DM Ashman |
Before you get started please take a moment to introduce yourselves
For the past several days, you have been traveling a road
that winds lazily across the rolling grasslands of the
Greenfields. Sundown is approaching when you top a
rise and see the town of Greenest just a few short miles
away. But instead of the pleasant, welcoming town you
expected, you see columns of black smoke rising from
burning buildings, running figures that are little more than
dots at this distance, and a dark, winged shape wheeling
low over the keep that rises above the center of the town.
Greenest is being attacked by a dragon!
Elessandra Arlissencia |
For a moment, Elessandra was captivated by the serene beauty of the sunlight falling on the town of Greenest, piercing through clouds of dark smoke in golden rays. But she turned away from the light to focus on the matter at hand.
"By the heavens! We must help those people!" Although her voice is raised, there is a calm center to them, and it does not truly sound as though the woman dressed in fashionable attire was yelling. With her staff in hand, the glittering symbol of Lathander at its head, she runs forward to help any survivors that have escaped this far, and to hide herself, if possible from the dragon's gaze.
Not really sure how to handle introductions. Are we travelling together? Coming up on each other at the same road intersection? I'll wait and see what others post and then do a flashback sequence as required.
Little Meri |
Stunned for a moment Meri unhooks the bow from her back: "Whew, and here I thought I'd have to end this day with a boring old tavern brawl." The short bronze-skinned elf girl dressed in simple grey clothes and leather armor whipes a string of hair that refused to stay in her unkempt pony-tail from her face and begins running toward the town. "First one to kill a dragon gets to keep its scales!", she calls back to the others in a playful tone.
Vaxillis |
The old soldier looks down at the scene, "I've never faced a dragon before, and don't look forward to doing so now. We'd best concentrate on saving who we can."
He looks to the others as he draws his mace, prayer beads wrapped above its hilt, "We can do this, my friends!"
Elessandra Arlissencia |
Elessandra notices the other cleric and the archer running forward... She nods to the cleric with the prayer beads. "Agreed. I am not sure that killing the dragon is really an option. We should help the survivors and move them to safety."
She will proceed to do just that if required. She casts thaumaturgy so that her voice can be heard over the din.
Ammon the Fiend |
Ammon walks down the road, a concealing cloak covering his demonic features. Once he spies the town on fire, and the dragon, he speeds up to get to the combat.
Ammon will move forward until he come in contact with the figures on the ground. He will also keep his eyes on the dragon.
Little Meri |
The slight wood elf pirhouettes on her heel to face the others with a smirk: "Well yes, maybe I will not attempt to fight a giant, flying, firebreathing reptile with little sharp sticks, you might have a point."
She straightens and then slumps her shoulders back and adds in a more serious tone: "Now... are you coming?"
With that she turns to run again.
Vaxillis |
Vax smiles at his new companions, "Lead on, I will not be far behind!"
Vax will be keeping an eye open for those in the most need. Letting Elessandra be the voice to bring survivors to us, Vax will be particularly looking for people trapped in houses.
DM Ashman |
As the group moves forward into the town. The town in on fire there people everywhere some are fleeing and some are looting. Elessandra voices booms and at that point she gets the attention of some town folks and of courese those raiding.
Rolling on the Encounter Chart to see what you attract!
dice for table 1d8 ⇒ 7
DM Ashman |
As the group moves into the town. You each see 1d6 ⇒ 2 townsfolk being chased by 1d6 ⇒ 3 Kobolds. Since the Kobolds are focused on the town folk you each get a surprise round. The Towns folk are moving away so they will be no help.

