusions or hallucinations that are expressly for the purpose of making your enemies suffer, such as illusory grabby-hands, or a nightmarish vision of death to debuff your foes. I guess in Pathfinder terms those are called "enchantments." You can't create illusions that are meant purely to deceive, such as illusory walls to hide behind, because that would fall under "creating a new thing," even if it's an illusion.

You're the Mage, though - you're the authority on how Mages work, per Dungeon World rules. It's similar to how I gave Sinathel enormous creative control over how her Shapeshifting works. That's how this game is meant to be played. What you think is ultimately what goes!

Male Half-Elf Monk 10 | AC 27, TAC 24 | HP 148/148 | F +17, R +16, W +17 | Perc +15 | Speed 45 ft.

I like how this works. I forgot to add Transmutation and Divination, but I think most of Transmutation is neither Aligned nor Opposed and Divinations might be Opposed on a case-by-case basis. I also think what you say about Illusion makes sense, it's less Mirror Image and Invisibility (though I see much reason why they would be Opposed, either) and more Phantasmal Killer (on a lesser scale, of course) and Vision of Hell from UM.
Thanks for the input!

Hey, I resent that! Even if I did that (which I wouldn't) it would have been natural! I'd most likely have a scrying pool of sorts...filled with the blood of my enemies!
Besides, I'd need someone strong to rip out the entrails for me. I probably couldn't do that without magic.