Elessandra Arlissencia |
Elessandra props her staff up behind her shield and conjures a blast of sacred flame over the same kobold that the elf attacked.
Dex Save DC 13 or take 1d8 ⇒ 4 radiant damage

Kobold 3
Merri draws her bow and with a clean shot fells one of the minnons. Ellessandra calls apon her holy power to bring the divne justice to the cruel creature. The creature moves out the way and radiant light burns into the nothing.
Ammon the Fiend |
Ammon throws back his cloak and extends his arm towards one of the kobolds. A crackling bolt of force flies from his outstretched hand and streaks towards the intended target.
Eldritch Bolt: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 5
LOL...not a good start, I fear!
Urran Padfoot |
Hmm, maybe this new group aren't more raiders. At least they appear to be trying to help.
A tiny figure darts from the shadows to strike at the kobolds with a shining rapier.
Sorry didn't see the post yesterday, throwing out init and a turn that you can insert wherever in the order to save you time.
Urran init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Vaxillis |
Nodding at Elessandra, Vaxillis follows suit, holding his mace and prayer beads up high, "Ilmater, bring your radiance to burn the evil from this land!"
Sacred Flame, Save DC 13 (succes negates damage), damage 1d8 ⇒ 3
Elessandra Arlissencia |
Question for you Vaxillis. Is there a rule that you saw that lets you cast spells while holding weapon and shield. I thought I saw one but cannot find it now.
Elessandra returns the nod and takes the staff of Lathander back in her hand.

There is a Feat that can be taken, it does several other useful things for casters as well.

If you notice, I have not drawn my shield yet... maybe I should adjust my AC... ;P

Another blast of light goes to hit from Vax's prayer. Kobold # 2.1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15. The light shines and the Kobold moves on. Kobold # 3 while reaching for the younger person that he is chasing is struck by a rapier as a young halfing steps outs from the shadows.

If the little troublemaker isn't dead by the time that it is my turn, and hasn't run off, Vax will provide an extra target for the kobold, pulling his shield off his back and moving up to swing.
mace attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Whiff! This is going to be a long campaign! ;p
DM Ashman |
The last Kolobd dies in firey death from the hands of Ammon. At the towns people got away safely. You each see the wath appears to be the keep and that time here a voice from the top.
Run to us!
There are several streets between the keep and where is your group is at.
Do you try stealth or move openly?
Vaxillis |
Vaxillis looks up towards the keep, trying to see the source of the voice. Then turning toward the others, "Let's get the survivors up there. They'll be safer in the keep, though I don't know if it can hold up to a dragon!"
After waiting for his friends' responses, Vax continues to look for people in need.
Vax is not really trying to be stealthy...
Elessandra Arlissencia |
Also preferring the nonstealthy route, Elessandra follows the other cleric, continuing to try to help others get to the Keep. She shoulders her shield (puts it away) to make the run easier.

The scene so you know what your dealing with. The Kobolds are in lose triangle position. K3 in the front has melee range on Vax and Urran. K2 & K1 have range distance on the group. I am assuming Ammon and Eless are in the back way from the melee. Meri is in between K3 and K1 so she can close distance as move. The Kobolds are not within 5 feet of each so no pack tactics.
K3 swings at Vax with his dagger to hit 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 dmg 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4he misses and hiss at Vax.
K2 pulls out his sling and tries to hit Ammon. [ooc] to hit Ranged 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 dmg 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6. The bullet hits the Warlock hard.

Vax knocks the kobold's stab to the side with his shield then tries to crush the little bugger while calling, "Come hither, so that I may brain thee!"
attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Ammon the Fiend |
If Ammon killed that kobold, he will have triggered Dark One's Blessing, and will have received (Cha bonus + Level) 4 temporary Hit Points as a result.
As the scaly creature succumbs to the hellfire, Ammon feels a sudden invigoration and vitality flow into him. And none to soon, as another kobold fires a rock at him, striking the warlock in the arm. While some of the sting is negated by this new felt energy, the damage does penetrate this protection and numbs the Tiefling's arm. 2hp damage
"How dare you! You will pay for your arrogance!"
He once again stretches forth his arm and hellfire streaks from his open palm to strike the offending kobold.
Infernal Blast: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 7
Unfortunately the damage and numbing of his arm has thrown the half fiend's aim off, and he misses.
